Wow. I've never had a cordless vacuum cleaner before and wasn't sure how powerful or useful one would be, considering the price. But I'm a total convert. I honestly think this is a game changer for me, I'm not sure how much I'll need a corded upright after this. In fact during the week that we've had this I haven't once used my usual upright Dyson 41 animal, as this cordless has been good enough. We have a relatively roomy house, with a messy teenager, 3 dogs and 2 cats. I envisaged using the large Dyson most of the time, and the cordless for top ups, especially with so many pets, and I thought I'd been needing to do a more thorough clean up every few days. we normally do at least a quick vacuum most days. However, I'm really pleased at how powerful the suction is, I've not needed to get the large one out at all. The tools are all good, but I'm disappointed to find that the extra tools I bought for the upright don't fit the V8. Shame, as several are very useful. The charging is super easy, just click into the dock that can fix to the wall, and it charges while it's being stored. I've not timed the charging time, but it's always ready when I've needed it. As for the length of time it lasts on one charge, I tested the boost setting from fully charged until it died, a full 9 minutes. The boost setting is powerful enough to feel the pull on the carpet from the suction, and it really seemed to get the dust from deep in the pile. So far I've not managed to drain the whole battery when using the normal suction setting. We have laminate across the whole downstairs and one large rug in the living room. So one charge is enough for the whole floor with a boost on the rug. Upstairs is mostly carpet, but because its obviously much less used (and no dogs allowed up there either), the normal mode seems fine most of the time. So with regard to the useable time per charge, I've found it to be more than enough for the whole house if it's not too dirty. However, for a full deep clean, I think I'll either use the corded upright, or do it over a few days on boost, which isn't as convenient. can see that this could totally replace any other form of vacuum cleaner, except for one caveat. The dust canister is too small for a whole house clean (especially with pets), so it needs frequent emptying. It's not at all hard and I hold it under the partially closed lid of the wheelie bin and it's not too messy. Pull on the red catch and it lifts the canister and the bottom drops open to release the dust inside. It's easy to hold in the hand and the on button (that you need to hold down all the time to make it work) is very light touch, so you are barely aware of holding it down. Just one small problem we had out of the box, it arrived with a little charge and I accidentally started it up when removing from the box. I let go of the trigger button, but it didn't stop. So I thought it must be a toggle on/off button, but pressing again didn't make any difference. It took several presses before it stopped. My husband and daughter all had the same problem. I thought I'd have to call Dyson for advice. However, after the first couple of uses, that seemed to stop so we think it was just a "sticky" button. So my overall pros and cons list isPros - Light and very easy to use. Good use time per battery charge. Easy to empty. Filter easy to remove and clean. Good attachments although I wish my tangle free turbine brush fitted. A soft dusting brush would also be good. Surprisingly powerful. Capable of most of a house for a light to normal clean (would need to empty more than once though).Cons - Much smaller dust canister than upright, but by necessity if it's to remain handheld. Needs frequent emptying. Not enough charge for a full house on high suction. Trigger button could stick a bit. Feels a bit pricey for a handheld (until you use it and realise it can more or less replace a normal vacuum cleaner). Overall I really like it! This could change the way I vacuum forever. I'm certainly using this more often for small pickups, like fluff near the dog's sleeping area, whereas I might have put it off until I felt it was a big enough job to get the upright out. I'm a total convert.

It’s long sorry but I tested it for month to be sure. Spent hours looking for something that could handle the job. Finally settled on giving this a go. I have a mixture of floors (carpet wood and vinyl) and live with a builder a football player teenager and 2 dogs a husky Alsatian and collie. Anyone who has either will understand the fur problem but especially the husky (think explosion in cotton wool factory) it took me nearly an hour with cylinder hoover to do carpets alone especially after they had used carpet as towels on bath day. Trust me I have given this a thorough testing and can’t believe how well it done I can do entire house in 25 mins it even brought some life back into pile of carpet. The fur has been pretty effortless to deal with since having this and now do entire house daily sometimes twice during heavy shedding and only had to use max suction on bath day on landing but battery drains super fast on this but to be fair I just done everywhere else first then finished there so I could complete it and charge. I would recommend you buy the fluffy head for wood/ laminated floors as brush is not meant for these and tends to miss large bits of debris but to be honest that’s the only negative I have found is the cost of buying machine and extra for fluffy. Would also recommend buying spare set of filters for pet owners as we know the doggie smell is an issue spare set helps massively with this even a little spritz of favourite scent before putting in ( make sure dry first) but any pet owners will understand what I mean when I say buying a new hoover is a mission and I’m so glad I went for this and not another well known cordless it kicks fur butt My nan ( think hyacinth bucket ) bought the other and she was shocked at how well mine did after just a week. She thought I had had carpet professionally cleaned even though I do it every it every month or so with my cleaner. She admitted I had the better one. Sorry its long but if I save 1 person the hassle and expense I had looking for something to handle the fur job it’s worth it. Standard suction fully charged you get approx 40 mins on max suction 15-20 mins but to be honest the standard suction is more than enough to do 99% of jobs. Filters easy to clean and so is machine itself and effortless to empty

I've had the V8 Animal for about a week so far & generally I'm happy with it. It's lightweight & manoeuvrable so it's easy to use. I got the V8 for the extended battery life. 40 minutes run time (at normal speed) with a published recharge time of about 5 hours. The concept of the powered brush head is something I've been in favour of for many years - I have owned a Vax & a Miele with a power head; both of these derive their brushhead power from the 'suck' of the vacuum cleaner. So to power the brush head you lose a little suction. Not so with the V8.The tools are a good mix & having a combined charging station & tool store is a good idea....but ...with the V8 Animal you get a couple of extra tools (small powered brush, for example). Where do I put these? I think Dyson should have designed a charge station that would hold these, otherwise what do you do with them? Chuck them in a cupboard somewhere?I think a smarter approach would have been to devise either a charge station with the extra capacity or an add-on component to the existing station that would allow you to store the extra tools. An improvement to the design might be to include some white LEDs in the brush head so you can see what you're doing when getting into those darker places. I realise this will cost you a little battery power so maybe a way to switch these on & off either manually via a switch or automatically using a light sensor. Just a thought. The V8 is quieter than the V6 or V7. Normally when I vacuum, my pets make a bee line for the door! The V8 is a little quieter & so they've been a little happier to stay in the room while I clean. The powered head, like my Miele, struggles with things like old cat crunchies - it gets maybe half of them & chooses to launch the remainder around the room. So far it has been able to cope with going from carpet to lino/tile & back without a problem. My Miele didn't do well with this; it used to get 'stuck' on surfaces like lino because of its extra vacuum power. All in all, the V8 has been pretty good & I've been pleased with the results.

Well what can I say .... I feel like I've been warp factor 10 into the future, why I never bought one of the earlier cordless models I shall never know , being the owner of several Labrador's and a cat over the years we have always looked for the most powerful best filter vacuum in the market and apart from owning a vax at some point it's always been Dyson and the Animal range ,I have the DC25 Animal upright and as great as it is this leaves it behind in all area's , I'm a big guy who likes to help the Mrs out by doing my bit around the home and moving the DC about and around chair legs, sofas, cabinets and TV stands etc without getting tangled and hardly any room to move was a serious chore, and fighting the hose when trying to do the stairs made me swear more than once and also carrying it up the stairs too , well now with the V8 im doing everything in a quarter of the time with better effect as its so versatile and powerful and lightweight, off the floor to the hard to reach corners of conservatory and them pesky spiders and webs is now so effortless my Arachnophobic wife is actually happy to go hunting them down and says it's the best bug buster ever ( thank you Dyson ) And that's not all using it on all surfaces is excellent.... tile to carpet to wood flooring to window blinds , I have just used it in the car too and a fantastic job it's done there as well ..... WOW Dyson wow wow wow .... we are soooo happy with this product ( if you couldn't already tell ) the only thing I can't comment on will be it's lifespan but if it's anything like your previous products we have owned I don't think we will have much of a problem there , I don't really know how your team will top this vacuum in the future this V8 is basically Perfect , top quality great solid construction excellent tools easy to empty and the filter cleaning looks like an easy process too , Brilliant piece of kit for sure .

Despite not having the cleaning time of a mains powered vacuum, I’m able to quickly move around my home cleaning more often and dare I say it with more fun than a plug in. We recently moved house and have yet not managed to replace an awful living-room carpet that seems to cling on to any dirt or fluff. My previous Dyson had better suction but not a rotating brush head and was not able to effectively clean this carpet. The V8 Animal glides around the living-room easily removing things that previously required lots of spot scrubbing.I also showed it to my mother who has always complained about cleaning the stairs with a heavy vacuum. Using the small mechanical head she was quickly convinced of its ability and intends to purchase one in the future.I have also used this to dust the fabric sofa with much more ease than holding a long unwieldy tube.I have a three-bedroom house and can dust and clean floors on a single charge. The large rotating head does drain the battery quicker, but is worth it for the extra scrubbing ability. I have only used the boost mode a couple of times, once when I dropped something in the kitchen, it did a great job drained the battery much faster. However, with a recharge time of 5 hours this really is no problem. My only criticism is that the wall mounted charging station does not have holders for all the accessories. There are 2 clips on the base which easily store the duster and crevice tool. The extender tube and large mechanical head attach to the machine when it is charging, but there is nowhere to store the small mechanical head?Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase; it was expensive however it is clearly woth every penny. If you have kids or pets it is perfect for those quick spills. If you struggle with the weight of a mains powered vacuum or have a smaller home this is a great choice for you.

I've owned my Dyson V8 now for just over three years and unfortunately it's still going strong!! I say unfortunately because I'm eager to get my hands on the new Dyson V11 but can't justify the purchase while my V8 is still doing a good job. In the main I have been more than satisfied with the performance of this machine, however, having used it now for over 3 years, there are a just a few "niggles" that could be addressed. I sometimes find the main motorised head is TOO powerful and just "flirts" the odd hard piece of debris (ie bits of cat litter) across the room and when it does pick it up, once the machine is docked, falls out again because, unlike it's predecessor, the Dyson DC59 (which we still use for dirtier jobs), there is no "back stop" between the collection canister and the main wand. Like some other reviewers, I too find that having to keep the "on" switch depressed during use quite uncomfortable and wonder whether this has contributed in some way to the arthritic joint on my left index finger. Unlike the DC59, the V8 tool release button is located on the tools and not on the wand which makes the tools tricky to release while trying to hold the machine. Once cleaned, I also find the powered motor head roller is often tricky to replace as it doesn't just slot back in to it's proper position. Despite being pushed in as far as possible, I often find the filter falls out of the top of the machine so have resorted to masking tape which does not enhance the aesthetics of the machine! As well as 2 upright Dyson Vacuums, my V8 is the third Cordless Dyson I've owned (the first being the DC35 purchased in 2009) and irrespective of my minor criticisms, I consider Dyson machines far superior than cheaper well known versions and well worth the price tag. So, short of vandalism, it looks like I've a wait before my next purchase!!

After listening to 6 out of 10 people I know recounting how amazing Dyson vacuum’s are I finally decided to buy one. My sister had just purchased this model and was full of its praise so knowing how shrewd she is I decide to follow suit. It has good suction and a nice selection of attachments. I live in a small 3 bed end terrace and found I could not complete a full vacuum of the house if I used this to ‘dust my surfaces and clean the crevices. In fact the maximum 40min usage can only be achieved if you use the small attachments on reduced suction. If you use maximum suction and the power head for floors your usuals time is sucked down to 7mins. I had to do downstairs then put on charge before I could do upstairs.I suffer with rheumatoid arthritis so also wanted a light weight easy to manueouvre hoover which wouldn’t irritate my condition. The design is good but I have two problems with it - number one the unit is not actually that light, you quickly notice it’s weight after a few mins use especially when using the attachments and trying to get into corners and dust the back of appliances and furniture etc. The second issue I have is that you have to hold the power buttton on all the time which made my wrist and thumb ache. I cannot see this replacing my conventional vacuum but for a quick flick round this is fine. Overall I feel this is an expensive second hoover and in hindsite I would not buy another. This is based solely on my experience as a RA sufferer and as someone who likes to vacuum throughly every surface top to bottom of my house. This mobile simply hasn’t got the charge orflexibility of my corded vacuum.

I bought a Dyson V8 Animal (Refurbished) a bit over a week ago and it has delivered everything it says in the description, ordering a refurbished model I was hesitant as the battery life could be reduced or some minor visual deviation could occur. I'm happy to say that neither of these occurred and although the battery life sounds short, you will find yourself vaccuming the house in far less time with the increased portability and better suction compared to other vaccumes. The only criticisms I have are related to the mount and not the actual vaccume itself, unfortunately it only holds two attachments (Excluding the regular head)and in normal circumstances I would let this pass but with such a highly acclaimed bunch of engineers at Dyson you would really have thought that they would have managed to find a way to make a mount that will hold all attachments out of the box, this would make for a much better user experience even though I can understand the rational. (You may not use all attachments as some could be considered niche)The refurbished model I received had some dust on it I can only assume from previous usage or testing, this was very minor and cleaned easily but I was surprised that Dyson wouldn't clean the machine exterior before sending the product to the customer. (The hepa filter looked to be replaced though which was good) I'll end this review by saying that myself and my partner will likely stick with Dyson going forward as the quality of life it gives is actually really noticeable, the build quality and modular design is also very satisfying and makes for a good user experience.

I read all the reviews before deciding to buy this vac as it does seem a tad expensive for a small portable vacuum to do the car, caravan and small areas in the house but I really need not have had any concerns, this vac is all Dyson says it is and more.OK it's not really for vacuuming a whole 3 bed semi every day month in month out, but surely that is what the mains vacs are for.It has loads of attachments that seems to cater for all eventualities, ideal for the caravan, small enough to take with you and more than big enough to clean more than once in a single charge, my only wish is for it to have a 12 volt charge cable as an accessory so I can charge it whilst we are away.I have found the suction on normal setting to be as good as my mains Dyson, and it cleans up just as effortlessly.I have read that some wanted the switch to stay on rather than having to keep it pressed, I have to say, the switch is so sensitive and it takes so little pressure to keep it on I could not envisage it causing any discomfort. It also takes little effort to control the unit, very light pressure on the handle is needed just to guide the unit rather than grip it and put lots of effort to move it around the floor. All in all, a very accomplished vacuum. Yes it is a tad expensive for a portable vacuum, but it's a Dyson, very well designed, very well built and very very effective. small areas say just one or 2 rooms, stairs, cars, caravans and odd things like sealing vac bags etc this is really excellent, 11/10.So please Mr Dyson, can you do me a 12 volt charge cable please to make it "Perfect".

Quiet, lightweight and powerful. Easy to empty and no bags to change. What's not to like?Well, its NOT as sucky as my normal mains-powered vacuum cleaner - BUT because it's just so easy to grab and use, the house gets vacuumed far more frequently so overall the house is cleaner since we've had it.Perfect for hard floors (due to having a very hairy dog, our conservatory and kitchen floors get a daily once-over) and also stairs (the main reason we bought it). The powered small brush tool is excellent, Somethings it seems a little reluctant to pick up - dead flies being one, for some reason. The long hose once blocked with pet-hair and this caused the motor to run hot then stop, but a few minutes taking things apart soon revealed the problem - and we were back up and running.Having tinnitus a quiet vacuum cleaner is essential - and this one is just right. We've had it for several months now and can't imagine being without it. There are a few things I'd change if I could - the way that the attachments clip on and off could be improved so that it can be done with one hand rather than two, and the waste bin sometimes falls off when emptying. The 'screws' that allow you to take the brush unit apart for cleaning are soft plastic and quickly get chewed up by the 'tool' (usually a 2p- piece) used to turn them. I can see these being replaced within the next couple of years.Overall though this is an excellent machine - I just hope it lasts a good few years as it's quite expensive!

I bought this 4weeks ago and I have to say I'm over the moon with it so far. Its surpassed my expectations, although for the price I would want it to! I read somewhere that it's only when you use the handheld bit without the the motorised head that it sat for 40mins, and if using this I should expect a lot less battery life. I've actually carried out my own tests and on 1 of the test I used all the tools but I used the stick with the motorised head 90% of the time ( used a timer) and my battery life lasted for 38 minutes. On another test I used only the stick with motorised head on full power continuously and it lasted for 8.6 minutes ( mac mide is suppose to be 7 mins).I have to think this is because all my floors are wood and tile so therefore the machine doesn't have to work as hard as it would have to on carpet. But this as definitely made me happy.Although I love my Dc41 animal, this machine (V8) does everything that can do only better as its so much more easier to use. Hoovering/vacuuming is actually fun to do now, dare I say.The main things I love about this machine are:1: quick & easy emptying ( no more fingers trying to get dirt out)2: powerful suction ( feels just as powerful as my DC41)3: I can now reach where I couldn't easily before.4: fun to use, great design, long battery There's many more great things to but I think I'll leave it there for now. Best thing I could of bought myself.

It took me forever to decide whether to get a cordless or an upright. Would a cordless be powerful enough as our main vacuum, would the charge last enough for a deep clean, would it pick up cat hair, then which one V8 or V6.In the end i opted for a cordless, and I'm so pleased that i did. Its so easy to use and changes the way that you clean. Rather than one big vacuuming session you can clear up as you go and its actually quite enjoyable to use. I opted for the V8 Animal primarily due to the fact that it was easier to open and empty. I seem to really struggle in the shop with the V6 and just thought that it would put me off using it if i couldn't get it to function! The charge lasts enough to clean the whole house or a deep clean of the ground floor. To be honest its only run out of charge once while I've been using it. When it does run out it charges really quickly. Because it is so easy to use along with the ease of the attachments you do find yourself cleaning more, doing those jobs you've been putting off or couldn't reach. Another reason why I'm pleased that i opted for the V8, the extended running time allows you to 'just quickly do that bit'All in all I'm really pleased with it, and really pleased that all my pondering on brands and upright vs cordless paid off. Id high recommend the V8 its easy to use and empty and the attachments mean that you can clean everything from your car to garden furniture.

We are long term Dyson users and have been satisfied with our products in the past; so, when my wife said she needed something lighter we looked to see what was available. We decided on the V8.My wife was really pleased with it, praising its lightness. We have only given it 4 stars as it does not replace our "plug in" Dyson, rather it complements it.In use the operating time is just as Dyson's publicity states. It is quite powerful, but not as much as the "plug in". It does virtually all we ask on a day-to-day basis, but we need to use the other vac a couple of times a month. It is especially good for the stairs. It falls down a bit when it comes to the car. Most cars have carpets which differ from house carpets, not having a woven pile. Bits get embedded in the fibres and the V8 does not always get them out. The attachments have soft bristles which are great for dusting, but not for dislodging grit from the carpets. The corded vac came with a hard bristle attachment which works really well for this but, would you believe it, they do not fit the hand held! Switching to the higher setting helps, but this seriously compromises operating time. Again Dyson accurately describe this.To sum up. If compared with a plug in Dyson it does not perform as well, but it is much better than any other cordless we have seen. After using it for a couple of months do we regret buying it? The answer is NO.

In a house with two adults, two children and a dog I'm finding that my Dyson is a necessity rather than a luxury! I have had Dyson vacuum cleaners for at least the last ten years, the Dyson V8 definitely lives up to expectation and some! I have had the Cordless V6 animal for the last year so I was very interested to see the difference. I wasn't disappointed. The first thing I noticed was it was much quieter which I like as do my children if they are watching tv! I was also impressed with how now, the time it lasts, has jumped to 40 minutes which does make a big difference. If you haven't had a cordless Dyson before and are wondering whether to change to one the answer is definitely yes, especially now with the extended time. I really felt that the suction has also improved immensely and it wasn't bad before! The amount of dust that is picked up is unbelievable I really feel like my carpets are getting a proper clean. I think the air purifier is a great addition too.The Dyson V8 animal is light to use and very easy to manipulate, easy to empty, and to change the different heads takes no time at all.I don't even have a vacuum cleaner with a cord in the house anymore, I do have an upright Dyson in the garage just in case but I haven't had to use it.All in all it is a great product and one I would definitely recommend. The V8 animal just makes life so much easier and vacuuming almost fun!
