Every time we had a thunder storm I promised myself that I would order Tucker (11 year old Peek a Poo) a Thundershirt. He shakes and pants uncontrollably even when we pull the room-darkening shades down. Needless to say, he keeps me awake until the storm has passed. I had read reviews for the Thundershirt but was very skeptical that ANYTHING could control his anxiety. The reviews say that the Thundershirt also works for dogs who jump on guests and bark when they see someone walk by the house. We've had Tucker's Thundershirt for a couple of weeks now but have not had a thunderstorm so, unfortunately, I cannot review it for storms. However,I can tell you that the Thundershirt works extremely well for keeping Tucker calm when visitors come to the house. We've had several Steeler game parties since getting the Thundershirt and put it on him before guests arrive. We also had some repair work done this week and tried it out when the workers arrived. To my complete amazement, the Thundershirt seemed to put Tucker in a trance. He does still go up to the new arrivals and sniff them just a little then he just lays down and falls asleep. As I said, I was very skeptical that anything would calm him down. I am very pleased I bought it and just sorry I didn't pull the trigger on this way sooner. I will post an update as soon as we have a thunderstorm to let readers know if it works then. Whether it does or not, it's already worth the price the way it calms Tucker down when we have guests. Stay tuned.UPDATE after 6 months: Now that we've had a few pretty good thunderstorms I can now fully endorse the Thundershirt. It was about 3 weeks ago and in the middle of the night, I was awakened by some pretty good thunder boomers and, of course, Tucker was wide awake, panting heavily, and trying to climb into my skin. I got up, found his Thundershirt and put it on him. It took a little time because I was doing it in the dark but once I had it on him and all adjusted we laid back down. I put him in kind of a "cuddling" position in front of me. I couldn't believe what was happening! He fell fast asleep almost immediately! This thing is worth its weight in gold!! It's like he goes into a trance the minute the Thundershirt goes on. Great product!! Buy it and sleep tight during Thunderstorms!!BTW, before I bought this I tried to get the same effect by putting his winter sweater on him. Nothing! Whatever the Thundershirt does, it does it very well!

Well since acquiring a Rough Collie at age 6 I discovered very soon he does not like loud noises...understatement since he climbs on top of anything and everything whether I am home or not....I have spent a fortune over the last 4 years trying a variety of things designed to help??? This includes Firework cd's, DAPS, anxiety drops of various kinds, and even last year I bought specially designed ear muffs for dogs in cockpits but helped dogs with noise problems. These have either helped a little or not at all or made things worse in the case of the ear muffs cos he didnt like them on his ears.....So every year I have to sit with him in a room with either TV or stereo full blast unable to doanything other than sit with him with him on his leash...and both sit out the manic panic of a dog trying to scramble on everything (including me 25kg of dog on your head is not fun) I might add he is very obedient otherwise....Then this year I decided earlier in the year to buy one of these having seem videos of dogs changing from fear to calmness....& I thought well I might as well try it this might just work.Well I tried it during a bad thunderstorm and allthough he was still anxious was much better than normal and either paced or sat fairly calmly. Same rest of year but tonight has been a test of the highest degree..firework night...and despite the dampness there have been bangs and whistles for the last couple of hours and although I have the stereo on in the background we can both hear the sounds in the background & if I can still hear them he must be, HOWEVER with his new shirt on he is sooooo much calmer..even accepting a treat when calm, and playing with his ball, but mostly he is laying in his fav spot by the door and very very calm....when there is an exceptional bang or whizzing sound he clearly hears it and paces a little but soon settles down....It is almost like having a different dog....if you have a noise phobic dog get one of these....Flash being a Rough Collie has very sensitive hearing and is a very sensitive dog..more so than my old Sheltie and Collie/Retriever cross..For the peace and calm and seeing him so much calmer and happier I would have paid twice the price for this shirt...A Plus is its easy to fit even on a hairy, shaggy dog like a Rough Collie...& he does not object to having it on either...

My dog is 9 years old and has never had and issue with thunder or fireworks in his life... until recently. Maybe it’s old age, maybe he just pays more attention now, I’m honestly not sure. When the thunder hits he shakes and pants to the point I feel like he’s going to have a heart attack. It’s very scary!Introducing the ThunderShirt! I have seen these for years and finally purchased one. Here are my honest thoughts:Pros:- It’s a very secure fit and “hugs” my dog. The sizes are pretty forgiving due to the amount of Velcro on the shirt. I have a 30lb Beagle and chose the Medium. It fits perfect and could go larger or smaller depending on the dog.- The material is very stretchy and it appears to be made really well.We will see how it holds up over time.- Your puppy will look SO CUTE wearing it.- I feel like it does have some sort of calming effect, but see my comments below.Cons:- I’m just not sure if it really works for my dog. We’ve used it 4 times now and while I do see a slight reduction in his terrified behavior, it’s not a magical cure. I guess in my mind, I thought I’d put this on him and he’d be instantly calm. (A girl can dream I suppose.)- It’s snug, as it’s supposed to be, but I do have to loosen it up for my dog to lay comfortably with it on.- It took me over 15 minutes to learn how to put it on. There is a lot of Velcro and it doesn’t look like a traditional dog jacket or sweater. It’s complex, but in a good way.- The loud sound of the Velcro scared my dog at first. It really is loud. They should get used to it if you give them treats while taking it on and off. Make it a positive experience for them.Just some FYI’s-- I was told you need to put it on your dog at random times, not always during a storm or just when he’s anxious. You don’t want them to associate the shirt as a negative thing. It’s supposed to give them a swaddling effect.- They include a little patch sewn on the shirt for applying essential calming oils. I have not tried this yet and it may make a huge difference in the shirts performance.Overall, I think this shirt has potential. If I could rate it a 3.5 star I would. It appears to be very well made, my dog looks simply adorable wearing it, and I do think it has an effect on him. The more I use it, the more calming it may be for him. It’s worth a try!

UPDATE: I bought the XL per the measurements suggestion and at first it was okay, a little big but still snug due to the ability to adjust it, however after a couple weeks it is super stretched out. Every time we put it on our dog it's a little looser. It just hangs on her. She doesn't try to get it off or do anything that would cause this and we haven't washed it... It does work really well though so I'm ordering the size down. Just wanted to note that it does stretch out a lot! But $90 into it is better than having another disaster in the house from her freaking out...*Original Review*I was super skeptical about this working... I have a geriatric pibble that is afraid of everything,ESPECIALLY thunderstorms! So scared, that she becomes destructive... We just moved to a new state and the last thunderstorm we had before purchasing this little gem of a solution, she got under the toilet and broke the water pipe in a spot where you can't just shut it off... flooding ensued! It was a disaster and we needed an immediate solution as our new home has frequent severe thunderstorms... I searched the interwebs and found this thunder shirt with amazing reviews from people with dogs just like mine... so I said "OK! I'll try it!" and it's amazing. Normally she doesn't like to wear shirts more than a little while before she's trying to get them off, but this... she LOVES! She doesn't want to take it off... and when it is off, she's bugging to put it back on. First storm after getting it, she went to her safe place and went to sleep. But it's not just for thunder! For the first time in her life, I was able to cut her toenails without her freaking out and having to go to the vet to have them do it! I'M A BELIEVER! If you are on the fence about this product, don't be, just buy it! :) It doesn't take away all the anxiety but thanks to this, my little girl doesn't shake uncontrollably and go on a destructive rampage through the house! She just goes to her safe place or lays down by us. She's 65lbs with a pretty large chest, so I bought the XL based on the measurement suggestions from the manufacturer and it's a little big so there is a little overhang of material but she doesn't care... it still fits snuggly thanks to being adjustable and works like a charm!

First one I ordered had Velcro fasten not fully stitched looked like machinest had run out of thread but not realised, but seller quickly replaced without any problems. Whilst the coat is a little too lose on my teacup Chihuahua if id gone for extra extra small that would have probably been too short in overall body length because my fur baby is a little long. All in all the measurements are very accurate and if you measure your dog has recommended you should be fine. My little fur baby is a little stressfull in new situations but particularly during thunder storms, going to the Vets or when fireworks are going off,so much so I hate it once fireworks go on sale has bonefire night now seems to go on for weeks not just 5th November and likewise New Years Eve as fireworks seem to be the norm. Only had chance to try once so far during heavy thunder storm and within five/ten minutes of putting on my usually very nervous little boy lay down and went to sleep. I just hope it works as Well when fireworks start to go off because its upsetting to see how stressed my little fur baby gets. Likewise on his next visit to the Vets (it was his Vet who recommended the Storm jacket). Initial reaction very good and I'll post an update once the ultimate test takes place - fireworks and Vets visit. Don't know why or how it works but definitely seems like it does. It's a bit like swaddling a baby approach I think, so some could argue a blanker wrapped around the dog with a cuddle would work just as well, but the dog couldn't move around with a blanket but of course can in the Storm jacket. Added benefit this seller was selling the XS Storm Jacket £10 cheaper than Pets At Home and other Amazon sellers, and having seen boxed product in Pets at Home, I can confirm I received the same genuine boxed product. All in all recommended product for stressed pooch. Update had this stress jacket for about 3 years and still fits my pooch perfectly and looks as good as new after numerous washes. It works brilliantly during stressful situations particularly when fireworks are going off. Definitely calms my little fur baby and he happily lets me pit it on him. Definitely worth buying.

I am very pleased with this product and surprised by how well it has helped. My lurcher has been terrified of loud noises like fireworks since I've had him (he's a rescue). He normally has a full blown panic attack: smacking his lips, shuddering/shaking, hyperventilating, over heating, staring so wide eyed you can see the whites of his eyes all the way round his iris' and pacing about refusing to settle. I've tried various things with mininal effect. This year I bought this thunder coat. I should have bought it earlier but didn't get my act together to sadly his first night wearing it was 3/11/20 and people had already started setting off fireworks. That first night I wasn't convinced it was helping to be honest, but as I hadn't had chance to egt him used to it before he needed it, I knew that was my fault and nt the coat. I followed the instructions like putting it in my laundry basket so it smelled of me etc. By the second night he was hearing it (4/11/20), he was noticeably calmer and actually sat down and settled with us on the sofa, something he has never managed before during fireworks. This evening (5/11/20) is his third night in a row wearing it and there have been a huge number of fireworks. As you can see from the photo and hopefully the video (the video doesn't pick up most of the fireworks, but trust me there were lots the sound on my phone is just rubbish!!), he is like a totally different dog. He did prick up his ears and look up for a few of the very loud bangs, and very occasionally he shuddered slightly, but the majority of the time he was calm and settled. No pacing, no hyperventilating, jone of the more extreme signs of anxiety. He even nodded off at one point which I would never have thought possible before. We normally have to have the TV or radio on to try and drown out some of the noise, but didn't even need to do that this evening. I am so impressed with the difference this coat has made and I'm very very hopeful that effect will carry on every time we use it for him.

We are still in the process of testing this item so I may well pop back in a few months with a updated perspective.Pixie is a chinese crested hairless, and is four years old an sufferes with anxiety.Pix has learnt to associate items of clothing with 'being put in the kitchen' an thus gets herself into a paic with panting, shaking etc.It is horrible to watch as she is clearly in a lot of distress, an although I didn't want to indluge this behaviour she hides under the bed and sofa and can be a royal pain to essentially catch if you need to leave at a specific time.At Christmass we stayed with my partner and the disruption to her normal routine elevated her anxiety when we returned home,I need to be able to confidently leave her for a maximum of five hours twice a week when I attend college (she has the company of my other little dog). The thunder shirt isn't a answer to her problems, the behaviour and stressors needs to be addressed. As I type I am siting in bed fully dressed complete with my boots on, 30minutes prior to leaving home with Pix in her thunder shirt asleep on my lap.She doesn't ware it everyday 30minutes prior to when I leave and the duration of their time alone on set days.Pix loves clothes so there is a certain Joy in the putting on of the garnment which distracts her. When I first rehomed her she would go berserk upon my return, I found picking her up and cuddling her tighter around th chest area settled her in moments so I know she is comforted by the swaddled effect. She is highly strung and protective so this item hasn't dramatically effected her behaviour, but she seems calmer, relaxed when waring it and wants to slump into a cuddle next to you.I am going to try it in the mornings to see if it helps with her barking at the door, and at trainning classes around other dogs which she finds horrendous. I am hoping the comfort might help her relax and allow her to concentrate on the trainning to overcome her behavoural quirks.

Excellent!!I bought one of these years ago from a pet shop randomly for my Staffy who has serious separation anxiety and obsessive tail chasing issues.I used it on him and it defo helped so much that I didn’t need to use it and forgot I had one!But I travel with my dogs (I now have 4, a shih tzu, Staffy, bullmastiff and blue French bulldog). which means long days in the car and over night on the ferry in kennels for them.My Shih Tzu is very highly strung and even though the vets would give him tablets for travel he would still get so worked up he’d chew the kennel till he would bleed his gums! We even tried flying them instead and same outcome. It was either stop travelling with them (really not an option as life dictates travel)or find a new solution. Then I remembered this coat!! Couldn’t find them anywhere online in Ireland but thankfully Amazon came to the rescue!!Ordered and arrived before we were due to travel and I used them on the way over and back on the ferry and guess what........No bleeding gums and not highly stressed dogs!!!And no highly stressed Human!! As I dreaded the kennels on the ferry as I never knew how they’d be when I’d check on them and the upset of having to put them back in during the journey knowing they were hurting themselves also.I used this over and thought maybe it’s just a fluke.......Then came back (summertime and was not going to put it on as thought it would be too warm for them, but saw a vet in the US recommending them for the 4th of July so knew wouldn’t be too warm!), and again No upset or hurt dogs.Chilled and happy. Of course they were still happy to get off the ferry and out of the kennels. But they were chilled and not bleeding!!Really Highly recommend and will be a regular in our routine from now on.I put them on and off the dogs a couple of days before travel for them to get used to wearing them and get the smell of “home” etc.Sorry for long assed review ?

We live in hurricane country and this summer the thunder and lightening from the summer rain storms seem to be so much more than previous summers. Our 10 year Airdale, Maxx, has not fared well during these daily storms. He pants, shakes, is constantly licking his nose and is always within 3 feet of me moving about the house during these storms. I read online that this type of behavior is consistent with stressful reactions. I consulted with our doggie friends and of course the vet. Friends suggested the Thundershirt, the vet suggested medication. Online reviews will tell you no formal research can give valid evidence as to the Thundershirt's effectiveness however many customer reviews rave the results of the Thundershirt,so I thought I've give it a try and only go with the meds if absolutely necessary. Maxx LOVES it! The jersey knit fabric and the tightness about his body seem to do wonders for him during the rain storms and we do get doosies daily! Now when I pull the Thundershirt out, he immediately walks over to me and won't let me do anything else until I put it on him. At 70 lbs., at times he is resistant to letting me take it off, he enjoys it so much. No meds needed here. The product itself is well constructed. If he could sleep in it and wear it always he would, but I'm afraid he will stretch it out. Something about the soft feel and the sense that he is being "hugged" I guess puts him at ease. He still sits close to me but pants and shakes less. He doesn't seem to mind the Velcro sound of putting the Thundershirt on! It is a bit of a challenge at first to figure out how to put it on but after a short bit, it's so easy. He wears it daily since we have storms daily. The Thundershirt is such a comfort for him! I realize that all dogs personality are not the same, but I would recommend it to anyone!!

We bought this for our 6-month-old Whippet pup for separation anxiety. Despite having left him from day one and having built-up leaving him very gradually, he would still bark if left alone without our other dog and bark if left for longer than 45-mins with our other dog. He was only ever left for a maximum of 2-hours, but because the neighbour worked shifts, we felt like prisoners in our own home. The Thundershirt has meant that we can now leave him for over 1.5-hours with our other dog without even a peep from him. We could probably leave him for longer, but have not yet needed to do so. He will now amuse himself with his stuffed Kong whilst we are away, whereas before he'd simply ignore it until we got home.He is far better when left alone without our other dog - he still sometimes barks, but does not howl constantly from the moment he's left until the moment we return, like he did before. We have found leaving a pair of socks with our scent on and the TV on also helps.A surprising side-benefit of getting the Thundershirt is how much more focused and calm he is at his pre-agility and obedience classes. He was not bothered about the fireworks the other night. He is still bothered by big lorries going past whilst out on a walk, so we haven't noticed a difference in helping with that (but it's not a big issue for him).We notice a huge difference when he's wearing his Thundershirt around the house - he doesn't badger our other dog and is a lot calmer. For those people who have a hyper puppy and would like a natural way to calm their pup, then this is a great possibility. (Although avoiding dog food containing any kind of artificial additives would be the first thing to try.)All in all a great product and we have just ordered our second Thundershirt, so that he has one to wash and one to wear.

Our corgi is the most nervous dog I've ever seen. He hates all noises, but especially thunderstorms. He paces, tries to hide under things (that he doesn't fit under), shakes, sheds like crazy (seriously, there's fur flying around him and I don't know how he isn't bald after every storm), and his poor little heart races. We took him to the vet and were told that we just needed to sedate him with antihistamines for storms. It helped, but I didn't like having to give him so much medication, not to mention that it takes quite awhile to kick in and you don't always know exactly when it's coming (or we're at work and can't get home to give it to him in time). We dealt with it until he had to start a regular medication and then couldn't take them together. So we did some research and decided to try this. It's not a miracle cure for an extremely nervous dog, but it helps more than the meds did and I don't have to feel guilty about it or try to time it. And for a dog that absolutely hates noises and anything being put on him, he loves it! If it starts to thunder now and I go to get his thundershirt, he runs to me and starts licking me as I put it on. This is a huge deal for this dog! He still gets nervous and paces a bit during bad storms, but at least I don't have to worry that his fluffy little heart is going to explode and I don't get scratched to pieces by a 35 pound corgi trying to climb me every time it thunders. It could be a bit confusing to put on the first time, so practice it when the dog isn't already distressed. After the first time, it just takes about 30 seconds. We've also washed it a couple of times. Just make sure all of the velcro is attached to itself so it doesn't snag other items in the washer and toss it in. Then lay flat to dry.

I am actually amazed at how well this works. My dog is over eight years old and we never bothered to try a product like this because we thought she was just too intense in her protectiveness and that it wouldn't do any good. Our dog is a mix of several breeds which are known to be highly overprotective, and she's female which seems to be an added factor according to some information we have found. The dog is incredibly well trained but we've never been able to overcome that hurdle of how to get her to obey quickly enough when she gets into that over protective mode and it has always been troublesome. Once my nephew was born we realized that her jealousy of the baby could be highly problematic. While this shirt doesn't render her completely docile, I'm still giving it five stars because of the dramatic effect it has on her. She will now listen instantly when I tell her to go lay down when I'm holding my nephew so that she will stop circling and huffing and trying to stick her nose under the baby. We noticed that while we are in this shirt she also stopped some of her hyper vigilant activities such as "patrolling" the yard nonstop when we are outside. I think we are going to put the shirt on her from now on when we have company so that she'll calm down sooner. She's a big dog and sounds like she'll rip your throat out when she barks, but is actually quite a little affection hound. We think keeping the shirt on her when company comes over will help her be less suspicious and acclimate quicker. Usually it takes her about an hour to get used to the fact that "strangers" are in the house, at which point she'll just try to be adorable to get them to pet her. We hope this shirt gets her to that point more quickly.

This made a very significant, very positive difference for our dog. Please note that our dog likes wearing clothes (she has a winter jacket she loves), so that helped. Going into the purchase, I already knew that this is not a 100% solution to anxiety and that no one thing is, so my expectations were reasonable, not super high, but the Thundershirt did definitely exceed my expectations and I would definitely buy it again. Our dog freaks out at the sounds of fireworks, thunder, construction pile drivers, nail guns, hammering in general, and other similar 'boom' or 'pop' sounds.Dog before Thundershirt: excessive panting, severe shaking, lick lipping (as a stress signal),following me around the house every time I get up, needing to be totally on top of me and nuzzled under my arm while still shaking and panting, hiding under pillows while still shaking and panting, unable to be still, pacing and shaking when not trying to bury herself under me or a pillow, tail between legs, inconsolable, not distractable, would not eat or drink- not even favorite treats.Dog with Thundershirt: reduced panting, desire to stick close to me but not need to be on me, still followed me room to room, but with more distance/more calmness, could fall asleep curled against me on the couch and not be panting at all, I could actually walk away unnoticed when she was given a treat that takes time to gnaw on/focus on. So, no shaking, no need to be on me, some panting that was remedied with treats (bully stick), was able to eat and drink as needed. Still cautious and concerned, but not terrified.I totally give this five stars. It took our dog from 'traumatizing level of anxiety' down to 'somewhat nervous and concerned'.

This Thundershirt is absolutely amazing! My 10 month old Cockapoo had the most awful separation anxiety and howled the entire time I was out. The neighbours told me he always howled with no let up until he heard my car on the drive, once for almost 3 hours. He was agitated and upset when I got home and took ages to settle down. When I was in the house he would howl if I went into the kitchen and closed the door and followed me all over the house. He woke us up two or three times through the night, every night. He also was beginning to snarl at other dogs on our walks. I bought this Thundershirt and the moment I put it on he was a changed dog. I walked into the kitchen and he stayed calmly in his basket.I went out for a few hours and filmed him while I was out and he just watched me drive away, snuffled about a bit and settled down to sleep. He stayed asleep and calm all the time I was out. He no longer snarls at other dogs son our walk and is altogether a happier, calmer dog. His anxiety has gone, and it seems accumulative. The more he wears the shirt the more calm he is getting, even when he's not wearing it. I can't recommend this shirt enough. You must get the correct size though, even if it takes a few attempts, and you MUST wrap it tightly. It doesn't restrict their breathing or movement, and it doesn't rub or hurt. Its very soft jersey cloth and he now sleeps in it all night. I've filmed him all night and he doesn't make a peep. He waits to have his huggy nightshirt on before he goes to bed. I think he's grateful not to be feeling what must have been the most awful anxiety. What a blessing this shirt has been. I've bought one for all my friends dogs and my daughters doggy.

Two months ago I adopted a dachshund mix with pretty severe separation anxiety. It was to the point that if I even went into another room and closed the door she would whine, scratch, and destroy things near the door (she would actually pull books off the bookcase and shred them). Introduced her to the Thundershirt with lots of treats and she seemed to be ok with it. When I put it on her she acts a little dopey, but otherwise normal. Although it wasn't a complete cure, it did stop most of the destructive behavior (shredding and digging at doors). She is now on a course of St. John's Wart, which my vet recommended.Between the drug and the Thundershirt I can leave her at home for several hours now and she is fine.A couple of warnings: if left on for long periods of time the velcro irritates her chest a little (think minor rug burn from 12 hours plus of use) and I've made the mistake recently of putting the shirt on right before I leave so that she now associates the shirt with my departure and gets nervous when she sees it. If you use this to treat separation anxiety, make sure to put it on well before you leave and to associate it with something positive. Also this shirt is meant to to be fastened really tightly around the dog because it works by putting pressure on the nervous system, similar to the way that swaddling calms a baby. So don't be afraid to really tighten it. It's stretchy so it's pretty much impossible to over tighten it. I will be purchasing another of these for my terrier mix who is afraid of fireworks and thunderstorms. Give this product a try, it may not be a miracle cure for every dog, but I bet you'll see a significant improvement.
