These are initial first impressions only. I will add to this review after more extensive use.The Capra 'Boulder' design is clearly inspired by rock climbing shoes more than standard trainers. The fit is very snug around the toes, which I like, but which some people may find unexpected. The sole unit sits flush with the edge of the foot and doesn't flare out sideways, which must presumably increase support and sensitivity on vertical rock surfaces. Just like climbing shoes there are flat, somewhat sticky rubber inside surfaces at the toe for grip. The leather upper has a separate panel at the toe which allows the laces to to be tightened for an even more precise fit, and for additional flexibility, without rucking up. If you have wider feet this should also provide room for expansion, but you may want to test this in-store before buying. These shoes are very nicely constructed. The leather upper side panels appear to be solidly built from quality material, unlike my previous Merrell Moabs where the flimsy leather trim appeared to be stuck on for decoration only. The toe protection is rubberised and double-stitched which is again reassuring. Merrell have used flat laces, which I prefer since they stay tied and don't work loose like round laces. There is some plastic protective webbing on the heel unit which should protect the leather against abrasion but is possibly not intended to provide support.since it's very flexible.I was very disappointed with my cheaply constructed, flimsy Merrell Moabs, but these Capra 'Boulder' shoes appear to be a return to form. Too early to tell how they perform over time, but they look promising. To be continued...UPDATEThey're light and comfortable and responsive. However they do not offer much support and protection for longer hikes. If you're carrying anything heavier than a light day-pack on even terrain you are highly likely to twist an ankle in these. Superb traction on rock surfaces if that's what you need.

My initial impression of these hiking shoes is highly favourable. Bought to upgrade from a pair of non Gore-Tex Merrell MOAB Ventilator shoes (which are perfectly fine for what they are) I am very impressed. I have (relatively) wide feet and often encounter issues with shoes 'pinching' but, for me, the fit was pretty good right from the first try-on, I felt that the profile of the shoe was far lower that the MOAB predecessors, something which I was slightly concerned about as I had got used to a bulkier shoe. A short trip to cold and snowy Germany followed where these shoes impressed me, I immediately noticed the difference in warmth and staying dry, I have GTX boots which (whilst packed in my kitbag)remained redundant for this trip as these shoes did what I needed, they were also very comfortable over the distances covered daily - nothing too extreme but I'm confident that they would perform just as well over much greater distances. It was like wearing slippers to go hill and trail walking (no mountains on this trip), good grip for ascent and descents alike. Naturally time will tell how well they perform, and resist wear and tear, over a longer period but for now, they are well worth the money spent.

I purchased both the black and the brown version of these shoes and ultimately settled on the brown suede version. They are replacing another pair of Merrells which saw me out for almost 4 years and upwards of 3000 miles of walking - So I am hoping that these can compete as sadly the other model were discontinued :'(After a month of use so far I can confirm that they fit great and walk well. There is substantial grip and the terrains where I have had the opportunity to test them have been no challenge for them yet.Every aspect of the shoe looks good and well thought out and so far are holding up to the rigors I've thrown at them. The only dislike I have at the moment is with the flat laces and not being used to them, but this is an element which I can change should I wish to!

Shoes are very waterproof, I have tested it while I was washing the exterior, and have used it to summit several peaks in the Lake District. Grip is exceptional especially on rocky surfaces. Be wary that this is a low rise shoe so moisture can still seep through your socks; it was raining heavily on one of the peaks and my shoes filled with water. Even after that happened, I left the shoe to dry, and the Goretex membrane remained waterproof with no signs of any leaks.Overall I am very happy with this product and would definitely recommend. The design is splendid, looks just like the picture and could be passed off as a daily wear shoe.

I bought these to replace another pair of Merrell shoes which I had used for a couple of years almost non stop. They were comfortable and durable and these new ones feel just the same. I have walked about 6 miles with the dogs in them so far and they give me a confidence that is often only found with high shoes or boots. The sole is firm but not stiff and the upper material supports just enough. I bought a size 10 and have wide feet and a low arch. They are a great fit and already super comfortable after a short and painless break-in period.

I really enjoy wearing these shoes. So much so that I bought a second pair. They are now discontinued, so a revue is a bit pointless. The first pair did, however, develop a leak fairly early on in their life. I put up with it for a while, but got fed up and eventually contacted Merrell. I'm glad I did, because even though they were only about a week inside the year's warranty, they sent me the returns paperwork, including pre-paid postage, so that they could reimburse me subject to testing them.

I love these shoes, a tad large (bearing in mind that I'm 11 I ordered 12 (given the warning by reviews that Merrell tend to run small), I think perfect fit would be 11 and 1/2 but was not available) but fit OK nevertheless, very confortable. I walk a lot during the day at work and these don't give me any aches on my feet after wearing them all day. If you have the chance and find the 1/2 size bigger than your usual size in other shoes consider it, but 1 full size on these fits still OK.

Arrived this morning so I obviously won’t be able to comment on how they’ll be somewhere down the line. But what I will say is they look and feel fantastic after a wee walk to the shop. I was a wee bit dubious on how the quality would be after getting them at a good price but I needn’t have worried. As for the delivery ? Very good indeed. Ordered them when I went to my bed on fri night and they where here sun morning ? highly recommended, fantastic purchase Cheers

5 stars are reserved for top quality products. This is one. I am struggling to think of a negative.Great company, price, and they have taken a battering with no side effects. They are waterproof although I wouldn't want to walk through vast amounts of water - you'll be wanting walking boots - but me and the dog and climbed numerous peaks and they are still going strong.Good advice from other reviewers on sizing. Go half a size up.Highly recommended.

Great shoes. Very light, very comfortable and a good price from Amazon.I've been buying Merrell for about 10 years however so I'm a fan of their products. These are a bit more snug than Chameleons for instance but I found them very comfortable. They appear to be durable and the sole is extremely grippy if a bit less pliable than the Blaze. If you want a multipurpose hiking shoe for mostly warm weather then these are a good pick.

A good pair of hiking shoes. It's comfortable and feels light to walk with it. It's got a nice feel and keeps the feet dry after my walk on the snow. After wearing it for few days, I do feel the feet feeling non-sweaty and at the same time gore-tex is keeping in dry.I went for half a size bigger than my regular shoe size and that seems to be the correct decision.

I bought these to replace my reliable old Chameleons, which after nearly 7 years of excellent surface wore out on the soles. These are comfortable (I didn't need a bigger size), look well made, and maybe they'll last as long. If they last only half as long as the last pair they'll deserve the full 5 stars.

I've had several pairs of Merrell shoes over the years - they are always a good and consistent fit for me.These seem well made, light weight and comfortable.I've no reason to doubt the GoreTex waterproofing and the soles should be as hard wearing as ever.I would recommend.

Great shoes up to the usual high Merrell standard. Having ordered one size larger, as per 3 previous pairs of Merrells, these came slightly large. Product recommended but order a 1/2 size larger than your normal uk size.

19.1.2017

Really comfortable and good value at £65, (went up to £82 the next day!) There are many reviews for sizes of Merrell being too small, I normally need size around 11.5 but these are 12.5 and fit well, 12 was too small.
