Okay, this review is for THE STAINLESS STEEL MODEL ONLY - the coloured models appear to be very different. So with that in mind, let's talk about this bad boy. These kettles have got a lot of bad reviews over the years, but so far I'm delighted with mine, and I'd like to clear some things up.- *Yes*, the stainless steel model is stainless steel on the inside. There is no black enamel lining to crack and allow rust through. I've been using this for three weeks now and it's still spotless inside, though I'd expect to have to descale it at some point.- It *doesn't* overheat around the spout and spit water. I can see this happening if you let it boil and boil - please don't do that.Take it off the heat as soon as it has a steady whistle going. (The whistle is really super loud, by the way) I do get a few little drips around the outside of the lid when it's boiling, but they don't actually spit.- *No*, I haven't had any trouble opening up the whistle. It has a solid plastic flick switch that you bring down to open the spout. It's never been hot or e.g. released steam backwards onto my fingers.- It is *not* particularly heavy - it's actually very light, even to lift one-handed with water. I'm a tiny little woman and I feel the weight if I pour it one-handed, but not to an uncomfortable level.I should say my model has a "max level" indicator on the outside (it really should be on the inside, Le Creuset...), which may not have been present on earlier models - I think many of these issues may be down to overfilling.I am very happy with this kettle and wish I'd bought it ten years ago, instead of waiting for my electric kettle to die. It's big and chonky and looks fantastic in my kitchen. Another thing I like is that the handles on the lid and the kettle are attached with good, solid screws, so if they come loose you can just tighten them up again. The only thing I see causing problems if it ever fails is the whistle itself, and you don't really *need* a whistle.Oh, also, yes, I put it on the boost setting on my induction hob, lol, even though the manual says you shouldn't. It's perfectly happy as long as I switch it right off when the water boils, and it takes 400ml of water for tea to a full boil in 40 seconds, which is much faster than my old electric kettle. Your hobs may differ! - please be careful out there.edit - a month on I'm still very happy with this kettle. I have had it build up pressure so that water escapes from the spout if I don't take it off the heat right away - however (and I'm embarrassed to have to explain this to a class of, presumably, adults) *please don't point boiling kettles at your face or anybody else's*. Point the pressurised pot of boiling water *away* from living things. Thank you.I have had an issue where the lid became tighter over time, to the point I really struggled to open and close it. However, the lid comes completely apart. Another review mentions you can do this to drain water from it or clean it, but you can also hammer down (or out) the little bumps in the edge plate to adjust the fitting of the lid. Everything about my kettle is splendid now and we continue to get on very well.

I seem to be very unlucky with electric kettles; during the last 30 years I must have bought 12 or 15, and as the most recent one, which was £130, only lasted a week past its warranty period, I decided to go back to basics. It is surprisingly difficult to find a traditionally shaped kettle (as opposed to a dome or cone shape) that also whistles. The one that I really wanted was over £250 (yikes!) but I am very happy with this at £76. It's very substantially built, without being ridiculously heavy, and has a nice, ergonomic handle. The lid is not the usual single skin of metal, but double, therefore insulated, which probably, over the life of the kettle, will save a bit of time and power.I had anticipated that it would take ages to boil, but on a carefully regulated wok burner, I think it's as quick as my expensive Danish ex-kettle. It has an extremely loud and irritating whistle, which encourages swift action when it boils.

You need to plan ahead with this kettle (5-7 mins to boil) - it takes longer than your conventional electric kettle (2-3 mins). But you don't buy whistling kettles for speedy cuppas do you? This is all about the look and Le Creuset get it absolutely right. The handle is sturdy and robust, made of a durable plastic. The whistling part isn't as noisy as i thought it would be - but thats a good thing, in my opinion. The whistle part has a handy lid which you flip to allow the water to flow it. It has a pleasing clunk when you put it back. The lid comes off with a tug (maybe due to its young age and/or heat expansion)so that might be an issue for some people - it gets hot on the surface so you have to be careful where you touch. If you're here to see if this kettle is cheaper to run than an electric kettle then i don't think it is, but its probably marginal.

Interesting mixture of traditional design with ease of use. The polymer handle and whistle spout end are heat resistant so there's little chance of burning your fingers when you run downstairs in your shower towel to stop the whistling after more than 5 minutes of constant thudding on the wall by your irate neighbour. The flip-up nozzle looks to be robust enough, but we will have to wait and see how it holds up. The lid also has a small slot for pressure release so some steam comes out of there too. When using the kettle I recommend that this points away from your hand, as it could scald you if you are not careful.I am happy with the purchase, and would recommend it to anyone who wants a big black kettle.

I have read mixed reviews about this kettle, I can only say, I agree the lid is a little snug but it's not that difficult to open and I would rather it fits properly than not, as for limescale, that's your water unfortunately you will have that problem no matter what kind of kettle you have as that depends on where you live in the country so get a filter. I have had my kettle since 2012 and it looks as good as the day I bought it, its easy to clean, doesn't leak or drip has no rust and was worth every penny, oh and the whistle much to my husbands annoyance is wonderful. So thank you Le Crueset, from a very happy ? customer.

I love my kettle and have had it since December (Now April 2nd) You do have to take care as the water can spit out when your pouring but as long as you are sensible you will be fine. It does take longer than an electrical kettle to boil and needs to stop bubbling for a minute or so before pouring to prevent the spitting out as just mentioned. It needs a clean on the inside on a regular basis to keep the water clean and to prevent the water becoming frothy. I love it and gives such a traditional look to my kitchen and doesn't take up any worktop space. Now thinking of purchasing a smaller one for my log burner.

I was a bit dubious about ordering this because of the mixed reviews but what a wonderful buy it turned out to be!!Firstly the whistle works just fine but i think this is due to the intense heat/boil you get from an aga or similar range. Some people have commented they take an age to boil but again i think thats because they are using these on gas or conventionalelectric cookers which simply don`t create the same base heat as a range. My advise buy this for a range or alternatively fora conventional cooker go for the Kitchen Craft Le`Xpress. I bought this for my sisters gas top cooker & she loves it!!

I had this kettle already, I bought it second hand because I wasn't very keen on the price tag. However my mum let it boil dry and ruined it so I decided to buy one brand new and I love it!!! I have a love for traditional style kitchen equipment, and this is my favourite!! It looks so nice, but it also keeps water hot for longer. It is also alot easier to clean inside than most other kettles because it is essentially a pot, whereas electric kettles have the fillaments in them. However I do find that it doesn't need cleaning as much as other kettles. Most of all it's v.pretty, and v.good quality.

Having a collection of broken electric kettles in the cellar I decided enough was enough and I would go for a stove top one.I am delighted I did. Not only does it look cheery on the stove but it whistles for attention beautifully. I was concernedafter reading other reviews about the whistle but my kettle likes being noisy! This is a very well constructed product that is very well balanced. It is easy to pour even when filled to maximum - a bonusas I have arthritic hands. The grip on the handle too is excellent. All round great buy delivered super fast and well packaged.

This is a stunning Kettle and it looks lovely on the stove. It is quite heavy but thats what I love about it, its traditional.I had heard negative comments on this kettle, the whistle does whistle although its not loud, it is loud enough, just make sure that the whilstle lid is down.It boils very quickly and keeps the water hot ready for a quick reboil for the next cuppa!I have not had it long enough to see if it rusts, but I empty it when its not in use.I am very happy with this kettle and the price.

Like everything about this kettle.Sturdy and stylish.Goes in the dishwasher if it gets mucky. Not the lid though unless you are prepared to take it apart to drain out water from it.Some reviewers have complained of the spout spurting boiling water when pouring immediately off the heat source. You can avoid this by setting the kettle on a medium heat source - gas in my case - to prevent the spout getting too hot. It may take a bit longer to boil but it's worth it to prevent the risk of scalding.

Really love this kettle, I've wanted one for a long time, I previously had the cone shape one for about 6yrs but I didn't keep on top of descaling it regularly enough so it eventually leaked but I'm going to do this one regularly, it doesn't take long to boil for just one or two people so long as you remember not to overfill it, only thing I think would improve it is if the whistle were a little louder hence the four stars. I think the colour is lovely and suits the traditional style of kettle.

I HAVE AN INDUCTION HOB TO SAVE SOME ENERGY AND WAS STRUGGLING WITH BOILING WATER IN A PAN. I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS KETTLE AND USED IT STRAIGHT AWAY. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW GREAT THIS KETTLE IS. I LOVE LE CREUSET AS A WHOLE ANYWAY BUT THIS KETTLE IS REVOLUTIONARY AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT AND WOULDN'T BE WITHOUT IT.THIS KETTLE IS BUILT TO LAST!IT IS STURDY, SOLID AND BUILT LIKE AN OLD FASHION KETTLE.THE ONLY NADVICE I WOULD GIVE IS READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND NEVER OVER FILL.

We bought a cream version of this a few years ago. However, it was impossible to keep looking nice and when it received a couple of chips in the bottom it persuaded me to replace it with a black one.No problems with our old one after years of use so I presuming this will be the same. The kettle is a good size. It is sturdy. The whistle is quiet (rather than soft); it's almost seems as if the whistle doesn't work. Handle is cool even when the kettle is hot.

3.11.2013

Not as heavy as other Le Creuset pans that I have, therefore making this very useable. Once heated, it retains the water temperature for longer than an ordinary electric kettle and certainly makes a much better cup of tea.Only one word of warning though, don't pour the boiling water immediately after the whistle stops as it spurts out in all directions; wait for a minute with the spout cap up to allow the water to cool slightly.
