The Salomon Group is a globally operating French sports equipment manufacturing company that originated in Annecy, Rhône-Alpes. The company was started in 1947 by François Salomon, his wife, and son Georges (1925-2010). In 1997, it was acquired by Adidas in a $1Billion deal. These being a gift for my 16-year-old daughter, I cannot personally comment on their comfort. But she's a size 7, these are size 7, and they fit although as she has rather wide feet they are rather tight towards the toe area. Anyone with normal shaped feet can expect a correct fit, if these are any guide.A close examination of one shoe gives an excellent impression of a tough, durable and well-made product.Only the passing of time will prove the accuracy of this, but early signs are nothing but positive. The sole is worthy of mention because it seems to be made of strong material that looks as if it will last for years and hardly bear a mark. This is only the impression however; time will tell. The shoe feels as if few (if any) compromises were made in its design and manufacture. It does not feel cheap. On the contrary; it feels as if function and practicality has taken priority over style. This is not a thing of beauty, but one that feels worthy of respect. The price-point seems fair and reasonable; get something half the price and chances are it will be half as good. So these trainers deliver all that I could expect. Key benefits are comfort (I think), quality and durability (I am sure), and versatility (no doubt). It's not a brand name I am familiar with but quite often there's a high price attached to the best-known brands and they're often no better. In any case, this is not a new or fly-by-night company, as it's been around for over 70 years.Other than the note of caution for those with wider feet, there's nothing negative to say about these multi-purpose hiking trainers at all. A really solid and sensible buy.

There are certain things that you should not scrimp on and hiking boots are one of them. I have been known to partake of a cheap shoe, but never a hiking boot. If you are going for a long walk you want something that will feel like a comfy pair of slippers, but give you the support to grip and scramble. Salomon's 'Women's X Radient' variety are a great example, but they are not just a pair of hiking boots. As soon as you lift one of the 'Radient' boots you can feel the quality. There is a weight here that makes them feel well put together, but they are not so heavy that you are dragging bricks along on your feet. The materials are mostly manmade, but the likes of the soles are high density rubber so they will take a lot of beating before they start to wear away. The fact that this is a low boot also means you can use them for more casual walking. They would be ideal for someone who walks into work and then changes when they get there. There was a little issue with the sizing in that they are a little pinched for a hiking boot. If you are wearing a pair of thick hiking socks this would prove an issue, but it helps slightly with the everyday appeal as normal socks can be worn during the day. You may wish to consider purchasing a size larger than normal with the anticipation that you will be wearing thicker socks with them already and will require the room.

Salomon are a french company that's recently been bought out by Adidas. The website is a bit translation shaky which makes it seem illegitimate, but i've seen this brand imported in some independent hiking shops, and I think they do well in France, and are trying to break the UK market. It all feels very early days, but they are well established in Europe and what seems to be a trusted brand. The shoe itself is solid - lightweight build, which in comparison to what i'm used to seems odd, but it's a blessing if you're out for hours. The lightness doesn't affect the strength of the sole, it's just a new sensation to get used to. Laces are reinforced, rubber is properly sealed to be watertight, and the attention to detail is great. Waxed stitching, and things like that, that separate high quality technical boots from cheaper models - it's things put in place to make sure they last with time.Personally, I think more could have been done on the insole, as it's very hard compared to other hiking boots I've had. There's no shape or gel comfort, and you can feel the sole a little too well.Overall, not the comfiest, but a solid 8/10. The design makes them ideal for rough trail running or hiking wearing shorts, where you need something very robust but also easy to get on and off.

I’m a size six in a regular shoe, but I’m used to going a size up with my ASICS running shoes. I’d previously read that these come up a bit small and knowing that I planned to wear them with my thick dog walking socks I went for a size up too. It was a good call, because the fit is on the small side. Wearing a size seven there’s that little extra bit of room at the toe that you need with a running shoe, but the width and mid foot fit is perfect. They certainly fit really nicely around the heel and my feet feel really nicely supported in them. These are some seriously comfortable and very light shoes. The first time I wore them, I took Scruffy our Border Terrier out for a one and a half hour walk and they felt comfortable right from the start. They’re not classed as waterproof but I’ve sprayed them up with protector like I’d normally do, and walking across wet grass with the dog at a time of year when things are generally quite damp, I’ve not had any wet socks. I suppose they’re somewhere between a trainer and a walking shoe. They certainly offer excellent grip. Even on the soft paths by the riverside where I go with the dog, I’ve not slipped at all. I really am pleased with these shoes. If I had to leave you with two words, they’d be “light’ and “comfortable”.

These are the BEST TRAINERS I HAVE EVER HAD. I mean that. I have Brooks. which are great and Asics and others but these are simply wonderful .I got them to review but I am scrupulously honest in what I say. They look tidy and great on. The colour is very subtle and nice but the support and and solid feeling of the shoe is exceptional. They are light and strong and easy to get on ,with plenty of space inside for my wide ish foot..I do not take a wide fit show but have a wide foot. The Salomon Women's X RADIANT W, Hiking and Multipurpose Shoes are , in my view, great value for the money. Though I have not had them long enough to see how they will last the feel is so well made that I have no worries about that at all. They are wonderfully well made with real feeling of quality . The comfort is , in my experience, unmatched. The shoe really holds and cushion my foot in a space that is so comfortable I barely know I have a show on and the the sole grips the ground giving me real traction. I am amazed.... I would not have dreamed a trainer could feel like this and be so foot friendly.Well I guess you got it... I LOVE them and will never have another make .. at least not until I can be convinced there is something better. They tick all the boxes for me.

I currently work for Ordnance Survey and as you might expect everyone here is very into their outdoors. Salomon are very well respected as a brand here and a number of people expressed a reservation about buying on line but I explained the returns policy and how I've used it in the past and that seemed to persuade a few people.I have to say when I opened the box I was unsure of what to expect but WOW .... the build quality was superb. No dodgy seams, threads, mis-aligned panels etc. (some of the things I have seen with other shoes bought online - you seem to get factory seconds from some brands so I understand when people are wary of the product.)None of that here. These shoes are top quality,a solid build, fit perfectly and are really comfortable. I would fault them if I could but I can't ... they are superb. Salomon have just joined my trusted suppliers on Amazon list.Thoroughly recommend these shoes and this brand.

I am a size 5 in every shoe so I was surprised that these were a bit tight fitting and my toe is up at the edge, they do wear in a bit but I think a half size up would be better. However, I have narrow feet and my heel doesn't have a good fit and is loose in the shoe. So my toe is up against the edge and my heel is loose, not ideal and this is a bit of a problem for a walking shoe as it could lead to blisters.Aside from the fit, the shoes are very comfortable, they it have strong support and are nice to walk in. I have had Salomon shoes before that have lasted years of wear and tear so I think they will last a while. The sole is very strong, you can climb over all terrain with these shoes. They are also waterproof so ideal for out and about in all weathers. They are walking shoes rather than trail runners, they are a bit too heavy to go running but ideal for long walks. They look good, and have a nice design.

I wear a UK 4/US 6, I’ve a slim B fitting foot and also wear a medical full orthotic so replace any walking/running shoe inner soles with my orthotics. I ordered 3 different Salomon models of walking shoes as I’d heard they’re a slimmer fit than Berghaus which was way too big and they didn’t do smaller than a 4. I ordered the Salomon Ellipse 2 GTX W in 4, really liked this shoe but too wide and couldn’t tighten the laces enough on the forefoot so was quite loose, the length was fine but had to return. Ordered the 4 in Salomon Women’s Hiking Shoes X Radiant GTX W, liked this too but same problem as Ellipse. Ordered the 4 in the Salomon Women’s X Ultra 3 Prime GTX W - perfect! The forefoot is narrower and also has the ability to tighten them more than the previous models. Been wearing them now for a couple of weeks and very comfy and goretex waterproof is fab.

These feel very light but have a rugged sole and are generally well-made. The cushioned insole is comfortable from first wear, with good support under the arch of the foot. There are no rough edges or anything to rub I.e. these don't feel like they need to be worn in.As the blurb says, they come up a bit small - I normally take a 4 in shoes, size up to a 5 for trainers or boots that I might want to wear with socks: these are a 6 yet fit fine.I'm not sure they're for the serious hiker, but are a good pair of all-round trainers that will certainly stand up to some mud, with a solid non-skid sole.

Love these walking boots! Word of warning however - Previously I bought them in my usual size and they were too small so went a half size up and they were too small as well. These I bought in a whole size larger than my normal size and they fit perfectly. Very comfortable and supportive for long walks along canal with my dog. Not waterproof but then I didn’t expect them to be. The round laces can be annoying as they easily come undone so may change them to flat type laces.

These are being worn by a friend in Ireland who loves walking were she lives in the rural west. She reports that these hiking shoes withstand the wet and boggy conditions for which Ireland is famous with ease. Her mother reports that the shoes seem to be hardly ever off her feet. Praise indeed. No sign of any wear or leakages so far and have proven to be very comfortable with no blisters even on long walks.

A very tough and firmly fitting shoe. I found them too firm because I have wide feet, but my daughter used them for her Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition and found them extremely comfortable. The grip is good and the hard sole makes them feel hardwearing. The quality of the outer shoe and stitching looks very good and hasn’t been affected by a few heavy-duty uses.

These 'Salomon Women's X RADIANT W, Hiking and Multisport Shoes, Ebony/Bluestone/Icy Morn, Size 6' are a nice-looking and comfortable pair of walking shoes. They are quite rounded at the toe, which means that they look rather small before you put them on but they fit my tester fine. They have good grips, are lightweight and waterproof.Great pair of walking shoes.

Arrived early, very comfortable fit and perfect sizing. Feel supportive and with sufficient cushioning but still some flexibility. Looking forward to wearing on a Northumberland walking holiday soon.

They arrived fast. The shoes do not weigh, the sizes are exact. I have used them for 2 days and I am delighted with them. Very good and safe store, it was not the first time I bought on this website
