I had been wearing the big "D" boots for years, in particular the striker series. They changed them, two more times from the original, and their last iteration was impossible to wear. Seriously, those boots is all I ever wore, work, home, beach, etc. Trying things like the popular "C" shoes, sneaks, etc. all gave my feet major problems even with orthotics. I'm as flat footed as they come, so this is always an issue and thus why I wear orthotics.Fast forward and I did a lot of research on boots. I had thought of trying a more common name in uniform boots, but wanted to try these because of the good reviews. These turned out to be an awesome find. I know that I was wearing an 11 EE in the big "D" and so I ordered the 11.5 EE (wide)in the Timberlands and that turned out to be a good idea. Their sizes run a tad small and definitely not as wide. Timberlands EE is more narrow than the big "D" EE. Since they don't make an even wider size, I'll make due. And the leather will surely stretch, it always does. The quality of these is amazing. They have a great build quality, seems to be very comfortable though I have just started wearing them today. They do accommodate an orthodic, but not as well as some other wide boots may. Either way I have been wearing them since USPS delivered today (SUNDAY) and they feel good. This is a first, never had a pair of shoes or boots that I could wear the whole day and not have aching feet. The only real problem I see is that this size is sold out everywhere. Even Amazon. I can only hope they are not discontinued, that would be awful and would have to start searching all over again for something that fits and works with my feet. I even tried a pair of Timberland White Ledge or something, 11 EE, and those are being returned. They are not wide enough, not long enough, and they cut down across the top of my foot no matter how loose I make them. My goal is just to buy enough of these to have on hand as the others wear, to go into a new pair. I figure a pair of boots, worn all day and night, might last 9 months-1 year, if I get more that is great. But a year is a good plan even per my foot doctor as they wear down over that year.If you like brown, or you can find these in your size, go for it. They are awesome boots and feel very comfortable, even on someone who has major foot issues with fit/comfort/etc. I've written to Timberland to see what their future plans are for this model.UPDATE: After about a week, my feet could not be happier. They are working out well. In fact, much better than my previous brand boot that I was wearing for 7-10 years. I would buy 2 new pairs of those other brand boots each year. I'd wear a pair to work, then come home and get changed, and wear the other. And after a year, they were both worn down pretty bad. I'd know because my knees would start hurting. So, I can only hope these hold up as well.....so far, so good. Bad part is these are on backorder until October, 2014 per Timberland. (in black)

Finally got my 2nd pair of these. Had my first pair for about 3+ years of heavy use. When it came time to replace I wanted to try a higher end boot. Got a pair of Merrils and had problems with the fit of the right boot, then they started to rub the top of my toes, again, in the right boot. Was frustrated and decided to go with "tried and true" and ordered my 2nd pair of these. So with HEAVY use I can say...Pros:-fit right out of the box, don't really need to break them in-waterproofing held up and still is on my original pair, I'm impressed-they're very light weight and VERY comfortable-they look good-they're great on downhills (not all hiking boots are)-not too badly priced; especially if youget them on saleCons:-The traction isn't as aggressive as I'd like-the tread wears a little quick and since there wasn't an aggressive tread to begin with it seems they wore down too soon. I continue to wear my old pair for dirty jobs as work boots and they're fine but on slick surfaces or muddy slopes they got a little to slick a little too soon-the laces that come with these boots won't stay tied for anything; plan on replacing them immediately-The insoles are cheap; I used the originals for the life of my first pair but bought new insoles for my 2nd pair and it almost transforms the boot in a good way. I LOVE my 2nd pair a 100% more with the new insoles.-They eyelets have never broken on mine as others have reported but they are a bit sharp so they wear thinner laces (the kind I prefer) rather quickly.-You can really feel rocks through the sole; these are better for smoother trails; for really rocky terrain they're a bit thin. When I wear out my 2nd pair I'll try again to find my "ultimate" hikers but frankly for the money you'd be hard pressed to get much better than these. I know I listed quite a few cons but don't shy away; just get them on sale and buy some better insoles and you'll have a great boot. The fact that my 1st pair are still waterproof after such heavy use is really impressive to me and the old pair are still more than serviceable.

These shoes were for me, not my wife, so I'm writing the review. The last pair of hiking boots were the same brand, though a different model. The first pair were very comfortable. At the time I walked about 3-5 miles a day working at a zoo. These shoes are important to my daily comfort. This new pair fit well right out of the box and I am hard to fit well. I'm left handed so shoes are made slightly out of size for me, because our hands and feet are larger on one side than the other. Shoes are made for right handed people so the fit is always a bit troublesome for us lefties, because our larger foot is not a right handed person's larger foot. Even so, these shoes fit decently well.I use these shoes for *all* my outdoor activities.I work in a garden, maintain 16 acres of property and do a load of hiking most every day during my photographic journies. On average, I'd say I hike about 3 miles a day. This includes regularly playing disc golf and these shoes (like their predecessors) hold up well.I'm not sure about their waterproofing. I consider shoes like this in the same way as a water resistant watch -- it's not meant to indicate you can walk in the water and never get soaked, just that they are less likely to get as soaked as a non-treated boot. So far, these shoes have held up their promise of being a good fit, rugged, dry and durable. The last pair lasted me about three years of rough walking on rocky, muddy, sandy and hilly terrain, plus roof work and the extra stress of being used for disc golf (lots of torque on the foot at release.) *(note: 3 years may not sound like much, but try this: 3 miles times 365, times 4 [4380 miles] and you'll see they stood up well in that time.) These shoes hold the promise of an even better lasting pair with better lowers and uppers of leather instead of mesh nylon like my other boots.

Love these boots! I've tried many different boots including Daner, Kean, Salomon, and Scarpa. These work best for me for a few reasons: 1. They fit my feet really well. This is the most important aspect of any boot. 2. They're plenty light--not super tough, but more than enough protection for most hikes. I have a pair of Salomon's that are lighter, but those are glorified sneakers. Light weight is important to me and I don't need a super stiff sole, but sometimes I want boots with protection from rocks and a bit of ankle support. These fit the bill. 3. They keep water out even when submerged. 4. Pretty good grip dry, wet, or snow. There are a few negatives, but nothing that stopped me from buying a second pair after the first one wore out:1. The soles flex easily. This makes it easier to walk but if you have sensitive feet and plan on hiking really rocky terrain, perhaps consider something with a thicker sole. 2. I went through 3 sets of laces. Obviously, I liked the boots enough that it was worth it to keep replacing them. To be fair, the stock laces lasted a couple years, but cheap laces I replaced them with didn't. The last set of laces I got are quality nylon laces from REI and they've held up well. Get kevlar laces if you're worried about it. 4. The arch support is okay, but Superfeet inserts made these boots perfect. I used the orange ones with a bit of extra padding.

These are very nice hikers. I do a lot of hiking in fairly rugged terrain and brush. These hold up well and are very comfortable even on long hikes. That being said, they are surely not for every foot, and I also bought after market insoles to replace the ones they came with. I do this with all my shoes because the manufacturers don't care about insoles and just want you to buy the shoe. If you are just using the insole that comes with any shoe or boot you are probably not getting the most out of your shoes-especially work boots, athletic shoes, and hiking boots.I use Powerstep Pros in all my shoes. I have slightly narrow feet and high arches and the Powersteps are a good fit for me.I've tried the Powerstep Pinnacles and the fabric peeled off from the insole-on the one I bought and four other replacement pairs. I would suggest that you avoid those. I take a pair of the Pros shoe shopping with me and replace the insoles of the new shoes before I buy them, just to make sure they feel right. I am very picky about my foot comfort. So if you are serious about a good fitting, comfortable hiking boot, these Timberlands are worth a try- but whatever shoe you choose, do yourself a favor and get some good insoles to go with them. They add about $30 to the cost, but if you are on your feet all day long and your feet are tired or aching, good insoles are worth as much as the shoe.

These are the lightest boots I own. I read reviews before making purchases and I was skeptical about them being light weighted and waterproof before my camping and hiking trip. At any rate, Ive bought tons from Amazon with little to no problems and products have been very accurate and even performed better than expected. The boot is lined with waterproof material, as I didn't have time to wipe them down with mink oil before the trip I did spray them with waterproofing the night before to achieve the same leather treatment as the oil.Upon hiking I never once noticed the boots being too heavy, as we hiked and jumped over small creeks I decided to walk through them to see its effectiveness on the waterproofing. As we reached our peak of waterfalls my feet were still dry. We made it back to camp and I wore the boots the rest of the day and the remainder of the trip for a full 5 days. Feet were not sore, no brusing or breaking in & Tons of hikes and use and they are still holding up a few weeks later. Was very pleased with this purchase. Would recommend to anyone that is going camping and or hiking.I haven't noticed anything about the laces becoming frayed upon lacing b/c of the tongue area and the bent metal eyelets however if anything changes in the future I will update my post. make sure you get a few good pairs of hiking socks to pair with your new boots.

As noted in many reviews, these boots were immediately comfortable. Before wearing, I sunk them in three inches of water for ten minutes. The insides remained completely dry. I broke them in on a three-hour hike over mixed terrain that included a lot of mud and shallow water. They performed perfectly. The boots are lightweight but with a stiff enough bottom that rocks and roots cause no discomfort. They are comfortably padded and did not slip or chafe. A remarkable performance for brand-new shoes under difficult conditions. If they prove to be durable, the Timberland Chocorua boots will be a value shoe that I shall gladly buy again.-------Two and one-half years and hundreds of hard miles later, the Chocurua boots are still going. For such a grippy tread, the sole has proven extremely durable. The boot remains slipper-comfortable and very waterproof. I recently walked 30 minutes through shallow water and mud. The bottom of one sock became slightly damp. The rubber toe has begun to separate from the leather. That started when the boots were only a few months old, so I occasionally reglued and sealed them with clear silicone caulk. The separation is suddenly more serious, so these boots will be retired to yard work. One improvement made at the start was to insert a thin foam insert beneath the standard insert. It made the shoe outstandingly comfortable.

I have to say I was a bit apprehensive about purchasing the Chocorua. A quick Internet search revealed a number of users complaining about broken eyelets, and a visit to the local Timberland store provided the confirmation that "a few" people were having this problem. With a 10-day upcoming trip to the desert, I was justifiably concerned: A broken eyelet in the middle of nowhere would prevent proper lacing, ruining the hike. After 10 days walking over coarse and fine sand, climbing rocks, crossing streams and even using it to re-position a stubborn log in a bonfire, I couldn't be happier. The Chocorua is lightweight and performed well over all kinds of terrain. On top of that,it is one of the cheapest Gore-Tex light hiking boots available on the market.== Update Feb/2013 ==I've been using these boots for 2 1/2 years now. It has been through everything from the sands and rocks of the Mojave desert, to all kinds of hikes and *daily* urban use. The Chocorua never failed me during this time. The sole started to show signs of wear after one year of use, and severe wear after two years. Please, again, note that I'm using these boots DAILY and most of my other shoes don't last that long under the same conditions. These boots are so comfortable that I literally stopped using all my other shoes.I couldn't be happier and I just ordered another pair.

I'm not qualified to review these boots from the perspective of a knowledgeable hiker; I purchased these in the hopes of getting my first pair of reasonable boots to begin the transition from day hikes to real hikes, and boy have they excelled so far.In Florida, there isn't much rocky/steep terrain to test these against, but they've definitely proven they can keep grip in the wet stuff. Which is good, because you run into a lot of wet stuff around here. The waterproofing has so far proven true to the advertising. I haven't treated these with mink oil (yet) but for the one hike they've been out on,they've kept my socks dry even in two inch deep water.Lately I've been breaking them in by wearing them during a normal day and they have succeeded in giving me confidence that I can wear them for a full 14 hours without feeling worn out or getting sore, tired feet. With high arches, I do experience a bit of fatigue late in the day, but it's mitigated by the lacing options of the boots. The lacing eyelets seem to follow what I would expect to see on a hiep terrain king boot. I've no other previous boots to base my experience on but the hot button issue with these seems to be the quick lacing eyelets for the ankle and the quality of them. So far, I've approached them cautiously, but even with a good tightening they seem to hold sturdy.

I have worn these boots through a trip to Iceland, hiking in the mountains, and out to the same mountains to hunt. At no time were my feet wet or sore and they were rarely cold. I am seriously impressed with just how waterproof these are, I have submerged them crossing streams or by stepping in a puddle and stood around in soggy mud or several inches of snow... they have never leaked in the 4 months I have been using them. I have not had them rub or found the souls to uncomfortable and the boots have never given me a blister. They were quite warm especially when walking and even through snow when the temperature was sub 30 (with wool socks),the only time my feet got cold was when I was standing stationary for about an hour in a pine forest at the top of a mountain in a snow storm when the temps were at or below the 20 degree mark.... and I think a second layer of wool socks would have probably fixed that. When I got to moving again they started to warm up though they didn't get completely comfortable again until I made it to the truck. Bring an extra pair of socks and these boots can handle any temperature you will likely elect to be outdoors in under most non arctic circumstances. Maybe pick something else up for the worst days of winter but for fall, spring, and most of winter these a great boot.

Have never ordered a wide shoe in my life, but I had to return the normal pair I ordered for a wide pair. Amazon was great about the exchange though. Even the wides feel a little tight to start out. The problem is no longer fitting into the boot, but tightening the laces. Would like it if the boot were just a tad taller over the bridge area where the lower laces are. Like I said, this is my first wide pair of shoes, so I don't think I have really weird feet and am assuming that these just run small width-wise. The length is perfect, no issue there.I considered returning them, but decided to try them out to see if they would break in at all. (I added Dr. Scholl's inserts, have no idea how good the ones are that come with the boots, they seem like typical foam.) As expected, feet were a little sore the first day. The second day, the shoes were softer and more comfortable, although still a little tight. After 4 or 5 days, these are now a very comfortable shoe. They are no longer tight, but I still need longer laces.Bought these mainly due to the price, goretex, and simple design (no hot pink/green/etc.). I'm very happy with how comfortable they are, and was actually a little surprised at how good the ankle support was. If it weren't for the sizing issue, these would probably be a 5 star for me.

I got these boots to use for camping, fishing, hiking, yard work, car work, etc. I've never really had a good pair of work boots or hiking boots, so I got these to kill two birds with one stone. I really can't say enough about these boots. They are warmer than running shoes, but still breathable enough that my feet don't get sweaty. They are very comfortable and provide great ankle support, which is important for me because I sprained my ankle badly about a year ago and still have some discomfort in that ankle from time to time. The tread on the bottom has been great in the mud, on the rocks, and on the snow. The material and construction are high quality. My feet stay perfectly dry so the goretex seems to do its job.I found out after I had these for a couple of months that my dad bought the exact same boots a couple of years ago and he used them for walking to work every morning (about 4 miles). He racked up hundreds of miles on these things and they held up beautifully. He doesn't walk in them to work anymore because the tread is too worn to wear on the snow and ice in Minnesota, but he still keeps them around for gardening and yard work. If these are still being produced when my current pair wears out I will definitely buy another pair.

I've switched from the big "D" manufacturer in boots, after they discontinued the one I had been wearing for years. These have been working well for me, and to be honest, I have really flat and messed up feet. I've had to get cortisone shots, wear orthodics, going to physical therapy, etc. so this gives you some insight. These boots are the only thing my feet will now accept. I bought this style as the black (which I wear for work) are no longer available - well, they get a pair here and there, but they seem to be out of stock most of the time. So I figured I'd give this color a try. I know it says green and brown, but it is a subtle green and after some wear it won't look green I'm sure.It looks more like a grayish green, not bright green. So, to save a few bucks I went with this color and there are so few of these boots around, and I'm not disappointed. They fit exactly the same as the black ones. They are great boots and accept orthodics well, which most do not. They are waterproof and have a goretex liner. I've had no problems with the hardware that holds the laces onto the boot, this seems to be a non-issue. I've bought 3 pairs of the black ones and 1 pair of these brown/green.

I am now on my fourth pair of these boots! They are so comfortable I wear them every day to work and play. Hiking, fishing, concrete floors at work... spring, summer, fall and winter... all of my activities are in comfort. My feet never get to hot or cold. After about 3 months of wear and tear, I replace the insole with a gel insert... But I even have to do this with my sneakers and dress shoes because I am on my feet all day and I find I need the extra support. Once I purchase an insole for the boot, I am pretty much set for years. I still wear my first pair of boots for dirty jobs around the house(mowing the lawn with a push mower, changing the oil in the vehicles etc.).My point here is that even though they are not the best looking boot in the house, they are still comfortable for me to wear and serve a purpose. I will have to retire them soon because after 4 years of dirty work they are just about out of tread. The remainder of the boot is in real good shape. I will continue to buy these boots for as long as Timberland makes them. Before I found this boot, I would have to purchase a new pair every half year. Now I purchase a new pair once a year.

I usually buy cheap Walmart boots for our younger kids, until their feet stop growing. I can't see paying $$$ for something they'll wear for six months. Our teenage son's feet are done growing, and he was ready for his first pair of good quality hiking boots. We had looked locally for his boots, but he wears a 14 wide and most stored didn't carry them. So I ordered a pair for him, and another one for my husband. Our family hikes and camps a lot, and we live on a farm and need dependable boots for working outside. These are excellent boots, and well worth the cost. They have a great rubber sole that grips and cushions. The upper is leather and truly waterproof - very important for the way we wear boots. They come up above the ankle by several inches, and the padded tongue keeps them from rubbing or pinching. They're lightweight by boot standards, and my son loved them the first time he wore them - no breaking in period! The best part for me was the free Prime shipping and free returns. Buying shoes over the Internet is sometimes tricky, and mailing boots back would be expensive. But these fit perfectly, and once again Amazon has just what we needed.
