I was really excited to try my new Vax Platinum Power Max Carpet Cleaner. The suction and scrubbing action worked a treat and my carpet came up like new, I was very impressed. So much so, that I took it to a friends house and cleaned her very heavily soiled lounge carpet for her (it was over 15 years old and very grubby) She was very pleased also as she was selling her house and considering replacing the carpet, but it came up clean enough to leave. I then used the machine on my kitchen floor vinyl which has been down about 10 years. I was surprised at how dirty it was and despite regular steam cleaning, the Vax made a very noticable difference. Good Points Clear instuctions (any doubt watch Utube video)Ease of filling and adding shampoo. Ease of emptying dirty water Using the machine to clean (like a large vacuum cleaner) Easy controls for dispensing cleaning fluid and switching from the wash to rinse etc.Other Points: I didn't realize until cleaning the vinyl floor that when the dirty water tank was half full, the suction stopped so the carpet got wetter. Please amend your instructions Vax to point out that the dirty water tank should be emptied when you fill up the clean tank.My carpet wasn't dry in 1 hour but did dry overnight. The same with my friend's carpet. The vinyl floor dried very quickly.Cleaning the machine! I have seen bad reports about this, so expected a challenge. The tanks were very simple just rinse and they are done. The front nozzle and the spin scrub brushes were also easy there is a Vax video to show you how to clean these, but I didn't use my kitchen sink for the dirty water as shown in the video, I took them outside and used the hose and emptied the water into an outside sink! If you see the dirt that comes off, I think you may feel the same. Now for the brush bar! This is the hardest part as if your carpets are anything like mine, despite a thorough vacuuming first, this powerful machine still picked up fluff and dirt which accumulated in the bristles. As a dog owner, this wasn't difficult, just use your dog's wire grooming brush and brush the bristles to remove it. The worst area for gathering fluff was the clear plastic area behind the nozzle (above the brush bar) This was coated in wet yukky fluff and dirt and short of removing the brush bar I couldn't see how to get it out. Then I hit on an idea. Take an old dishcloth or similar cloth and cut into 3" - 4" strips. Then poke a strip up behind a section of brush bar and turn the brush bar so that it takes the cloth. Once it gets around to the dirty area, you can then reverse it back. It takes a few times to clean it this way, but trust me, it's far easier than removing screws and trying to get the brush bar out. I know, I tried! One other point to consider. The Carpet Cleaner is a large machine and will probably be too heavy for anyone who is slight or frail. Having said that, I am a 66-year-old female and coped fine with it, but my 75-year-old friend could not. It's 9.6kg, plus the weight of a tank of water.Would I recommend the Vax Carpet Cleaner to a friend? Absolutely! Despite the difficulty cleaning behind the brush bar, I think it is a small price to pay for a first class cleaning job on all my carpets and kitchen vinyl and intend using it every 6 months. Being a dog owner it is worth it's weigh in gold.

So after going through many reviews from other buyers, somewhich appeared to be negative, and others that were positive and having looked at many others carpet cleaners I decided on VAX Platinum. I have cream Berber wool carpets in the bedrooms and a cream carpet in the Lounge come dining room.I had gotten so many marks in the bedroom carpet from make up that it was decided I NEEDED to clean it.The Package arrived very securely. The box is SO huge but everything that it contained was well packaged and each item was held fast .Together with the VAX Platinum Carpet cleaner I also received a Steam cleaner which buying it separately woukd have been extra £69.99.Anyway to the VAX....it came with a canvas style bag with a stud fastening and a hook that allowed Me to hang it when not on use with the hose and other little items; which is AWESOME. All I had to do was tw8st the Handle of the VAX until it clicked securely into place. The two containers.. one for ckean water and solution and dirty water were eady to click into place.I used it down stairs on the Lounge where it was quite clean except for where I place my feet whilst sitting. Following the instructions of using 40ml f solution and water ; the deep cleansing mode was perfect .... it lifted the dirt and even "raised" the flatness of the carpet. Easy to empty the dirty water and he orher one was SO eady to fill with ckean water /to top it up and add the solution. The VAX is heavy to carry upstairs but the effort is worthwhile when it took off the years of makeup and grime. The carpets look amazingly new and I cannot say it enough but THIS WAS THE BEST CARPET CLEANER that I have invested in... let's put it this way that a professional cleaner who "allegedly " cleaned those carpets would be shamed if he saw what a VAX can do.The drying process in the Lounge took just under an hour but the upstairs carpets took 2 days simply because I had cleaned it SO deeply twice but it's worth it. It cones with a 9 meter plugged cable so that was comfortable to move around the house. I have not used the hand held parts as yet but they look sturdy and each one has its on place in the bag or held firm and tight at the front top of the Handle. The push buttons for reclining the Handle and switch ON and OFF are brilliant using feet to activate them. Also included are 3 bottles of cleaning solutions.... 2 cleaning solutions and one ore ckean solution which comes with a separate spray on nozzle too; but using the VAX hand held nozzle for pre clean solution is better as the area coveted is greater.(just wish I had a bigger bottle of cleaning solutions but I can always re order on Vax.co.uk.)I found taking the 7 round wheel brushes (they are all conjoined with one another to make ONE aligned brush.... off to ckean was easy as was the plastic connector. Using a knitting needle rather than scissors , MUCH better for safety, I was able to clean out debris such as stray hairs and fluff quite reasonably well. All in all ,although the VAX platinum carpet cleaner is heavy for a weakling .I would definitely recommend it as a powerful dirt lifting cleaning machine for carpets. It's not quiet but who cares as LONG as My carpets look l8ke brand new. It's heavy. But worth the price I oaid for it.I am VERY pleased and now I can save MONEY by doing it myself!

I am very particular when it comes to purchasing anything. I read reviews for all makes of cleaners with Vax really sticking out for the amount of 5^ Feedback so purchased this. I needed it quickly so was delighted that I sent the order on a Sunday afternoon and the cleaner arrived the next day on a the Monday afternoon. It comes well packed in the box with the 4 litre platinum power solution packed in with it. (I now realise 4l will do for 100 cleans!)Machine comes well packed, instructions are clear to assemble and easy to do so, it is a solid product, well made and designed. So to dial back, what did I want this for?Having previously had dogs I wish I’d had it at that time,as it would be perfect to deal with pet accidents. My main reason for this purchase was due to my mum being 93 and not too steady when carrying or lifting things she has lots of spillages on her carpets, mostly liquids and sometimes food related. This had led to unsightly stains, some of these being on a light coloured carpet. I wanted something too which wouldn’t leave the carpets soaking wet and the reviews seemed to be positive too in this respect. So onto usage. Decided to try it out with a Quick Clean on my bathroom carpet.. the one and only negative I found with the machine is that the instructions don’t tell you how much solution it takes, this is on the solution container itself and is 40ml, however Vax don’t supply a 40ml measure, I had nothing that measured that amount so ended up weighing it out. The water has to be less than 40C going in, beware As hot tap water is more than this. I used a thermometer for food to check, but you could just guess from putting your hand in if it was skin temp or lower. All switches and controls are robust and you get a sense of durability with this machine (backed up by a 6 year warranty which was emailed after buying it.)I cleaned the bathroom using quick clean function and then put it on rinse mode and the carpet looked great and felt quite dry. The dirty water container was about 1/8 full of a dark straw coloured liquid. (It does tell you to check colour fastness etc, but I didn’t, don’t judge me!) So far so good, the bedroom carpet was next, an oatmeal coloured textured number, which didn’t look great, onto a deep clean setting this time, with my wife stealing the machine off of me. This left the carpet a bit wetter but it dried within a few hours. Then off to my mums, for one carpet which was badly stained ai used the pre-treatment solution, spraying it straight from the bottle as I hadn’t taken the pure treatment want with me. I then gave it a deep clean and the results were amazing. I have since washed my lounge and hall carpet on a deep clean setting. These are rooms I thought didn’t get much external foot traffic, however the attached photo shows different. They are quality wool carpets so afterwards smelt of wet wool and were wet to touch, with the heating on and doors and windows open they were dry within 4 hours. I can’t recommend this highly enough. I haven’t used the tool attachments yet but look forward to it! My one regret is that knowing how good and the quality of it ai didn’t pay the extra to get the bundle with the cordless vac too. Overall, 5 stars absolutely no question. The reviews were right!

I bought this having not owned a Vax cleaner before. I have shampooed two rooms so far and both carpets have come up almost like new. My reason for only 4 stars rather than 5 is due to lack of meaningful instructions on how to use efficiently and a few small annoyances. I hope that my review will help others in getting more out of their machine.I was particularly impressed that it removed several types of make up and blood stains from a cream carpet. I had tried various methods by hand to no avail and was thinking I would have to replace the carpet. I also got stains out of a dressing table stool with the spin scrub hand tool that I had tried many other treatments on - amazing. My tip to get the carpets as dry as possible is to pass the machine over the carpet overall times (without pressing the trigger) both in forwards and backwards motion also across in different directons. You will see the water coming into the tank and it gets more dirt out too. There are a few points that could be improved by Vax. echo what others have said, the instruction manual is quite vague in places and there is very little to supplement on either the Vax website or U-Tube. Please Vax, add a video to help us first timers with this new machine. Perhaps use real customers as they have trialled it. Secondly, I wish the water and solution bin had a measure, so I could judge the amount of cleaning liquid to add. The instructions on the solution bottle say 40ml per litre of water. The first time I used the machine I put the whole lot of solution into the solution chamber at once, as it suggested that the machine would self-dose and any excess cleaning fluid could be tipped out at the end. However, the machine seemed to dispense all the liquid in one go, as I had way too many suds (a scary amount) and it look a lot to rinse it out - not good. Subsequently I have added a measured amount of solution (which I had to calculate as no measure on the water tank). It would also be good if the pre-treatment wand had a separate solution chamber, as you have to pre-treat everything in one go then tip the treatment out and replace with the shampoo to clean. I'd like to be able to do both simultaneously as I go. I have actually resorted to putting the pretreatment into a trigger bottle and using it that way neat. It worked well. Another slight annoyance is cleaning the brush bar as removing it is a faff. My best tip is to carefully use a small bendy bottle brush to get into the back of the brush bar without the need to remove it. Rotate the bar and the fluff comes out. This works well. I would also say from experience that wool carpets shed a very large amount of fibres the first time you clean them, so keep an eye on the brushes and unplug the machine and clear the fibres out after every few cleaning passes (don't leave to the end). This will help the machine to perform better. Rugs with long piles seem to shed a lot too. Try the quick wash facility first. Overall I love this machine and would recommend it.

After I got tired of my old carpet washer which did not clean very well, left not only the carpets soaking wet but also the floor underneath and made more noise than a 747 engine, and unwilling to go back to carpet cleaning detergents that always gave me the feeling that in foam form they release more toxins into the air than burning the carpet would and in powder form made more of a mess than their cleaning power worth, I have made a long and extensive market research and decided to go for the Platinum Power Max. Although it's not a cheap one it's worth every penny and I do not regret the decision.I have several carpets in different sizes, most of which are quite new so while I'm determined to keep them in top condition it was harder to evaluate how effective the machine is (it should be added however that I was very surprised to see how dirty the water sucked after washing was), though I appreciated the suction power and ease of use very much in comparison to my old washer, not to mention it's even quieter than the older (the Vax is not quiet by any means - but definitely quieter, which compared to how much liquid is being sucked back is admirable). That being said, I decided to wash an old carpet that was in the living room until it's been replaced with a newer one, and found home on the balcony so that the cats can enjoy it. While the balcony has a water resistant shadow sail, it's useful to protect the balcony from normal rain but it doesn't take more than a bit of wind to get that carpet at least damp as well, which of course makes it get dirty faster, especially when walked over with shoes. On top of that it had a few nasty old stains including a sticky one that I have no idea what created it, but was there. A quick vacuum, and then it was the Platinum Power Max to show what it can do - and it did. I didn't even have to use the wand to tackle the major stains nor do any kind of pre-treatment; two rounds on "wash" and one on "rinse" were enough to get the carpet back to a condition I haven't seen it in since it was purchased. I was just amazed by the results which you can see on the picture (I only regret not taking a "before" picture to show the difference). Apart from that, I am very happy with the included Spinscrub and upholstery hand tools which I found to be more handy than expected, as well as the hard floor adapter - while not something that I would use for everyday cleaning, it's great to have for a deep clean once in a while. The entire machine is very well built and it's evident that a lot of thought went into it in order to make it not only effective but very user friendly: even disassembling it to save storage space is done in no more than 30 seconds, and cleaning it is also very simple. The included cleaning solution and pre-treatment solution are also a nice touch and are appreciated. If you consider buying a carpet washer, do not think twice and go for this one. You will not regret it.

Firstly, I was delighted at the super fast despatch of my order (delivered within 24 hrs of placing the order). The cleaner is super easy to set up from the box with very clear written instructions to give you a simple step-by-step guide to get you started. The quality of build of this machine is apparent upon unpacking it from the box. What do I love about this cleaner? 1. Super simple to use, 2. Love the fact that there is a separate compartment for the clean water and the solution meaning that you never have to worry about wasting solution as any left over can be put straight back into the bottle nor do you need to faff around with wondering if you’ve made it too strong or too weak 3.Love the additional tools - will make use of them for cleaning upholstery around the house (3, dogs, 2 cats and a 7 year old child mean that it will never be idle for long!) and that long-reach hose is a boon! 4. Love the fact that Vax supply a bag to keep all the bit that aren’t housed directly on the machine together - and that it has a hanger build in to make storing it less of a headache5. Love the fact that it actually works! Lifted stains from a bedroom carpet with minimum effort and made the carpet look like new! Also lifted the pile of a carpet after heavy furniture had been moved after many years leaving big indents on the carpet6. Love the fact that it leaves the carpet so dry! 7. Love the fact that it dismantles to a small size within seconds (water tanks off, handle off) to make it super portable to take between my house and my elderly mother’s house8. Love the fact that you really do feel that your carpets have had a really good deep clean. Sooooo, what don’t I like? My one gripe is the lack of some quick release system for access to the brush bar for cleaning the machine after use. Every other part is quick release - the tools, water compartments, front cover, rotating cleaning bar). The clear plastic section that houses the brush bar is a bottle neck for build up of fibres and dirt from carpets so you really want to be cleaning this after each use to ensure the longevity of your machine and to avoid unpleasant odours. I needed two different sizes of screwdrivers to remove all the screws and the head of one of the screws seemed very soft and difficult to remove - all other screws came out ok except that one I think I will need to replace it urgently for fear of not being able to get it out in future. Once the brush bar has been removed, however, cleaning is actually really simple and you are putting it back together again within minutes.Overall I am delighted with my purchase!

Brought this last week. Service was amazing, ordered it at 2pm, arrived next day. Replacing a previous model. so after using it to do the entire hall way carpet up and down, here are my thoughts. Water pick up...not quite as good as the previous one, carpets stay damp for a few hours. Previous model seemed to suck up about 90% of the water, I'd say this one only does about 70%. That is going over twice and criss-crossing. However that isn't an issue for me so it's fine.Cleaning- yes it was very good, better then previous model in that it's got the roller at the front and the swirling brushes behind it. It seemed to beat a flattened carpet, well trodden and actually gave it a newer look.Very pleased with that.Cleaning the cleaner-Oh top mark here. So simple, so easy to clean. The tank is open with out all the compartments that the previous one had, and it's simple, flat surface and just easy to wipe clean afterwards. The brushes still need some work to get off the machine but that is expected. Cleaning these were similar to the old one. The stair tool-this is the con. The previous model had one group of two thick orange brushes. Now here is the thing, they were heavy enough to actually do the job, but the moment you pushed the thing down against the carpet, they stop spinning. They spin lovely in the air, but any resistance and they give up. The new stair tool has loads of little thin brushes in various groups. They don't seem big enough to actually do much to the carpet, and again, while they spin really well in the air or just touching the carpet, any pressure and they stop. So I don't see this area has improved. And the main reason I got the new one was to get a better clean on the stairs. Sadly it hasn't delivered on that. It's retained it shape from the previous model, so is not the easiest thing to use. The water jet is still behind the brushes, so you brush and then wet the carpet. Should really be at the front. On VAX's side, it's a hard tool to make full stop. No electric power to it means it is dependant on suction, and with a hose that gets lesser and lesser depending on length of the hose. So they done their best but the tool isn't any better then the previous model. All in all, four stars. The machine is good, it cleans very well and is easy to clean after use. I can't see the carpets dry in an hour, but that isn't an issue for me. It is let down by it's poor stair cleaning. If you haven't any stairs, consider this a five star review, excellent for what you want it for. If you have stairs, then it is four stars.

I usually hire out the Rug Doctor 2-3 times a year to use on our own and my son's carpets, so it made some sense to purchase this machine, if only for the convenience.Firstly believe the hype, this machine cleans excellently well, however there are several areas that need improving.Positives are: It cleans really well, drying time is quick, it's very manageable as in it's movements and I'd say it's much lighter than lugging the alternative around, carpets were left really clean and smelling fresh.Negatives are: This machine does not take the wet dust material away (make sure you use a good vacuum cleaner first, to be fair I didn't) which leaves them all over the carpet, although these are easily removed with a normal vac once dry, the rental machine does not leave this material behind, by the same token, the machine gets dirty really quickly, its not designed (as it the rental) to take this material at all so it clogs the brushes and the underside of the brush bar cover, this doesn't detract from it's ability to clean but looks unsightly and because of this the machine needs a clean afterwards. The cleaning is an additional process you do not get with the rental, which is a disappointment, however, once you have removed and wiped down it takes about 20 mins and a screwdriver it looks good to go again, except for the clogged brushes I didn't bother with. The Instructions in general are poor, the ones for cleaning the unit are terrible, the ones for use are not much better, I struggled with the cleaning solution mixture, the book contradicts the instructions on the label of the cleaning solution, so that was a scratching the head moment, removing the lid on the waste water tank was a nightmare, first time, now it's ok but I snapped some piece of plastic which has or doesn't seem to have had any effect. The biggest gripe of all is the amount of cleaning solution the unit uses, instructions are 40ml to one litre of water? so filling the tank with 80ml and using the automix with 2 litres of water? not a chance, the 80 ml dissipated over two small to medium carpets and needed refilling, so I will have to ask for clarification on this as this will make using the machine very expensive, the bottle that came with the machine cleaned just three small to medium carpets and the stairs which again is very poor.

So I've been toying with the idea of purchasing a carpet cleaner for a while and finally took the plunge last week and bought this one! I have a small child and two dogs so I am always conscious about keeping the floors clean whether that be mopping or vacuuming. I'd borrowed my friends carpet cleaner a couple of years back, an older model and was happy with the results, but my carpet at that time was less than a year, I'd mainly borrowed it for some upholstery but thought whilst I was at it the carpets had the once over too! There's some small assembly required when it arrives but the instructions are easily followed.I like the fact you don't have to mix the solution and water together in anything before adding to the tank so you can fill up the water tank which holds 3 litres and then add the solution to a separate compartment which is around 120ml (40ml to 1lt of water) and away you go! The machine generally is quite heavy so then adding 3 litres to the tank adds extra weight, it might be something to bear in mind when transporting it anywhere (i.e. upstairs)! I agree with the tv advert, vacuuming alone doesn't clean the carpet... this cleaner has demonstrated that! I thought my vacuum was good (particularly at picking up dog hair), but I'll be honest with what this picked up I'll be going over my carpets much more regularly from now on with this for a proper clean! It's really satisfying knowing how clean my carpets are after using this and the solution smells nice and fresh too which leaves your house smelling nice after. The reason I've not given it 5 out of 5... it's the cleaning, this machine is not self cleaning like some other vax models. Most parts of the assembly come apart quite easy but to tackle one area that really does hold the dirt and is visible (that you really want to clean) involves a screwdriver to get at and it's a bit faffy... cleaning carpets can be quite a physical task so when you're done you want something easy to clean and that last bit is something that's a little awkward and could be a little daunting to do, so I couldn't quite give it that five.

I have recently bought the Vax Platinum carpet cleaner after seeing it advertised on TV and reading mostly good reviews. I have only ever washed carpets using carpet shampoos and doing it by hand; so I thought this would make it easier. The actual machine is ok when you are doing a long stretch in a big area of a room but with the machine been quite big & not very light it's a little tricky to manover around corners and alcoves in smaller areas. I did use the spin scrub tool for other small areas of the room which was not too bad but when it sprays the water, it shoots over the top of the spin scrub tool; so you have to go back over to shampoo it.As for it drying in 1 hour using the quick wash,I think that is a bit exagirated. I used a quick wash as my carpet was only mucky in small areas but I went over the cleaner areas only once shampooed and rinsed and those areas took a couple of ours to dry say the least and this is on a deep wool carpet, the other areas of the carpet which were more mucky I went over a good couple of times to clean it. It took the whole carpet a good six hours to dry on a reasonable summer's day and I had to put the central heating on for this length of time or it would have taken into the following day to dry. Having said that once the carpet had fully dried it did an excellent job of the carpet it had cleaned it very clean and I did not have to use too much shampoo..It is very good with having two separate tanks and was easy enough to clean afterwards apart from cleaning the brushes which are a little tricky to get out and put back after cleaning.I thought the instructions that are provided are not very good pictures or explained in enough details or clear. I would recommend buying this machine but be aware it is quite a big machine compared to a standard VAX carpet vacuum and is a little difficult to move around and it takes a lot longer to dry but having said that it did a really good job.

I have purchased the platinum carpet cleaner after reading the reviews. I am not disappointed at all. It is very easy to put together. I was a bit dubious about the main handle being plastic, and in two parts, thought it would be flimsy, and would bend as you push n pull alot on the handle. I am wrong in thinking that, it is fine. Using the cleaner for the first time, I set everything up as per the instructions. Very easy to understand and clear instructions.Plugged in power on and off I went. Very easy to use, this cleaner and the cleaning brushes bring back the pile of the carpet up instantly. Such a pleasure to use, it's not cumbersome it glides across the carpet.I would say that it is so easy to use like your vacuum cleaner that you must check yourself and slow down as it gives the cleaner the chance to bring up the debris/dirt and allows the cleaner to clean deeply and properly. Its a very good idea that the vax cleaning solution is a separate compartment. This enables you to empty the solution by pushing the spring in underneath the solution compartment. Remember to have a receptacle to catch the solution. I found this process a little messy as I have big fingers so next time I use it I will use a pencil head or something that will push the spring more easily.Although the machine is easy to use it is a little cumbersome to clean the brushes. As you have to undo all the screws to allow the brushes to be removed and cleaned. This will have to happen everything I clean my carpets as I have a dog and the pet hairs will clog the brushes up. The vacuum picks alot of it up but the cleaner is so good I just know it will pick up those invisible hairs. However, you don't buy a machine like this if you aren't going to look after the cleaner after each use.I am extremely happy with this cleaner as it is lighter to use than my Dyson vacuum!!Well done vax I love this cleaner so far.

Overall I’m pleased with the cleaning performance of the machine and it’s ease of use.As other reviews have mentioned you continually need to stop and refill the water and shampoo tanks. Although the carpets didn’t feel soaking wet, about only 25% of the water that goes in to the carpet actually ends up in the dirty tank. It wasn’t a problem as it’s summer time and I have short pile carpet, so within a day it was bone dry. However there are a couple minor negative points which let it down.6 year guarantee - you only maintain the guarantee if you use Vax branded shampoo. I partially understand why, however it’s still a let down as for me it was one of the selling points for buying the machine.I wouldn’t mind if the Vax shampoo was reasonably priced, but when you can buy other shampoo brand for 75% less(And reviews saying aftermarket brand is better than Vax) it’s a hard choice.Cleaning the machine - so the machine does a good job of cleaning, but after your finished the machine itself is pretty dirty. As it’s something your not going to use regularly, I think it needs to be properly cleaned. However due to poor design, you need to get a screwdriver and unscrew 10 screws holding the bottom together. For something you need to do each time you use the machine, why doesn’t the bottom ‘clip’ together? If only a Dyson engineer had designed this part.Hose attachment - the hose attachment into the machine just has 1 clip on 1 side, meaning the attachment can be pulled at a slight angle. When it does this the water is cut off until you push it straight again. Again it seems like a ‘lazy’ design fault not to do a double clip to secure it properly.Even with those 3 annoying negative points, overall I’m still reasonably happy because of the result. Would I recommend it? Not sure, but I would certainly say to check out what else is available first.

Just cleaned our first carpet and very happy with the end result as the carpet feels like new again. The result has encouraged us to clean more of our carpets than we had planned as they look and feel so much better after cleaning. However, I was surprised at how wet the carpet was after cleaning. Despite only doing 2 passes on cleaning and 4 on sucking out the water it has taken a full day with doors and windows open and I think I will leave it another full day to be sure it is dry before replacing any furniture. Also, although the area cleaned was not huge, the machine consumed water and cleaning solution at a prodigious rate on the deep clean setting.I had to refill the water container and add more cleaning solution about 5 or 6 times which meant one and a half of the 2 complimentary 250ml bottles of cleaning solution have already been used. Fortunately I bought the 4 litre container of solution when I ordered the machine so we will have plenty to clean the carpets we want to.It took a while to clean the machine after use as the carpet fibres do get into all parts of the brushes, spindles and suction tubes but a little perseverance and the use of a very thin knife on the suction part of the hand held mini scrubbing tool managed to clear pretty much everything. Not sure how often we will use the machine after we have cleaned all of our carpets but maybe using the light clean setting and making a single pass would be useful once a year to freshen things up and hopefully wouldn’t make the carpets anywhere near as wet as the deep clean setting we used this time. It should be very useful for any minor spillages in between major cleans and with a 6 year guarantee I can feel confident that if it doesn’t work in a year or so when I decide to use it again I won’t have wasted my investment.

I bought this item last week and have already cleaned every carpet in the house. I have been putting off buying a carpet cleaner for over a year now and my carpets were in need of a good clean. I will probably need to do them again within the year but that's only because I didn't buy my Vax Platinum sooner. I was worried about fixing the tanks having read other reviews but I found releasing and refitting the clean and dirty water tanks a simple process. The practical, not necessarily brilliant points are:-The hand held brush tool is very sturdy - I haven't actually used it but on pushing the Vax forwards only twice this caught on my trousers pocket and flew off crashing onto the tiled fire surround.Fortunately neither smashed but it did manage to rip my trousers! I would suggest that you only attach the tool if you are planning to use it, otherwise leave it in the bag with the hose.As you are told the water must not exceed 40° then it would be useful if the package included a thermometer - better still, how about some built in technology to show when at correct temperature! Fortunately I have a thermometer but am sure not everyone would have one.Get yourself a sieve as you would not want the carpet fluff from the dirty water tank to go down your plug hole, it doesn't warn about this in the user guide! The user guide itself would benefit from an update - very little (basically no information) about the rinse function. First time I have used any carpet cleaner so have had to guess about how and when to use this. Also the diagram shows you removing the rotating brushes out of one side pulling it towards you which is totally wrong. I managed to get these off by trial and error basically pulling both sides forwards from the base

You are never really quite sure what you are going to get when you by a new, non-standard item such as this. I mean, we all know what to expect from a toaster, kettle or vacuum cleaner; but a carpet cleaner? That's a bit different. So it was with some trepidation we unpacked it and put it together - which is all pretty easy and well thought out. My wife is the lead in experience with these, having used previous models, and was happy to get stuck in. There was some 5 year-old dirt to be removed from both carpets and furniture and she set about it with her usual gusto. She spent a lot of time doing all this, especially to the entrances to doorways on carpets and the arms of furniture. At first,it all seemed to be a little unproductive. but after the second application, and now using the spin scrubbing brush, the results started to look good. And, after drying, the treated items looked (almost) as good as new, which is hardly what we may have dared expect. Excellent !There was a degree of trial and error in all this, so give yourself time, preparation and patience when using the VAX Platinum for the first time especially. Also, where persistent deep cleaning takes place, the carpet surface my be relatively dry, but has it soaked into the underlay? We were having new carpet fitted adjoining all the rooms we treated, so uplifted and aired the doorway areas.Make sure you have sufficient VAX Platinum fluid, as the two small ones supplied with the machine don't go that far and strictly follow the prescribed application methods and you will achieve a great result. We also suggest treating items regularly; ie., yearly, before dirt really sets in and is apparent, and this will maintain a good appearance for longer.Good Luck.........
