After a recent break-in one of my two cats started acting a bit schizt and developed behavioural problem - no doubt due to stress. He started constantly meowing and prowling around, back and forth, like a caged bear sent crazy in a Chinese or Eastern European zoo.He also started defecating on the floor around the house which, as well as being gross, was pretty embarrassing when I had friends round. This is called 'middening' and is a sign your cat is uneasy in its home. Basically the break-in and the intruder had left him stressed and he was displaying all the classic symptoms.Seeing my moggy upset, was upsetting for me too, so I called a friend of mine who is a vet and she told me about this stuff,Feliway's Calming Diffuser, and I have to say it's worked a treat. It's a bit like Prozac for cats and releases calming kitty-cat pheromones into the air helping your feline to chill.Ike stopped pooing around the house almost immediately and the prowling stopped a few days later - he still meows at me quite a but, but a lot less than he did even before the break-in; and he's a Bengal so they're a very vocal bread anyway. All in all, both of us are very happy with the affect its had on our household. It seems to have calmed him right down. Not only that, I have been able to get a decent nights sleep for once too.A good nights sleep is something I've not been able to enjoy since I got my two cats as both of them have always slept slap-bang in the middle of my bed making it hard for me to move about and get comfy. But since the introduction of the diffuser they've only slept on my bed once or twice - I'm guessing this is because they now prefer to sleep in the living room where the Feliway is.The diffuser itself works like one of those Airwick Plug-in air freshener devices and simply slots into your wall plug. The design is perhaps a bit unsightly, and its bigger and bulkier than a plug-in air freshener but it isn't too bad. They could have made the grill white thought rather than the horrid kind of sepia brown which they chose - this gives it a kind of old, brittle look. The refills simply screw in the bottom and last about 4 weeks. However, they're not cheap and this is why I'm knocking off a star.I feel that the Feliway Diffuser is a great product that works well, but it is extortionately priced. The cheapest I have been able to find it is around 13 quid (that includes delivery) if I buy them in bulk from a place called Animed, here on Amazon. I find it makes sense to order these 3 or 4 at a time otherwise you risk defaulting on your mortgage and not having a house to plug them in to. I bought it from Animed here on Amazon and the my refills were waiting for me at work the next day.

Our 2 year old cat has recently developed a habbit of urinating in the house (goodbye £60 living room rug!). Used a ton of urine-eliminating pet cleaning products to remove it, deterants, even catnip and feeding him near the rug but none of these things seemed to work. We would have the rug cleaned (not an easy process as it's 100% wool!) and he would go right back to peeing on it. It was pretty hopeless. Even had some 'calming' herbal tablets from the vets to de-stress him but the poor thing just ended up looking lethargic all the time so didn't carry them on.We banished the rug to the shed but he then started peeing on the furniture and in other places around the living room.I doubted Feliway would work as it as so expensive and I'd heard from a friend that it didn't really work. However, we were desperate and thought we'd give it a go.We plugged it in and immediately noticed that his recent jumpiness (likely caused by other cats coming in through the catflap) seemed to really receed and he seemed a lot happier in himself; purring more, sleeping peacefully and generally being a lot less jumpy. The urinating also seemed to stop, if not immediately at first. The refills don't last too long and can be very expensive, but trust me - it's worth the money for a pee-free home! We usually buy refils before we go away as it really does tend to reduce stress.I did find that the Feliway Spray works even better than the plug in, or maybe just that it works in conjunction with it. After having a success with the plugin, I decided to be bold and bring the newly cleaned rug in one more time before resigning it to the skip.I turned on the plugin (as he had calmed enough that I turn it on an off to prevent it running out) and sprized the rug with the Feliway Spray. It's been down for nearly 2 months and -voila!!-no pee!! We haven't been able to use this rug since he was a kitten and now both cats sit happily on the rug and we have our new, clean living room back. Can't recommend Feliway enough, have only given one star due to the expense (though this is the fault of the manufacturer and not the seller of course, this is actually a cheap price for it) and the fact that the Spray is even better as it's more targeted. However, if your cat is stressed or jumpy, or you have other cats in your neighbourhood that are bothering it, I would definitely give it a go. It's a God-send!

on Friday my cat had a hernia op and was neutered at the same time, I brought him home with the 'cone of doom' or E collar to put on him to stop him from licking wounds and trying to pull his stitches out. so after a couple of hours once his anesthetic wore off a bit (he was totally out of it) I attached his collar which he did not take kindly too, he was like a buckaroo throwing himself around trying to get it off which he did eventually. after another couple of similar attempts in which he became very distressed and terrified of us he managed to keep it on for the night but was miserable as sin and really not our friend. the same happened on Saturday and again yesterday morning he somehow managed to pop it off AGAIN??!!.trying to catch him and pick him up was a nightmare he'd scratch, bite, scream and eventually get loose just as the cone was nearly over his head which had me in tears, I couldn't cope with this continuing for another 8 days!!. I'd phoned the vet a few times hoping for an alternative but was told the collar had to go on for and ideally for the 10 days until his stitches came out. I had looked into this product when we first got him as a kitten because he was very timid and shy but he eventually settled in and I'd decided it probably wouldn't work anyway. well I was totally wrong it is AMAZING! we plugged it in the sitting room, where he was now hiding behind the sofa, with the door shut and after a few hours he was chillin out on the mantle piece and letting me stroke him he was still a bit cautious but not terrified anymore. we thought its now or never so my man grabbed him and with a minimal wriggle initially he let me put on his collar, there was no jumping around or walking backwards he just tolerated it. within a few hours he was a purring happy cat lolling on the sofa where he remained for the night. this morning I went down stairs dreading finding an unhappy cat again but he trotted up to me purring and went straight to his food. got home after work today and he's still purring. we are totally blown away by this product and would highly recommend. praying he'll stay 'high' until next week when the stitches come out.

I have two cats, one four years and another 3 years of age. I've had a problem with the 3 year old since about 6 months after I got her. She under went major surgery as a four month old kitten and since then has been quite nervous, only trusting me, and urinating on the bed.Initially I though it was linked to her surgery but the urinating didn't stop after she recovered. I discussed this with my vet who said it was probably just misbehaviour and to keep her out of the bedroom - which is difficult with a spritely young cat! a About a year after surgery I took her to be spayed after I switched vets. This vet said she had loads of cysts on her ovaries which was probably causing the urinating. She did stop urinating on the bed but remained quite nervous.I moved house a year later and the urinating on the bed began again. After visiting my new vet to get them registered and vaccinated I asked about the problem. The vet said this sounded as though she was marking as it wasn't just a small amount of urine being passed which is a symptom of infection. I asked whether Feliway would work after seeing the advert on TV and she suggested to try it and to see what happens.I've been using the Feliway diffuser for approximately 6 Months now and the urinating has stopped! (Hurrah!) My other cat used to be nervous also and miaow all the time but this has stopped too and they're both much much calmer and happier.I ran out of Feliway recently and surpise-surprise the urinating started again. I only had the spray whilst I was waiting for the refill to be delivered but it didn't work - although the spray has stopped the clawing of the sofa!I would strongly suggest giving it a try if you are thinking about it. My four year old cat also hyperventilates when going to the vet so I now spray his carrier with Feliway which calms him.

We've have a lot of work done on the house recently, which means there's been a lot of people coming and going, and a lot of noise and strangeness going on, and our poor indoor cat (her choice - not mine!) has found her nerves somewhat frayed by it all.Over the last 6 weeks or so, she's become clingy, cried a lot, became an almost impossibly faddy eater, hid almost constantly and started vomiting almost daily. Vet's verdict was nerves (given everything else going on) and that a Feliway Diffuser, while a little expensive, would sort her right out. I was lucky - the price of this one had dropped by 50% so I snapped it up right away.It was a little slow to arrive, and the box contains one diffuser and one vial of the pheromone stuff (don't buy more until you've given it a couple of weeks), which are easy to assemble. Then you plug it in and forget about it. We were a little aware of the smell at first - it's a kind of citrus, acidic, not unpleasant smell - but either it dispersed or we got used to it.We plugged it in upstairs, in my bedroom, but within about 20 minutes we noticed a difference in the cat. She stopped hiding and came to lie down right in the middle of the living room floor. Ten minutes after that, she was asking to play and rolling about like a kitten, purring and making her silly "Play with me!" sounds. Two weeks on, and she's back to "normal" (I don't believe cats are ever truly normal, just back to her normal kind of oddness) - even the faddy eating and vomiting have stopped. She's still a bit flighty when there's a knock at the door, but she no longer stays hidden away all day and it otherwise much more engaged and relaxed with my son and I, which is lovely.I would have happily paid the full price for this little vial of magic, and have bought 2 refills already.

I bought this diffuser because we were going away for just a couple of days and I didn't want the cats to be too anxious while we were gone. A very short time after I plugged it in I noticed our little fellow looking very very contented indeed! He's normally very happy anyway, but he looked a bit different this time; just VERY at peace and very restful and like he was luxuriating in...something! (Hormones I guess!) The same fellow is a big talker usually and I would even go so far as to say that he may be talking less. He's only had one really extended natter since we came back six days ago; normally he chirrups and calls and mouths off a few times a day (can get a bit much sometimes, to be honest).I haven't noticed much change in the other cat, but he holds his cards close to his chest and gives little away, so he can be difficult to read. I have noticed some aggression between the cats (no moreso than usual), so I must add that it is not a cure all or a quick fix by any means: Cats will be cats...The only reason I've given it four stars is because I don't really know if I can unlug it and put the lid on the bottle and tidy it away for another time; or if I have to use up an entire bottle once it's been opened. I guess I could email the company and ask, but since they will want me to buy as many bottles as possible, I suspect I know what they will say. Perhaps the only way to find out is to try? If any other reviewers have any answers, I would appreciate your help.Anyway, in short, if you are having a problem with your cat, or if you just want peace of mind through any changes or brief absences, definitely give this a go; I think it is worth it.

I bought this on the advice of our vet to specifically to treat what we suspected to be anxiety in one of my cats that presented as patches of fur thinning and over-grooming (after the vet had confirmed that there was nothing medically wrong with her). I was originally quite skeptical, originally presuming this was 'homeopathy for pets', and we had tried the feliway spray in the past to tackle her anxiety with travel with no success. I was really pleased to start seeing a difference in my cat's behavior in less than 2 weeks we started to use this! She became more playful again with both us and her cat-brother, and the fur began to grow back. We've been using this for about 6 months now,and although it has run out before we've had time to replace it (no more than a week) it is still doing it's job.The only downside is that you ideally need these in every room the cat spends a significant amount of time in. Our downstairs area is large and open plan, and if my 1 year old daughter is playing downstairs, my cat still keeps her distance, so instead we put it in our bedroom where both cats like to nap during the day. So although they are not in the room at night, the time during the day our cats spend in that room seems adequate enough for them to feel the benefit. This is safe to use around babies and children (as confirmed by my vet when we informed him we had an infant daughter) and there is no scent or odour. It is expense, but buying from Amazon instead of the vets is much cheaper. It's good to know that my cat is less stressed out now as a result of this.

I can't say for sure if its working but our cat does seem less stressed after about 9 days using this product. Price alone its worth trying, in Pets at Home its £35 so about half price if bought on here. And refills are about half price too, so amazingly good value! Only way you can tell its on and working is that it will heat up. We will buy a refil after a month as that is how long it is supposed to last approximately.UPDATEOur first Feliway diffuser ran out after 3 weeks. We were expecting 4 weeks like advertised and all we did was plug it in and turn it on so real world expect 3 weeks use. We found our cat stopped pulling out his fur while we had this plugged in,now he's back to doing it so will be ordering a refill.UPDATE 20/3/15Bought 2 more refills this week while they were £12.99 but now this plug-in diffuser is smoking after 10mins when it heats up. It smells 'hot' and burning and there is a smoke vapour you can see after 20mins. After unplugging and leaving to cool and trying again we are definitely not using it anymore and am looking to get a replacement.UPDATE 20/3/15Contacted Amazon via chat and they issued a replacement straight away with no quibble and fast delivery. Well done Amazon for that! The replacement is working fine and i returned the faulty one to them with their freepost return label they issued. Been using the replacement one for 4 days and no hint of any smoke or burning smell and cats seem more chilled out which is great for the one that's quite ill.

My partner and I recently adopted a 10 year old cat, she’s used to running away from everything and is super skittish. She hides when she cans and runs when she can. It’s been difficult for me to develop trust with her because she only comes out when there’s no noise.I was at my wits end with her because she started scratching vertically on the skirtings during the night while no one was around, although I knew she was doing this because she was stressed.Decided to try feliway and get her some distractions - scratching boards and toys (nightmare because she doesn’t use scratch posts AT ALL, we had to teach her to use the board after feliway). The pheromones kicked in IMMEDIATELY, as seen in the picture, she was relaxed and chilling in the middle of the living room.I’ve been using it for a month and she has just been an absolute angel, she doesn’t scratch anymore and she’s so friendly. She meows all the time, sits on my lap and loves getting petted. When the Feliway was all used up, she started behaving unsettled again, hiding and avoided pats, she even ate less.So we stocked up and she’s chilled out again. Eats like a pig.My only issue with this product is that it gets hot at the plug and it does not last a month. If you don’t let your cat roam free through out the house, you might have some issues, our cat started scratching and meowing to get into the living room at night where the plug in was.We just kept her roam free now, worry free of scratching :)

We have 2 rescue cats who are really laid back and well behaved, especially great with kids.On Saturday we adopted an 8 week old small puppy and things have been extremely frosty, surprisingly the more laid back of the 2 has take it worse and went from being a complete cuddle cat who will lay in my arms like a baby to a hissing, nervous and aggressive cat. Puppy is also pretty laid back and hasn’t bothered them much at all but my female cat only has to smell her scent and starts hissing.I was feeling really sad and came across this product on a google search and thought it was worth a try.I plugged it into the living room, I was sceptical. You can’t see it doing anything or smell it but within an hour or so the affected cat was actually in the same room as the dog and not really having a reaction, interesting. We are now around 36 hours in and the change in her has been remarkable. She will still give a little hiss if the puppy gets too close but she has visibly relaxed, is asking for cuddles and I am currently laid on the sofa with puppy on my chest and cat on my lap which I never thought would happen 48 hours ago.I’m not sure they will ever be the best of friend and yes it’s not cheap but it’s worth it for a peaceful household and happy animals. Infact the cats look like they’ve been smoking something funny. Very chilled indeed!Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this product and would also try the dog version if I ever needed to.Very pleased!

A couple of years ago we went away on holiday putting the cat in her usual cattery for her mini holiday, she had been there loads of times before and always enjoyed it. This time we were told that she wasn't happy and managed to scare one of the more timid members of staff. We didn't really think anything of it until a few weeks later she started to over groom herself, within a few days she had a bold flank, so off to the vet who ran some tests and found nothing wrong so suggested that maybe something had changed and she was stressed. The only thing we could think of was the recent stay at the cattery. The vet suggested some feliway, so we looked and our jaws almost dropped at the price in the vet,a quick check on Amazon and the price was half the amount! So we purchased 2 and set them up both downstairs and upstairs.Within a day there was a noticeable difference in the cat, she was friendly anyway but as most female cats this was always on her terms only! But this stuff made her so much more placid and friendly, she started rolling around and lying on her back again demanding her belly be rubbed and the grooming pretty much stopped, but her hair loss was so great that it only came back as a small amount of very fine hair. Each Feliway ran for about 1 month but as she spent most of her time upstairs we only replaced the one unit every time it ran out.I always thought it was hype seeing the ads for it, but yes it does actually work.

I have two cats who were friends and then for no reason fights . The reason is not clear but I think the girl is naturally mega anxious cat (hide, overlgroominng etc) and the second cat is the opposite always looking for cuddle and so keep coming to her to cuddle and get slap and attacked in return which lead him to stop eating. I wanted to buy this felliway pheromones to see if it could help us. I was hesitated between the starting kit one and the Friends one which is specialized for multicast house, but because my girl is mega anxious I though I should try the original one first to help her with her anxiety and help her brother for eating again. I swear, the first day I tried the diffuser I was already in chock! She was licking him and sleep with him! Waw! Now it is a week I started it and the result is amazing: she doesn't overgrow herself anymore and is completely tolerant of her brother's need to cuddle her! In response, he eat again as before! It is magical! We don't have to separate them anymore and can let them alone without us! They are now all time together in the same room with no fight. She is still hiding a little bit but much less than before: she is not hiding under sofa anymore but go on top of her tree to have alone time when she doesn't want her brother company. I definitely recommend this felliway!!! Also, from an human perspective: it doesn't' smell a thing for me so I am ok with the pheromone on all day :)

One of my 3 (neutered and mainly indoor) cats was very stressed by other moggies in his garden. We had issues with excessive patrolling of rooms, overgrooming and spraying in some perceived 'danger' zones in the house. Since using this product and taking other measures (reducing areas of house he can patrol, moving food dishes near spraying area and thorough cleaning of urine smell with specialist product) things are much improved. He is much more chilled and back to his purry self, fur regrowing slowly and spraying halted. Can't say it is all down to this product but I have continued to buy refills and will do so for a while yet. I bought two diffusers - one for each room where they sleep and hang out.May cut down to one if improvement continues. Definitely worth trying, as is feliway spray for specific areas where spraying needs to be discouraged. Our cats definitely notice the scent from plug in and spray and seem to like it but we can't smell anything. Nothing like a plug in air freshener so no worries about particulates or air pollution. Word of caution, plug in does get hot and must be used in a plug with plenty of air circulation. One of ours is sited under a shelf but not enclosed and I still notice condensation on wall. Continued use will be expensive but cheaper than vets bills and buying new doormats after weeing incidents and my boy is worth it!

I bought this to see if it would help settle my rescue cat during the fireworks at the end of October/beginning Nov. Previously any small firework would send her running off under the bed and she would not come out. I asked my vets practice about Feliway and they recommended it. I got the diffuser about 5 days before the fireworks started and plugged it in. It's recommended the diffuser isn't plugged in in the hallway as there's lots of traffic and it's better being in one room but the hallway was the best place for me to have it so thought I would give it a try. A couple of days later my cat was sound asleep on her radiator bed in the living room when a firework went off.She woke up and was alert but didn't run off. I thought this was maybe a one off but the fireworks became more frequent and louder and although she didn't settle back down to sleep, she stayed on her radiator bed for some time before jumping off and coming to sit on my lap. This was a huge change in her behaviour. I only found her under the bed once. I had been out of the house and on returning I heard the horrible screaming and whistling fireworks. When I went to find her she was under the bed. She came out pretty quickly and again, remained alert whilst they were going off but stayed lying on my lap. Would definitely recommend it and will definitely be using it again next year.

Have heard a lot about Feliway, and have in the past never had to resort to it.We recently rehomed our new addition to the family. She had a bit of a traumatic time, which led to her having her tail amputated prior to her coming to live with us. She was very nervous and jumpy. We spent the last few weeks coaxing her out of her 'special' place, and although she began to become more sociable, if we moved or went to stroke her, she would just run off. We decided to give the plug-in a go last week, and all I can say is what a difference. She is more outgoing, and spends more time in with us. She loves to jump up beside us, and sit on our laps for long, leisurely stroking sessions. She also loves it when we use the grooming glove on her, and also in the last day or two, even lets me use a comb on her. She is still nervous if we move to quickly or if we walk in to the room and she is not expecting it, but this is something that will in time change no doubt. The Feliway has definitely made a difference to her overall demeanour which makes us happy that she is settling more. This isn't our first cat so I can honestly say that compared to how she was, she is more relaxed and her natural instincts are more of what you would expect to see in a cat. Overall am totally satisfied that whatever is in it, does make a huge difference! :-)
