I bought this shoe as I was looking for something for the Autumn/Winter/Spring months in the UK for dog walking, a bit of hiking and general wear when out with the family.I had a pair of Merrell Chameleon 4 Mid Top’s which fitted perfectly. However, I found the MOAB’s to be ever so slightly small in the toe area (my big toe was pushing on the side, which would have gotten worse if I’d done any kind of walking). My typical size in trainers/sneakers is a UK12 (Under Armour, Nike, Adidas etc) - Having previously bought Merrell’s, I knew to order a UK12.5, so I was disappointed when they felt small. The shoe itself looks and feels extremely well built - Although I didn’t get the “out of the boxcomfort” that I’ve had with other Merrells (it felt much stiffer).NOTE: Merrell advertise the new MOAB 2 with “Premium Suede Leather” - However, for reasons beyond my comprehension, the Gore Tex version of this shoe does NOT have this. It simple has “synthetic leather” - I feel Merrell should advertise this more. The versions which have the “Premium Suede” are the WaterProof (WP) version - Which we don’t seem to get in the UK, and the ventilators (which we do). Finally, for anyone trying to order the right size, I’ve recently purchased numerous pairs of different brands, and this is what I’ve found:Usual Trainer/Sneaker size: UK12Merrell Chameleon 4 GTX: UK12.5 - Perfect Fit - Bought in 2014, still going strong.Merrell MOAB 2 GTX: UK12.5 - Big toe on right shoe pushing against side - Toe box seems narrower than Chameleon range), but the length was OK - UK13 would be too long. The North Face Hedgehog Fastback GTX: UK12 - Almost an identical fit to the Merrell MOAB 2 UK12.5 - I had the same issue with the big toe pushing against the side - Length was fine. The North Face Hedgehog Fastback GTX: UK13 - Too long, even with insoles (superfeet on top of volume reducers). Other than that, very comfortable. I had a thumb and a half of space at the end of my shoe, which would have caused issues in the long run. If they did a UK12.5, I feel it would almost be perfect.Merrell Chameleon Wrap Slam: UK12.5 - This is the pair that I’ve settled on. Whilst they aren’t waterproof, they are supremely comfortable, and offer a nice snug fit. Plenty of toe room, and well designed. The MOAB’s are being sent back, so I can’t comment on their durability. But they do look well put together (better than the Wrap Slams, and the standard insole is significantly better! Conclusion:I've given the MOAB 2's 4 stars due to it's well built construction, and overall looks.I've dropped it 1 star as it doesn't fit the same as another Merrell UK12.5, and the fact the Gore Tex version does NOT have the "premium suede" of the other versions. If you’d like to ask any questions, feel free!

I am a long time 'Merrell fan' that always chooses Merrell's that have the vibram soul, as historically it's the soul in footwear that usually lets me down.Size wise, I know this fits me, as I tried it on in a shop on the high street. I have a broader foot, so Merrell's have always suited me in this area too.It sounds silly, bit unfortunately, sizing really only is a guide today, as depending on the manufacturer, I take shoes sized from 10 - 12, so, don't make assumptions, unless you specifically know the manufacturer and model of shoe you are purchasing.I purchased these for a recent trip to Iceland, and together with some reasonably thick woollen socks, they were perfect, with the added knowledge that should it rain or snow, the Gore-Tex lining would keep my feet dry. The Gore-Tex wasn't put to the test on this occasion, so that will have to wait for another time on these particular pair of shoes. As with all 'big name' manufacturers these days, one always has to stay alert. Long time fans and die hard users of many well known and often expensive brands are reporting the same thing - deteriorating quality and longevity ! (This usually, but not always, coincidences with a change of manufacturing facility/process or country that goes hand in hand with the deteriorating product?)I tend to purchase several pairs of Merrell's each few years, one pair for more better, casual going out (which lasts me for many years), one pair for the regular walking, every day out and about I do, and believe me, I live in them and wear them to the maximum.(I believe if buying a quality pair of shoes, they should be lasting more than 12 months !)I basically then tend to wear them until they get relegated to garden duties, then the bin.Having experienced both the non Gore-Tex and Gore-Tex version's over the years, I now just stick to the Gore-Tex versions, as it doesn't take much of a shower or very long in some wet grass, for the non Gore-Tex versions to soak through, but that's just my preference and opinion.Until my experience says differently, I am sticking with Merrell's.I hope this review has been of some help?

Bought these for long distance walking and general use. Spent a lot of time reading reviews and trying on shoes in the same category. I have wide feet so these were easily the most comfortable. I'm a size 9 and found them to be true to size. The padding around the ankle is definitely a lot better than any other shoe I tried. Build quality is also superior to most other shoes however the heel cup is very roomy and requires the laces to be pulled very tight to prevent heel rub on the stiching line inside the heel cup which left me with a lot of tension over the top of my foot. Merrell claim "out of the box comfort" which is true,I walked 7 miles the first time I wore them but they do still require a bit of time to soften up also the footbed in my opinion is very rough and created a lot of hot spots in various areas of the shoe. The addition of superfeet insoles has elimiated the hot spots and also tightend up the heel cup a little. After a fair breaking in period the toe box has softened to the point that a lot of it has started rubbing across the top of my toes not helped by the fact the goretex lining is very loose around this area. There appears to be plenty of traction although I've only really worn them on decent surfaced paths. All in a pretty decent pair of shoes but not 100% the comfort I expected.

I bought these to replace a similar pair of Merrell walking shoes that finally gave up the ghost after 18 months of heavy usage. My first impressions after a week are very positive. They look great, fit my size 10 feet perfectly and offer cushioned support that is firm and reassuring rather than flimsy or spongy. I do a lot of urban walking and occasional countryside walks - I average around 250km a month - so I need a pair of shoes that look good in town but are water-resistant and will provide grip and support over slightly rough ground on hills and in woodland. My one long-term concern would be about wear and tear. My previous Merrells suffered from ripping around the top of the collar over my instep on both feet within 3-4 months. While that didn't affect the performance of the shoes, it was annoying to see them damaged so easily so quickly. Time will tell if I have a similar problem withthis pair, but that's very much in the future. For now it's so far, so good. The shoes are doing exactly what I wanted them to do, and for a very reasonable mid-range price.

I have bought several pais of Merrell shows, so I know they fit, provided I order a full size larger than I normally take — be aware of that when ordering.I need to remove the insoles supplied and replace them with customised orthotic insoles, so these are fine for me. However, I tried them on first with the integral insoles, and found that there are uncomfortable ridges where the insoles don’t fit smoothly. I don’t think it would be possible to smooth them out. Were it not for my special circumstances, I would have had to send these back.I can hardly attest to the durability of shoes I haven’t worn yet, but on past form I expect to get many miles walking out of these.Previous pairs have stayed waterproof for some time, but that doesn’t last for ever.

Already had a few pairs of casual shoes from Merrell. Recently I was looking for decent waterproof walking shoes. Unfortunately, there are no dealers in the area so therefore ordered via trekkinn Moab 2 GTX (goretex = waterproof) via the internet. Shoe had good reviews elsewhere so it had to be good. Trekkinn web shop is unfortunately not yet well known in NL. Still ordered and paid with Paypal (because of buyer protection) I immediately ordered 2 sizes so I could keep the best fit. The other pair after passes sent back via the Trekkinn return service. The return service unfortunately costs 9.95 euros. But you can reclaim the return costs via Paypal. Point of improvement: offer free return service.Anno 2019 the standard and therefore very desirable.

I used to have a pair of MOAB boots and they were great. Yet, after years of brutal use they are worn out (still usable though). So I decided to get a new pair that comes with Goretex membrane and Vibram sole. There are other kinds of fabrics/soles made by Merrell, but I highly recommend getting this combo for MOAB if you are looking for something both durable and breathable for your light summer day hikes.Speaking of the seller LY Berditchev Co... they are superb! My order arrived on time, packaging and the boots were all great. However, I found a small scratch on the synthetic leather part of the shoes and as soon as I emailed the seller directly, they generously offered even more discount on this already discounted pair of legendary boots.

Bought these for a trip to Yellowstone Montana USA. Pleasantly surprised by how well they fit and the grip they had to keep me on the trails instead of slipping or sliding. These shoes are usually able to compliment most fits of clothing. The weight of the shoe is also accommodating for a shoe designed to help give you ankle support for when traction matters most. All in all a great shoe for a decent price. I wear these every week and with proper weekly care they have held up well in the last few months. The shoe does its job and keeps traction on gravel or otherwise more slick surfaces, its comfortable, and the style can be combined with an everyday fit if you choose to use it as an everyday shoe.

This is my umpty-teenth pair of these shoes (and their previous generation). Unlike some reviewers they've never split or leaked on me, they're a good fit for me and they keep my feet dry in all but standing-in-river-over-the-ankle situations. Yes, walking through long wet grass can result in a certain amount of dampness but they're not mid-calf boots so I expect that.My only issue - and it's a small one - is that some surfaces such as slate paving and polished concrete floors can be very slippery to walk on if wet but given that the grip of the sole in the dry is excellent, that's a reasonable compromise.Very happy with them, will no doubt buy again in a year or so when I wear the sole out again!

I have one foot that's a 12 and one that's a 12 and a half and these fit well. When you first put them on they feel a little tight, but they relaxed very quickly and are a really good and comfortable fit. Given they fit my bigger foot, I suspect they run a little large for size but if you're going to be wearing thick socks with them then this isn't going to cause a problem. The grips are good and the soles are rigid enough to be good when things get a little rough but flexible enough to be comfortable in any terrain.Waterproofing works well, but it's Gore-tex so this comes as no surprise. I've been wearing them for about a week and I've not had any problems or blisters.

I tried this pair via amazon wardrobe and they were a good fit for me.I am not a big fan of the look/styling  of this pair  at all but they are very comfortable.I returned adidas Men's Terrex Ax2 Cp Cross Trainers because they were too narrow and tight across the toe area ( i much preferred the look of these )https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B077K4R5NQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1I also returned another Merrel pair  Merrell Men Moab Adventure Lace Waterproof Hiking Shoes  as they also were too tight across the toes area.despite being size 9.https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01NCMIM5D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought my first pair 3 years ago but have just had to replace them as the sole got punctured, probably after one of many walks along shingle beaches. A friend borrowed my first pair and ended up buying his own as also found them comfortable & waterproof. Only issue I have found is the need to adjust the laces so that the shoe is not tied too tightly over the top of my foot as can cause pain. To date, I have never had a blister in them despite many walks. Used them for overseas travel & low-level day walks abroad as well as in UK. Wore the 2nd pair out the box for 8 mile walk yesterday without issues - would normally "break in" shoes on shorter walks

2.11.2017

These hiking shoes are very comfortable, I can wear them all day and forget they are on my feet, almost as comfortable as trainers. They are sturdy and supportive, the only one downside is that the soles aren't that grippy, in wet weather clambering over wet rocks or wet plastic surfaces the shoes have given way for me quite a few times and caused me to slip and lose balance. If you are considering these for climbing/hiking in predominantly wet weather I would get a different shoe with a more grippy tread pattern, also the heel is flat and does not offer any grip/bite on rocks. Otherwise they are fine for general hiking and everyday walking.

4.1.2021

I've had them now for 9mths and used in all weathers. Very comfortable straight out of the box. Wear all day and forget you're wearing them. Sturdy and supportive. The major downside is the soles don't grip in the wet: as several other reviewers have mentioned clambering over wet rocks, wet plastic surfaces (or even pavement) the shoes simply fail - the can give way without ANY warning, especially on metal surfaces (eg. steps, platforms, turnstiles, etc) - I've taken a serious few tumbles. If you are considering these for climbing/hiking in mainly wet weather I would recommend a different shoe with a better grip/adhesion tread pattern.

3.2.2021

This is the first time I've bought footwear (specially walking shoe/boots) without visiting a shop, but times are not normal at the moment. These Moab 2 in size UK 8.5 are to replace an earlier version that have come to the end of their life, so they should fit OK.It's worth noting that half sizes are available, but not all stockists list them.Having now received them it would appear they are a direct replacement in terms of size and fit, and only feel different because they are a little stiffer at the moment. That will probably change as they are used.If they perform as well as my old, existing pair, I'll be very happy.
