I bought these for my wife. I previously had a pair of similar Salomon trainers, and was completely in love with them. Even when they were clearly worn out, I had difficulty parting with them. So when it came to my wife's turn to purchase a pair of trainers (or hiking shoes), she jumped at the chance to buy a pair of Salomons. They are definitely a good looking pair of shoes. They are also extremely well made, with nice detailing and quality finishing. The colour (blue and grey) is clean and very smart, especially when worn with a pair of jeans.Comfort-wise, they are very good indeed. My wife previously had a pair of Keen trainers, which are renowned for their slightly wide fitting. So she found the Salomon a little narrow to begin with, but after a few weeks of usage, she much preferred them to the Keens. And of course the Salomon has a terrific inner footbed, anatomically shaped to hug and support the foot. This was just perfect for my wife as she's had recurring problems with Plantar Fasciitis, and found this shoe was literally a great support. In terms of robustness, they seem to shrug off surface scuffs quite easily, and are also easy to keep clean. The lacing system is one of the best I've ever encountered, is quick and positive, and holds the foot securely with no fuss. Despite the tension on the laces, they show absolutely no signs of wear, even after a couple of months of heavy usage.Of course, these particular Salomons have a GTX lining, which is a bonus. But I've found that Salomon's own waterproof membrane is just as good as the pricier GTX, and comes in at a slightly cheaper price point - at the end of the day, it's a personal preference.Overall, these are excellent shoes that should, with care, last a long time. Their biggest single selling point to me (and my wife) is their comfort. Wearing these is like wearing a pair of favourite slippers...

These hiking shoes are amazing! I am a true 10 and was recommended to purchase a 9.5. Based on the recommendation, I would say that these shoes fit as expected. I recently took them for a 2 week hiking trip in Oregon where I hiked over 55 miles. It was my first time using hiking shoes and I will never go back. The grip on these shoes is really great for walking through streams and mud. I had almost no slip. I also could not feel any of the rocks that I was stepping on. Although my feet still got worn, the shoes really performed well and saved me a lot of pain. I can attest to the waterproof nature of these shoes (I kept standing in rivers) and what you will feel is cold from the temperature, but not wet. Usually, waterproof shoes will make your feet sweat and breathability comes at a compromise for a waterproof fit. I didn't find that to be the case. I wore regular socks and did not have any problems with my feet sweating or getting too hot. I really like the "laces" of these shoes and fit that they do stay put. One thing I want to mention is that it is important for you to put the black button thing on the laces inside of the pocket on the tongue of the shoe. If you get the strings/black button thing dirty, it will make it more difficult for the black thing to slide smoothly. Overall, I am very very impressed with these shoes and would highly recommend them to anyone looking to do any type of hiking.

I work outside in the weather often and needed a lightweight waterproof shoe that I could wear all day, this fit the bill and looks good to boot. Size was just right, however I went to a local store to try them on just in case. Ordered on Amazon to get the Green color and was about $60 cheaper. Insole was replaced with the same insole I put in all my work shoes that provides motion control and arch support as the insole in this shoe had no arch support. Keep in mind the inside of the shoe is not flat and some insoles that have flat plastic bottoms may not sit evenly or may squeak when you walk like mine occasionally do.Waterproof has been tested and works better than any I have tried before. Some showed concern about the quick lace system but I haven't had any problems with them, they are quick and easy to get on and off, and the pouch on the tongue hides the excess laces.

I neede a pair of hiking shoes for a weekend trip but don’t feel like packing my heavy hiking boots. So Amazon to the rescue. I couldn’t decide on this Salomon and Merrell siren edge, so I got both to try on. To my surprise, both size 8 look about a full size different! In fact, the UK equivalent size was 5.5 for Merrell and 6.5 for Salomon. I tried Salomon on. It’s heavenly. So cushy and comfy with great arch support. Unfortunately, it’s too big and seems more bulky and manly than the Merrell. So I think I’m going to keep the more feminine Merrell with real shoe lace (and fits me well) and send back the heavenly cushy Salomon. If I had more time, I probably would have exchanged for a smaller size of Salomon.Maybe some day...

Bought to replace my previous Salomon walking shoes. Loved these for 7 years and we've been on many a long distance hike together. Rapidly came to the conclusion that the dimensions/design of the shoe has changed. To their detriment. With the new lacing system it means that the support around the ankle has gone. Hence I've spent the last week with my left ankle strapped up after a hike on Sunday. The terrain wasnt anything extraordinary btw. So I've passed them onto a friend. Am now wearing a pair of Salomon trail running shoes which are nice and snug around ankle and do support my foot. This one didn't seem to.

These are the most comfortable hiking shoes I have ever owned. I hiked 4 miles in them the day after I purchased them and they had plenty of arch support, no rubbing, and had great tread. I was unsure about the pull cord for the laces but it never loosened while hiking. We were on a hiking trip for 7 days and I had no issues with them whatsoever. I also trail ran in them and they were great for that. I followed the other reviews and purchased 1/2 smaller than what I normally wear and they were perfect. I will definitely purchase this brand again!!

For years, my favorite walking/hiking shoes have been Salomon. I have a wide foot that "likes" somewhat loose shoes. After reading the reviews of this show which were how they fit larger than normal, I thought they would be a perfect fit for me. Even loosely laced they felt too snug. I almost returned them. However, holding them up to other shoes they seemed to be equal in length and width so I decided to keep them and break them in slowly. Which is what I'm doing. I think they'll be OK but were definitely not as loose as I'd hoped.

I absolutely love these shoes! This is the third pair I've purchased so far, and having tried a fair few other brands these have become a firm favourite. Great grip from the sole, super comfy and supportive but robust enough to deal with a day out in the hills. The fact that they're waterproof is also a godsend. The laces are handy and never come undone when you're out and about, and the shoes themselves are of high quality - it takes many a walk to wear them out. Would recommend, especially at this price.

I’ve had these for a little over 2 years now and have hiked in a lot of different terrains. These shoes are the best you can buy! The grip is awesome, they are really waterproof, and super comfortable! I love the quick lace and they stay tight. I’m sold on this brand. Went on a hike where they recommended having spikes but the grip on these is so good we didn’t need them. Lots of snow hiking and crossing creek paths and feet stay dry. Comfortable for short and long hikes. Highly recommend!!!

I just spent a week on hood canal which is a mucky sink down a foot or more tide flat when the tide goes out. I forgot my rubber boots do these were my only option. I spent hours with my feet slipped all the way to almost the top in muck and crossing small channels of water completely submerging the shoe and my feet were almost completely dry bi couldn't believd it. I tried 5 or 6 pairs of shoes before I got these and they were by far the most comfortable (and most expensive).

I have to confess I'd had a pair similar to these before & wore them until they fell apart! From day 1 they're so comfortable - admittedly I ordered a half size larger than I would normally but no rubbing - no blisters - just happy feet :o)The quick tie thing is better this time (easier to release) so it's really easy to secure & release the shoe. No problems pounding pavements, walking the dog or scaling Snowdon! (although my legs did let me down on the last one!)

I bought these shoes 16 mouth ago and have worn them everyday. The main body of the shoes are still good but the waterproofness has failed and now I get soaking wet feet if I walk in dewy grass. I'm disappointed as I expected them to last longer. However they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever had and my back and hips no longer hurt as much and people have remarked that I'm walking better, so I will buy them again.

Though I tried these on at REI before ordering them from Amazon, the womens' size 7 that arrived fits significantly larger than the womens' size 7 I tried on. So I wear thicker socks, and for the most part, have found these shoes to be excellent for hiking on trails as well as in cities. I especially appreciate that they are lightweight, and I like the muted colors which were not available at REI.

I like the salomons, they are very comfortable and didn't hurt my feet when breaking them in (I still haven't put many miles on them, or tested the water-proofing)They feel somewhat large, about half a size, from what I expected (compared to my Merrells), not sure if because the shoe is actually larger, or because of the funky lacing system that I can't get tight enough.Anyway I'm happy!

I've recently taken up Nordic walking and was recommended to buy walking shoes. My walking boots are Salomon so I went for this brand. They are comfortable, fit well and look smart. I have wide feet and these suit me well. I'm not a great fan of the locking laces and find they loosen during a walk and would prefer an old-fashioned double-knot. However I would buy these again
