Sizing:This is my third pair of merrell shoes and like all the others I have to order a size larger than usual.I wear size 9 in every other shoe/walking boots but with Merrell I have to wear 10 or they're too tight.I like Merrell because they suit my wide feet. North face boots for example are too slim, even with a 10.Grip:All my merrell shoes/boots seem to have good grip on any surface, including wet stone. These are the same. My hi-tec with vibram sole was occasionally unpredictable and less sticky grip.Weight:With this particular model, they're nice and light, only marginally heavier than my Merrell Moab Mid GTX XCR.Lighter than my Hi-Tec Vlite Altitude Ultra Luxe leather boots.Comfort:Didn't need to wear them in,nice and flexible out the box.I can happily wear these all day, just like a normal pair of shoes and my feet don't get tired.Even with just normal thin socks rather than walking socks. The soles are great on merrells and cushion you really well. Sometimes feels like your feet bounce but in a good way and I guess thats why they don't make them feel tired. However, they do feel a little warm and i'm yet to go for a bit trek with them yet. When I take the boots off they do feel slightly sweaty inside but my feet don't feel too bad or pong!My Hi-Tec vlite boots, which are also leather ,weigh a bit more but my feet don't get warm in them. The soles on the hi-tec are nowhere near as comfy on my feet though.I'm yet to really put these boots through their paces. I'll update this review once I have been out in fully wet conditions.I think they'll be great as a winter boot, and i'll use the Merrell moab mid GTX XCR as a summer boot as they keep my feet really cool.

The Merrell Rule 'one size larger'applies with these.I have wide feet and struggle to find footwear that doesn't cause me a problem by crushing my little toes and causing an Athlete's Foot type problem. It took me years to realise that just applying a little petroleum jelly or Vick's to the high contact areas on my feet prevents a lot of problems so I use the same approach with new shoes. There was noticeable contact with this shoe when my foot bent whilst walking but within a few days they softened and now they don't rub. Walking in the rain probably helped. My feet stayed dry. Not tested in torrential downpours or in truly soggy terrain but did resist water incursion through laces and tongue. There are a lot of quality materials in this shoe. The NuBuck leather uppers look and feel good and I expect several years' wear from them. The soles feel thicker than on previous Merrells and I expect that to be an advantage over rocky ground. They appear to retain heat. I bought these in May 2016 and I am already beginning to think they might be too warm for everyday use during an English summer but in winter they will excel and I am very pleased with them. I may buy another pair of Merrells but with mesh uppers if these prove to be too warm.24th February 2019.I am now looking for another pair of these. They are disintegrating after a lot of heavy use over almost three years. I had my doubts about summer use but they are fine. A little bit off beeswax applied with a rag keeps them looking good and the water out.

I would love to have given these boots a five star review, as they ticked a lot of boxes. They fit as expected (which is half size above my usual), they look very smart and they are very comfortable from first wear. If I didn't need the waterproofing, they were a definite keeper! The boots are comfortable to wear when walking, they are toasty warm without being too hot. Boots can be uncomfortable around the ankle bone area, these were not, they have a nice comfortable 'wrap' while giving good grip in slimy conditions.Where they let me down is that I found them to be water resistant (splash resistant), rather than waterproof. The real test for me is wet grass, as I need boots for coaching on grass during the winter months.Unfortunately these let me down in this regard, as my socks were soaked through after a one hour session in drizzle and wet grass (I was wearing water proof golf pants as well). A Merrell rep I spoke to suggested that occasionally the waterproof membrane can be compromised and that I should return them, which I reluctantly did. After all, my sole reason for purchase was waterproofing. Excellent returns from Amazon as usual. All in all, a great walking boot if you get a pair that pass the waterproof challenge - it looks that most pairs do judging by reviews. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this brand generally speaking, I have several other pairs that have served me really well.

I'm going to be doing some major traveling in all kind of conditions, mostly warmer/tropical, with lots of walking, hiking, and likely encountering wet seasons. I wanted a boot that didn't look like a hiking boot that could take the place of sneakers/hiking shoes and going out/casual shoes/boots. These and a pair of Sorley boots were the only ones I could find that come close. These are pretty sharp looking, super comfortable, incredibly lightweight, and the waterproofing doesn't seem to stifle your feet. These come in both mid and low cut. I opted for the mids for extra ankle support plus I find them easier to deal with when wearing long pants.Great support and you can take out the insole to put in your own if you want or it wears out and the rest of the boots are still in solid shape.I will be more fully testing these out next month doing some more substantial hiking, but I've already worn these for two full days generally walking around and these boots are super comfortable. You'll likely need to go up a half size. I wear between a 9.5-10 and a 10 in these fit great. I tried on several pairs of boots in Vasque, other Merrells, and a couple other brands. Most of the Merrells fit nicely but I didn't like the look. These were by far the nicest looking, most comfortable, and best value that I found for the criteria/conditions I was looking for.

I bought these to wear for my trip to the Berlin Christmas markets. Oiled leather, so they should be waterproof. I take a size 8 UK and as with most Merrell shoes, I was recommended to select a size larger. The boots are very flat and I think that someone with a high instep would struggle to be comfortable in them. I have found that they rub on the top of my little toes on both feet but I am hoping that this will cease as I wear them in. I normally wear Sorbothane insoles to relieve my Plantar Fasciitis but, due to their thickness, I have been unable to fit them in these boots. A nice boot for general winter use but I do wish Merrell would sort out their sizing.Update 21/4/2017.I've been using these boots for short walks over Winter and they have kept my feet warm and dry even when walking at the water's edge on the beach. However, with the warmer weather, I find that even on a short walk of 5 miles or so, my feet and socks are soaked in perspiration. The boots seem impermeable and no moisture is able to escape from inside the boot. Wearing them all day, every day would probably cause trench foot. Originally, I gave these boots 4 stars but due to problems of breaking them in and now the breathability problem, I would rescore them at a maximum of 2.5 stars.

I purchased my second pair of Merrell boots last weekend for a trip north into cold weather. I wanted a pair of versatile black boots that I could wear outside, inside, or into the office. I hate packing an extra pair of shoes, especially when traveling during winter months when luggage space is filled by cold weather clothing. (I thought they looked a little too rugged for the office, but I polished them and wore them anyway. Got no strange looks or double-takes.)I was a little worried about wearing them for a trip right out of the box, but just like my other pair of Merrell boots, they felt great without having to break them in. I describe them as feeling like "pillows on your feet." I didn't have any rainwater or snow seep through the boots, and they kept my feet quite warm. (My other pair of Merrell boots are Moab Waterproofs that I've owned for several years, and I absolutely love them too.)I have absolutely no complaints. They fit me perfectly. I wore them all week long everywhere I went. I own Red Wing and Vasque hiking boots. I've also owned Timberland, Rockport, and other similar brands. They don't even come close to the comfort and fit of Merrell.

These are great boots, and I would buy them again and again. My only complaint is that the lace hooks occasionally catch my pants hem when I take off the boots. So far I haven't ripped my pants there, but I think a rounder hook, or one set at a slightly different angle, might present less danger to my pants hem.I am flat-footed and normally wear 9.5 XW Clarks unstructured shoes. I needed something for the winter and got these Merrell Moab Rover boots in 10.5 2E, which are roomy enough for medium-weight socks. They do seem to run slightly small. (I also tried 11 2E, but that was too big.) My key requirements were: waterproof (for accidental steps into slushy puddles)and good traction on icy NYC sidewalks; and this boot carried me to daycare and work through occasionally unplown sidewalks with confidence. It also looks great.I'm glad I went for the Vibram sole: after four months, I see very little wear. (By contrast, a pair of non-Vibram [LL] Bean Boots I bought and returned was slippery in the rain and showed huge wear after only a few hours.) This model's leather is also a much better barrier to water than the leather+mesh found on the

I have now had these shoes for a few months, so have taken them round the block. The upshot is that I really like them. They are my go-to shoes for hours spent on my feet, whether on grass or street.I'm normally a 7.5, so I bought an 8.5 as reviews had suggested buying big. For a little while after I first bought them I was seriously worried I should have gone right up to 9, but with a little adventure and breaking them in 8.5 suits me fine. The only thing than detracts from a five star rating is in how waterproof they are. They really don't breathe at all - wet socks and wet feet. I would not rate these as 12-hour shoes. Probably six hour. If you're planning to use them for hiking or work,it's almost worth taking driving shoes with you so you have something to change into to cut off a couple of hours of using these.Build quality, comfort and grip seem fine. Would I buy again? No. I'd buy the same style and shape but in a breathable material. I'll get my use out of these, and as I'm not planning on using these day in and day out, I can live with that.

As a self confessed fan of Merrell footwear I was not disappointed with my new Moab Rovers. However, as mentioned regularly by othe buyers, it is important to order a full UK size larger than normal shoe size to ensure a proper fit.Although I haven't been able to check on waterproofing yet, the standard of finish is first class. The nubuck leather uppers are supple enough to feel like a glove and the quality of stitching promises plenty of hard wearing. They are also extremely light, making them a pleasure to walk in. Another advantage, albeit a simple one, is the single hook arrangement for the laces: two hooks can be tricky, especially with frozen fingers! So far the weather has been fine, which could be why my feet felt a little warm - I purposely wore mid-weight socks, but as with truly waterproof boots, they might not be able to 'breathe' quite as well. Nevertheless it bodes well for a cold winter on Dartmoor. All in all this is a first class product that I would recommend to anyone looking for a decent lightweight walking boot.

I have had these waking boots for just over 3 months. They were bought to replace an old and worn pair of Merrell walking shoes. These boots were immediately comfortable to wear and needed hardly any breaking in. As with Merrell's generally it is always good to get a half size bigger than you normally wear. The boots are light weight and fully waterproof - thoroughly tested last weekend while rescuing our foolish dog from an icy pond! Also good at keeping your feet toasty warm in frosty (and icy wet) conditions but in my case a little too hot in warmer weather. The boots offer plenty of ankle support on rough ground and a good grip and sole support in most hill walking conditions. The only time I have found them lacking grip is when walking over a wet metal manhole cover or similar which can be slippy. My last pair of Merrell's lasted for 2.5 years of almost daily use in city and country conditions and still have a bit of life left in them so I'm expecting these boots to be just as good.

Without reading the reviews they would have been too small. I have not used them yet but very impressed with the configuration of the Vibram sole. I bought them as a backup to my Zamberlan boots so they have a big act to follow. They will get tested in the mountains over the next few months. I have two pairs now--I am still very impressed with the Vibram sole. This time I purchased a size 1/2 a size bigger so I could use two pairs of socks mainly for winter use. They are a very lightweight boot so anybody expecting a lifetime use I think will be very disappointed. But in any case the extreme use I put them under(scrambling about on mountains with 30 kilos of camera equipment),make it unlikely they will last much longer than 3-4 years. If people want to do as I have done, purchase two pairs, one for winter and one for summer I suggest they purchase,(for summer use) 1/2 a size bigger than your normal size and a 1 size bigger for winter use.

I'm really pleased with these. They're rugged without being too heavy for everyday wear and warm without being unwearable indoors. The styling avoids being either overly flashy or boring and hits a sweet spot for me where they can be worn in most casual situations. One thing to note is that I did have to send my first pair back to change for a larger size. I bought half a size up to allow for thick socks but that turned out to be not enough and I had to go a full size over my usual fitting. The upsized replacements were instantly comfortable with no breaking in required. I went out on a five mile walk on day one and didn't have even the slightest hot spot.I've been wearing them regularly for about three months now and they seem to be holding up well although I haven't been doing any serious hiking with them in that time.

I had bought the Moab Rover shoe and used the fit chart/size chart suggestion and found that the shoe was a bit oversized in the toe area. When I went down on the width I found that these fit just right. I have walked around a few muddy/wet job sites and these have held up well and waterproof so I am pretty happy with that. They felt great on the first wear and didn't feel like they needed any "break in" time, they felt good with no slippage, no tight feeling or loose feeling. Like I said in my Merrell shoe review that I would be purchasing again I wasn't lying. Good ankle support and a cushioned foot and heel make for happy feet not angry feet. Pay attention to the size though because like I said, when I trusted the sizing chart the shoes felt a bit big, not in the length but in the width.

I ordered my actual size for these Merrell High Rise walking boots and they fit me perfectly, and straight out of the box they are very comfortable. I live in Devon and so moving to a more flexible boot was definitely a good move, these are lighter and more 'bouncy' than my Scarpa's of old, that finally died after some five years use. Couple of things to think about, I bought some 5mm/160mm laces as the ones provided seem small for the shape of the boot, maybe a personal thing. The other suggestion is get some HS12 Scarpa Silicone cream on the boots as soon as you can, particularly on the edges of the sole and over the toe area. This cream is amazing stuff, goes on easy, just rub in with a finger, and is absorbed in seconds with no gunky residue. Great boots and they are used every day.

I knew I wasn't going to wear these on a 5 mile day hike on day one, but after trying them on, I thought I might have to wait a lot longer. The high arch is set back further towards the hell than I expected and gave me some pause - I wondered if these would cause my foot to ache with prolonged wear. However, after a day or two, they conformed to my foot rather well. I've been wearing them for a week now, and have had no issues. The grip is good on wet pavement, although I haven't tried them on the trail yet. They look and feel great, as I expected - plenty of room in the toe box, and good fit overall despite my concerns over the arch. Other Merrell shoes I have owned have been of similar quality and overall fit, which is why I keep coming back for more.
