Don't expect all-mod-cons with this quirky kettle. We've had ours for nearly 20 years (it's a slightly earlier version to the one shown here but the general spec is the same). We're still very happy with it but if you're used to slick modern plastic electric kettles then you'll have quite a bit to get used to.Good stuff:*If you have a stove (Aga, Rayburn or similar) running all the time then you can just leave this on the warming plate. Give you warm water immediately (useful when cooking) and boiling water very fast when moved to the hot plate.*It's a handsome, robust attractive item. Much nicer to have on display all day than a normal kettle, and no curly power lead cluttering up the surface.*The handle flip-flops to one side,so it stays upright when the kettle is on the heat but you simply shove it out the way when filling the cold kettle or washing out the interior (we have fairly soft water now so it doesn't get too scaly, but at our old house the kettle did quickly develop a layer of fur / limescale which needed a good scrubbing out once a week or so*The exterior and interior finish on ours has been impeccable. It gets spattered with all sorts of cooking goop, because it sits on the stove all day, but cleans up v quick with a warm/wet cloth*Great range of colours, much more interesting than old-style white goods!Odd stuff:*When it's just boiled / still boiling, the hot water does tend to 'sputter' out of the spout. Best to give it 10secs to cool slightly before pouring*It's really tricky to remove the lid from the kettle when it's hot without exposing your hand to scalding steam. We fill it through the spout straight from the lap*The wee whistle thing didn't last long in our household. But we haven't missed it!Not cheap either, but our will probably last us for the rest of our lives.8/10

We've had none of the problems the other reviews have stated. The whistle works perfectly, in fact it can become very loud if let to whistle for a bit too long. The water pours perfectly out of it with no spitting of boiling water. The people that mention that the handle gets hot, to me it sounds like they have not put the lid on properly which can be a little stiff at times. Its never been a problem for us, both the handle being hot or problems with the lid being stiff...all it does it make sure its secure which I'd personally sacrifice a little stiffness for. As for someone stating it takes longer than a electric kettle, well of course it will what else would you expect? We bought this because we love Le Creuset products. They are known for high quality stylish wear that lasts a long time, which is exactly what this is. It does exactly what you want it to do to and I have no doubt it will last us for a long time. We used to have an electric kettle, a very expensive one actually that was bought as a wedding gift. We found even that one didn't last long and soon started to look warn. This kettle not only cost less but is still looking as good as the day we bought it. We have a lot of confidence that it will last much longer than the last kettle. We actually prefer using a kettle on the hob, there are benefits to it not being electric for example not taking up valuable work top space and electric plugs.Highly recommended, excellent product from Le Creuset!

The Le Creuset 1.6L Kone Kettle is an enamel on steel stove top kettle. It comes in a range of colours with a black stay cool handle and lid and has a 5 year warranty. I purchased the kettle having been frustrated with the quality and reliability of electric kettles. This Kone kettle is very simple, having a manual lid and no plastic parts. It is sturdy and quite to boil. The whistle starts very gently once the water starts to boil avoiding any obtrusive noise. Being a stove top kettle it takes a little bit longer to boil than an electric equivalent but not excessively so. The wide base means it is large enough to heat on any of the stove top rings giving it flexibility whilst cooking other dishes. The 1.6L capacity will boil sufficient water for around 4 drinks, depending on mug size. If filling the kettle according to instructions, with the maximum water level below the internal spout holes, neither the handle or spout gets hot. The kettle is well balanced, making it easy to pour and hold whilst filling. The only negative for me is that it would benefit from some internal markings to denote water levels for filling efficiently. The inside of the kettle is black enamel so it can be difficult to see the spout holes for the maximum fill. A white enamel internal marker for 0.5L, 1L and 1.5L would be really useful. That said, I am extremely happy with the this kettle and would rate it as one of the kitchen best purchases I have made in some time.

As a long time lover of stove top whistling kettles, I can safely say, I have bought my last kettle. The beautiful build quality and workmanship means I am anticipating this kettle to last at least 20 years plus despite only having a 5 year gaurentee. The handle stays cool and is easy to use. Although the handle is rivetted on - it is solid and my husband assures me the rivets are strong and secure but easily replacable should I break them (He is very handy though) I like that I can fill from the lid or the spout but you have to take some care when filling at the spout as it can gush back if the water flow is forceful. It is reassuring heavy but not too heavy that my weak wrists and poorly hands struggle. It is surpirisingly quick to heat water and I think that is due to its clever wide base. This wide base also means the fill level is below the spout so you don't get and splashes or spitting whilst it is boiling or tipping. Finally, I love the whistle - it is loud and insistent making it impossible to ignore or forget. Do I wish I had bought it in the volcanic orange - absolutely - it would have matched all my Le cruset pots but I was worried about chipping the enamel over time and thought that the mirror finish will still look good in 20 years time evn if it dulls & scratches or stains. Thanx Le cruset for a lovely kettle.

I bought this retro-hippy kettle little over a month ago, for our new home. It is a great addition to the kitchen, it looks fantastic and it obviously does the job, not taking any more or less time than a normal electric kettle. Then you've got that whistle to let you know when boiled. Ahh. Also you'll find that over time, no limescale will build up at all. So, what more could you want? The ONLY real criticism I have is that it doesn't really hold that much water compared to other kettles, if you try filling it up much over the line (really 1.6L??) then the whistle won't work as loudly. I guess if you're standing by then it doesn't really matter, bar the possible overflow. It does require a hob - so if you are a doing a lot of cooking at the same time then remember the kettle needs heat! Also I am not too sure how economical/green they areSo is it really worth the money you pay for it? Depends on how much you like kettles. We are delighted with it, and we are, believe it or not, relatively sane people, not obsessive kettle maniacs. But all in all, if you're looking for a kettle with class, or if you simply want to be notified when the kettle is boiled (I can hear the whistle all over our cottage) then THIS is the kettle for you.

I brought this kettle, even after reading alot of bad reviews, however being a loyal creuset customer, I decided to buy the kettle, and try it for myself. If you are looking for a smart 'on the Hob' kettle, then this is ideal, however it seems people are too much comparing it too an electric kettle. The kettle can be very easily cleaned, so its good to be able to keep the limescale away, without the hassle of cleaning an electric kettle. Yes it can spit a little when boiling, but I havnt come across a hob kettle that doesn't, but this aside, with mine it has not been akward to pick the kettle up once it has boiled. The outer shelf off the kettle is easy to keep shiney, and there does not seem to be any problem with rust. The kettle looks smart, and does eactly what you want from a hob kettle. In terms of boiling, dependant how many drinks you are making, if you fill it to the correct amount of water, it doesnt take long to boil at all, and boils quickly when placed back onto the hob if you fancy another cuppa.Overall im very happy with my Kone Kettle.

I bought this conical kettle from Le Crueset 'cos I have a similar coloured casserole - had it for years - and it's lasted and lasted and lasted. The kettle is a nice warm orange colour and is well made with a close fitting lid, that stays put when I pour, a comfortable handle that pivots neatly out of the way when you need to fill the kettle and then stays still come pour time. The kettle works perfectly on my induction hob and when part filled with enough water for my cafetiere, takes under 2 minutes to come to the boil. It looks good on my kitchen counter & overall, I'm pleased with my purchase. However the chrome lip round the spout may look good, but unfortunately, contributes to the kettle's inability to pour water without dribbling hither and thither. Not Le Creuset's finest moment, I fear! Not a deal breaker but a shame the designers couldn't get the pour right, considering the quality and cost of the product.

This kettle is lovely, it had a nice whistle- not too intrusive. It holds a decent amount to easily make 4 big full cups (denby cups), something which I was worried it would not be capable of doing based on the 1.6l maximum fill. You can fill it more but it will spit out boiling hot water at you and all over the hob (I accidentally did this!) once it's boiled. There is no need to over fill it though. My only niggle is that if you are needing to refill the kettle soon after boiling for first time it is a little difficult to get the lid off as it gets hot and is quite stiff to take off. Not a big problem though, easily rectified with a tea towel over hands. So glad we got this kettle and not the bigger one Le Creuset one as this is more than adequate for the job and looks more contemporary which fits our new kitchen perfectly.

Sheer elegance on the stove and frees up precious counter space taken up by a traditional kettle!COLOUR - CERISE REDI have two of these, which I alternate. Both were acquired in 2004 and I have not experienced any of the problems that other reviewers have commented on. I do tend to use them for smaller amounts of water...... for beverages rather than boiling larger amounts for cooking....and, mine whistle away, although not particularly piercingly, which suits me!Stylish looking and suitable for all heat sources, including ceramic and induction, the base conducts heat evenly across the wide bottom and up the sides of the kettle, quickly heating the water.Tight-fitting lid and folding/locking handle aids safety.Sturdily boxed with full instructions supplied, this would make an ideal gift.

Bought this for our daughter-in-law as she loves Le Creuset. It's certainly a pretty little kettle that's for sure but when I used it the handle gets pretty hot, too hot in my opinion. It's ok so long as you know otherwise your in for a surprise. The kettle is not heavy but then it of course not iron like other Le Creuset products, it's says the capacity is 1.6l but the water max fill level is pretty low, OK for 3 maybe 4 mugs at a push. I have a Stellar farmhouse hob kettle 2.0l, personally I prefer that although it has no whistle like the Le Creuset and the chrome takes more cleaning for sure. I'm not sure if the Kone kettle will stand the test of time, I certainly hope it does and lives up to the name. All Le Creuset products seem to be mega prices, I just feel there mostly overpriced.

Read other reviews with following comments:1) Yes the lid is extremely tight - spent about twenty minutes continually removing and replacing lid until it became "reasonable easy" to remove and replace. If you are elderley or anyway impaired you will definitely have difficulty with the lid. This is the only reason the kettle did not receive the full 5 stars.2) Whisle level - the small chrome inset in the spout can be rotated easily to vary the "pitch" of the whistle. I find it quite useful to adjust the pitch by rotating the inset according to the level I require.Overall - usual Amazon super fast service (delivery, etc.)and I am very pleased with this item - would recommend providing you are capable of removing lid.

Purchased this kettle with the intent of using it on the top of our log burner , first impressions kettle is very well made looks super in gloss black ,alot of reviews comment on how hard the lid is to remove this is true but to be honest if for some reason the kettle did get knocked off the top of stove i would imagine this would contain most of the steaming hot water inside which would not be a bad thing , takes 45 minutes to boil when filled to the highest level but only 15 minutes when only 3 cups of water are put in so overall me and the wife are happy with kettle should save us money rather than boiling the electric kettle every half hour , would recommend for sure

I have coveted a stove-top kettle for a very long time, & decided to purchase this Le Creuset one as it was at such a good price. It is beautiful & matches the tiles in my kitchen. It's easy to fill, has a sturdy handle so the kettle is steady when you pour.....But the best thing is its whistle. Oh! The memories that sound evokes: being in my mamgu's (Welsh grandmother) house, she in her wrap-around apron, in the kitchen making a pot of tea. Lovely! It doesn't take long to boil & it's easy to clean, & if you're worried about its weight, well, it's nowhere near as heavy as Le Creuset casserole pots so is easy to handle. An excellent purchase that has made me very happy.

I've had this kettle for almost 3 years now and absolutely love it. It looks good and boils water - what more could you want? It's never given me any problems and I've never had any issues with the whistle (still working well), spilling during pouring or with overfilling. I make about 5-6 cups of tea a day - more at the weekend. It can be a bit difficult to see the holes inside as the interior is black, but it doesn't take long to refine your judgement to get the water level right - afterall, it's not rocket science - it's a kettle!Overall I am extremely happy with the kettle and would highly recommend it.
