I bought this shoe as I was looking for something for the Autumn/Winter/Spring months in the UK for dog walking, a bit of hiking and general wear when out with the family.I had a pair of Merrell Chameleon 4 Mid Top’s which fitted perfectly in a UK12.5. However, I found the Hedgehog Fastpack GTX UK13 to be quite a bit longer (they don’t offer a UK12.5).I also bought a UK12, and this was very close to being right - But my big toe was pushing against the side.My typical size in trainers/sneakers is a UK12 (Under Armour, Nike, Adidas etc)The shoe itself looks and feels extremely well built - Although I would worry the “zig-zag” pattern would come away quite quickly as it’s only single stitched. The style is a personal thing - I like the style, and I think for an everyday shoe, it looks great (compared with your typical hiking shoes, which look like hiking shoes). You could easily get away with wearing these for everyday use.The Vibram sole has a good looking tread pattern, and is more typical of a running shoe, rather than the rounded “blobs” you get on some Merrell sole’s (both do the same thing though). The insole which is provided is relatively flimsy, so I’d certainly swap this out for something else. Finally, for anyone trying to order the right size, I’ve recently purchased numerous pairs of different brands, and this is what I’ve found:Usual Trainer/Sneaker size: UK12Merrell Chameleon 4 GTX: UK12.5 - Perfect Fit - Bought in 2014, still going strong.Merrell MOAB 2 GTX: UK12.5 - Big toe on right shoe pushing against side - Toe box seems narrower than Chameleon range), but the length was OK - UK13 would be too long. The North Face Hedgehog Fastback GTX: UK12 - Almost an identical fit to the Merrell MOAB 2 UK12.5 - I had the same issue with the big toe pushing against the side - Length was fine. The North Face Hedgehog Fastback GTX: UK13 - Too long, even with insoles (superfeet on top of volume reducers). Other than that, very comfortable. I had a thumb and a half of space at the end of my shoe, which would have caused issues in the long run. If they did a UK12.5, I feel it would almost be perfect.Merrell Chameleon Wrap Slam: UK12.5 - This is the pair that I’ve settled on. Whilst they aren’t waterproof, they are supremely comfortable, and offer a nice snug fit. Plenty of toe room, and well designed. The Hedgehog’s look great, and are competitively priced - If they came in a UK12.5, I’d probably get them and keep them, but the UK12 is a touch too small in the toe box, and the UK13 is too long.If you’d like to ask any questions, feel free!

Aug 2016: Ok, so having read some reviews about these Hedgehogs I had some concerns about their durability but decided to try them anyway. Out of the box the fit (UK 7.5) was just right for me and they were so comfortable I went out and did 5mls straight away with no issues at all. By the end of Dec 16 I had covered over 420mls in the Hedgehogs over various terrain: tarmac, tracks, paths, fields and hills and, as they had started to show obvious signs of tread wear, I bought another pair in Jan 17 and for the next 8mths I wore both pairs intermitently. In Aug 17 having done 400mls (#walka1000miles) in the second pair I decided to just continue wearing the 1st pair until they were shot!As of today 22/02/18 the first pair have covered 1005mls and only the left heal has worn through the first layer of tread, and although they are still comfortable and wearable they are not to be trusted on mud or icy/wet surfaces! So no durability issues at all and still waterproof and breathable!!Verdict: I had to replace the laces (with paracord) on both pairs and had to replace the insoles twice, with Altberg Svartz (brilliant), as TNF don't supply replacements. The only criticism I would offer is that the original insoles are a bit thin and hard and the top of the heal spurs wear through after about 500mls, but neither of these caused any problems like blisters etc. Other than that it would be hard/picky to find fault with these Hedgehogs.Bottom line: For me these were/are perfect and I will buy again, in the future, as I still have at least another 600mls left in the second pair!!

These are easily the most comfortable trainers I've ever owned.I ordered the 'shady blue' style which looked almost black with blue highlights in the picture but is actually more of a navy blue in real life (as you'd probably expect from the name).I actually like the colour, and the trainers look fine with various different colour trousers/jeans.I've had several pairs of North Face Hedgehogs over the years and they've always been good quality and lasted well. I occasionally swap to a pair of Merrell Gore-tex trainers instead but usually regret it and find myself buying another pair of Hedgehogs before the others really need replacing! After a few years my old pair have finally started to show their age with cracks in the leather-effect fabric by the toe and a fair bit of the tread going,so it was time for a new pair. They might seem expensive at nearly £100, but they outlast all my other shoes by a lot, and for a waterproof pair of trainers that are so comfortable you almost forget you're wearing them you easily get your money's worth!

I have been wearing Salomon shoes for years and was going to buy another pair but, one might be forgiven for thinking that they seem to have lost touch with reality, with regard to their prices. I have never bought this brand before. They're not cheap but reasonably priced. They fit well and were comfortable from the outset. They are NOT waterproof but ARE as water resistant as one might reasonably expect. If you want water PROOF buy leather and treat it frequently. Two minor complaints. The laces did not seem keen on staying done up, but this was overcome with a triple knot as opposed to the usual double and one of them made a strange noise at first. This noise has either gone or I have got used to it,as I no longer hear it. I think that they will last well but I am about to buy another pair so that they are in stock when my first pair wear out. Clearly, I like them.

My foot size is normally 10.5 UK with high arches and relatively wide. My walks vary greatly from long, tarmacadam and flat terrain to rough hills. Many of the reviews stated these shoes were small, so went for 11UK. Turned out to be a perfect fit for me. The shoes are not the lightest, but once on they felt very comfortable. My first test was roughly 10 miles on easy walking tracks and roads. Felt great with no hint of blisters. Second walk was just over 11 miles of varying surfaces including one or two steep but short ascents and descents. Shoes performed well again, and give great support, feeling rigid but comfortable. Third walk was 9 miles through rough farm fields, some areas of which were wet.Feet were dry at the end. I would recommended the shoes to friends and family, and more importantly I would buy them again.

Brilliant. Wear mine everyday and everywhere that I don't need ankle support or smart shoes. This is my fourth pair, 'cos they're so good. Extremely comfortable and practical, with enormous grip. Went on a cookery course recently and one of the other guys wore an identical pair. They lose one star because they lose their waterproofing pretty quickly. All of mine have. But that doesn't worry me because I reproof them regularly with NikWax. Simple job and works very well. Despite wearing them daily, and all year round, I get about 2 years of general use out of them before the soles wear down and they become a bit smelly. At that point I use them riding my bike to work because they have good, solid soles. Very highly recommended!

After walking with them all over the city of Frankfurt and hiking in the mountains on different terrains, I conclude that: POSITIVE - They have good temperature inside. -They are 100% waterproof. -In mud terrain you will not slip. - Very easy to tie and leave the loop to return to carry them in the future. - Ankle protected correctly even if they are low boots. THE NEGATIVE - On icy ground you will slip even though it is vibram - Catching me a size that allows to enter a whole finger inside behind the heel, I have noticed that if I accidentally hit a rock it does a little damage to my big toe. -They do not clean themselves after an adventure haha but the good thing is that they do not smellbad inside!

Not yet worn this product. I purchased the to replace a pair of leather Hedgehog GTX I have been using constantly for the past 12 months. I have logged 1000 miles in them, over mixed terrain, since last January. They are now ruined; the heels have worn to nothing in places and are through to the midsole. However, despite being somewhat disappointed with the wear, they have kept my feet warm, dry and comfortable throughout. I've chosen to replace them with the FP GTX as the heel unit is a somewhat different design and appears a little thicker. Hopefully my feet will be as warm and dry as my last pair. My only concern is the stability of this particular shoe. Time will tell!

Goretex actually works .I initially bought some Merrell shoes which look cosmetically more attractive as these shoes look hi tech ish but the the Merrells started to come apart after a month .I rejected the Merrells and replaced with NF and they from day 1 were comfortable. I had a hot spot on my heel but I have a spur so it was expected. After around 6 weeks and 300k walking in grass mud and tarmac I can honestly say they are very good. Waterproof in grass and mud and comfortable. They look dowdy and cheap but if you want walking shoes with a high degree of waterproofing and good traction these are the ones .Laces are a pain as they are too long but only a minor criticism

Update: I have worn these shoes for 4 months solid and I love them. I wear them every day. They are warm, comfortable and water resistant. They give me great support. I would not hesitate to recommend these to anyone!I am hard on shoes, so I decided to spend money on a good pair of shoes. These fit well and are comfortable. Will walk them in and see how they perform. I use insteps for my flat feet. The instep soles fitted well. There is space for my little toes which is always a problem. Hopefully these last for a year.Update: these are really comfortable, well fitting shoes. I am going to buy another pair soon!!!

I bought these trainers to replace a similar pair that I had bought from a well known high Street dealer. Much to my surprise the trainers were no longer available from the high street store so I looked on Amazon and came across these trainers. I particularly wanted Gore-Tex. This was the first time I had ever ordered shoes/trainers on the internet so I was a bit apprehensive. When they arrived they were a perfect fit and look very smart. They are very comfortable and I have not really tested them in wet weather.I am hoping that I get good wear from them but cannot comment on that aspect yet. So far so good.

23.4.2019

Very surprised how comfortable these are from day 1 straight out of the box. The fit was exactly as expected I take a regular 9. Comfort wise these are excellent a cross between a trainer and walking shoes. I cannot comment on their durability or waterproofing as it's far too early and it's not rained since I got them I will be back to give my opinion on how they are lasting in about 6 months. They are quite light, but sturdy offering good support for the foot I guess the would be suitable for people with Plantars fascites or other foot problems. I would recommended them

This is the third pair of North face Hedgehogs I've owned, the first 2 pairs I used every day on 2 one year round the world trips and suffered some serious abuse from all types of weather conditions from snow, sand and sea. one pair lasted 2 years the other 3 years. I have to say that everything from comfort and grip is excellent. The waterproofing is very good but if you want more you would be better with an ankle high boot. Overall great value sturdy shoe. I am normally size 10 but went for 9.5 in these which fit me perfectly with 0.5cm give in them

8.5.2019

This is my third pair of these shoes, the previous two of which each lasted around fifteen months despite them being worn almost every day not only for walking to the shops or around the park, but also on some pretty demanding treks. These shoes are comfortable straight from the box and my previous shoes have remained waterproof throughout the time I've had them. As I've only owned the new pair for a couple of days I can't say how long they'll last, but so far at least they seem just as good as the previous pairs I've owned.

I received the North face Heggehog with my feet destroyed by the old worn out shafts, and as I tried them on I felt comfortable and went out to try them, I have been doing 30 km a day in the bush for a week and I could not be more delighted. In addition to the product also with the service since even in times that we all understand complicated and that I am not in a city but in a rural area they arrived on schedule, thank you very much trekkinn x for the job so well done, you did me a great job favor.
