I'd been thinking of getting one of these for some time in order to cut electricity bills, whilst friends said it was swings and roundabouts. Thing is: in winter I have to turn my gas hobs on in the morning and evening anyway as the kitchen is so cold, so why not use one to boil a large amount of water, and keep it simmering on a low gas throughout the normal time the hob is alight? It's working out well and I'm very pleased with the kettle. Reminds me of my childhood. The stainless steel does mark with use, but can be cleaned with a CIF-type cleaner and comes up shiny and new.I chose this particular model because I don't trust aluminium - and being heavy-duty stainless steel am confident that it'll last for years and years. The handle is a little awkward to get used to after using jug-type kettles for years, but you do get used to it and the handle doesn't get hot unless you leave it on the gas for ages - even then it's still holdable. One thing to watch out for if elderly or young people use it, is once the water boils and you start tipping the kettle to pour, the boiling water hits the dry spout and spits. I've not had any accidents with this because I let the spout wet slowly by tipping gradually at first - so it's just common sense and learning to use it properly.I don't miss the electric kettle at all. Had a very expensive posh one as a present and within the year the whole of the insides had collapsed and within eighteen months it was dripping water all over work surface and floor when pouring. I expect this kettle to last for years and years .. as long as the 'welded-on' handle doesn't come off... I must say I would have been a lot more impressed if it had been screwed on, but maybe the screw holes would have widened in time and the handle would have come loose anyway. So, if you're undecided, my final advice is: go for it - it's slower to boil but somehow far less stressful ... :)

When my electric kettle broke (as they all seem to after 2-3 years) I went looking for a simple one: just a steel body with a traditional element. Couldn't find one. Now, it's all gimmicky blue lights, windows, flimsy plastic bases and loads of plastic filters adding their carcinogens to the water. I wanted a kettle that would last. This one is built like a tank. Yes, it takes some time to boil water, but if you only boil as much as you need, the time can be reduced. Best of all, there's nothing to break. The only moving part is the lid (stainless). And it has character - a timeless design. If any further reason is needed, water heated this way seems to be 'hotter' than that produced by an electric kettle, which makes tea much better.

Am delighted with this kettle. It is well made and makes a much better tea than my old electric kettle. It also doesn't cost anything to use as it sits on the side of my solid fuel Rayburn until needed and then rapidly comes to the boil when moved on the hot plate. I deliberately chose a kettle without a whistle as I know all boiling kettles "sing" as they comes to the boil and you can feel them vibrate through their handles once they are boiling.Am also pleased with the seller who delivered the kettle promptly and ensured it was well wrapped (just enough) to ensure it wasn't damaged during transit.

Good delivery as usual, nice shiney stainless steel slower to boil than old aluminium kettle but having used aluminium for 20 year, we will probable forget that shortly. only problem found is we use the kettle only partly filled both for need and quickness the straight spout is a problem whilst water is still boiling and you begin to pure, boiling water sperts out the spout uncontrolably which when not expected is rather dangerous.

Aesthetically pleasing -looks traditional. Well made. The body is steel, but the base is some sort of layered construction involving aluminium, which is less than ideal for anyone worried about the health effects of using aluminium. I suspect if only using for heating water and not anything acidic, and not used daily, then this is not much of an issue.

We got this kettle specifically because it has a complete flat base and we wanted to use it on an Aga. Have to say I think it’s my favourite ever kettle. Holds plenty of water but I didn’t find it heavy and it’s so quiet compared to an electric kettle. It doesn’t whistle but that really doesn’t bother me. It’s great.

I have an aga and have always had an aga kettle but at a hundred pound plus i decided to try something a bit cheaper and so i bought this kettle and to say it is so similar to the aga one but at more than half the price cheaper which suits me fine , so I am very happy and would recommend this kettle..

I love this kettle - It does exactly what 'it says on the tin'I live in a very hard water area and love the fact that de-scaling this kettle will be straight forward. I love the fact that I am no longer dealing with leads and wet work tops. This is a sturdy, well made kettle that I would recommend.

As a born again luddite, I love the way this kettle fits in perfectly on the range. The lid is the only moving part so what's to go wrong? It boils much quicker than a pan on the same heat, fills easily through the spout and pours beautifully. It even looks nice.

The kettle has a ground base which is fairly thick and boils quickly. Stainless steel with a sandwich base that's the width of the kettle for plenty of contact area, unlike some other designs. We would have liked a whistle but it's obviously not got one.

This kettle is sturdy, good looking and affordable. It gives my kitchen a country feel but would fit in with any traditional style. I find it can splutter a little if there is not much water in it when it boils but I am used to that anyway.

Bought this kettle for a new wood burning range. The range hasn't arrived yet but we are prepared!! Looks good and reminds me of my gran's kettle that used to sit on an open fire!! Nice weight to it, can't wait for our first drink.

This is just as its described it's a great looking kettle and easy to clean, do not over fill otherwise it will take a long time to boil. Just what i need in a busy farmhouse kitchen, came on time and was well packaged.

Delighted with this kettle. Holds a good volume of water which it heats very efficiently on my Rayburn, the water positively bubbles from the spout when making a cup of tea! It looks good and lives up to its appearance.

we have solar panels and I wanted a kettle to use on the gas stove when they aren't working to save using the electric one, this heavy duty kettle looks smart and will last for years unlike a cheaper one I bought
