I purchased these for a recent trip to Costa Rica during the rainy season there. I was pretty skeptical about buying a waterproof shoe for hiking the rainforest, mainly due to worries of my feet getting too hot or the shoe itself getting waterlogged too easily. Thankfully, neither of those came true. I ended up wearing this pair every single day on every single hike, along with my smartwool socks, and could not have been happier. They were incredibly comfortable, never got hot, and even survived being fully submerged in the hot springs for a minute after being taken away by a current (after sticking them behind the hotel fridge, they dried up within 24 hours without any noticeable damage).Among other things, I used these with a pair of gaitors to hike up Cerro Chato, which was not your typical hike. The trail was pretty steep with plenty of mud and deep puddles, but these made the entire trek comfortable, doable, and mostly slip-free. Hiking in them every day for about a week, I never got a blister or had my feet ache afterward, which was pretty shocking considering I had just purchased them and didn't have the time to break them in. I can't say anything with regards to long-term wear and tear, since I've only had them a couple of weeks--but, I can say they were incredibly reliable and allowed me to focus on enjoying my hikes through the rainforest rather than worry about whether or not my feet would survive. Also, boy am I glad I didn't buy a pair of Keen sandals instead (which, most people online recommended for Costa Rica). I accidentally stepped near an ant crossing (not your typical ant either) and these guys saved my feet from what would've been some pretty serious stings. Would absolutely recommend!

This is the third pair of Moab Mid boots I have purchased. Amazingly comfortable for my wide feet, the first pair were used regularly in the hills and for dog walking. After 2 years, the Goretex 'gave up' and they're only fit for days when the ground is dry. Bought a replacement pair which only lasted 6 months before the same thing happened - returned to Amazon who immediately reimbursed me for them with no fuss. Bought a replacement pair which again are being used regularly & am hoping to get a couple of years (at least) out of them.UPDATE: Had the boots for less than four months and they're a delight to wear. Unfortunately the upper has come away from the sole at the outer toe on the left foot creating a 2" split - means that water gets in when walking through long grass, for example. Amazon agreed to a replacement with no fuss so hopefully the next pair will be better - replacement arrived within 48 hours of me raising the complaint - very impressive service

I have been backpacking for the past eight years and these by far are my favorite boot. I was so in love with my last pair that I refused to give them up until I had no choice. So I bought another pair. These boots are perfect at keeping my feet dry, not only from foot sweat but from when you step in ankle deep water. When you do submerge your foot where you get water in the boot, I found they dried out rather quickly on warm days, even when I was still wearing them.Cold days, they do a great job at keeping my feet warm enough when I would hit snow fields. This is a mid-weight boot, which for me is light enough for all day hiking even with a 40-50 pound pack without adding to much weight to my feet yet still provides protection on rocky terrain. As with most water-resistant clothing,I found about after the third year, every other year or so the boots benefited adding a fresh coat of water repellent spray such as

The Merrell Moab Mid boots with Gore-Tex are a fine $100 light hiking boot. They have a quality construction, a nice grippy sole, and are quite breathable. What they are not is a backpacking boot. The ankle support of the mid is no greater than that of the low, what the mid offers is the ability to walk through deeper water than the low. While they are lighter than a proper backpacking boot they are not as light as even the taller trail-runners.The lacing system is adequate, but not the most durable. If you are one to sit cross legged on the ground you will eventually bend the stamped speed laces. The lacing system is also difficult to segment. If you prefer tightening the foot more than the ankle (or vise versa)these boots are not for you.The upper material, while quite breathable and surprisingly resistant to abrasion, is difficult to clean. I would suggest not wearing these in clay muds.

I do a lot of hiking in all weather conditions, sometimes a much as 25 miles in a day with a light pack. I searched for years to find a good boot and these are the ones. I never get blisters and they fit perfect right out of the box. I don't even need to break them in. The only problem is they don't last very long. The liner wears out in the heel and toe area has de-laminated on several. I buy these whenever I find them on sale and restock my supply. I also use the non-Gortex version for desert hiking and I find that version to be just a little looser fit, but I still use the same size. Seems to allow for good air circulation and I still don't get any blisters.I have gone through about a dozen of the gtx versions and 2 or three of the regular versions. I will never change and it will be a sad day when they eventually stop making these.

I am generally a size 10.5/11 dependant on the make of the show/boot/trainer. I bought a size 11 in these due to the previous reviews about being slightly snug.I have just completed the 3 peaks challenge in these boots and that was without wearing them in and I found them to be very comfortable. Not a single blister. I wore 2 pairs of socks, 1 pair a thick walking sock, and found the fit to be just fine. No pinching. I was very impressed by how comfortable they actually felt. Nice bit of flexibility, so it does not feel like you are wearing a pair of concrete boots, but still provides plenty of stability going over loose rocky ground. The weather we had when completing the walk was good so I cannot really comment as to how good they are in wet conditions as yet.(that's why it's 4 stars and not the full 5)

This is my second pair of these, they're that good. My first pair got ruined as I used them as working boots when working on my truck. Bad idea. They are one of the few boots that I've bought that don't require any walk-in time. They are comfortable right out of the box. You could easily go on a 15 mile walk in these the day you bought them. Well, for my feet anyway. They don't look waterproof, but they are.Because they're highly flexible they make walking a much more comfortable and pleasurable experience compared to rigid walking boots.Highly recommended.Incidentally, I wanted the "Dark Tan" colour as that's what I had before but only the "Beluga" colour was available in my size.I'm glad because the colour is much nicer in the flesh and I prefer it to the dark tan colour.

having big feet i found it hard to find boots that fitted and were comfy so was drawn to these as they do big sizes and the reviews were good.tried them today fresh from the box on a 10 km walk in the dales over crushed rock paths, tree roots wet rocks and sharp stone and they were great.no blisters or achy feet, feel very light and comfy and done a good job of stopping my feet sliding forwards down hill.walked ankle deep in a fast flowing river to test the goretex and no water got in.only thing i will do is replace the insole as all i wear are trainers normally and want the boots to feel a bit more more cushioned.(update)ordered some timerland Anti-Fatigue Technology Insoles and stuck them in and now it's like walking on air :-)

Very nice boots. I still have Ventilator shoes from Merrell after 4 years constant use. What a fantastic brand. Light and snug. I gave one star less because I ware 9.5 size and prefer little wider hiking shoes. The 9.5 was slightly too short with my Morino wool socks and little narrow. My wife and her gerfriend gave me lots of complements how the shoes looks so I ordered size 10 to show off ?. This is after getting Salomon full ankle hiking boots for $230 but what a boots. Incredible , but that is a separate story. The pair of Merrell I am getting (size 10) are like my old incredible Merrill Ventilator shoes, great every day hiking shoes with light backpack and dry Northern California climat (no much rain but rather dry and worn)

I have owned merrell's in the past but decided to upgrade this year to the Moab Mids Gore-Tex XCR. I was very excited to try the out and test their capabilities. I have hiked approx 40 miles in them in the past month and one trip was 20 miles over very rough terrain in western Maine. they had been broken in a just a little but even so i didnt get any blisters over the 20 miles. I was also very pleased with being able to step in water and not have to worry about getting wet feet. I would absolutely recommend these for anyone who values good ankle support, breath-ability, waterproof, rugged boots. they have good arch support and whether you day hike or extended hike this is a comfortable, good looking, fantastic product by Merrell.

I've had several pairs of this style over the years and I've always been delighted with them. In addition to duties when walking in the Peak District etc I use these for my walking commutes. Their ability to keep water out in either setting is impressive. If my feet are happy and dry then I'm a happy walker. They also cushion my feet well and seem to give me a spring in my step. For street shoes I wear a size 11 and in the past I'd bought these a whole size larger, so a size 12. This time I thought I'd get an 11.5 and I'm appreciating the slightly more snug fit. I think a whole size larger was too big.I tend to wear a pair of thinner base layer socks along with a pair or thick woollen socks.

Usually 81/2 is slightly on larger side. but this one looks quite small for 81/2. sometime, I feel it is slightly tight.prosquite sturdy, relatively light. I used on windy and low temperature (-1) it is quite warm. This is the first shoe I ever used which is quite warm on peak winter. I exposed to rain only few minutes and seems like it can handle pretty well.foot grip is good. Colour and appearance is quite pleasant.conssmaller than the actual sizebecause of rain and weather protection, the holes for shoes laces were at slight angle. I can understand the reason behind this. but this makes laces slight difficult to use. I have to put more effort to put and undo the laces

I've only been wearing these a short time and I have to say they are excellent. The build quality of the shoe itself is very robust, it is shaped well and snugs the foot nicely in all the right places. The soles are soft but not too spongy and the higher cut gives the ankle nice support. One thing I'll echo that some other's have said is that you should order 1 SIZE UP from your regular size. After reading other reviews I ordered a size 10 UK (whereas I'm normally size 9), and they fit perfectly. It seems Merrell make their shoes smaller than most manufacturers, but that doesn't affect their quality which is superb.

Comfortable walking boots that have coped well with the limited dog walking they have been subjected to so far. They are perhaps not quite as comfy as my old Asolo boots, but I don't think you can really go far wrong with the Gore-Tex/Vibram combination, and I did get them for a very decent price (£63).Update: Gave these their first serious work-out with a 9 mile trek around Man Tor. Assured grip both ascending a wet limestone bridleway and descending some muddy autumn footpaths. Also were very comfortable and regulated my foot temperature well. Upgraded to 5 stars as I cannot find fault.

Love these Boots! they feel like big fluffy pillows for my feet, and water proof. I have worn alot of boots in the last 35yrs (military and civilian) and these make me want to hike all day. Water proof? Make sure you get the Gore-Tex version of these boots. Have been using Gore-Tex for a very long time and its my go to fabric in wet and cold weather. The soles took about a week to break in with daily wear. I usually spend about a half hour (one short tv show) bending and flexing the sole to help break a boot in. These feel just like my Moab Ventalators but great weather protection.
