Petlife Karma Wrap – MEDIUM SizeI have two rescue dogs, both of whom are very adverse to the noise of guns, fireworks and similar sounds. "Amber", the mongrel has got better as she has got older (13yrs old next month), possibly because her hearing is not as sharp, nor her old doggy brain. "Maisy" the petite Irish Border Collie misses nothing and even the slightest noise makes her frightened. We live on the edge of a country town and there is often the sound of shots due to a shoot for rabbits, pheasants, grouse etc. Fireworks are an absolute nightmare and there is not one item that totally helps her.I have another make of Anxiety Wrap for them and there is a certain amount of success. This KARMA WRAP gives a much closer hug so I am hoping that this works really well when the time comes for the fireworks season (Halloween to New Year)• The Karma Wrap is very well presented in box which has plenty of information printed on it which is multilingual.• Inside the box is a multilingual leaflet which has the Fitting Instructions printed on it and illustrations as well.• On the reverse of the Fitting Instructions, there are Instructions for Use along with some very useful recommendations and advice. This company really do seem to care about our pets.• The British made Karma Wrap is well constructed. The Velcro Fastening is machined on, not glued and the edges of the Wrap are machine over locked.• The fabric is strong, but smooth and soft to the touch. There is a good amount of stretch in the material.• The Velcro sections are nice and long to give plenty of adjustment. In Use:-• I found that getting "Maisy", my main tester, to stand still for me was the hardest part. She is a bit of a fidget, even when putting on her harness. If you follow the instructions on the leaflet, you will soon find it easy enough to put the Wrap on your dog. "Amber" who is bigger than "Maisy" tried it on too and it also fitted her. "Amber" is a Greyhound x Alsatian x Staffie! The Size Guide as provided by Petlife is as follows:-Wrap Size Dog Chest Measurement behind top of Front LegsXS 13" – 18" (33 – 46cm)S 16" – 24" (40 – 62cm)M 22" – 28" (56 – 71cm)L 26" – 34" (66 – 86cm)XL 32" – 42" (81 – 106cm)In some behavioural circumstances (eg Separation Anxiety) as well as one of these Wraps, you might also need some help and guidance from an APD registered Animal Behaviourist or your Vet.At time of writing this Review, the RRP is £30.89. Products such as this do tend to command quite high prices; however this one seems to be better made than one of the others that I have tried. If it works, then it is money well spent.I will further update this Review during the firework season, when I can better judge the effect of it on "Maisy". I have deducted 1 star because of the price, however if it works well on her during the fireworks, I will up that rating.UPDATE - 5th November 2017Well, we have just suffered 2 nights of sporadic fireworks in the vicinity and I am delighted to say that this Karma Wrap has been an absolute godsend for "Maisy". I did not rely totally on the Karma Wrap as I gave her several, metered out, doses of Herbal Calming Tablets. I also put up the heavier winter curtains and put extra fabric in the form of fleece throws etc on top of the curtains, and against the insides of the front and back doors to dull/absorb the noise and it all worked. Usually she would be panting and very stressed and not able to settle and would not eat. This year she was BRILLIANT and tonight when I got the Karma Wrap out she walked over to have it put on, just as if she remembered it from last night. RESULT - so now upped the rating to 5 Stars!!Some pics added below of both "Amber" & "Maisy" trying the wrap on when it first arrived. The last 2 are of "Maisy" are wearing it on Saturday 4th Nov, just before fireworks started to erupt in the neighbourhood.

Despite terrifying the post man and just about every other dog we encounter on our walks, Ollie the Collie is a really nervous dog whose senses are particularly attuned to noise (such as the cat playing upstairs), our son walking across his bedroom and ultimately fireworks: in regard to the fireworks, a local school hosts an annual firework display each year and Ollie and I have to leave the house to a location a couple of miles away or we fear he might expire. The wrap is well made, albeit a bit on the expensive side I felt; constructed out of coated neoprene like material, the manufacturer claims that it is machine washable (which it should be) and whilst slightly too big for our border collie, his frame is big enough for him to accommodate the extra large model we have used. Fastening is velcro, which Ollie doesn't like, but he is becoming familiar with it and tolerates it now - he does jump out of the coat though when we release him as he hates the sound.Early days with this Karma wrap. Ollie is extremely intelligent and does not trust anything new and therefore following on from the instructions, we have familiarised Ollie with this item, placing dog treats on it as suggested, in order for him to become familiar with the scent of this item. We have progressed to the point of getting Ollie to wear this wrap for short period, but sadly Ollie is verging on neurotic and after 9 years, a wet day and a subsequent towelling is only now being tolerated - it is just the way he is.I am not sure how well this item will work, however, with three weeks to go until bonfire night we are persevering with him, there has been no noticeable reduction in his anxiety when he hears movement upstairs, whether he wears the wrap or not, however, it may be that his anxiety levels will decrease when he wears it for longer periods - we will have to see.+++FIRST UPDATE+++Ollie is a lot more familiar with having this wrap fitted each day - he seems to accept it in a resigned manner and then goes to sleep; which for a border collie, even a 9 year old one, is somewhat unusual. He routinely paces around our sitting room each evening until our son goes to bed and has done since he joined our family. He still is stimulated sufficiently to play, but we have noticed a difference in his behaviour at night. Sadly, if the cat runs across the bedroom floor above us, he still jumps up and barks, but fingers crossed, his behaviour might improve in time. No fireworks yet, but we do know that on the 3rd and 4th of November we are likely to "enjoy" our local school (boasts to have the biggest firwework party in Dorset and our local pub will be hosting a bonfire extravaganza. Certainly for the school event, I will have to take Ollie out as they match the rhetoric with a huge, prolonged and very noisy display, but we will try him with the pub's event as it is nowhere near as long or so loud.+++SEOND UPDATE+++BONFIRE PARTY PART 1The local pub situated in line of sight about 200 yards from where we live in rural Dorset held a bonfire party this evening - the party is pretty big and the firework display is delivered by a professional company and lasts for 15 minutes. It is very loud and initially Olle barked for about 5 seconds before we distracted him and he showed no further sign of distress. I am confident that the wrap contributed to him become g less distressed, indeed, we have had great difficulty in the past distracting him with food. 10 minutes after the displayed have removed the wrap and he is fast asleep by my feet; what a difference from previous years. Tomorrow is the big night with the largest display i Dorsetbeing held again about 400 metres as the crow flies distant. I am taking him out in the car, but not so far and we will see how he gets on.

My dog is a border collie/lurcher cross and she is a rescue dog. She is a very nervous dog and is especially anxious about loud and unexpected noises. Thunderstorms and fireworks are the worst and as we approach Guy Fawkes day I am trying to find ways of lessening her distress. The Karmawrap is based on the same idea as swaddling a baby. The gentle pressure experienced by your dog is like a hug and makes your dog feel safe and secure. It is important that you measure your dog and ensure you get the right size. If it is too loose, you will lose the swaddling effect and it will not work. Having said that, the wrap fastens with Velcro and is fairly adjustable so it is easy to get the snug fit required. The instructions advise that you introduce the wrap to your dog gradually over a period of time, and give the dog treats so that it associates it with good things. I didn't need to do this as my dog has previously had a Thundershirt which is a similar type of product. She also has a coat which she wears when the weather is wet. As a result she was unperturbed when I put the Karma Wrap on her and accepted it readily. She appeared to be quite comfortable in it. I have been putting it on her when she is left in the house on her own. She is rarely left alone and I am not aware of her being distressed when this happens, but like most dogs she prefers to have her owners with her. One note of warning - don't put the wrap on just before you leave the house or your dog will associate it with "bad things". Always put the wrap on well before you go out. The wrap is water-resistant, antibacterial and machine washable at 40% so it can be worn outdoors. Indeed, if your dog pulls on its lead, the wrap may calm it down and stop it pulling. Does the wrap work? it is very difficult to be 100% sure although I certainly believe it had some effect. The test will come on 5th November. As well as the wrap, I have started giving my dog Anxitane tablets and will continue to give her these tablets until the fireworks season has passed. I have also set up a den for my dog where she can hide when frightened. I bought an inexpensive dog bed and placed it under a small table in my husband's study. I then put a throw over the table. She is able to go in here and feel safe when the fireworks start. So I am using a range of methods to keep my dog as calm as possible. Hopefully the combination of products will work. Certainly the KarmaWrap is worth a try and it can be used over an over again and will last for a long time.

I ordered one of these to try on our skittish cat. We have builders working in the house at the moment and they will be here for at least another month. This really stresses the cat and she has started urinating in the hallway.I tried this in conjunction with feliway feline. The jacket fitted perfectly and was very easy to put on using Velcro to secure. Something very strange happened when she was wearing it. We put the coat on while she was lying on a wide arm of the sofa. Once on she completely froze and just toppled over the side like a statue and lay in a catatonic state, with her leg sticking up and not even trying to escape. Now I know this isn't funny, (i know, I really shouldn't laugh)but we had to stifle our giggles before retrieving her and placing her gently on the floor. When she tried to walk she kept toppling sideways and was walking as though we had tied her legs together. The coat is quite tight (and it is meant to be) but it is possible that it was actually restricting free movement and causing her to fall over. The coat has no mystique about it. The way it works is that your pet wears the coat and because it gives them a squeeze it feels like a cuddle. Like humans, dogs can feel reassured by a cuddle. I know for a fact that this really does help some dogs, I know a few people who have bought Thundercoat, a more expensive brand, to use around Bonfire Night. As far as I am aware this works on exactly the same principle. There is a possibility that on a very small dog or cat this actually squeezes the body too much and is very uncomfortable as it may put pressure on the lungs and abdomen, as well as restricting their ability to walk. On a larger dog you have much more room for the coat to fit comfortably without affecting the chest and of course a large stronger ribcage will protect them from too much of a squeeze. There is a possibility that this could make a very small dog too hot if left on unsupervised for too long. Our cat really hated it, but then this was never designed to be used on cats who hate being picked up and cuddled anyway. As I have heard really positive stories about these I do think it's definitely worth a try if your dog becomes very distressed in certain situations such as Bonfire night or other events where there are loud fireworks, or loud unfamiliar noises.Definitely worth a try. Maybe it isn't fair but I've had to remove a star because the cat became frozen and just fell over, but it may be a completely different effect on a dog.

This coat is designed to provide a cosseting feeling for your dog to help them feel less exposed and ‘hugged’ so that in times of stress they might be less inclined to panic and behave erratically. I got the Medium and Extra Small size as I wasn’t sure what size would be suitable for my little girl (she’s a Jack Russell crossed with an Australian Terrier). Whilst the marketing suggests that the Extra Small should be suitable for a Jack Russell, we just don’t know what size she may end up being. They state that the Medium should be suitable for a Dachshund but I’m sure I’ve seen that breed vary in size wildly, so who knows? The Extra Small is a fairly snug fit on her - but then I think that’s the point. She is a massive fidget at the best of times, so getting her into the coat was quite an ordeal. She is always full of energy and hyperactive, in spite of long walks and lots of play time, so we are monitoring things to see if having the coat on calms her down in any way at all.It is fastened with velcro and it is not in any way a substitute for using a harness or collar for you to attach a lead to.Time will tell if it has any lasting effect on her anxiety levels, but so far once she got past the initial freak-out of wearing it, she seems to be running around as normal with no obvious changes. Maybe she isn’t anxious, maybe she’s just nuts?

I own two dogs - one a Border Collie, who is quite big for his breed, and the other is a Jack Russell / Lakeland Terrier cross. The Border collie is six years old, and has always been a somewhat nervous and easily frightened dog. He is very scared of loud noises - especially fireworks, and when anyone rings the doorbell, he barks incessantly. The smaller dog reacts to the bigger dogs' anxiety, and joins in on the barking and hysteria erupts. When I was offered one of these 'Anxiety Coats', I thought I would give it a try to see if it has any effect. The USP of the Karma Wrap is that it is supposed to replicate the effect of giving the dog a reassuring hug. It is made of a stretchable man made fibre, and is secured in place via strips of velcro. When we first put the wrap on the bigger dog, he was not discomfited by having to wear it; it fits him fine (see pic), and when a delivery man arrived, where he would normally bark voluably, his barking was less, and more shorter in duration. This is still early days, but I am pleased so far. At the time of writing - 30th September - we are about to enter the worst of the 'fireworks' season - so I will see how he copes with the noise, and whether the wrap will ease his distress.

In the same vein as the Thundershirt, the 'Karma Wrap Anxiety Coat, Large' is a British-made pet product which aims to calm stressed/distressed dogs by means of a compression vest. The vest is made from grey neoprene-type material, and has velcro straps which are long enough to allow it to fit fairly wide size ranges (26"-34" chest for the Large size). As the entire premise depends upon the vest being a snug fit, this is very important (you must measure your dog around the chest before ordering, this Large size fits our collie but there is significant variation in size even within breeds). Our dog is a little resistant to having anything done to her, but is happy to wear the Karma Wrap once its on.She is highly-strung and tends to be a bit of a nuisance barker, so we were keen to test if this would prove soothing to her. I was sceptical but it does actually seem to be having an effect, and doing so without making her excessively hot, which was a concern as she has a thick coat. The packaging does state that the product is effective in 85% of cases, and they offer a money-back guarantee within 45 days if you are not happy, so it is definitely worth a try if your dog suffers from anxiety issues.

I highlyrecommend the karmawrap! My dog suffers from seperation aniexty, very anxious, & gets scared easy by certain noises (hes a rescue). I tried everything to help settle and calm him a bit, i brought a thunder shirt, and the amount you pay for one, it wasnt worth it, within a week the velcro was coming apart, and fabric was so thin. I didnt know whatelse to do, after a bit of googling and ebaying 'aniexty dogs' i came across the karmawrap, after alot of research, i thought why not try it, & i highly recommended the karmawrap! It wraps right around the dogs body, and crosses over at the neck/shoulders to keep it in place, the material is lovely and thick, its amazing quailty!!& the velcro is alot more quailty then the thunder shirts. It stays on your dog!! And it works!! About 5 mins it takes to settle my dog once its on, the the nervous and anxious goes away! Its amazing! & i am so glad i came across this! It really does work, and perfect in time for firework night! My boy has it on 5 hours a day. Its been a massive and incredible improvement to him. So much calm and relax when i go and come home!! Thank You!Read full review...

The large was too big for my dog and I don't know if that's the reason that he couldn't bound up the stairs as usual. Although the wrap didn't appear to be restricting him in any way, he acted as if his back legs were stuck together and when I took the coat off, he was back to normal.I've previously used a large scarf as a "hug wrap" when there's fireworks outside and that has helped to calm him down. There's a certain way to tie it so the knot doesn't put pressure on the spine. I think this anxiety coat will work in the same way even if it is on the big side. It goes on easily and my dog accepted it without a fuss. He didn't try to take it off either. It feels soft and comfortable and because there are no buckles or buttons, nothing will dig into him when he lies down.Bonfire night, Diwali and New Year's Eve are his nights of doom so I have to wait before I can test the effectiveness but so far I think it will help him.The product description online doesn't have a size guide so kudos to the reviewer who has put a photo of the measurements up. Use that to see which size will work for your dog.

We've tried this Karma Wrap Anxiety Coat (XL) on a German Shepherd who most of the time is self confident but can be a bit p[phobic of travelling in the car. The first impression is that this is a well made product although fitting takes a bit of getting used to but after a couple of uses that becomes second nature. The fit is good and I can see how the wrap round nature of the coat could help a dog feel more secure, however, the positive thing is that it is lightweight a breathable and doesn't feel like a restraint in the traditional "dog sense". Buddy wears this in the car and it does seem to make him less fidgety and anxious although once outside he sometimes rubs the coat on trees etc.I'd say it does this coat does help with his behaviour in the car.Other things I like about this coat are that it's easy to care for and breathable when on plus, if it matters to you, the coat looks quite stylish. I think its overall efficacy will depend on the personality and insecurities of the dog concerned. if there are any further observations I'll update this review in due course.

We have one of these in a stretch cotton version and our Saluki-X loves it.This one is definitely for a LARGE DOG...a VERY large dog.It works by wrapping it around your dog so they feel comforted when distressed. Ours is a rescue and we've used our smaller version lots since we got her...(in the house not outside)This version is more rubbery? Plasticy? ..the sort of fabric you'd expect furniture or a handbag to be made of...Dogs don't actually like to be 'hugged' so I wouldn't say that was an accurate selling point, but there is something they like about being enclosed in fabric (ours likes being enveloped in her bed-covers...) so maybe that's part of it.HOWEVER the composition, which isn't anywhere on the packaging doesn't actually state what the material/fabric is.Vinyl? There is NO WAY this is a breathable fabric...(the one we have already is, but this one certainly isn't)It's slightly stretchy but very thick, lightweight and nylon....so consequently it feels very strange to hold...so I can't actually imagine any dog actually liking to wear this version!

I ordered this last night as I knew bonfire night (weekend) would start tonight.Every year My now 5yr old border collie climbs the walls at the slightest bang and I dread bonfire weekend and NY.She pants, clambers over and under furniture and wont be hugged, wont take treats and its heartbreaking that we cannot make it all go away for her.I decided to put it on her this lunch time long b4 the scarey noises so she wouldn't associate it with fear. All I hoped was she would be less stressed. What happened is we went for her walk and she didn't pull the lead for the 1st time ever! She is normally fear aggressive if dogs crowd her but today she ran over to 2 big labs and rolled on her back for them!OKAY 2 unexpected pleasant suprises so far.Right now the firework bangs are in full flight. I would like to say she is not bothered but I didn't expect that given how terrified she gets. She is wondering from room to room but not climbing the walls or quite as stressed as usual. she followed me to the kitchen when I suggested a treat.will update if i can over weekend.

I'm always sceptical about this type of item but as we were due to look after a rescue dog until it was permanently re-homed (elderly owner died) I thought i'd give this a go as Buster is known to be overanxious. It was remarkably effective. Essentially it's a big hug that is meant to reassure the dog and prevent behaviours that are due to anxiety or overstimulation. The medium size we had fitted the Springer we were fostering, although that was more luck than management, without an effective sizing guide it is difficult to say what size will fit a particular breed of dog - maybe they need to go by chest circumference? It is very well made and finished. The material is flexible and waterproof and very easy to clean; it's also claimed to be ant-bacterial. Attachment and securing is by means of velcro fasteners. You can't attach a lead to it, but this does fit under a body harness, if you're walking the dog on a lead. I expected this not to work, but it did and it worked well with Buster settling into our menagerie very quickly.

This product has worked wonders! We have a very nervy rescue dog (Labrador) who really struggles with noises, traffic, fireworks etc. She is an anxious dog, and when she gets frightened she cries and runs around, looking for somewhere to hide. I got this Karma Wrap Anxiety Coat, and I am SO glad that I did. November is not a good month for poor Izzy, as fireworks are constantly heard, so I put her Karma Wrap on, and the difference was incredible! Not only did she stop crying and barking, she lay down and slept! The coat is easy to fit, and we had no problems putting it on, and taking it off. I think it is like a giant hug, reassuring and making Izzy feel safe. It really did make an immediate difference, and considering that fireworks have been heard from the very beginning of the month, Izzy is coping really well with the aid of her Karma Wrap. I can't praise this product highly enough - it is durable, is padded and sits beautifully on the dog. For Izzy (and us) this is abrilliant item, that really works! Highly recommended.

Our daughter’s dog (staying with us while she’s away) is fairly confident, but can react badly to loud noises, so this is a perfect item to make him feel "loved" when this anxiety happens. They are doing some overnight work on the railway behind us overnight; as it's not during daylight hours, he is not sleeping well due to noise at the wrong time, so rather than comforting him all night we tried this instead, and it worked a treat. It fitted him well, after the initial confusion; the instructions were very clear, and the second time it went on a dream. The velcro straps are easy to close and so far they have not come adrift. It is made of a lovely material, and is light in weight; he does not seem to get overheated when wearing it, so I am assuming it is breathable as claimed, although it does feel like vinyl. If you have a dog that is prone to anxiety this, for us, appears to be a brilliant way of keeping them calm; the test will come at the beginning of November.
