These shoes are more like a friend to me than a material possesion. What I love about them is the older and more beaten they get the better they look. For some reason all shoes i have owned before start to look terrible after they have been used for some time, these still look good to me 13 months in after heavy daily use for work 10 hours per day 5 days a week as a courier. Theyve been used in snow, rain, and on all surfaces. I wish the toe piece was leather or something elsw other than the black synthetic material as they have holes and cracks in them now but not to the point where I cant still use them. The vibram sole are now flat without grip but still plenty of thickness in them. The sole also has become unglued in some parts but still usable. They seem to have lasted twice as long as other. shoes so far and I rekon they will last about 18mths total for me. If the toe piece didnt crack and the sole had no glue issues I would give 5 stars. They are very comfortable and once you have worn these there is no turning back. No other shoe compares it is indeed The Mother of All Boots. I have bought a second pair now.

I bought these in a hurry for a 320 mile walk after some new more expensive shoes fell apart before I even started hiking. I was glad I'd bought one euro size bigger than my everyday shoes. They seemed comfortable out of the box and proved very durable, especially the Vibram soles. I used them in a wide range of conditions from sand dunes to high rocky summits and minor scrambles in Snowdonia. The insoles are absurdly thin giving virtually no cushioning and for any serious use they need to be replaced with something better. The uppers are too complicated, they don't dry quickly and get a bit stinky after ten days or so outdoors in wet weather. Merrells are notoriously narrow in the forefoot and these were no exception,if you have wide metatarsals like me you'll get pinch blisters under your small toes on any extended hike although they're fine for casual use and short country walks. I have a narrow-footed mate who swears by them and wears them all the time, work and pub as well as walking.

These replaced an old pair of walking shoes which took a real pounding this year.I'd read the reviews so ordered a larger size. My Columbia shoes are 10, I needed an 11 on these Merrell's to be comfortable. They come with an easily removable insole, I removed it for my custom orthotic, they literally popped straight out.I've worn these shoes for at least 4.5 miles a day for the last 10 weeks and they are still as good as new, no sign of wear or damage. After 45+ miles I'd have expected to see any obvious defects come to the surface, so overall I'm happy with the quality. It's worth noting that these are not waterproof. They are breathable, your feet won't overheat but in anything more than a shower you'll have wet feet, and during the recent colder mornings you'll notice that they won't keep your feet particularly warm either.I'm very happy with these, perfect for what I need them for, they deserve the MOAB tag and I'm happy they'll last me for a few years to come.

I've always struggled with my feet overheating whilst walking, no matter what time of year or what kind of terrain. Having hot feet in itself isn't great, but what's worse is usually the build-up of sweat that makes your feet freeze as soon as you stop - makes the walk home a real nightmare. These are the first shoes that I've not experienced any problems with, even as we're now going into summer I can comfortably walk for miles with no problems. Pair them up with some good merino wool socks and there are no problems with sweat either, wicks the moisture away perfectly. Very comfortable too.My only complaint is that the arch support can become a problem if you're carrying a really heavy pack, can start to dig into your feet a little, but that might just me and it really is only for heavy loads - if you're carrying a coat, water and your lunch you'll have no issues whatsoever.

This shoe does not profess to be waterproof and in fact that is one of its strengths - as a result it does not have a Goretex (or similar) sock as part of its construction and breathes much better as a result. My feet stay very cool in this shoe on hot days during the summer which is not often the case with other similar shoes, most of which seem to feel the need to be able to claim they are waterproof.I have other hiking shoes for the winter which I use for adverse conditions which are much more waterproof and I choose which shoe to wear on the basis of my expected use and the weather. These shoes are comfortable and my feet are well supported. They look great to my eyes and seem well made.you will be very satisfied with them as long as, unlike some other comments, you do not try and use them in circumstances other than what they were designed to be suitable for.

TLDR: Comfy. decently breathable. Raised outer sole feels good. Grip could be better. Heavier than usual.I generally go on hikes during summer while wearing some generic sneakers. After all day hiking I would always get blisters and my feet would hurt.At some point I said "no more" and decided to invest in these shoes.Mind you they are not perfect, but are really close to perfection in my opinion. The only downsides are that they are not waterproof, nor does it say that anywhere in the description mind you.And the other downside is that they don't have much grip especially when they get slightly wet.I like the fact that the outer sole is slightly raised, this makes it possible to walk on slightly damp terrain without getting out feet wet. These shoes became my daily driver since they are soo comfy even tho they might be a bit heavier than my usual shoes.

This is my 3rd pair of these Merrills they fit so well, very very comfortable and suitable for low or high level walking and hiking... or just walking the dog in the winter ?? ok now I have started wearing them about 6 weeks ago, there is a major problem which in 7 years I didn’t have with my previous pair of Moabs, they are leaking badly in the rain at the tie area on both boots... I’m not even walking in much more than 1 inch of rain so no chance of being any good hillwalking.... very very disappointing and very very annoying to say the least as my previous pair were brilliant in all weather in all terrains, and as I also returned the More expensive black Merrill just a few weeks before the Moab purchase due to a serious fault in the internal heel cup I’m starting to wonder if this seller is selling 2nds ie quality rejects from Merrill factories....

Uses the same lasts as the Moab Mk1 shoe, and fits the same ( I take UK 10 shoe and the UK 11 Merrell fits perfectly ).Unsurpassed levels of comfort and excellent arch, heel and ankle support on long day hikes, I have never ever experienced any soreness or foot swelling with any Merrell shoes. Air cushion absorbs impact, which is great as 99% of my hiking is on tarmac.Durability is fantastic, the uppers and Vibram soles wear and wear and wear for thousands of miles/kms plus they look far more respectable than training shoes, and are an excellent choice for everyday casual footwear if you care about comfort and your foot health. These shoes are not waterproof, and will sometimes slip on mud,wet leaves, wet rock, as the sole compound is fairly hard ( for wearability ), these are ultimately a good weather shoe.

I have been buying Merrel Moab Gortex mid rise, and Moab low rise (non Gortex) trainers since 1993. Previously it has always been necessary to order a half to full size larger than ones regular street shoe size. Using this logic for my current purchase of Moab low rise (non Gortex) trainers, I ordered a pair half a size larger than my regular street shoe size and they are now slightly too large. I will keep them as they are fine for use with thicker hiking socks. Other wise a good stable dry day hiking trainer. Whats needed is for a statement from Merrel attached with each style that they do or do not correspond to the defecto expectation for the labeled size and where necessary the correction to apply. From my experience if you are size 7, for this style, order size 7.

The shoe has a great quality and excellent cushioning in the tread, but we must bear in mind that it is a wide shoe, unlike other Merrel models, so that everyone who has a thin foot would be better to buy another type of footwear However, having enough width in the area of fastening, where the tongue is, allows you to adjust it, that is why I, despite having a fine foot, in the end I have decided to keep it, although I have been about to return it. We'll see when you really try them on the mountain. It would be very important that the manufacturers, together with the other specifications, indicate in each model the type of last that it has, if it is wide, medium or narrow and this would help us to choose the shoe better and avoid many returns. regards

I'll start by saying the only reason that I've not given these boots a 5 star rating is that they are extremely slippy when stepping on metal manhole covers, so be very aware. Otherwise they are the most comfortable walking boots I've ever bought, in fact these are my second pair, the previous pair have been worn every single day for well over two years and are finally showing signs of advanced wear. It might seem like a small point but worth a mention is that the laces have lasted very well and show no signs of breaking and will be kept when I finally consign the old pair to the recycling bin.Another thing to add is that it's worth going for a half size bigger than normal as they can be quitesnug.

I have had Merrell walking shoes before so I was interested to see how the these performed. (Had the Yokota trail before). I am normally a size 9, however I always need half a size up. (9.5)First impressions. They are bulkier ( wider and longer and the sole is thicker..than what I had before), however they are light and very comfortable even after walking 10 miles+. As mentioned the sole is quite thick so not very flexible on rocks but good enough. They will need some waterproofing. If you want waterproof versions go for the MOAB 2GTX as they have GoretexI use these mainly for walking on tracks, some hill climbing and walking down to the shops.Overall they are good comfortable hiking shoes

These are well made and very comfortable. I normally wear a UK size 12 shoe and following other reviews, that suggested that these are on the small side, ordered a UK size 12.5. This was a good move as they fit just right - I probably could have even gone up a full size, but they are snug, not uncomfortable and are not rubbing in any areas. They look smart, for a casual shoe, and are of good quality. They are not too warm (as I have experienced with other shoes of this type which are waterproof) and when worn recently in 40C heat were still comfortable being worn all day. An excellent product - I'll buy Merrell again rather than going for a cheaper shoe only to regret it.

Excellent walking shoe for rough surfaces. The model Vent comes without Goretex membrane, which is good for dry and warm weather application, also dries quicker if soaked. It is not for wet, cold or the routes where more ankle support is required. The sizing is marginally on a smaller side, like Salomons. For example, if all your shoes in the last few years were size 11 and occasionally 10.5, then choose 11. This shoe is about 5mm wider in the toe area than Salomons, and is adjustable by tightening the laces. The sole and insole are quite protective and suitable for rocky terrains. A nice bumper partially protects the lateral and medial malleoli.

I have wide feet and always struggled with fitment, so for the past 8 years all I wear is Merrell Moab shoes, except for black leathers when in smart clothes which is a few times a year. I can easily walk 10 miles without any sore feet or blisters and great for hot climates, I walked 105 miles during my last holiday in Florida.A few negatives - insole wears out quicker than the rest of the shoe and not easy to get replacements. Back of the heel part with foam can be damaged is you don't use the tab to pull the shoe on, and tabs have broken on me in the past. But still buy a new pair every year and have 2 pairs used at any one time.
