Update after 4 days of use:I'm devastated again - it only works for a couple of hours when the puppy is tired and he's back on normal... he's been barking and howling for the whole 3 hours after the first couple of hours (where it worked) when left alone... Not sure if I should give another chance at this and purchase diffuser or not :(--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I am seriously about to cry out of hapiness. My 4 months old whippet puppy has a severe separation anxiety, which is likely to be because I got him during the christmas holiday where I made a huge mistake of not getting him used to be left alone. He would whine, howl and bark nonstop the whole time I was out, even if it was just for 1 minute. I had to figure out the way he can stay alone so I researched so much, read almost every article on internet about separation anxiety.Spent the whole two weeks during christmas/new years time working from home and trying to train him using all different kinds of methods including behavioural modification suggested by behaviourist but he just couldnt stay calm for more than 10 mins and bark and scratch the door which broke my heart as I really wanted him to be comfortable without me. I tried to ignore him a lot and crate train him etc so that he can be more independent, but he just continued to be clingy and anxious when left alone. Neighbours began to complain about the noise and I was getting so stressed and devastated as I really had to start going into office soon and I couldn't keep asking my sister to dogsit him during the day nor could I put him to daycare as he was too young for it. Apart from the behaviour modification I also tried: thundershirt, crate training and spray collar. Non of them worked, and I came across this while searching for my last resort solution. The same day I also consulted vet about the issue because I was simply desperate, and they also recommended this. But I was very very skeptical that this would work...It's the second day he's wearing this today, and as usual I gave him some toys and food and came out of my house leaving my facetime on with my macbook and iphone (which was why I knew he had separation anxiety). He normally would follow me to door and try to come out even if there were delicious food lying around at home, but this time he started eating food while I was coming out. Now that was the first surprise. He would then just eat it for 15 mins and didnt even notice that I wasnt around anymore. He then finished the food and he would just check out the door and entire house and realise that I wasn't around anymore, but he just went to his usual spot and just sat down elegantly. And after a couple of minutes he just went to sleep.... and it's been 2 hours. He's just sleeping, and if I make some noise outside, mimicking people passing by, he would wake up to listen, check out the door once again briefly, then go back to his usual spot and sleep again.I seriously just cannot believe what I am seeing right now. As I am out watching over him using face time now I am writing this insanely long essay review cause I am simply blown away. I never really write review especially not an essay like this but I just had to given the amount of time and money I've invested to cure him from separation anxiety and the stress I got over the past 3 weeks. Now, I am not saying this would work for every dogs out there, just like how thundershirt apparently does wonders to many dog with anxiety but did not do a thing to mine, but I highly recommend to at least give a go at this if you tried everything like me and really want to calm your dog long term (not using things like spray collar which doesnt calm your dog but rather scare them). This is seriously my life savour, will also purchase the diffuser as theis thing just works on my dog and it’s more than just worth it. Thank you so much Adaptil.

First - having read a lot of reviews, it is clear that whether the collar works or not depends on the dog - and probably on the cause of the problems the dog is experiencing. After all, no-one would buy this for a dog who had no problems and exhibited no undesirable behaviour. The likelihood is that people buying this collar will have tried a number of different options that have not worked, so it's no surprise that this collar only works on some dogs. It's not a silver bullet. This is going to be a lengthy review - apologies, but it might help to put our positive experience in context. So, in our case we are lucky with our purchase. Our wire-haired pointer was impeccably behaved when we got him - very early,at six weeks. We were a little surprised at how early the breeder let us have the dog - and no, it was not a puppy farm, but a single-bitch breeder KC registered - but our vet said that it should be OK. In retrospect, we feel we should have waited. For the first six months of his life he was friendly with other dogs, enjoying playing with strangers, and loving the puppy socialisation course. And then, thinking we were responsible owners, we had him neutered. Immediately after this, his behaviour with other dogs changed: although still loving with people, he became aggressive with dogs he did not know - even puppies. Although he did not do any harm, he certainly frightened them and was clearly vicious in the intent of his attacks. I'm not sure whether neutering caused the change, although a significant minority of dog owners have reported similar problems. We tried almost everything - distraction techniques, reinforcing our dominant role in the pack, treats whenever a dog appeared, withdrawal of attention if he lunged: to no effect. We also invested a significant amount of time and money with a trainer, who focused on click training and distraction - but to little effect. We managed the situation by keeping him away from other dogs where possible, ensuring he was always on a close lead and treating him if a dog came close. But this means walks were always a worry. It was noticeable that before lunging he would lick his lips - often a sign of fear and nervousness. Thinking back to the early separation from his mother, and wondering if the neutering had caused a hormone imbalance that might have made him nervous and uncertain about his place in the world, we tried this collar six weeks ago.The difference was almost immediately noticeable. He is still nervous around other dogs, but no longer makes the first move - he takes his cues from the other dog, and is happy to ignore it, especially when offered a treat or told to sit. The only real change we have made is the Adaptil collar - and so for us in our situation, it has been a real success.Yes, they are pricey, and only have a life of a few weeks - and they are not he most attractive. But the difference the collar has made to our - that is, us and the dog! - walking enjoyment is worth the money.

This adaptil collar has been brilliant for my puppy. He wasn't over anxious but did display certain traits of separation anxiety. He has had the collar removed now as it stopped working after about 6 weeks although it is advertised as only being effective for 4 weeks. I can definately see a difference in him as he has become very clingy and whines and barks if separated from me in his crate for house training and travel, even if he can still see me. I will definately be ordering another one as I feel it has really helped. However it is not a cure for just any arising misbehaviour and I have taken my puppy to a training class which is run by an association of pet dog trainers (APDT)qualified trainer to make sure I am training him correctly as he is hopefully going to become my assistance dog eventually. As regards fit Of the collar I found that once set to the correct tightness (touching the skin) I found that when we had to get hold of puppy the collar did keep slipping even though we had gotten hold of his normal dog collar, however this was easily solved by wrapping a peice of micropore tape around the fastening to stop it from slipping, we also secured the loose end with micropore tape. You must keep checking every few days though that the collar wasn't becoming too tight and to loosen the collar to the appropriate fit as the puppy grows. Also note that it is not a collar to put a lead onto, it is worn in addition to that.As we are getting him to swim now and the fact that he sometimes needs a wash we do take it off when he is going to get wet so it doesn't become ineffective. This is a brilliant example of how science helps and I can thoroughly recommend it.

I tried this as a last resort having tried all sorts of other calmers, training and habituation techniques for separation anxiety, stress and barking. He is an 8 year old lab and was finding life more and more stressful. We have another 2 year old dog, but if I leave them even to go to the loo and my husband is there, the older dog was getting distressed. He got to the stage of barking at any slight noise or movement and would also go for another dog if it told him off. The dogs come to work with me and he was starting to scare some of the other people in the office with his barking. The collar arrived this morning and I put it on him. He sniffed the air and promptly fell asleep.Various people have come and gone, walking in and out of my office all day. he raised his eyebrows at them as they came past and then shut his eyes again. He gives the impression of finally being able to relax and the difference in him is astounding - lots of people have commented on how chilled he is. I am amazed and keep checking him when someone walks past as I can't believe how relaxed he is.I ordered the diffuser as well and that should arrive in the next day or so. I am hoping that the collar and the diffuser together will allow my husband and I to leave the house together so that we can go next door for a drink on Saturday. We have resorted to going out separately and haven't left the dogs alone for about two years! I will update this review after Saturday - fingers crossed!!!!

I was in two minds about this after reading mixed reviews but decided to take a punt on it as cheaper than other options. I'm so glad I did, the change in my dog is nothing short of miraculous! My 15 month old collie x retriever is scared of everything and had developed an extremely aggressive fear reaction to strange dogs out on walks. As she's a high energy breed she needs plenty of off lead exercise and those trips out were becoming increasingly stressful as I never knew what would happen if a strange dog approached. I was terrified she would hurt one eventually and I found myself isolating her more and more, which in turn made the fear worse. After reading that this problem is not recommended for aggression I didn't hold out much hope but am happy to report it works like a dream on her. From the day it arrived she has been a different dog, not only is she generally more relaxed there has not been any reactions and she is now playing happily with other dogs I am also using other recommended methods alongside the collar but am convinced this has been the main cure because nothing was working previously. I will be ordering one every month now and if your reading this and can relate to the problem, my advice is ignore the bad reviews and product usage description and give it a try! Its important to note that my dog was perfectly behaved and non aggressive in any other situation though it was just purely the fear of strange dogs approaching her. Good luck!

I bought this collar on recommendation from my vet who had known one to work in similar circumstances to ours. I was sceptical but I had even got to the point of feeling that Mabel was better off dead then so scared and miserable all of the time! (obviously I would not have acted on this) Mabel is a 7 1/2 year old Bordeaux cross rottweiler who has always had a bit of an anxiety issue since birth. Coming up to seven years old everything seemed to get worse. She would not be shut in certain rooms and had to have escape routes, she ripped up all of the carpets one day and scratched the doors when we went out for a few hours and forgot to shut her in her 'safe' room. Damage to the house is par for the course,I have 4 dogs and a cat so it is inevitable but I was very bothered by the fact that Mabel was miserable and scared of everything. She seemed to spend all of here time hiding under mine or my other halfs desk (we both work from home) shaking and trying to make herself tiny. Pretty much straight away after putting on the collar she seemed calmer and less stressed. I wasn't sure if it was a fluke so she has been wearing a collar now for two months and I have just ordered a third and I can pretty much say that unless it was a huge coincidence this DAP collar has made a massive difference to Mabel and to us and I am very grateful. Mabel is a big girl and she measures 70cm around the neck which is good because that's as big as the collars go.

really really helpful i had already tried the adaptil diffuser but had no luck as my deerhound Karn is always out and about with me so it only really had an effect on him when he was in a specific area of the house.i heard about these adaptil collars so i went onto amazon to have a look picked up one for an incredible price. i will admit i won't be paying the pets at home price £37 this has started to work already when it was put around his neck. i can now can go out with out him constantly having to be my side at work. he now will rest in his dog crate rather than digging holes in the walls and doors in attempt to escape to come and find me.This has been extremely helpful for his anxiety levels Karn only really gets on with my other dog Duke who is a doberman.i will have to look at getting Duke a collar as he seems rather interested in the smell of the collar (pheromones) and sticks by karns side a lot of the time. This will have to be a long term use for my deerhound as there are other issues that are anxiety related including people and loud noises. He is already a lot calmer around the house even when our neighbour starts his sports car up it dosnt seem to bother karn as much as it did before.I am really happy with this collar its such a good idea and really works i would highly recommend for those doggies that are social anxiety related or sensitive to loud noises.

I was doubtful whether this would work but my extremely nervous dog has been really helped by this collar when we were moving house, she had begun to show her fear by making random unprovoked attacks on other dogs whilst on walks, you can imagine how terrible this made taking her for a walk; making me anxious to take her to a public park but I had no choice, I consulted my vet and he suggested I try Adaptil but he wasn't sure if it would help but said it was worth a try. Within a few days of using the collar (which is easy to put on, although I didn't trust the fastener and taped the end in case it came undone) her behaviour was much more relaxed and less aggressive and continues to be so,although I wouldn't trust her off the lead completely with other dogs around, her behaviour is such that I probably could, I just can't be 100% so I'd rather not take the risk. I hoped that we wouldn't need more than one but after a month it became obvious as it started to wear off and she became more aggressive again, so we have bought another and she seems much more relaxed again so I suppose we shall just have to continue with them. It is not a cure all and weirdly it seems to make dogs become attracted to her and try and mount her, strange as it released the same hormone a pregnant dog exudes, but it has significantly helped her to cope with a new home and surroundings.

This product works. We recently bought this product for the first time after adopting a restless dog. He was keeping us up at night-All night. After going online and a little research, we found that building a den-like bed, leaving a radio on a sensible station like 5-Live or Radio 4, covering all digital clock lights, using a DAP collar along with a DAP defuser (our DAP Diffuser was bought from a different seller and took 3 weeks to arrive so we used the collar on it's own for a while) we also take him out for long walks, and had him 'fixed' as he was 'entire' when we got him, all these things together did calm our dog right down and helped him to sleep through the night. Our dog now wears his DAP collar all the time, he doesn't mind it on at all and it only took around a week before it all kicked in and for him to sleep though the night. He also gets a 'special dog treat' that he only gets just before lights out so that he knows it's bed time. We also use a 'Commander' dog collar which has a remote so that if he decides to bark at 5am we can press the remote from our top floor which firstly emits a beeping sound and then if he's still barking-press the second button and it sprays a short quick spray under his chin and the barking stops immediately. So far, we've only had to use the first button and it's enough to stop him barking completely.

This collar is brilliant, I have 2 dogs a very chilled out placid spaniel and a very nervous/anxious miniature pinscher that we inherited, even though Ernie is learning that it's all ok from Jarvis he still can be a nightmare and barks at everything and doesn't like going for walks as everything is scary. This collar was suggested to me by the vets and I was a bit dubious but as he's got used to the anti bark collar and I tried a muzzle once (never again) I thought it couldn't hurt. The change in his anxiety was noticeable within less than an hour! he hasn't lost any of his character so still plays, runs around and behaves like we're use to but he is so much calmer,he isn't sitting looking out the front window shaking and barking, just watching the world go by, you can see he's really is much more relaxed and more responsive to training as he's paying attention rather than worrying that the plastic bag on the path attacking him (or the post box).I am so pleased with the collar, seeing Ernie in a happier, relaxed state is a huge relief and going forward he is going to be much easier to train and socialise.Hopefully with the training he won't need the collar as a permanent security blanket, but it has been a god send.I am thinking of getting the Diffuser for firework night as Jarvis becomes a quivering wreck......

I've been using the adaptil collar for my rescue dog who joined the family in October from Dogs Trust from around the 4th week he moved it and it was like flipping a switch. He went from being clingy and scaredy and stressed (and humping things) to a much calmer, more relaxed and balanced individual.I had tried the plug in with my other dog years before and it hadn't made a blind bit of difference but I'd never used the collar and only did so when I read that Dogs Trust used them and the logic of it always being on the dog hit me. My dogs already wear a lot of neck furniture (regular lurcher collars - so very wide leather collars - and equafleece hi-vis bandanas)so I wasn't sure that I wanted to add to this but I'm so pleased I did, Zak is a much happier person because of it and it makes for a much nicer household.I find that they last exactly four weeks and I can tell that it is running out when his behaviour deteriorates and the sofa cushions become play things again - he has a particular penchant for the very expensive one that cost almost more than my house - but this stops immediately I put on a new collar. As I said, it's like flipping a switch and I highly recommend it. And if you subscribe you save money, get them every month and don't have to worry about remembering to reorder.

I bought this more in desperation, as my dog hates fireworks and lays by me shivering and quaking as soon as she hears one go off. Last night i knew would be bad 3rd November Saturday as a lot of people would be having their parties. She had been wearing it for a few days to get used to it. I went upstairs early about 6pm to get her settled down and to put the T.V. on try and block noise. The fireworks started at 6.30p.m. Lucy my jack russell snuggled up between the bed pillow and the headboard and kind of covered herself with her blanket and its now 04/11/2018 uk 04.40 in the morning and she is still snoring.I woke up several times and at 11pm the fireworks could still be heard albeit in a distance.lUCY was still asleep.DID the collar work? Well judge for yourself. I am a pensioner and it was a lot of money for me to pay out but really worth every penny, not to have one quivering mass shaking all night by my side. For me the verdict is A WIN. The results for me are a resounding YES it worked, i am so pleased. I dont dread November 5th quite so much we still have one more display for the 10th to get through but hopefully if i leave her collar on it should still be working by then.I really was sceptical about this collar but desperate and would try anything.

We thought we would try this to calm down our very excitable Jack Russell who tended to get stressed and unhappy when our baby granddaughter visits.Shortly after placing the collar, Ellie the dog calmed right down and appeared almost doped. She looked both bewildered and calm and this effect persisted for some time. Thus the next encounter with the baby was slightly less fraught. We therefore bought a second one to follow on after the months effect was due to wear off. This worked a little less well than the first one with the effect being less obvious. I assume from this that the dog must have started to get accustomed to the product and so less influenced by it.The difficult behaviors did start to manifest themselves but to a lesser extent perhaps and in balance, considering the ongoing cost of using these for an extended timescale, we decided to stop after the second month was up. For short term use I must say the effect was just as hoped and possibly if used periodically rather than continuously (although once placed the collar should not be removed and stored, it will deteriorate) then repeated use may be appropriate. It does mean incidentally that the dog has to wear two collars when going out as it is not strong enough to attach a lead.

I brought this collar, after my 7 month old lurcher developed extreme separation anxiety after spending the day at the vets having his' crown jewells' off. He got so anxious when he was left at home alone, even though it was only for 1 hr a day. I would return home, only to be bowled over at the door by a dog that was panting like mad, had wee'd and poo'd all over the kitchen floor, chewed all around the door where I had gone out, and was dribbling everywhere. We tried all sorts of things, TV left on, radio on, item of my clothing just so he had familiar smell. I even crated him, but it just seemed to make things worse. Tried the kong, a bone to keep him busy, but nothing worked. After 4 weeks of this I was at the end of my tether, so thought I would give it a go. Not much happened for the first 5 days, then OMG, day 6, a completely different dog. I can now go out and come back to a dog who is curled up on his bed and just gets up, wagging his tail and potters about. It has made a big difference to his traveling too, he is so much more chilled. I got the diffuser too , and 1 month down the line I am just going to replace the collar and see how things go.Would definatly recommend this product. Thank you.Sarah.xx

Bought in desperation. I own a small dog who thought she was a kangaroo and who was booked into be spayed. On top of that for the past few months she decided 4am was the right time to get up. I was desperate for sleep and worried how I would keep her from jumping after her op. I really didn't expect it to work. But by that point I would've stood on my head naked in the local shopping center if someone had told me it would help. I put it on her the morning it arrived and that night she slept until 6am. Since then she has adjusted back to her old routine of rising at 8am. She is now a chilled out little girl. She is still a little bouncy but no more than any other 14 month dog. She was spayed today,I'm trusting the collar will keep working it's magic. I have also bought the spray to use while she heals.Post Script; day 4 after the op. She is chilled out and recovering well. Not even having to use a cone of shame. She is back to being the happy little dog she was for the first ten months of her life. Normal sleep pattern, normal eating. Life is good. Hoping now she is back to normal she will stay this way but I will be buying another adaptil collar to keep, just in case.
