I am a Salomon devotee having previously used their shoes and boots for the past 20 years to walk footpaths and trails in the national parks of the UK and USA. These are another example of fIrst rate walking shoes for this purpose. Comfortable right out of the box and sturdily made.I do like a snug trainer like fit (see later) but as others have observed these shoes do come up small. Normally I am a UK size 9. I ordered a pair of size 9.5 and a pair of size 10 using Amazon’s excellent Prime Wardrobe scheme. I ended up keeping the size 9.5 and returning the 10’s. I think this is a long standing peculiarity of Salomon’s lace up shoes. I checked the size of an old pair of Salomon shoes I have,

A walking shoe/ boot hybrid.These shoes have the lower profile of a trainer but the support of a boot.They are light, weighing in as less than my trainers, but still manage to pack in the features of a walking boot. The sole is “contagrip”, which is a new name on me, but I can see and feel that it has excellent grip and a deep tread.The upper is a mixture of goretex material and leather detailing. This gives you a strong, waterproof shoe. It is well padded around the heel and ankles or comfort.The lacing system is 3 gorges loops, followed by a long leather loop along the top of the foot and an eyelet at the top. This allows you to get a good fit from the shoe.The base of the shoe has excellent cushioning,

My son is an eight and these fit him perfectly. I understand, from looking at other reviews, that some people have found these small, but I have measured them against other shoes that my son has, and they look the same in terms of length. As such, I am a little confused, but he says they are comfortable and fit well, so I will have to conclude that we were lucky with the fit of these. They do look a trifle narrow, compared to some trainers, but he has a fairly narrow foot, so that wasn’t a problem.The shoe is fairly light, but is stiffer and more supportive than normal trainers. They are also waterproof and were ideal when he recently had to go on a nature walk at school – light, comfortable and dry.

As everyone else seems to point out, these shoes are on the tight side. So you need to order larger than you normally would. I am usually a size 11, but bought these in a size 11.5 UK. They are just right size wise so reading the posts of others helped a lot. The actual shoes are top quality as you would expect from Salomon, the esoles are really stiff and they are excellent for hill walking in dry weather when you do not need/want your boots on. I have done a couple of weeks in them and had no issues breaking them in. They were a little tight at first but after a couple of 10k walks had bedded in nicely. I am expecting these to go through a couple of summers hopefully.

Still a good buy but having bought many Salomons over several years, I think there is a dip in quality. Firstly they have made the tongue smaller and sometimes if you tie too quickly the laces slip over it. The laces themselves are made of material that slips too easily and you really have to double knot them all the time. The material is not as waterproof as all my previous pairs and soon needed proofing with Nikwax shoe proofer. In the past I always swore by Solomon as a brand and loved their quality. Now they are average and no better than other cheaper brands.

Full confession: I don't do a lot of hiking! I got these as I knew I was going to be doing a lot of walking on a school residential trip and wanted something to wear that would be sturdy and comfortable.Having spent a week in these from sun up to sun down I can confirm that they tick the boxes on both of those fronts. They have an attractive design and more than stood up to their task.I usually take a size 10 and found these were a perfect fit.

Like other reviewers, I found these to be somewhat snug. I think if you have narrow feet, and generally find that shoes come up a little large, these should be fine for you. Buyer beware otherwise!That said, these are worthy of the Salomon brand reputation - well structured soles, waterproof outers, great for knocking about in outdoors! I have no doubt they will last for some time, and if they fit, would be great rugged footwear for some time.

I rather like these shoes, mainly because, while having plenty of detail, they are rather understated, but also because they are very light in weight. They appear to be well made, but of course only time will tell how they stand up to wear.However, they do seem to come up exceptionally small for their sizing, and while the size sent is within my size range I can barely get them on, and they are certainly too small to wear.

In the heat of the moment of grabbing the last review copy for my hubby, I didn’t see the reviews saying how narrow they are! Suffice to say I put my girlie socklessvbsize five but take a six for width feet in. Because I had the whole width of the prevtoe section, they felt tight but comfy (not sure how tight they will be with socks. It has a tough tread and a comfy bouncy inside sole. Just only for the narrow footed.

These are a good quality, rugged pair of hiking style trainers. Very comfortable to wear over extended periods I've been more than happy with them. I usually wear a 9.5 size but have found these to be a perfectly acceptable fit so there's a possibility that the sizing may be just a tad on the smaller size - just something to keep in mind.Overall though I would be happy to recommend.

These are beautifully made and with very grippy soles, perfect for walking, on a well padded sole. There is some give on the width with the laces, but they are a narrow fit. You definitely need to size up a half size at least. Good shoes for walking, especially as water resistant, but be careful with sizing or risk disappointment.

Had a pair I bought in 2015 and worn them out they must have walked 1million steps each ! Still perfect but worn out. I bought the size 10 repeat shoes and found them v tight compared with the previous pair of the same size. I'm hoping they give a little but they are the same quality and hopefully will last another 4 years !!!

Definitely a masculine show, rather than a unisex style.Quite small, would suggest going up half a size.Waterproof within reason, obviously these are not winter/wet weather hiking boots so no crossing fords in them but fine for wet grass, beaches etc.

I like to go flashing up the graveyard and along the canal. These shoes are just great for this. I can sit in the bushes for hours without getting cold feet and I can take off like a whippet wearing them, even with my drawers round my ankles.

I’ve bought Salomon trainers for 20 years and never been disappointed.Lightweight and waterproof with great grip.This pair are a little on the small side even though nominally my size.I’m hoping they’re going to stretch a little.
