“Quick, Compact and Light” is how Vax describe this latest addition to their carpet washer range and having used it extensively over a weekend, I can’t disagree with them. Traditional carpet washers are big and comparatively bulky, not the easiest to manoeuvre and they take up a lot of storage space. I know, we have one! This Vax Compact Washer however only weighs 5.47kg and is really easy to manoeuvre, even with full clean and dirty water tanks. The light weight means it is easily lifted over short distances or up stairs, much more so than a full sized carpet washer.Assembly is quick and straight forward. The instruction manual is easy to follow and has colour illustrations, covering assembly, use and maintenance. There are only 4 components (upper and lower handles, clean water bottle and nozzle) to add to the main body and they snap into position with little force required. The clean water tank is filled with water up to a mark on the outside of the tank, see attached photo. Then, very simply, just top up with Vax cleaning solution to the ‘Detergent’ mark. Simple but easy to follow.Luke warm water (max 40 degrees) can be used. The Vax has “Heat Blast” badging which would appear to indicate some form of water heating but I cannot find any confirmation as to whether it does actually have some means of heating or can just use pre-warmed hot water. I used warm water and found the results perfectly acceptable.Washing performance is good, dare I say surprisingly good compared to our full sized Vax washer. Suction performance is not as good as our full sized (and much more expensive) washer but still very impressive for such a compact unit. The washing head is narrow and has a single rotating brush but has still managed to deal impressively with spills and stains.....thank you to my wife also for spilling a cup of coffee whilst we were testing the washer! The handle can lower , not horizontally but no higher than the level of the dirty water tank so this compact washer can reach underneath objects to areas that our full sized washer struggles to get to.Cord length of 6.7m is adequate for a normal sized room and the foot operated on/off button and handle release pedals are easy to operate. Storage is much less of a problem with the modest size of this washer. In summary, we were really impressed by the performance of this modestly sized and priced washer. Ideal for washing smaller areas and for rapid spill response....my wife’s ‘test’ involving spilling a full cup of coffee on the carpet was easily dealt with in minutes. If you have a modest area of carpets and some combination of kids and pets, this well designed and compact washer will be invaluable in keeping your carpets looking good and smelling fresh. If you have large areas of carpet that need regularly washing, then a full size washer might be worth it but for cleaning smaller areas, this really is well worth considering. Easily recommended.

It used to be that carpet washers were expensive and bulky items, and not many of us had them. I remember having to pay a small fortune for one back when I owned a shared rental flat, and regularly needed to clean the carpets between tenants. So it's a real surprise to see just how compact and inexpensive they have become in the intervening years.Bonus features of this machine are:* It's quiet* It's compact, so easy to store* The size makes it easy to use on stairs* Any brand of carpet fluid can be used (saves money over exclusive cartridge systems)* Has a power brush to lift extra dirt* Clean carpets are healthier - simple operation makes keeping them that way, easy.* Excellent value for moneyDrawbacks* Suction not as great as a larger machine* Be careful not to bash the front as you use it, or you may possibly crack the plastic vacuum housing* I have zero idea what the "Heat Blast" label on the front refers to, and Vax don't tell you either.I find using this washer very simple indeed. Warm water and cleansing solution go into the top tank, and off you go. Squeezing the handle mounted trigger as you push the machine forward releases the fluid, and your carpet is vigorously scrubbed by the rotating brush. Releasing the trigger and pulling the machine back again sucks the cleaning solution back up, and with it a surprising amount of muck! Just how effective the machine is soon becomes apparent by both the visual difference of the carpet and the dirty black liquid in the lower reservoir.TOP TIPMy one piece of advice is to ensure your carpets can dry efficiently after you wash them. Most of the fluid is sucked back up but by no means all, so they remain slightly damp following a wash. Turn your central heating up high first, wash your carpets then open the window with your heating still on. This will help dry the carpet and release the damp air outside. Alternatively, a dehumidifier left on for a day or so works wonders. Whatever you do, don't wash your carpets when it's cold inside, or they'll stay damp for days and potentially become mouldy. Made that mistake once and never shall again!CONCLUSIONI wish this machine had been available when I had my rental property, because it would have been less cumbersome and a lot cheaper. It's ideal as a standby for those inevitable domestic accidents, and very good at targeting specific areas quickly and efficiently, thereby saving your rugs or carpets from long term damage. In that respect alone it could easily pay for itself. It will clean a whole room too of course, and clean carpets help reduce dust and dust mites that trigger asthma. The compact size and low price, coupled with the undeniable benefit of having such a machine available to use turn this into an essential item, I think. Every home should have one.

Our house has some fairly old and grotty carpets which are due to be replaced in due course, however until we can do that this carpet cleaner has been fabulous. It has enabled us to give them a really good clean and will mean we can do so easily as and when we need to in the future. It is also meaning we can clean our newer carpets to help keep them in top condition. The cleaner arrives in a large box and needs a small amount of assembly. This is extremely simple and you will be ready to go within minutes. To use the cleaner you simply fill the top reservoir with warm water and soap (a small bottle of which is provided with the cleaner), click it into place and plug the machine in.To operate you push the cleaner forward whilst holding the level in the handle and then release the lever and pull the cleaner back. This means that when pushing forward the water and soap are released into the carpet and when pulled back it is sucked out. The instructions suggest you may want to go over the soaked patch with the suction on a couple more times which I found to be beneficial in getting the carpet to dry quicker. That is all there is to it, it is easily the simplest carpet cleaner I have ever used and also without doubt the easiest to operate.Obviously in order to ensure it remains lightweight the amount of water the machine contains is small meaning you need to refill quite often if you have a larger area to clean but this is so simple and easy it is not really a hardship at all.The water that comes up from our cleaned carpets was, frankly, disgusting which is a very good thing. This means that the cleaner is removing loads of dirt from the carpet. The stains we have do not seem to have vanished as yet but they are certainly less noticable than they were. This is not a low cost item but it really is a worthwhile investment if you have a home with carpets you need to keep clean. Other units I have used are so cumbersome that it is a huge chore to get them out and used however I can see this unit being used on a regular basis due to how easy it is to get on with. If you are in the market for a carpet cleaner I cannot recommend this highly enough.

This is a solid frequent-use carpet cleaner. I think as long as it's used within it's design, it's great. It's made for getting out to clean up quick spills, or to keep a new carpet clean by using as a fortnightly clean or a routine similar. It's compact and weight is made for ease of small, consistent use, noticeably so in the small clean water tank and light rollers and scrubbers. It's super easy to use and very lightweight on the arms - efficient, fast, easy to lift. It's similar to a big upright vacuum cleaner, rather than a carpet cleaning machine. It doesn't handle well to do a deep or proper clean of an older or dirtier carpet - you'll need a bigger machine or professional services for that i'd think,as the small clean water tank would get very annoying to keep refilling, as would emptying the dirty water one.I've had, and got, a fair few carpet cleaners in my time, and the Bissell, which I absolutely love and think is fantastically designed, does admittedly do a better job. But, like many carpet cleaners, it's still heavy and big despite them making it as close to a vacuum cleaner as possible. I've got a much bigger Vax one which also does a deeper clean, but then it's priced and also designed to, and the payoff with it is that it's more of a pain to actually use.A lot of how well it cleans is in the solution you use - it recommends the Vax stuff but to be honest, there are other brands that do differently. It also requires some skill to use the machine right - warm water, slower movement is better, and a quite soapy solution i've found works better. Make sure you spend the time sucking the water out, almost triple as many times as you spent spraying, otherwise the water will sit on the underlay and go stale. So overall I think it's down to what you'd want it for. For light, frequent use of maintaining a clean carpet, perfect. For a deep clean as an alternative to getting a new carpet, I don't think you will get quite the results you expect, and it will be a lot of work and effort using this machine to do so.

This is apparently the smallest Carpet Cleaner Vax have ever made and so it brings the advantages and disadvantages that its size inevitably brings. However, if you live in one of the millions of smaller townhouses or apartments particularly if they have stairs you will be well pleased with what is on offer here. Where this model cores is in two key areas-it does clean smaller and medium sized carpets very effectively-you can literally see the dirt being sucked out of the pile in a way which is a bit shaming! There is only a single brush head but the suction power is good unless you have massive areas to cover. The twin water tanks ensure the complete separation of your clean water from the rapidly dirtying variety in the other tank. However, even when both tanks are full this remains a lightweight device to both push and lift so don't worry too much if you need to move between floors and up stairs. Another rarity these days is the quality of the instructions-in colour and actually giving you a decent idea how to put the machine together-easy enough on this occasion with snap together connections so you know when they have been fitted together properly. The lead is also a good length (just under 7 metres) so you don't have to be right next to a socket all the time. Note a 250 ml bottle of Vax Premium Carpet Cleaner is included with the device. If you have a smaller house with areas that get regularly soiled this is a very worthwhile and practical investment which you will actually find yourself using on a regular basis.

This Vax carpet cleaner is one of their smallest and lightest yet. I have another one of their models and this one is significantly lighter and easy to carry around from room to room and store away. It takes a tiny bit of quick assembly out of the box and you can start using it immediately. Fill the top water tank with warm water and some of the supplied Vax Platinum solution (which smells lovely) and get started!Move the cleaner in a forwards motion while squeezing the handle to dispense the cleaning solution, and pull backwards after releasing the squeeze, to suck up the dirty water from the carpet. Do this over and over in straight lines and you will see immediate results. The suction of the dirty water from your carpets is very strong and you can see it happening in the clear front part of the cleaner, which is quite satisfying. The dirty water collects in the lower tank and is kept separate from the clean water tank. Both tanks clip in and out very easily for emptying and cleaning. The suction is very good and means your carpets dry in no time after cleaning. This washer is indispensible for people who have pets and is great for high traffic carpet areas, such as hallways and corridors. After use, your carpets will look so much brighter and feel soft and refluffed underfoot. My only criticism would be that it's very difficult to clear all the carpet fluff out from the brush. I might be missing a trick but I just have used a bottle brush to try and clean up in there.

We currently have a Bissell washer, but it's so bulky and heavy we don't really use it often, unless there's been a pet accident. This is the lightest washer we've ever tried, and it's come a long way since the bulky days of Vax cleaners. It's pretty quick and easy to assemble out of the box (didn't need instructions), fill with warm water, drop in the cleaning solution and off you go.You use it like a hoover, pushing forward and pressing the dispensing lever, and pulling back with the lever released, so that the water gets suctioned back up. It's got great suction and yet it didn't pull up my light fluffy rug, nor my rubber-backed ones. Obviously I needed to use this more on the heavy pile rug,but with just one tank full, I was able to do a 8ft by 6ft pile rug, 2 x 2ft by 12 foot runners, a 4ft by 3ft mat and a 2ft by 1.5ft mat.The mats and runners were touch dry, but the rug did need overnight to feel fully dry, as the central heating is off now. I'd think that if washed with the heating on, a couple of hours and it'd have been fine to walk on. A bit of good news is that the scent that remains from washing is pleasant and 4 days on, I can smell it faintly still. It's seemed to keep the cats off the rug, too, though no doubt that will change as the scent wears off.For the price, it's brilliant. I can't fault it in any way, and it's easy to stash in a corner until the next time it's needed.

Amazing carpet cleaner!Pros:It's lightweight, super easy to use, has seemingly magic powers the way it cleans dirt out of carpets, leaves carpets looking like brand new, is relatively cheap, cleans carpets with minimal effort very quickly. Absolutely brilliant!Cons:It takes longer to clean the machine after use than it does to clean the carpets! You have to unscrew lots of screws, remove the brush bar and clean the underside which is a real faff. It is also difficult to get all of the water out of the dirty water container as the emptying hole is half way up the tank. Once you have cleaned your carpets and emptied the tanks, the carpet cleaner becomes incontinent and will dribble for several hours after use so put an old towel underneath or stand on a non-carpeted floor until dry and before storing away.Overall:This is a brilliant, lightweight carpet cleaner for small rooms / rugs etc. The pros of this cleaner far outweigh the cons, hence why I've still given 4 stars.

Vax Compact Power Carpet CleanerIn the box.The cleaner, sample cleaning fluid and instructions.Set up.You need to add warm water and the cleaner to the reservoir and then it is ready to go. You use it like a vacuum cleaner on the carpet. It drops water and the cleaning fluid and then suck it back up again with the dirt.Effectiveness.I have tried many of these over the last few years from all makers and at all price points. This one is ok but not without its faults. It can leak a bit and leave the carpet very wet necessitating and second p[ass. Also the reservoir is not very big so it is only suitable for smaller rooms. It does a good job when it works but not as good as my old pet Vax.The problem with that one was you needed a degree in Physics to set it up and fault find when it stopped working. However, it would clean a whole room on one fill. This one takes 4.Overall.A compact cleaner for smaller areas, has a few design faults but overall its better than most.

I've been using this for a while now and I have to say I am really impressed. I've used a few of the carpet cleaners that you can hire before and they do a through job, but they are very heavy and quite cumbersome. This VAX unit on the other hand is great! It's not too heavy so it's easy to manoeuvre, even with full tanks of water.Performance wise, it cleaned my living room carpet really effectively. We have a cream carpet and it was looking a bit tired, but after using the VAX, it has come up really nicely. Since it's so easy to use, I will definitely be using it more regularly to keep my carpet in good order. The only minor negative for me,is that the carpet was still slightly damp after use (this is likely because it doesn't have as powerful motor as the larger units?), so I find it best to wait for a nice day when you can have the windows open to help it dry out a bit quicker. Other than that, it's brill, does a great job and it not too big to store either.

I love carpet cleaners. I love to see all the gunk come up from my now clean carpets and this cleaner gave me all that. Its easy to put together, you just attach the handle to the pole and pole to the base. Then, fill up the water bottle and you are set. This cleaner comes with a free bottle of carpet cleaner, its a small bottle at 250ml but its enough to do at least 4 good sized rooms. The cleaner is heavier than a vac (as to be expected) but its compact and light for a vac cleaner. Its easy to push and the cord is a decent length. In terms of cleaning, well, i think the pic on this review is a good indication. Definitely feels like my carpets have a new lease of life.If you've not used a cleaner before:Ensure that you dont add to much water to the carpet.Only wet the area you are working on once (by holding the button down and pushing cleaner forward) then release the button and go over the area a good 4 or 5 times to get up the excess water.

I love this machine. It's light enough for me to be able to move it around and it seems to work as well as the much larger, heavier and more expensive ones. Because it's so light and easy to handle it doesn't seem like a major chore getting it out to clean the carpets. The one downside is cleaning it afterwards, Mostly that's ok , but it is slightly irritating having to unscrew a lot of screws to remove the brush to clean it, but it's doable. The filter is easily removable for cleaning which is a plus. It seems to throw out quite a lot of fluff from the carpets, but that isn't a huge problem, and i daresay it will lessen- I have only had it a week or two when writing this, but I've already cleaned a number or rugs and carpets. A damaged box wouldn't have worried me anyway, but I was surprised that even the box seemed OK to me- didn't seem damaged. All in all I am very pleased with this machineRead full review...

I've had a number of Carpet Washers over the years. Both large & small & various makes. How much I've paid for them is immaterial. So I've diversified to my satisfaction.Without a doubt the VAX 800 CVCPV011 Wins hands down.Light, Compact, and Highly Movable its a joy to use......!!!!For me. "Gone are the days of struggling with heavy super powered units that seem to just make a lot of noise don't perform half as much".OK you have to refill more often. But the way the machine is designed makes it is so easy to that.Everything on this machine has been carefully thought out at the design stage and I simply cannot fault it.I bought mine for £99.99. For that sort of money its an astonishing deal. But I wouldn't mind paying a whole lot more for it if and when I'm in the marked to buy another machine.Read full review...

I am so glad that I settled for this model. Looked at several others and chose this one because of all the positive reviews and I have not been disappointed. Very easy to put together, simple to fill with water and shampoo, very easy to empty the dirty water out, nice and light to use, so very easy to use as well, very economical with the shampoo and did a superb job on my cream coloured carpet. Only down side is that although I vacuumed thoroughly before shampooing, it did find a lot of dog hair that seemed to have been embedded in the carpet and it sticks to the inside of the front cover and is very hard to remove without taking apart the cover and roller.Even with that little problem I would very strongly recommend this machine to anybody.

Having got 2 children and carpets up and down we needed a light and compact carpet cleaner and this is perfect for whta we wanted, out of the box you need to assemble it then add some warm water, then add the cleaning solution and away you go. The best part is seeing all the dirt sucking out of the cart and is strangely satisfying. Being small and compact its easy to store under the satires when not in use.You can use other carpet cleaning solutions so your not stuck with just the Vax brand ones with many available in the supermarkets. It can be a bit fiddly trying to clean the satires but I soon got the hang of it,the carpets soon dry as it sucks up most of the water leaving you with a fresh and cleaning smelling carpet!
