Pros - light weight, good ankle support, good foot protection. The ankle support is great. I twisted my ankle (mostly because the stiffness of my boots throw off my balance) on a rock scramble, but the boots provided so much ankle support I was able to keep going (I only had a mile left) even with my ankle in some pain over the very rocky terrain. I also love the ortholite liners as they really do a great job keeping my feet at a comfortable temperature. My feet tend to get really hot in non leather shoes and the ortholite liners plus wool blend socks really help with that.Cons - can be a little stiff and cause foot fatigue,I generally need to loosen the laces after 10 minutes of walking to keep my feet from going numb even though I feel like I didn't over tighten them initially. Because of the stiff fit these have a tendency to throw off my balance especially when hiking through rocky terrain or during a rock scramble.Overall I recommend these.

Now that I have worn these on a few hikes ( probably totaling 40 plus miles of use to date) and consider them fully broken in, I think it is safe to say I love these boots. I have a pair of Salomon trail runners that I use for lighter hiking and outdoor trekking, but wanted something for more rugged terrain and backpacking. They are not very bulky or heavy at all, I have no rubbing or irritation from them, and I love that my feet stay dry and warm on wet, muddy trails. I have never had them truly submerged in water, but when I have gone through puddles and small creeks where water/mud has flowed over the tow box, there is no permeation. I normally wear a size 9, as in my trail runners, but went with a 9.5 for these to accommodate thicker hiking socks, and that was just right. I will likely stick with this brand for my hiking shoes and boots.

I am always between a 7 and 7.5 in shoes. I tried both sizes, with (darn tough) hiking socks, I preferred the fit of the 7. I have a high arch and slightly wide foot, but the 7M fits well. I have worn on several hikes. They are comfortable, light weight, and waterproof (in small amounts of mud/water so far). The treads seem tough/sturdy, but I haven't been on a wet surface yet. I had also purchased a different brand and tried both before choosing... the others weren't nearly as sturdy, but were as comfortable. One drawback - they don't breathe well; my socks were wet from sweat after about 3 hours. I am glad I got them on sale, because retail is expensive.I think they will last a while and work very well for my day hiking through various terrains (usually 3-8 hours per outing).

Really great boots, I could tell right when I put them on out of the box. I have other Salomon hiking shoes but haven't yet got a pair that has ankle support, as always with Salomon these are great quality. I wear a 8 in hiking shoes in general (but an 7 1/2 for normal shoes) and an 8 fits me very well for this model, with a mid-weight wool sock it fits perfectly with enough room for when my feet "expand" after hiking for hours lol. This boot is so comfy, I really like the support it has throughout. The sole is nice and squishy in a good way, almost feels like a pair of quality running sneakers with all the cushion! I can't wait to wear these when I go backpacking,I can already see that these are going to be my go to hiking shoe for longer trips!

Great experience with these boots! They are my first pair of hiking boots and I ended up purchasing them right before hiking Mont Blanc....and totally fearing the repercussions of not having months to break them in. These boots really don't require much break in! I hiked about 8 hours a day for 5 days and never had a blister or even a sign of a potential blister. My feet were so comfortable! At times, I noticed a lil rub to my inside ankle bones...one day it would be the left...the next the right...and usually only lasted a bit before it disappeared or I forgot about it. Obviously nothing too uncomfortable. Very happy with my experience with Salomon's....thank you! I usually wear a 7.5....I found the 7 fit well.I wore medium thickness socks.

Salomons fix all my foot problems. Best hiking boot for wide feet with excellent arch support and supreme comfort right out of the box for miles on end. My other "trys" with reputable brand name boots could maybe make it 4 miles without pain, but with these I'm good to go. This is my 2nd pair of this model. My blue ones are holding up fine, but need a 2nd pair. Gore-tex is a must have and works great for damp mornings, rain and low water crossings. Umm yeah, if the creek goes over the top, you'll need to take them off! oops. Can't wait to get my Comets delivered from Amazon. I expect the Comets to be a great choice for hiking Acadia in the fall. Thank you Salomons for saving me!I won't wear any other brand.

I tried on every pair of walking boots in Mountain warehouse & narrowed it down to my favourite pair. Then I went to another store and tried on the Salomon Ultra Mid 3. They were SO comfy by comparison!!! I decided to look online to see if I could find them cheaper & came across these. So I searched to find the difference between the Mid 3 and the Mid 2.Well, there didn’t appear to be much difference but the Mid 2 are an older model so they were much cheaper. These arrived quickly and are SO comfortable. I love the supportive foot arch and they’re just the right height at my ankle. I love them. Normally I’m a 6 but I had to get these in a 6.5.Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Recovering from an ankle injury, I was concerned about my upcoming vacation in Wyoming, where I would be hiking in the Tetons. I decided last minute to get new boots for the ankle support. I read many, many reviewa, from both professionals and everyday users, and saw how many praised these boots and said they were ready to wear. Indeed, I received them on Tuesday, hiked Cascade Canyon on Satuday, and had the best experience. Not only did the boots provide great ankle support, they were sooo comfortable. Out of the box. I wore them all week without any complaint. These boots exceeded my already high expectations So, as I said, just do it. You will be glad you did. .

I bought these hiking boots to wear while hiking Mt. Washington. I did not have time to break them in and though other reviews stated they were great right away I was still nervous. They ended up being very comfortable!! No blisters and I had them on for 9 hours. Great fit, nice looking, and very supportive. I ended up getting my normal size 7 and the fit was perfect. My last pair of Solomon hiking sneakers were a 7.5, so I guess these do run slightly large as far as hiking boots go. I did walk through some water but not enough to really be able to speak for how waterproof they are. I highly recommend these boots!!

My first pair of hiking boots and they are fantastic. I did quite a bite of research and read a lot of reviews by companies as well as individuals. I choose these and I'm glad I did. I usually wear a 7.5 - 8 so I first ordered the 8 but turned out to be too big. I returned them with hassle and purchased the 7.5 which were perfect. Only used them once so far but did not need to break them in. My feet felt very supported and 'comfy' along with my hiking socks. They felt pretty light weight to me but of course its a boot not a shoe so that will make it a bit heavier but nothing that affected me at all.

Bought these for winter walking around town. I have very picky feet that generally only tolerate birkenstocks. When I put these on I don't feel a massive amount of arch support but it must be there because I can walk miles per day in these and my feet feel great. They are heavy duty enough to handle walking around in inches of snow and on ice, but still sneaker-ish enough to wear comfortably all day if you can't change into other shoes. After one winter/spring of wearing daily they show almost no wear, I expect them to last well.

These definitely run one size smaller than the tag. I knew this in advance and ordered accordingly so I ordered one size bigger than I normally wear and they fit beautifully. I went on a five mile hike with them last weekend and have zero complaints - they are lightweight, the tread is great and the ankle support, while not obtrusive, probably saved me a couple of sprains. Looking forward to using them as I go on an overland panamerican expedition this fall. Follow our journey at www.vagabroads.com thanks Salomon!

Just retuned from Chile! Hiked in all terrains, dessert sand, gravel, red clay up and downs, dry, wet... you name it! I loved these shoes! Wore these shoes daily for 12 days. Any moisture dried quickly! No slipping, great traction climbing and descending steep and wet terrain. Highly recommend these shoes! Bought a size 8. Depending on the shoe I can wear 8-8.5. I bought well in advance of this trip for time to exchange (but did not need to) and time to break in. These shoe were very comfortable from the start!

These hiking boots are very comfortable. The insole kept my feet from pain even when having walked in them for 8 hour a day. There was little break in period and and little rubbing. The ankle support is decent and I like the angle cut above the ankle because I think it makes going downhill a bit easier. One minor issue is that the shoe is a little big large around the ankle so it's hard to tighten to a perfect fit. I still like them a lot and hope that I can get a lot of use out of them before they fall apart.

I would give them 5 stars because I really like them and had not had any issues with them hiking right out of the box, however owning a pair of Salomon Trail shoes and ordering the same size they are larger than expected and I do have to wear thicker socks in them. That said - I haven't had an issue hiking very steep local mountains or longer trails (6 miles) including running some of those in these. Definitely would buy them again but just be aware of the slight fluctuation in size!
