Having heard a lot about Merrell shoes in the past I decided to give these a go, and I was highly impressed! To preface this a little, I need to explain that I walk 'a lot' to the point where I usually wear 2-3 pairs of shoes a year down to the point of no tread or they perish internally before then. For the last few years I have gone with vibram soled shoes and they seem to have lasted longer than some other types of soles, however I still noticed that some especially in cheaper shoes wore out faster.I also have quite wide feet, and sometimes find that although the length of other shoes may be perfect my feet really bulge out the sides which can cause discomfort from rubbing, and also cause them to wear through quite fast. Being an ethical Vegan I also sometimes struggle as a lot of outdoor walking shoes still use leather for its durability. After doing some research I settled on trying these, and despite being a bit pricier than my average pair I took the plunge, and it paid off.FittingThese shoes fit me absolutely perfectly, when I first put them on I thought that they were too big, however upon reflection they are actually perfect I am just used to other shoes being initially constrictive and then opening out over time. There was plenty of room at the toe so that my foot wouldn't slide but there was no toes bashing into the ends. Width wise they were great, as mentioned I have wide feet, not excessively so but enough so that some regular shoes are just too tight. The toe box widens out a bit more which is great, and gives you toes chance to spread and avoid the dreading nail cuts from where toes press into others and the nails can cut into them.StyleI really like the look of these shoes, and they look even better in person. I will have to say that in person they do look bulkier/wider than in the pictures so if you are looking for a very low profile shoe these aren't for you, however I like the slightly more rugged aesthetic.FunctionSo far I have walked about 100+ miles in them and the soles are only showing minor wear and importantly 'even' wear. Sometimes some shoes have multiple sections of the sole with different materials/densities which can lead to uneven wear, however these seem to wear very evenly indeed. The laces are good and sturdy and the lace holders hold them securely in place while still not overly gripping the lace making the shoes hard to loosen up to get on or off.The tongue is a decent length and width to ensure comfort and no laces/holders or other parts digging into the top of your foot. The insoles seem pretty decent as well, and although I tend to overpronate in these shoes I have not noticed it occurring to a major degree and so have not had to put in my custom insoles as of yet.I have taken them out in a few medium to heavy showers now, and have had no water get in except from running down the trouser leg and in around my ankle, and so they perform this function very well also.Another point which can sometimes be forgotten is that due to the rigid texture and coating of the shoes they are actually pretty easy to wipe clean after getting covered in mud or dirt. All in all I am very impressed, and would definitely look into buying the same shoes next time or at least another Merrell product.

I tried a few pairs of Merrell walking shoes and once I worked out , as many have, that you need a size up with Merrell, these are/were my perfect daily shoe.My feet:- I have extremely wide feet. (When I had my feet measured at the Altberg factory in Yorkshire they were off the scale!)- One foot is messed up from an Achilles tendon injury five years ago and many shoes and boots irritate the outside of one heel. These are soft/low cut enough there that they work nicely - like slippers.- I have high arches.- I have hammer toes from years in flip flops. These are not waterproof and are not intended for high level mountaineering, for which I wear my proper Scarpa boots, but for low level bimbling and as what you might call "approach shoes" they are brilliant.Given the daily wear they've had in over 2 years, they hardly show it.I have one complaint. Why, given their popularity, have Merrell discontinued them? Not since I used to run in Nike Air Pegasus have I found a shoe that fits my wide (and now knackered from running) feet. (Wish I'd bought several pairs at the time!)Can anyone help? Merrell tell me that they are bringing out a Chameleon Wrap 8 for 2020, which is their recommended replacement for these and the more recent Chameleon Wrap 7. I'm wary of the whole neoprene around the ankle thing mentioned as being tight in some reviews. Has anyone replaced these with a more recent alternative? Grateful for a steer.

Was a little sceptical as I had tried these on in a shop before and they had seemed a little small but upon receipt of these they fit perfectly. I am a 12 and have big wide feet, addidas are too thin for my fee,. these were like a glove.Firstly the heel area has alot of room and the back of the shoe is strong and wont sag down after time which is great as this, for me is essential. Metal eyelet at the top so you can pull laces tight with out fear of tearing the material. The arch part of the sole rises up a little but not too much so you are supported nicely with out it feeling like something you get from the NHS to straighten your back out.I especially like the reinforced toe at the end.Its very sturdy and will prevent stubbing of the toes which as we all know can bring the strongest of us to the ground in an instant.Vibram sole speaks for its self grip is fantastic on all surfaces, although on polished floors if they are wet they will squeak but that is a given with rubber soled shoes.Plenty of inner cushioning my foot is encased and feels very comfortable.Isnt waterproof but in my opinion if you want water proof dont buy a shoe buy a boot because the water is just going to leak into the top anyways.Air cushioning in the sole makes for a comfy step but if you step on too many thorns and they pop you are going to have squeaky shoes....not cool.Over all worth the price. Will buy another pair

My second purchase of Chameleon Wrap Slam and I find that if I buy at least one UK whole size larger than my actual size, it's a very comfortable fit. My usual size is uk 7.5 , 43 European. I purchase a Uk size 9 Wrap Slam, that's just right in the non-gortex version. My feet can sweat too much in this particularly well insulated shoe, worse in the gortex ones . I have wide feet and like a generous movement without pinching for my toes and to get some degree of ventilation.I use them for casual outdoor dry, cold weather wear and for cycling in same conditions. I find the grip on soft/muddy ground, slippy rock, gravel and my metal bike pedals to be good.I don't wear them in warmer weather as I find their insulating lining too hot (but great in the winter).Tip- I have put my previous 5year old pair in the washing machine several times with other clothes on a cool synthetic bio wash and that brings them up clean & fresh. If it weren't for the guesstimate sizes that Merrell seem to use, I would give them five stars. I have to apply the same upsizing to my other, three different, Merrell shoes. At least the upsizing is consistently a 9 with all of them. For comparison, all my Ecco shoes are 43 (7.5/8).Summary-Good vibram 'slippy conditions' grip. Warm and comfortable, even with my wider feet but the stated size is too small.

This is my third pair of Merrells Chameleon Wrap Slam shoes - They are comfortable from first wear albeit a little tight for a few weeks - They seem to just about last me for 3 years, (I walk around 10/15miles a week) - I am still using my old pair at the moment although holes are starting to appear on the soles and heels and the fabric has been worn and torn for some time! - Still ultra comfortable though - Biggest thing with Merrells shoes as others have said, is the sizing - You need to add an extra 1.5 to your normal UK size - I bought my first pair from Millets in the High Street and just picked a pair that fitted - My second pair which I bought from Millets online,I ordered a size 9 which they said was a genuine uk size but it wasn't! - Had to return it and re-order a size ten which was still very slightly too small - I couldn't be bothered with going through all the return procedure again, so kept them and they did loosen up a little once broken in.This time from Amazon, I ordered a size 10.5 and they fit perfectly - I don't know how long Merrells will keep the Chameleon shoes in their product line, so I have just ordered a fourth pair for when the new ones wear out! - I wouldn't buy anything else - I have walked all over the UK with them including a several weeks of holidays hiking in the lakeland fells.

I'm on my fourth pair of these, having worn out the soles of the previous three pairs. They are my "go to" summer shoes for low-intensity walking, which are equally at home on easy to moderate trails in the hills as pounding the streets. They are not waterproof - there's no membrane - but they are satisfactorily water resistant if you're caught in moderate rain. You will get wet feet if you find yourself in long wet grass though. I find spraying them with a silicone spray improves the water resistance, but I generally wear them only in dry conditions, deferring to a shoe with a membrane for wet days/conditions. The lack of membrane also means less sweaty feet in hot conditions. The sole pattern is not particularly aggressive or lugged, and is quite smooth (more so as they wear), so they can be slippery on wet rock, and on muddy surfaces. They grip fine in the dry however. They have a conventional lace with no heel lock facility.Downsides? I find the fit slightly on the small side; I'm a 44EU (10UK) and buy a 45EU (10.5UK) which fits fine, but I have one foot slightly larger than the other. I also think Merrell have changed the sole material, since it seems to wear more quickly than I remember.

As others have said, buy a size larger. My regular shoe size (9) was too small with these shoes. Based on trying a size 9 in a shop and it being too small (and a 10 not being in stock), and based on reviews on Amazon saying to buy a size larger, I did, and the size 10 fits me perfectly.I also had to use some carpet tape to stick the foam insole in place as they kept slipping towards the front of the shoe whilst I was being worn. (this is the foam insole that forms the part of the shoe where your foot sits, they are part of the shoe design).I do find my feet get fairly sweaty inside these if I wear them indoors for long periods. They are extremely comfortable, but I have found that the fabric can rub the top of my big toe if I have the laces tied up too tight - it pulls in the fabric at the toe end of the shoe too much. The outer soles swing between having loads of grip, and none at all. They seem to lose grip almost completely on surfaces that are wet and/or have a damp layer of organic material on them. Not all wet/damp surfaces prove slippery in these shoes though, so it's easy to be taken by surprise. I've very nearly slipped over several times whilst wearing these outdoors.

I've been a die-hard wearer of the Merrell Intercept for a good few years now, had numerous pairs (different colours) and can honestly say I've never worn a more comfortable, hard wearing shoe straight out of the box, I was on the verge of purchasing yet another pair until I spotted the Chameleon Wrap on offer here (under £40), at that price along side the rugged look of the shoe tempted me to try a new style of Merrell, and on arrival I was not disappointed, a great looking well built shoe without a doubt, and straight out of the box and on your feet felt like an old worn in pair of ya favourite footwear, comfort from the off must be a speciality of Merrell, like the Intercept, the Chameleon Wrap feel great, after a full day out and about across various terrain, I could not rate these any higher, a great shoe to see you through all kinds of ups and downs, only thing I would highly recommend if you have never wore Merrell branded footwear before is to choose a half size bigger than your normal size, where I'm a UK 9, in a Merrell I would always go a UK 9.5 for that perfect fit.

Following reviews I ordered a size and a half up from usual. This is quite comfortable but spacious enough for thick socks or thick insoles which is ideal, I've put some thick sheepskin insoles in, my feet love me right now! This is very rare. I had a pair of these before, best walking shoes I ever had for touch cobbles and urban walking on hard pavements dog walking. That pair I wore solid for 2 or 3 years and the only reason I had to chuck them was the inner heel lining wore right through so I'm going to reinforce with a suede heel grip this time round I think. Other than that they hardly even showed any signs of wear to uppers or soles. Really sturdy shoes with brilliant arch support and well padded for comfort.I'd like these in boot form if they made them as I have a weak ankle from a severe sprain years ago that still bothers me, but they do fit nicely round the ankle. I also have a wide foot and a high instep which makes shoe shopping really tiresome, but the fit on these is great, flexible, hugely adjustable and great traction. Love it. Thank you!

I am really impressed with this walking shoe and must say they are incredible, another brilliant shoe from Merrell. I have worn them pretty much every day since the end of February and I truly believe that these shoes are the best shoes in it class for the price. They are very comfy and very steady, I have used them for running, walking, mountain biking, flying, gliding, shooting, cross country, mountain climbing (the true use) and just general socializing and you can barley tell, not a scratch or mark anywhere. They have taken so much and stood it perfectly, much better than any other nike, Reebok, Adidas or k swiss trainer to name a few but they are almost like a walking boot in a shoe.I am an 18 year old so naturally they have been on fire, drowned in the lakes, flattened by a car and total abuse but still not a scratch and thanks to the removable inner sole they just get washed and ready to go. BRILLIANT

I've always had problems buying shoes that fit comfortably as I have a very wide fit and high instep for my foot size (UK 9). This was the first shoe in years that literally fitted as if it was made for my foot without me needing to buy oversize to accomodate the width. The way it's designed means that the trainer literally wraps itself around your foot. I wear mine day in day out and get around 12 months out of them, the plastic insert in the heel is the first thing that goes and then you need to add powder to stop it squeaking! This is brutal honesty though and I again stress that if you have a wide foot you have to try this shoe out. Even with it's down sides, I've been buying this shoe for probably 6 years now, this last purchase would be around my 5th or 6th and I truly dread the day it goes out of production. Please Merrel keep em coming and don't change anything! (except perhaps the heel) ;-)

I had a pair of these before, which lasted for a long time despite almost daily use. When they finally needed replacing, I bought a pair of Merrell Moab's & once they also wore out, tried another Merrell model. While these both performed well, neither were a durable & long-lasting as the Chameleon, so I eventually bought a second pair.Compared with the other Merrell's, the Chameleon's soles are noticeably thicker & more solid. They are solidly constructed, with fewer areas for the different sections or seams to separate. While I found all three of the Merrell shoes to be hard-wearing, these are superior to the the others. However, they are as a result much chunkier than the others,so may not suit everyones' needs. As well as being solid, they are also very comfortable. Personally, I would like for them to come in a brown colour but I value utility over looks, so it doesn't bother me very much.

Very comfortable, inner soles move around a bit, but not a big issue.UpdateI've had this pair now exactly one year and they are amazing! In my initial review I mentioned that the inner soles were moving around, but replaced them with different hiking shoe inner soles, so no problem. I do that often with other shoes so in my eyes not an issue. Been wearing them on all my travels and have been wearing this particular pair more often than all my other shoes combined. Vibram soles give excellent grip and synthetic build prevents feet from getting hot and sweaty. Been travelling around Russia and Eastern Siberia during winter and all you have to do is wear a good pair of winter socks and worked fine in the snow. They also joined me on my Great Wall of China trip and was perfect. Gravel, boulders, paving, carpet, handles all the terrain I use it on, wet or dry.

Excellent quality and comfortable for hiking.I'm a large chap with wide feet and had terrible trouble finding shoes that do not leave me with aching feet and blisters after a few miles. Boots are fine in the winter but with better weather wanted something that would be more comfortable. These have brilliant reviews everywhere and have to say i agree they are a fantastically well made quality hiking shoe. They fit well and feel substantial particularly around the heel and back of ankle where many are too low cut or the shoe is too narrow so my wider foot does not fit well so the backs then rub. Again none of those issues and first hike in ages where no blisters, very grippy tread and comfortable straight out of the box,Look good too in the black with yellow.Cannot recommend enough tbh.

I have several other pairs of Merrells. Chameleon 3 in Gore-tex, and Chameleon 4 plain. Also a couple of pairs of Moab Ventilators.I live in the tropics where the heat/humidity seems to destroy elastics, so my Chameleon 3 & 4 laces all failed after a year or two. The Moabs have "real" laces. More sensible in the heat.I bought the Wrap Slam because they have real laces, have a tougher more supportive sole, and are breathable. The Gore-tex Chameleon 3 doesn't really breath, and the Chameleon 4 are a very soft, comfortable shoe, but I feel much more support, for the same level of comfort, with the Wrap Slams.Sizes with Merrell's are one complete size too small. If you wear a 12 then order a 13!Its a pity that they are only available in the UK.
