I'm wary about buying footwear online but....These are a genuine UK size 13 (48.5 or 32cm) so they fit accurately. Wide fit when the optional volume adjusters are left out. This is also good on my giant plates of meat. Snug on heel so they don't slip and cause blisters. No crease areas or pressure points. Full rubber rand. Salewa offers a printed "blister free" guarantee subject to proper lacing and good socks. Have now used them for three days/ 25 miles in t' lakes. They proved 100% waterproof, comfortable and supportive on rough paths. The only downsides are that mud sticks to the matt rubber rand like mud to a blanket; but the soles offer only average grip on algae covered rock.Maybe the two types of rubber have been accidentally mixed up. More like a low climbing boot than yer typical walking trainer. However, unlike a boot, you can safely drive and run in them. This is what I wanted but be aware if you're expecting something more bendy. Overall pretty impressive although not sure about the bright orange laces. The only worthwhile upgrade might be a set of custom insoles at £30. Have already tried a pair of Foot Active (Aussie) sorbothane ones from another pair of shoes. These get rid of the hard spot under each heel and support the arches better. Think I'll therefore leave them in.There's also a non-waterproof version of the shoe at around £40 less if you want them for summer use.

Having worn these shoes for the last 6 months or so I can thoroughly recommend them for most uses you can think of.I have been travelling for the last 6 months and didn't want a heavy, bulky hiking boot but something more versatile. These have coped with everything I have thrown at them, whether it be rain, snow, mud, sand or baking heat. They are thoroughly comfortable whether using for a day trek or throwing on to go to the shops. The waterproofing has held up well and I have only now felt like I should renew it with a spray (having fully submerged them falling into a stream). The only time I have had a problem with them was in SE Asia with the hot, humid weather causing my feet to get very hot and sweaty, but this is an unfortunate property of gore-tex footwear in these conditions and no fault of the shoes themselves.I am always weary about buying shoes online, especially from brands I have not used before because of sizing discrepancies, but these seemed bang on with my usual sizing (UK 8.5) and they come with semi adjustable insoles which were great in getting the perfect fit of the shoe.Excellent quality shoe, would thoroughly recommend.

Great, tough approach shoes.Own a number of pairs of approach shoes, preferring them to boots for the majority of mountain excursions. The Mountain Trainers aren’t as grippy as my Five Ten Tennie’s or La Sportiva TX4’s, but as the rubber isn’t as soft should last a lot longer - they are still an awful lot better than most boots and can easily accomplish hard scrambles/easy climbs.Sole is intentionally quite stiff so gives great confidence on rockier terrain, and are better suited to this environment than for general countryside walks. Yet to test waterproofing but would envisage this would be fine.Would have given 5 stars but first pair had defect in lacing eyelets but were promptly exchanged by Amazon.Recommended for scrambling, via ferrata, and any other more gnarly mountain adventures.

Having worn these for the second time I am finding that when bending my left food, the bend in the shoe is pushing into the join of my big toe. It's thoroughly annoying and a quite painful. The heel doesn't rub and they are comfortable, but until the shoe softens in the toe region I will not be happy.Update Feb 21 2018 - I wore these in Sweden a year ago and they were brilliant, no foot problems for the 122km fjallraven classic walk, I still have them today for hiking in the peaks, thinking of getting a new pair as these have lost some of their waterproofness.

This shoe is build like a tank. I suspect they'll last a few years of heavy use. The shoe is very well designed and constructed and quite comfortable, except the sole is so stout it deters the real glove fit of more flexible soles. However, as a mountain trekking shoe, this is hard to beat. On par with Garmont, etc. in my view. Very good quality product.

Just wicked. I’ve tried pretty much every make and model of walking shoe and I’d say this is one of the very best. It’s certainly the best considering the price. Fab quality which I would guess is going to last a very long time even given a very tough life!

These mtn approach shoes are bomb proof, super steardy, good support, excellent grip, fully waterproof and really comfy, I have lots of Mammut approach shoes which r excellent and the salewa mnt trainer is right up there! Would highly recommend.

Love these shoes! They are never off my feet. I would advise that folks in the UK get a half size larger than they would normally as they seem a little small made.Off for a walk now to enjoy them some more

Chose Euro 40.5 from drop down list and when added to basket then said UK6.5. Upon arrival the label on the shoe said Euro 40.5 UK 7. Use the Salewa size guide not the Amazon one to get the right fit.

Good fit for narrow feet, very hard sole so great for rocky terrain but that is all, very sloppy on mud and tarmac. They are quite heavy but you get used to them.

26.8.2015

Even with two lasts available they are snug for wide feet but excellent if you have a medium wide foot. With my wide feet I bought a half size bigger than ususal

26.9.2019

Very good quality and well supported. I am normally a UK size 11 but 11.5 was best fit for me even without thick walking socks.

3.12.2016

Very good. Still wearing them in but they are a good fit and seem well made. Should be though as they were very expensive.

Great shoes, I'm glad that I made this choice. This is my first pair from salewa but I'm already a fan of the brand.
