Good all-round boot. I've now done quite a few multi-day walks (15-25 miles per day), in different weather conditions and in different terrains, and I don't think you'll do any better at this price point if you're looking for a decent pair of synthetic material boots but there are some niggles, so I'll start with the relative 'cons':1. Only the last/top lace fixing is a metal hoop - I always tighten the boot, with heel to the very back, on the second to top fixing so that the foot is held firmly in place (particularly important when walking down hills/mountains). Obviously I can still do this but I'm not sure how much longevity the material hoop will have. Also,I have benefitted in the past from re-passing the laces through the second to last fixing, after the top fixing, before the final tie to add further stability. This isn't really practically possible with these boots.2. It may have something to do with the US size conversion but, as others have said, the sizes are much smaller than stated - YOU NEED TO ORDER AT LEAST ONE SIZE LARGER THAN YOUR CASUAL SHOE SIZE - in fact, taking foot swell and the 'thumb length space' rule into account you may even need a size and a half larger. I'm a standard 10 for casual and 10.5 for sports/running and the 11 in these boots is just about OK even with thin socks. The 'pros':1. They are waterproof - I've spent many hours in wet conditions where the boot has been constantly exposed and my feet have always remained completely dry.2. Very comfortable / wide fit - probably the most comfortable boot I've worn. I've always been surprised by how few walking boot makers make 'wide-fit' boots - my feet aren't that wide but I have to completely rule quite a number of boot makers (i.e. their entire range!) because they stick to a specific foot template which will rub and cause me blisters, especially at the toes. Why? I'm not an expert but who has feet that get narrower towards the toes?3. Good grip - these are vibram soles which have some reputation for being useless/dangerous on wet rock; I have found that this isn't the case with these. The sole is also a very good compromise/mid-point between flexible (for general 'flat' walks) and inflexbile (rough surface/mountain walks).I hope this helps.

I bought these for a hiking trip, but when my go-to sneakers got destroyed last minute, I grabbed these out of desperation before leaving on vacation. I didn't really have much of a chance to break them in before wearing them for 6 days straight at a family vacation to Disney World. We probably walked at least several miles a day going from one side of the park to the other multiple times trying to catch whatever ride had the least wait times. The boots broke in easily and were immediately comfortable. Despite the waterproof construction, it allowed moisture to escape and my feet were never sweaty despite spending 12 hrs standing and walking in the Florida sun. Good cushioning and cradled my feet well.Despite being new out of the box with minimal break in period, I didn't have any blistering or any hot spots.I have moderately wider feet than the norm and prefer to wear New Balance and Brooks sneakers as they are more roomy at the toe box. These boots were just as roomy and comfortable as my sneakers, although probably just a hair tighter at the toes. A few weeks ago I wore them on a legit 5 mile hike and they did well on moderate trails with rocks and inclines. Good ankle support despite being mid high boots, good grip on rocks and loose dirt, and darn good on comfort. The boots wrap around your feet well and there were no loose spots or tight spots. Just very well made boots. There wasn't a stream or anything to test the waterproof factor, so can't comment on that.

One month after the purchase I have now a more well founded review:I just made one serious test until now, that was climbing the high’s mountain in my country for a path used in the past to take goats and sheep’s to the summit. Was in middle of April so I caught several environments and different terrains. Hard vegetation with point branches, rocks, mud and finally, snow in the summit. The boots are fairly robust. Good ankle support and I didn't have to breaking them and they performed well. Just use them a couple of times to go to work just to test if they could be a problem or not.Like others have said, the sizes are much smaller than stated. But I took that info in consideration after buying them,so I went one number up and they are just perfect. The boots tends to hurt the middle fingers end. That was never happen to me so I must consider a ‘con’ for the boot. The Gore-Tex gives the boots a very helpful breathing what was very helpful due to hot temperature in the two first sections of the trail. 4,5* here.In the snow the boot prove to be waterproof. Some snow did get in through the upper part because I ‘didn’t use gaiters but after squeeze my socks a couple of times and then change them in the end for a dry pair socks, my feet got dry and warm very fast. 5* here.As a resume they look ok but need more time to evaluate if they worth the 120€ or not.

After years of abuse my old pair finally wore out. They had taken me over mountains, forests, snow, ice etc etc and served me well despite them only being a cheap brand and lasted years more than expected. Now being in the position to buy better quality makes I decided that I would go for these after a lot of research.Due to the lock down I was a little nervous about paying a lot of money for some boots without even trying them on. I read another review which mentioned that when buying boots from this manufacturer they always go half a size up due to them being slightly smaller than the advertised size. So with the advice taken I took the plunge (plus they were heavily discounted which helped with the decision making somewhat).Turns out it was good advice as they fit like a glove. Also comfortable straight out of the box though I did get a sore ankle for a couple days after descending at a severe angle on one of our walks. That aside no more problems so far and I would expect a lot worse from new boots usually. They remain comfortable so far and my feet have remained dry even in long wet wheat fields. Grips are immense on the bottom as well and have so far gripped well on slippy muddy banks and scrambles

Ordered these a size larger than the Moab 2s they replaced, because my feet seem to be growing... again. Put them into my shoe rotation about a month before going to Hawaii, so they were broken in. Wore them periodically in Hawaii, kicking around town and crawling across lava to see one thing or another, and they were great. Bought them specifically for the trek up Diamond Head, and they were very good, but not great. Ankle support was very good on the uneven surfaces, which probably saved me a sprained ankle on the way down. Vibram soles gripped well on the dry, worn-smooth lava. But they were disappointing when morning dew made the path a little "greasy" during my descent. Not sure why...Vibram soles on my old Vasques were fine 2 years ago. Seriously, the Merrell soles were like ice if there was any dew at all on the trail. So, minus 1 star for poor performance on smooth, dew-covered lava trails. Maybe a bit specific, but it's precisely what this pair of boots were bought to tackle. Oh, and there's a weird seam in the footbed that runs at a diagonal near my heel, but I'm getting used to it.

I was a bit skeptical about buying these boots as I wear mainly barefoot type casual, hiking shoes and sandals, so I'm used to very lightweight foot gear with zero drop and minimal sole thickness. From past experiences I have had bad luck with Merrell shoe products. Much to my surprise and delight these boots are awesome. I may be a bit premature as I have only wore them once but I put them thru a rigorous test. I hiked 6.5 miles on very rocky and mountainous terrain (Bootleg Canyon in Boulder City, NV). I didn't baby them as I hiked at a high speed and purposely hit jagged rocks to feel if there was any discomfort. I also ran part of the way (approximately 1.5 miles).I did the distance in just under two hours (I'm 70 years of age) with an elevation gain of over 1600 ft.Bottom line, even though I wore myself out:), my feet felt no pain or discomfort and were not tired. And even though they are considered lightweight, they are much heavier then my other barefoot shoes, but I didn't even notice them on the trail. For now I give them an A+ for comfort, support, traction and looks.

This might help someone, im size 8uk in safety shoes , good slackish fit.size 9uk in a new balance 574 trainer wearing a thin sock., fits like a glove. Most roomy dress shoes a size 8uk, comfortable fit.I read up on these merrell moab mid boots to try and determine fit. Most reviews veer towards being slightly small.i ordered the size 9, wearing with a bridgedale trekker mid weight sock. I thought initially they were slightly roomy but after 3 or 4, 5 mile walks they actually fit like a glove, didnt slacken off and get roomier but actually moulded to feet and tightened up slightly. with a thin sock id say theyd be very slightly slack.to sum up id say the uk size 9 is nearer a true uk 8.5,they are a fairly wide fit, roomy toebox. If you wear new balance 574 trainers and are intending wearing a thick sock take same size as trainers. if wearing a thin sock take a half size less than your trainers and you will get perfect fit. only helps if you you know your size in new balance 574 but they are a very common trainer so will help somebody.

Being a size 14, I hate having to shop for hiking boots as it always has to be done online where I can't test them. My outgoing boots were getting tired although have served me well (Columbia's). I was tempted to stick with the same make but the reviews were a bit hit and miss. I settled on these Merrell's and have to say I am mightily impressed.I purchased these to go to Iceland for an 8 day tour. Because of the size of my footwear, I wore these on the way to the airport and all of the first day in Iceland. The temperature was -7 with the windchill but they kept my feet warm. They are also tough and endured some interesting terrain, from lava fields to thick ice and snow.3rd day in and there were huge rainstorms, again, these kept my feet waterproof.I also didn't have to wear two pairs of socks and worked well with my Bridgedale's and Under Armours. The grip was fantastic and the weight is superb.I couldn't fault them, really impressed and have come back to England looking as good as when I bought them.

I’m usually an 8 to 8.5, most reviews say true to size but I ordered an 8 a d with a good pair of socks they were very snug. I then ordered an 8.5 and they are a much nicer fit.Really comfortable with no rubbing at all (and new shoes/trainers usually run my feet somewhere).Nice and warm and although I haven’t worn them in really bad weather they have been dry and comfortable. They have a really good grippy sole, I hope it lasts as walking shows I’ve owned previously with a good grip on the sole have worn out fairly quickly. My only small negative is the laces could do with being a few inches longer to get a decent double knot in them.Overall a really good, sturdy, walking boot.Size wise I’d go up half a size.Good thing on Amazon now is the Amazon Wardrobe so you can order both sizes to try and send the ones back that don’t fit so well.To be honest I did manage to find these a fair bit cheaper on another website but when I needed to order the half size larger only Amazon had the size in stock.

Like me I’m sure your doing lots of research for a new shoe so here’s my experience of this pair.I bought these with the aim of hiking up snowdon, I’m yet to go but so far my experience has given me complete confidence.Fit: I have a wide foot and usally wear a uk7.5. Ordered an 8 as I wear with thick hiking socks and fits fine. Toe box is spacious and there is very good arch support. The heal is cupped well and does not lift, even in mud.Waterproof: yes. Absolutely. Can not fault the goretex lining. The true test for waterproof shoes is walking acros a Dewey field or in long grass after rain. The uppers did not allow any moisture in over several hours.Performance: I took these on a trip to Iceland where I was out in minus 10 for several hours in snow and ice.Did not get cold toes once in standard hiking socks. I also found the vibram sole grippy in the ice and stable in snow.Verdict: I have no doubt these will last ages and I’m completely confident taking them up snowdon.Hope this is useful

I bought these boots after trying them at a local dealer which was selling them over €55 more than the price I got for them on amazon. Compared to a few other boots I’ve tried, these were by far the most comfortable, quite light and felt like they didn’t even need to be broken in. From when this pair of boots arrived until posting this review they probably have about 40-50 hrs of wear in rough terrain now, all of which I’ve done wearing medium thick wool socks. Over the first few hours of wear they did become slightly softer and even more comfortable as they broke in. So far they have impressed and exceeded my expectations, kept my feet bone dry in puddles up to the bottom of my ankle and they have good ankle support. There were a couple days in which I wore these for over 10 hours straight and I’ve had ZERO rubbing/pain/blisters. Highly recommended. Now I’ll see how long they will last. The only wear I see so far is the Merrel logo rubbing off the insole, not surprised with that.

**update after 15 months **They are looking pretty worn now, but have lasted really well and are still comfy, warm and waterproof. The sole is starting to come away from the uppers in a few places, and they don’t grip so good in the mud.But the have lasted way, way, better than previous pairs of boots & still wish I’d gone a half size up***update after 9 months***Have worn really well, averaging 7k steps a day for 9 months covering the day in office & walking / jogging with the dog on road & local hillsHeels are starting to show wear now. But they have done much better than my last few boots/trainersDefinitely go at least half size up*** original post***Comfy right from the off, but too small.Loads of support and a bouncy step. They were tight fitting, and haven't loosened up with wear. Would be too tight with walking socks. Should have gone 1/2 size bigger than normalLook like black trainers rather than shouting TACTICAL WALKING BOOTS or somesuch which is good

I'm a size 8.5 with wide feet so I usually go for a 9 but I elected to go for a 9.5 after reading other reviews. After an unsuccessful walk (bashed toes) I bought a second, size 10 pair. My toes were still getting clobbered but a combination of tying the laces very tight, adding gel insoles, cutting my nails back to the skin and switching from a winter sock to a light hiking sock with a liner sock, and I managed the 24 mile 'Yorkshire 3 Peaks' on their second outing with no blisters or no impact on my toes. I encountered mud and boggy land any my feet stayed dry. Not the best ankle support and definitely won't last as long as tough leather boots but no breaking in required.Just wish you could buy your normal size and let the manufacturer worry about the implications of their use, e.g. allowing for thicker socks and toe room; don't get all of this 'it's an Italian make so you need a larger size'. A 9.5 should be a 9.5.

After 10+ years of wearing a different make I decided to see what else was around for the £80 mark, read the reviews on these and thought I’d give them a try....First impressions out of the box was good, seemed well made and looked good, trying them on I found that they were a little ‘snug’ I normally wear a UK 9.5, or 10 with thick socks, this normally feels a little loose but the 10 in these is equivalent to a 9.5 I would say, I was aware of this as other reviews have said similar but I felt an 11 would be too loose fitting.Wearing them around the house for an hour with no issues I decided to keep them and cut the label off.I went out for a 4 mile walk on tarmac/unmade country roads for around an hour and a half and no issues at all,no ‘breaking-in’ needed as they were comfortable straight out of the box, I think Merrell are going to be my new ‘go-to’ brand! 5*

This is my second pair of these boots, the first having been walked around the north of England for more than 1,500 miles. Good? no, excellent boots for sure! Had to buy from Amazon as all of the high street retailers don't stock half sizes which is a shame because it is always a good idea to try such important items before you buy. If you are considering buying these, I found that a half size larger was good for me, simply because I had a tiny bit of rubbing on my big toe! Not all the time, but it did restrict the type of socks I prefer to wear.I would recommend unreservedly the Merrell Moab, in fact any Merrell boot or shoe is cool. I am a 63 year old Nordic Walker and these boots are awesome, comfortable, firm, offer great support and look fabulous with whatever clothes you choose to wear. Merrell do an excellent range for footwear for ladies too!
