My 7kg cat is scratching his head to the extent he was ripping off fur & skin, making wounds bleed. Vet diagnosed him with Atopic Dermititis & he went home with steroids, antibiotics & a plastic transparent Elizabethan collar. He was adopted as a stray & came to me with a severe cataract in one, misaligned jaw with distrust of males, caused by someone kicking him in his face! He is blind in one eye due to the cataract & the plastic Elizabethan collar restricted his view so much so that he kept bumping into everything as he tried to move around the house. It was at this point I found the Comfy Collar & it has been a godsend! My main concern was that his claws could puncture the inflated collar. However, as you can see from the attached photo, he only manages to scratch through the top green layer & not the whole way through meaning this is extremely durable given that he has had the collar 5 months!Initially, I was naive in how to position this collar on him & he managed to get to his wounds, with the logo on the Velcro strap positioned at the back of his head.I turned the collar around so the logo on the Velcro strap is below his chin & now the collar works in stopping him scratching his head.He is a smart cat though, working out how to get the collar off by using the base of the computer chair to slide it off. I put this down to the fact the size 2 (small size) collar being too big for him & I'm now buying a size smaller to give a tighter fit, which was my fault.I highly recommend this collar for cat owners and suggest people persevere in working out how best to position the collar and buy the correct by measuring their pet's neck.

I think the success or failure of this collar mostly comes down to the nature of the animal's injury.I've used these successfully with three cats with >head< wounds, which is the key element, none of the cats normally wear a collar. A cat will be able to lick their nether and lower stomach regions (so it's useless for post-neutering) as well as their front and rear paws.Given the design, the advantage of these over the traditional cone of shame is that a cat can see and eat and sleep far more easily. They do waddle about and bump into things at first, because of course their whiskers are obscured and they can't gauge distance, but although they may never "like" wearing it,they will adapt. And the head wound will heal.Incidentally I find that these are perfectly washable: remove the bladder and hand or machine wash the cover. I tend to have a clean one to hand in case of accidents, such as cat dunking collar into wet food.Edit: Just wanted to add that I don't over inflate the bladder. In fact I keep it fairly squishy, say 80% inflated, and then all the adjustment comes via the use of the velcro closure. In my experience you want it tight enough, with no gap in either side of the ring, with the ability to still get your fingers under the collar to scritch your cat's neck for them. They will appreciate a bit of under-collar massaging. ;-)

I bought this for my 5kg cat and it fits brilliantly. He has a wound on his shoulder and I needed to stop him attacking it-tried a cone of shame but it was hard for him to eat and drink and I could tell he wasn't happy in it. The comfy collar has been perfect-he has worn it for the last 5 days and because his head pokes out fully he can eat, drink, sleep and even wash (some parts). If your pet needs to be prevented from licking a castration site or their feet, then this won't work but he can't possibly reach his shoulder with this on so it's doing its job. The other plus point is that this product requires no existing collar-my cat doesn't wear a collar so this would have been additional expense. It is easy to put on-I see that some other products must be forced over their head but this one fastens round the neck like a collar. I was going to order XS as it appeared this was the appropriate size for cats but was glad I reconsidered as the S size fits a large cat perfectly. As I say, it's been on 5 days and in that time there have been no escape-related mishaps. The velcro is very strong and also makes the collar highly adjustable. This one would fit a larger cat as well as a range of small dogs. He even goes outside in it and, although he probably feels a bit self-conscious, he gets around fine and has good all-round vision.

The Thrive Comfy Collar is an inflatable collar – a bit like a swimming ring for humans - which can be attached to a pets existing name/licence collar and then clipped around its neck and secured with a velcro strap to prevent scratching, pulling out stitches/staples, dressings etc after accidents or surgery. Allowing freer movement and not obscuring vision it is an excellent alternative to the plastic Elizabethan collar (lampshade) routinely supplied by vets. It is available in 5 sizes from XS to XL depending on the size of animal it is needed for.I bought the large size for our collie/lab cross following his rear leg cruciate ligament surgery as he was starting to lick at the stapled wound and, given that he was on cage rest, the lampshade had caused him too much distress in the confined space. While he liked the Comfy Collar and could sleep, eat and drink his water while wearing it we found that he soon figured out how to reach his wound despite the collar which was disappointing as it was otherwise perfect. It is an excellent, well-made product but, based on my experience, it would only be completely effective if the animal’s wound/dressing etc. was above hip level in dogs with a similar snout length to a lab, collie, German Shepherd. On that basis I would rate the Thrive Comfy Collar as 4*.

Our 10 month old labrador had a traditional opaque cone provided by the vet after an operation. He became extremely distressed when wearing it and struggled to get a good sleep (as did we!). Due to an infection he needed to wear it for an extra 10 days so we looked for something more comfortable for him.The comfy collar was a great success. Not only did it allow him to maintain all his peripheral vision, it actually worked as a pillow for him. I agree with other posters that it really depends how flexible your dog is and how long their body is as to whether this works or not. At this price we were prepared to take the risk and for our lab it worked a treat. He could reach his back legs to lick but couldn't get to the area around his tummy where the stitches were. At first he was interested in trying to chew it and we worried he may puncture the inflatable ring but he soon got used to it and after 10 days still no holes!I would definitely recommend this as more comfortable than the cone of shame but bear in mind it will depend where the affected area is on your dog and how long their body is as to whether it is appropriate. Handy bonus - we may take it to the beach with him for when he's swimming as it looks like a rubber ring!!

I purchased this after my puppy returned from the vets with one of those horrid lampshade collars and was extremely distressed. He would not move in it and just stood in the same spot with his head down and whimpering. This went on for hours. In the end I took the risk and removed it praying he would not lick his stitches. I ordered this by express delivery but to be fair did not arrive as quick as I thought and probably would have arrived just as quick via normal delivery. That does not mean to say I was not happy with my purchase. My Jack Russell Pup was all tails wagging with this one. It was easy to inflate and he even sat down to have it put on. He slept peacefully in it and looked really comfortable.I experienced no problems with him at all with this collar. He could still continue to do all his other activities such as eating etc as normal. I highly recommend this product and have already done so to a friend who's Pup will be due surgery in a few months. Just wish I'd have bought it beforehand but never knew they existed till I saw one on a dog at the vets. I then thought 'Amazon' and luckily enough I found one. Well worth the money and easily deflated to put away for use again.

I’m writing this review as we think we can truly say that the Comfy collar was essential for our medium sized short-haired moggie. She was clearly unable to eat or sleep in the collar the vet issued and while the velcro fastening replacement we bought was better, the Comfy collar proved to definitely be a vastly superior design. Sizzy ended up having to wear the collar for about a month but she was fine getting about the house (the collar doesn’t jab into her shoulder like the cone style would) and eating (we generally took it off and supervised her during her main meals, but she figured out how to eat by herself and its wipe clean if she did get any gravy or jelly on it)and sleep (it’s a portable pillow after all) and of course, lie in a sunbeam. We slightly underinflated the collar (so it was firm when squeezed rather than hard) and found it easier to unzip the outer cover to blow it up rather than trying to get the valve through the pre cut hole and given a choice we would have preferred a nicer colour than battlefield green, but we could easily get the collar on and off her and we think we would all have had a much tougher time without it. Heartily recommended.

Totally fed up with the awful cone collars, I thought I'd give this type a try after my GSD had been castrated. The first thing is that ours was impossible to inflate by mouth, my husband had to use a bicycle pump.Collar fitted my dog well, he had the large - however he is only 17 months and is fairly narrow in the neck so I'm glad I measured him first. Although the collar seemed to do the trick with my dog, I would think that a more determined GSD would still be able to get to his groin area. My dog was not in the least bothered by what was going on down there but I know from experience that some dogs will not leave their bits alone and if this had been the case with ours,I think this collar would have failed. It is a great improvement on the old type collars but probably better suited to a dog with a shorter nose, or for use with an injury quite high up on the body.Updated 26 Aug 2014 - My dog managed to get his collar off during the night and although he hasn't bothered with his wound, it could have been a different outcome. There is an option to fix this to a proper collar and perhaps this is the way to go, especially if your dog has a slim head.

I think that this is the best invention ever , I hate seeing the plastic cones and putting the plastic cones on my dog from the vets, cats and dogs absolutely hate them, they do anything to get them off, and they are so difficult to put together no wonder animals get stressed out, this product , the comfy collar however is different and is fantastic, takes all the hassle and stress away , and makes it so stress free for your animal , the only thing I would say, is it might not be that effective on dogs that have long , slender legs as they might still be able to reach the wound if the wound is on their leg, so this might suit smaller animals ,or will still suit if a wound is any where else other than on their leg so please don't be put off buying this as it really is so much better than the plastic cones you get from your vets , and my dog felt so much happier having this comfy collar on , so if my dog is happier then so am I , fantastic invention, well done for making our lives easier especially in these stressful times , thank you .

I was worried that it wouldn't arrive in time for our pooch's surgery (I left it a bit late in ordering) but it arrived in plenty of time. Our pooch is sensitive to touch, like wearing a harness (she just stands there with it on) so I was worried about putting it on her so we tested it on her before hand (see photo). We had to chase her round the room to get it off her.I had read other reviews as I was worried about what size to buy as she has a 12inch collar, it was advised to to get the next size up (as she is borderline of the longest length of the small size) this is a medium size. She can still run about, play, sleep and eat with it on, although she does find it hard to have scratch her neck.As she is a small dog we have a cat flap for her to go out but this collar does stop her from going through it. It is easy to inflate and fasten (with Velcro). I would recommend this to anyone. The only thing I don't like is the colour, dark green, I would have preferred a choice of colours, but hey it does the job and better than a cone.

Our dog got attacked by another dog and had a wound up on the inside of this front leg, in what would be the equivalent to our armpit. Although he could get to the lower half of his body, he could not get to the wound, as the inflated collar was in the way. He had been wearing a Victorian Collar, but it was restrictive on him eating and drinking, and being able to see all around him; plus, he kept bashing the damn thing on everything, including our legs. Once we put this collar on him, he even able to rest his chin on it and because of the wound site, we had to keep his movement to an absolute minimum, otherwise the wound would have opened up. This Comfy Collar was a godsend. Would recommend wholeheartedly, but if your animal's wound is on the lower half of their body, they "might" be able to reach it, despite the collar, our dog couldn't, because of the wound site being on the upper inside of his front leg. However, maybe more inflation might help negate the animal being able to reach, but I can't say for definite.

Excellent buy for dogs who are scared of regular cones. Our Frenchie was as happy as a clam when we traded his cone for this one - didn't mind wearing it a bit, as he HATES regular cones with a passion so he must have been so relieved for the upgrade. He does look a bit daft in it though - he comes to work with us and people are always asking what it is (it's not really apparent that it's a type of cone) so we've taken to making things up. The stories we've come up with so far:1: He was in a car crash and got whiplash2: He can't swim and he keeps falling into puddles and whatnot so he has to wear this flotation device all the time as a precaution3: Oversize collars are in fashion this yearOne star taken off as the inner-tube (vinyl inflatable)got a tiny tiny tiny hole near the seam which slowly lets the air out over 2-3 hours, and is near impossible to patch as very few things like to stick to vinyl, and also the zipper broke off after a few months (wearing it on and off as needed).

This was a godsend for my Border Terrier. I recently had him neutered and he came home with an e-collar - the cone of shame - he absolutely hated it and after an hour I took it off him as he was so miserable. He wouldn't eat or drink or even move with it on in fact it was scraping along the floor. I then had to supervise 24/7 him to stop him licking his wound which meant staying up all night to watch him. I ordered this and although he wasn't best pleased when I first put it on after a short while he got used to it and seemed to hardly notice it. He was able to eat and drink as normal - he had a bit of difficulty sleeping at first as he didn't know where to put his head but eventually he just crashed and the collar supported his head.I'm not saying this would be suitable for all dogs - particularly long snouted ones as he can still reach his back paws but can't reach his 'bits, so it worked fine for us'. I ordered a medium which is just about right for a Border Terrier weighing 10kg.

I ordered this for my dog after her spay as she was so unhappy in the buster collar the vets issued and kept crashing into things ultimately cracking the collar. She was so much happier immediately with the cosy collar as it was not constantly in her line of sight and she was no longer crashing into things.I was a bit disappointed with the quality but I wonder if I was just unlucky as the material/stitching gave way and she was able to pull through the end of the zip through a hole in the material. I did just keep tucking it back in though and it did survive the 2 weeks she had to wear it for.I did find the rubber ring seemed to lose air over time and every now and again I had to reinflate itas she could actually reach her wound but luckily by time this started happening it was healing quite well.Despite the negative points I would still purchase again if required as she was so much happier with this collar and it did more or less do the job.

This collar is just wonderful. My dog had to have his tail removed due to a tumor at its base. He had 14 stitches and needed not to be able to lick or bite the wound. My vet put a terrible plastic cone on his head which made it difficult for him to eat or sleep well. This collar was a godsend. Its soft and gentle and covers his neck enough so that he can't reach his wound but leaves his head totally free to eat and sleep and move around freely. It doesn't seem to realize its even on due to its lightness and comfort. I would highly recommend this collar for any dog who needs it. Its the best thing I've ever tried and my dog is so much happier. It was mailed to me quickly and efficiently so I would also recommend that you buy it from them as well.I ordered another type of collar for my dog to also try and its been over two weeks and it hasn't appeared. When it does I will return it because what I have now is perfect..
