I purchased this kettle after two disappointing experiences with a kettle by Wescot.I am not a fan of stainless steel because of the glare and extra cleaning it requires to keep it looking good, which is why I originally purchased the Wescot, but this kettle is well made and nicely finished. So far the knob on this kettle has remained firmly stuck to the lid, which is the problem I had with the Wescot (twice). I polish this kettle about once a week with a soft cloth and it is still looking good after several months of daily use.The whistle could be a bit louder. I have tried adjusting the whistle, but it doesn't really seem to make much difference. I get a louder whistle if the kettle is full or nearly full, but I only ever boil the amount of water I require at any one time, which tends to be just for one or two cups of tea, so sometimes the whistle can be a bit pathetic... I suspect it's the force of the steam?Nonetheless, there is something endearing about a kettle that whistles. Stove kettles leave more room on your worktop and they last longer. Electric kettles always seem to need replacing every few years.I am very pleased with this purchase.NOTE: After reading several of the other reviews, I would like to add that I only ever take the whistle/spout off using an oven glove or a cloth pan holder. The handle is warm to touch not hot. I always ensure the gas is not up too high. The flames should not be licking up the sides of the kettle.

I am delighted with this kettle. It is a beautiful shape with a lovely finish. The handle is very easy to hold and, even when full, the kettle does not spill or drip when you pour out its contents. It is very easy to keep clean - just a quick wipe and rub up with dry cloth and it looks like you just took it out of the box. The whistle is extremely loud - my neighbours now know when I am having a cuppa - so you will not boil it dry. It is also very easy to remove the whistle with 2 fingers either side of the little handle which stays cool to the touch. Just wait for it to stop steaming otherwise you will burn yourself. It is important not to overfill it, or it will boil over and leave hard to remove lime deposits. Also, make sure it is on the right size stove ring. The flames should not come round the bottom rim or the stainless steel will discolour. I use my smallest ring and the kettle still boils within 3 minutes when filled to capacity. Re delivery and packing - took about 7 - 10 days for it to come but it was worth waiting for and excellently packaged. Very reasonable price too, compared to other sites offering the same item. Recommend both the item and the company.

Having got fed up of searching what seemed like hundreds of kettles online, three days ago I ordered this Judge kettle based on the many positive reviews it has received, and I haven't been disappointed. I was very pleasantly surprised when it arrived yesterday, though I had asked for normal free delivery. Amazon's packaging was good and the kettle was well protected in its own stout box, and it and the whistle were each wrapped in plastic bags.I had wondered about the sense of paying so much for a simple kettle for my gas cooker, but saw at once that the money was there in the quality. It has a thick base (marked as suitable for all hobs, including induction) with an efficiency "skirt".The polished stainless steel body is handsome, with a modest 2L mark under and to the right of the spout. The phenolic handles are comfortable; they both warm a little, but be careful when removing the whistle - I agree with others that it is wise to use a cloth.Early days for me, but I expect this kettle to last for many years, unlike the numerous unrepairable electric jug kettles I've discarded over the years.

Over the years we've endured far too many sub-standard kettles, both electric and hob top. We have despaired of burnt out electrics, foul plastic tasting water, whistles that don't work, handles that burn the hand, problems in filling from filter jugs - the list goes on.....Almost in desperation we decided to push the boat out and go for this Judge model. Let's face it, this is not the cheapest option for a basic stove top metal whistler but acting on the almost unanimously positive reviews we bought one.Early days so far but the initial results are excellent. The kettle is well built & has a pleasing design that looks the part on the hob. While big enough for the job it's neither heavy nor unwieldly and it's functional in both filling and pouring. We've had no trouble handling the potentiallyhot bits and, most importantly, it's a quickish boiler leaving no after-taste in the water.Final big plus point - it packs a whistle that would wake the dead!!Is it worth around £35? We think so and if it's still going strong in 12 months time, we'll give it a fifth star.

I have found this kettle to be well made, pleasant to handle, with a close fitting but not difficult lid. It looks very nice on the gas hob and boils with due speed - my time to boil is a bit longer than other gas hob reviews because my cooker is a very old Moffat Discovery which interposes a ceram glass disk between the flame and the kettle, and slows thing down a bit. Also, I wish to mention some excellent service from the supplier, Horwood. I had an accident with the whistle, whose knob got cooked by coming to rest near the flame unnoticed. They sent me a new one, gratis and with no questions asked. Postage free even! Rather good, I think. Recommended.

One of the best stove-top kettles l have ever had. Plumped for a 'cheapy' last time l needed to replace and was that a mistake! This kettle is ideal for my use - whistles loud (appreciated as lounge is 2 x rooms away from the kitchen) Very good to pour with; no splashing or dripping. Have learnt to be a little bit careful how l take the whistle off - l tried to remove it immediately after a boil and l got caught with a bit of steam but this has now been mastered, but all be aware (just in case). Overall this is a brilliant kettle - not a 'flimsy', but not heavy either. 25year guarantee on workmanship, etc. which proves Judge are one of the best.

When my last rapid boil electric kettle failed (Plastic lid catch broken)I decided rather than waste more money on a noisey badly made expensive product I would go back to a basic kettle and make more use of the hob on my oven. This has turned out to be an excellent decision. This kettle is very well made and of the highest quality. It is very quiet until nearing boiling and still much less noise than the electric kettles. Thanks to the Whistle you soon know when it is boiling, brilliant! The only negative (very minor issue) compared to most current electric kettles is measuring how much water is in the kettle.Best buy I have made in years.

Looks good.Does not drip or spill.Quite compared to electric kettle until it starts to whistleOuter base diameter 19cm, (what you see in the picture), but the actual part that touches the hob has a diameter of 15cm.boil time for 2 pintson large ring ceramic halogen , nearly 6 minson large ring induction, 3 minselectric kettle 2:40 mins (tried two different makes)some say it get very hot to handle, i have not found this to be the case. The whistle has two slots, make sure these are horizontal, so stream does not go onto handle. When boiled remove from heat for 10-15 seconds then you should not need to use a cloth. it works for me.

I ordered this Dec 2011 and am absolutely delighted with it. I used to have a Le Cresuset Kone kettle but the whistle was useless - so low you couldn't hear it properly unless you stayed in the kitchen, which is how it came to burn itself out. So I was keen to get a kettle with a good loud whistle & this one really delivers - I can hear when it from the sitting room with the TV on. It seems well made & the whistle and lid come off easily but fit well when on. It does take a little longer than an electric kettle but the water reaches a proper boiling point unlike my old electric kettle - & it frees up worktop space. I love it.

This is a great kettle but be warned - the handle becomes very hot very quickly. Having said that, I would still buy this kettle but you will need to use a cloth or similar to hold the handle. My hands are pretty well used over the years to handling hot pans etc but this was slightly too much for me and I had to use an oven cloth the first time I used it and continuing. The kettle heats quickly and it looks very stylish. Obviously not as fast as an electric kettle but I bought it to, hopefully, reduce the amount of energy I use - and it will be great when there are the inevitable winter (and occasionally) summer power cuts.

I bought this kettle to use on my newly installed induction hob. I couldn't have made a better choice than this Judge Kettle: it looks great; is robust but not heavy; the handle is well designed and does not heat up; the whistle and lid are easy to remove; it pours well with no drips. It is easy to thoroughly clean the interior of the inevitable build up of limescale. Finally: this kettle looks great and on the induction hob it heats water faster and quieter than an electric kettle. This product merits all the positive comments made by others awarding it five stars. Highly recommended

I bought this kettle on 16th march, and i noticed a small crack on the whistle, i emailed the seller and sent pictures of the crack and they said they would send me a replacement and so they did very quickly i can't praise them enough, The kettle is very good, it's my first stainless steel kettle, and i think its well worth the price, i use it on gas stove but mostly on a solid fuel range with no problem, the whistle might not suit everybody as it has a sharp sound but at least you know it is boiling if you are in another room, I hope this review helps and i will update it if needed.

Bought this kettle to replace my old aga kettle, the whistle no longer worked and hard to get descaled because of age and hard water in our area. Chose this kettle for looks, size, reviews said effective whistle and price. It has a very effective whistle, good fitting lid and for the money works very well on the aga. In my opinion not worth paying for more expensive kettles. Also I do not like the traditionally styled aga kettle. My old kettle was a modern design which is no longer made by aga.

Very pleased with our purchase. We converted to using a hob kettle after our last electic kettle broke and I can say I won't go back to using electric after this. Handle doesn't get hot, it's easy to pour. Catch the whistle early though, as it gets really loud - we can hear it from the other floor of the house!! Just a word of caution, always take the nozzle off with a tea towel or cloth as the steam will spit out and scald.

After reading other peoples reviews I was confident that this would have a loud enough whistle for my mother to use, as she is hard of hearing. She is delighted with it!I did link together a few metal key fob rings and fitted them onto the kettle handle - then fitted the other end of the chain to some picture wire around the neck of the whistle. Basically she she can't lose the whistle now!A very good buy!
