This is my second pair and I think they are pretty brilliant Comfort is supreme - very similar to a trainer. I have added a sport insole of my own, but they are fine without really I guess. These are not stiff boots, so I don't wear them on high mountains during the winter, but for most terrains and as a 2-3 season boot they are fine and good for anything from mountain use, heathland, hard trails, and rock (even good on wet rock). The gortex works well but you do get wet feet eventually in prolonged bog or if you put a foot in a river by accident. Ive walked miles in them in a day without any discomfort, and this is possible from new. You can even jog a bit in them if you need to get somewhere fast.I have given 4 rather than 5 stars for two reasons: 1. You get lots of bits down the collar which can be irritating. You really do need to shake the boots out before use each time. Not a huge problem but worth a mention as it does happen a lot. 2. More seriously, i occasionally catch the lace and/ or rivet on one boot with the other foot which has caused a sudden and sometimes quite dangerous forward trip. This is quite a problem as I walk regularly in the Welsh mountains were I live and am often on steep inclines, and it has made me feel slightly nervous of it happening as it isn't infrequent. It def isn't me or my waking gait as I never had this experience on my first pair nor on any other boot come to that. (The only time something like this happens is when im in crampons). Im assuming it is because the 2 rivets at the top are wide apart - perhaps wider than on my original pair, so easier to catch? (NB I see you can get short neoprene gaiters which would cure both of the above issues, so I am tempted, but wouldn't want to wear them all the time. But these may help to an extent that would recover my confidence when on the more serious mountains).

Before receiving these in the mail, I did not realize that the top two lace holes are like those on hockey skates (little hooks you wrap the lace around). I think this makes it so that I cannot get the laces quite as tight around the top as I would have liked for ankle support. However, I have been using these boots to farm full-time and have not taken them hiking yet, so the ankle support is not a huge issue currently. The first week of use, I got some blisters on my toes, but after a week of breaking them in they went away, and since then these boots have been very comfortable. They are very lightweight. I have been farming in 80-90 degree heat and don't feel like my feet are exceptionally sweaty after a full-days work.In terms of how waterproof they are: I have splashed water from a hose right on them, and have also submerged most of the shoe in water and had no leaking into the shoe. There only time I have had trouble with water is when it was raining heavily and the rain entered the shoes from the top (I think due to the lack of tightness because of how the top laces loop in). However, I would still recommend these shoes. They are very comfortable and light, and if I were to ensure my pants were over the top of the shoe while it was raining, I don't think water would have entered the shoe. Sizing: for reference, I wear a women's 8.5 in sneakers, but a women's 7.5 in chacos and other smaller, flat-type shoes. I ordered these in a women's 8 and can comfortably wear wool socks in them.

I've always had Timberlands with one exception of a Keen (which I didn't like at all - way too narrow and I hated the tread s it was like wearing a cleat). My Timberlands always lasted a long time with a lot of abuse, but wore out inside at the ankle as my foot would always slide up and down. I decided to give these a try. Finally a day of sun and I could get out on the trail. I LOVE LOVE LOVE these. My foot fits snug in the back and although some of the reviewers said it could rub, I didn't have this trouble at all. It was as if I'd had them for years they were so comfortable. My feet are wide (I think I'm part duck with the way my feet are shaped) and these accommodated beautifully. The reason I mentioned Timberlands was not only because the fit was better on these, but they felt light as a feather after the Timberlands. The tread was amazing. We've had a lot of rain lately and I didn't even notice the soggy ground and walking through a few light streams, my feet stayed completely dry. Love these so much think I'm going to get a pair of the speedcross. I'm a devout Salomon's fan now. Oh and my husband is so impressed he's getting a pair too.

LOVE THESE BOOTS! Super quality, sturdy yet comfortable, and great for standing, walking, and uneven terrain. I am not a hard-core hiker. I bought these 6 months after an ankle surgery for a work trip where I knew I'd be walking on uneven gravel, standing more than normal, and working both inside and outside. Nothing too demanding, just not my normal conditions. I read a lot of reviews before trying a few brands/types and these were the clear winner. They are still comfortable and good looking a year later! They have held up great despite some rough conditions and not so gentle treatment. They have gotten pretty wet and I haven't had any issues.SIZE / WIDTH NOTE: I bought 2 pair originally,in my normal size but in normal and wide widths. I kept the wider ones, since the "normal" ones were way too narrow for my average width feet. My brother (an avid hiker) says this brand tends to run narrow, so keep that in mind for both men and women.

This is my second pair of these boots. The first pair now lives at my workplace and I needed a pair for home as well. I work for the US Forest Service and so much of my job is outdoors, in rough terrain, rain, snow or shine. These are all-day comfortable and have never leaked. They are truly waterproof: and I have thoroughly tested that claim. I wore them on our trip to the UK last summer. We did a lot of hiking and they worked well. I did have to get a size 9 and I normally wear a 9-1/2- 10-1/2. When you look at the European or UK size, it makes sense. However, Salomon needs to do a better job on posting sizes. I have narrow feet, especially my heel area and these fit perfectly, no rubbing or blistered. These are out of the box comfortable, no need to break them in. My first pair is over a year old of almost constant use from fall to spring, and intermittent use in the summer and they have minimal to no signs of wear. Great boot!

I just got my first Salomon hiking boots. I have not hike in it yet but I can't wait. I tried it at home and it feels amazing and comfortable. I've worn my regular salomon trail running shoes for a few years now and I love it. I'm an avid hiker and I ordered the mid height hiking boots for winter hiking and steep incline hikes. I also ordered a trail running shoes for my husband and he never wore Salomons before. Now, he's a fan when he only wore merrels.Addition to my review: I took it hiking on a steep mountain hike with slushy melted snow and mud. I did not wear any crampons at all. I was super impressed with the comfort level and grippage. I know I would of fallen many times if I didn't wear these boots. These kept my feet warm and dry. I just wished the shoe tying laces would be similar to my trail running shoes. I'm in love with these boots and totally recommend them.

I love these walking boots.I walk at least 20km once a week and also completed a 100km challenge walk in these earlier this year. They needed very little breaking in and are the closest to a flexible trainer I have ever got in boot form.I am usually a UK 6/6.5 but I got these in a 7 to account for thicker socks and feet swelling on much longer walks, and they fit well. They have been out with me in all weather and the goretex works well to keep feet dry.I would recommend these to anyone who like the ankle support of a boot, but want the flexibility many boots don't offer. And get at least a 1/2 size bigger than your normal shoe. I have walked at least 300km in these already and no sign of wearing seams or loss of structure.Would buy again, and I think I will get a second pair incase this particular line stops being manufactured.

These are great boots, well worth the cost. I only started hiking recently and wasn’t sure if I was going to like it, so bought inexpensive (relatively) shoes locally. I discovered that I love hiking, but my feet were not secure in the old shoes, especially on descents. I have Morton’s Toe (long second toe) and ended up losing a toe nail due to the old shoes. I also experienced a lot of knee pain. These Salomon boots have changed everything. I am hiking (and snowshoeing) pain free. They stay warm and dry and my toes, feet and knees feel great as compared with the old shoes. The only thing that I can’t comment on yet is the traction — I live and hike in the Adirondack Mountains,so I have only used the boots with micro- spikes and snowshoes thus far.

These shoes are the best fitting light weight hikers out there. What’s exceptional about these boots is the heel & arch fit. These sections of the boot actually hold your foot in place without being binding. This is very important as I use these boots for walking the lava rock hills of Nevada in search of chukar & other wiley critters that live in this crap. Going up & down the hills, your toes don’t jam into the front, your heel stays locked in, & you maintain great ground contact. The mid ankle height also provides plenty of support. I’m guessing I have about 100 miles on these boots & the tread continues to hold up well. These are not extreme cold weather boots but if you’re looking for a lightweight “substantial” hiker, you might like these!

I usually take a size 8 in shoes, but based on many of the reviews here, I went for 8.5 and I'm glad I did. The boots fit great, just the right amount of snug with room in the toe box. I wore them right out of the box and walked 6 miles with no discomfort or pain. Since then, I've taken them out on a few longer hikes and I'm still very pleased. They're very light, grip well, and give great overall support. Highly recommended.update: These boots served me very well on a 7-day Kilimanjaro trip. Despite 5-6 hours of walking each day, I didn't develop a single blister or experience any discomfort. Our route was occasionally slippery (gravel over rocks)but I learned to trust these boots and their exceptional grip.

I LOVE these shoes! They are very comfortable and light as a feather! I can wear them all day long without feeling weighed down. As advertised, they are breathable and waterproof. I actually took a hose to mine and sprayed both the top and bottom of the shoe to clean them off. No water seeped in! Regarding durability, I haven't had the shoes long enough to say, but they are really well made. I particularly like the toe protection and deep lugs because I tend to go 110% when outside- These shoes are just as useful for doing yardwork (and walking my 70lb American Bulldog) as they are for hiking, so I am glad I spent the money. Solomon's are my new go-to shoe for anything outdoors!

Love these hiking boots! I have a chronic circulatory problem which has meant multiple foot surgeries and painful and swollen feet / ankles over the years. Hiking has become nearly impossible over the years until I bought these hiking boots.I had expected that they would give me some support and some relief from pain, but did not expect such immediate improvement. The first time I put them on I went on a 4.5 mile hike on a moderate to hard level trail in the mountains of Arizona. The boots made a great difference and I found that I had almost no pain AND I did not need to break the boots in. These boots are worth every penny of the cost and the look pretty cool too.

I tested these out at a Nature preserve near my home as soon as I opened the box. I hiked on gravel, dirt, sloppy wet sticky mud and crossed a few streams. The boots are comfortable right out of the box. I usually have an issue with boots digging into the front side of my ankles when I first wear them or the tongue migrates to one side of the boot but not with these boots. They are nice and light was well and they might make good trail running shoes. I’m not usually a fan of how the newer styles of boots look (I like the more traditional Danner boot style) but I can tolerate these and their functionality makes up for the ski boot appearance.

I’ve had these for about a year now. They do seem to run a tad narrow, so beware if you have a wide foot. They’re easy to lace and have sturdy laces. They’re so incredibly Comfortable. Usually my feet start hurting on a long hike, but after 5 hours of hiking, my legs were sore and not my feet. I walked through several puddles and a low creek and no water got in. I wouldn’t say they’re completely water proof but definitely water resistant. I actually bought a second pair just in case they’re ever discontinued because I love them so much. Also, after a year of wear at least twice a week, they still look fairly new.

I order edit three different brands to try out. This shoe was the obvious WINNER! Best fit, best arch support, we’ll made, look a little bit more fashion sporty, like a cool pair of tennis shoes!! They are a tad be heavier than the other brands, not enough to notice when wearing. My foot feels secure but not tight, it doesn’t slide around (injury that’s what first comes to mind lol) SUPER SPORTY fashion cuteness! If that matters to you. Probably take a minute to break in but as for now there isn’t any part of my foot or ankle that feels off/ uncomfortable. LOVE!! I’m glad they worked!Totally true to size!!
