I've worn out three pair of the Alp Trainer. In the past I've given 5 star reviews for these boots because they were so awesome...well, not these EXACT boots, because Selewa has changed the design. The new design isnt as robust as the old style. Less torsional support, and just a weaker feeling boot all around. I have an older design that's nearing the end, and they still have noticeably more support than my new pair, yet I can't really feel any weight difference between the two. Seems like you find the perfect boot, and it either gets discontinued, or "improved" upon to the point that it's not the same boot. I'll put 'em through the paces and see how they hold up.EDIT 3/16/17: O.K.,I've worn these boots nearly every day over the past 3 months and, in spite of the changes I still really like them! My previous opinion still stands, but the boots haven't been "improved" upon to the point that I'll write them off. Still really comfortable. Have to wait and see if they wear as well as the "pre-improved" boot.EDIT 10/25/18: I’ve definitely put these boots through the wringer, from the Sierra Nevadas to the coastal range in Ca, to the rocky deserts and mountains of Southern Az. Holy crap, these boots just won’t die. I still miss the support of the originals as you def. feel every pebble, but dang, these boots are still tough! They are narrow, as are my feet, so I find them an excellent fit. If you have a high volume foot, these might not be for you.

I chose the Salewa Dropline Gtx because they have all the features I was looking for and were offered here at trekkinn at an unbeatable price. The package was delivered within 3 days, which made me happy (I ordered something here for the first time). I took the shoes 1 size bigger and they fit perfectly with hiking socks. They are very light and look stylish. Now to the wearing properties: the sole is surprisingly high for an outdoor shoe at first, and I was worried that I might twist my way while walking. The first time I was worn, I was convinced of the opposite: the shoes are super comfortable - you have the feeling of walking on clouds! And the foot is very stable in the shoe.Running in was also not necessary. There were no pressure marks or anything else. The laces are exceptionally thin but appear to be of sturdy quality. I tested them on mud, stony and wet ground - great grip! No slipping! A very clear buy recommendation from me! For the shoe and the supplier.

I listened to everyone else on the reviews and ordered a half size up (11)... Mistake. Ended up exchanging and ordering my regular shoe size (10.5) and fit perfect. Maybe for people that don't intend to use these shoes for climbing then go a half size up but a finger or two of room at the end of your shoe is no bueno when you are climbing. It's a pretty narrow shoe so I could see people with wide feet having issues. But yet again it's supposed to double as a climbing shoe so somewhat expected.Haven't gone hiking in them yet so not sure of the comfort level for long hikes but I think they will do great. Will update to confirm. So far so good, they are comfortable, look awesome and will serve as a great approach/hiking shoe.Would recommend and will most likely get another pair when these wear through. Hope this helps!

Basically I'm using these boots in the Dolomites over a 5 day trek on via ferrata. Using liner sock and over sock. Terrain is full on from scree to ascent. These boots are perfect for this type of hiking providing both the right level of rock grip akin to climbing shoes with the durability comfort and sturdiness to sustain a pounding in descent...I'm not a light man in terms of weight circa 17 stone. I highly recommend these for the alps more than good enough for the uk. Also used in wales...I did blister on first use but that's my fault not the boots - feet to soft. Always use liner sock and light hikers over sock. You can also tape feet with zinc oxide med tape. On heals and balls of feet etc.Don't blame the boots!! Especially if the are as well designed as Salewa. This is a serious make..

I have worn many different boots for hiking over the years. I was skeptical at first because the boot is a cross of a shoe and a boot. I have worn this boot for the past 6 months in all conditions and can say this is by far the best all around boot I've ever worn. I now own two pairs because I liked them so much, not because the first pair is wearing out. These do take some getting used to. They make a clunking noise at first when you walk but it goes away, give it time. I definetly recommend going up a half size if you intend to use both insoles as I do. These boots keep the water out but my feet do sweat quite a bit in them which is not abnormal for waterproof boots. The vibram soles are excellent and have held up very well with minimal wear and no cracks or splits.

As someone who still has and wears / rotates among 4 different pairs of 1992-93 made in Italy Vasque Sundowner boots (not the cheap junk that has since come out of China), I recently purchased a pair of these Salewa's to introduce into the rotation a more lightweight but still capable boot for daily usage thus saving the soles on my Vasque's.Took out the insoles and put some Superfeet Orange's in and now a good boot has been made great for daily wear and also give some occasional backup relief to my pair of mountain biking shoes. Shoes made in Vietnam have typically held up better/longer compared to the lax / many shortcuts in Chinese manufacturing so I'm expecting these Salewa's to perform ok and for less than $144 (with tax)I'm pretty happy thus far.

I wanted to wait until I had some miles on these before chiming it. I now have approx. 250 miles on them and have to say, honestly and without any doubt they are my favorite boot I have EVER owned. Lightweight, with the comfort of a slipper, the laced up feel of a sneaker, with a hiking boot sole. More support than a trail runner but you are more nimble and can move faster than a typical hiking boot. I hike in San Diego so I have no idea how they do on wet/slippery surfaces. I actually bought a backup pair for fear they might not be available when the time comes. I basically have 3 pairs of hiking boots, these are my light weight ones. Be warned; they run narrow (which I personally like)and small (order up a half size).

First off, these boots are narrow, but that works for me - my feet are somewhere between a C and D in width. I find these ALP Trainer Mids to be the most comfortable and best fitting of my small collection of hiking boots, which includes boots from Asolo, Keen, and Salomon. I have NOT worn these out for any hiking or backpacking adventures yet, so I cannot comment on their durability in that regard. They are doing alright by me for the simple things I've put them through so far. You know how you might have some everyday carry items, like a wallet, watch, cell phone, pocket knife, etc.? In that regard, these are my everyday footwear. I like their appearance, love their fit; I put them on and get out the door.

I searched and searched for a pair of walking shoes for a trekking holiday in moderately rough terrain. Eventually I was introduced to these Salewa shoes by a trained (so rare) salesman at my local branch of Cotswolds. They came up small, I'm wearing an 8 when my normal shoe size is 7. However the fit is perfect for my feet. Plenty of toe room, no heel rubbing. They accommodate my mild supination without inserts. Best of all, I have absolute confidence in their grip. During the trip we often found ourselves climbing up and down narrow rocky paths to and from rivers, for example. I was able to stand firm and help others on the path. I love these shoes, well worth the extra cost.

When my old discontinued Lowa boots finally gave up the ghost I began my search for a well constructed, supportive, and stylish low hiking shoe. I use my boots for work, hiking, and casual wear and prefer good arch support and flexible lacing. I found all these attributes and more in these Salewa Wildfire GTX boots. As my size varies from 10.5-12, depending on the shoe I ordered them in 11.5 and 11, which allowed me to compare. After selecting the 11, I've found the fit to be perfect! I can't assess them for long term service as they're new, but I'll probably order a second pair in case they're discontinued.

I frickin' LOVE THESE SHOES!!!! Period. Hard sole. Feet feel planted. Ankles have never rolled once. They clean up very easy and still look new after many wet muddy adventures. They really are waterproof. These kicks are awesome all around. One of the best things I've ever purchased - I feel these were a worthy investment.Fit is exactly my foot size. At first I tried a half size up... but they didnt fit right.. I ordered my exact foot size and they fit snug but just right. I had to try a few different lacing techniques to get the right comfort. I think my high arched feet have something to do with that.

I can't recommend these highly enough - I panic bought these a few days before a weekend of hiking and wild camping as the boots I'd purchased a couple of weeks earlier had suddenly started to really hurt whilst trying to wear them in. I had low expectations (especially as shoe sizing can vary so much and I wouldn't get to try them on) but not only did they fit perfectly, they were exceptionally comfortable throughout a weekend of hiking and scrambling, kept the water out very well and didn't even require any wearing in. I'd love a pair with more subtle colours but hey ho!

I can base my assessment on the first 2 hikes with this shoe - great! Mixed and challenging routes, rather gravelly, in some sections only rocks. I felt very comfortable, good grip. At the end of each outing when I take off my boots it is as if he had not worn them, foot and ankles without any pain. I didn't face wet sections, so I can't say anything about waterproofing. I admit that the comparison should be made with a higher cost boot, maybe you could find a better grip on gravel terrain, but today I can say that I would buy it again without thinking about it.

i tried out my new boots today with 8+ mile hike to some lakes at 11,000 feet. Very comfortable lightweight boots, especially since I only had about 2 miles on them when I started. Easy break in! We experienced melting snow, very wet trails, and a fair amount of rock scrambling; I loved the great grip these boots provided as well as how waterproof they are. I nearly always wear a 10 1/2 in both shoes and boots, these boots fit very well. My feet are a bit wide and there was plenty of room in the toes and a snug fit elsewhere. Just what I wanted.

With my lifestyle, I gravitate toward products that tend to be of good quality. Some boots don't hold up to the wear and tear of everyday use. That or don't work as advertised. Salewa Alp Trainer Mid GTX Boots are the real deal. They look great (I bought the black on black), they wok as advertised (Very water resistant) and they clean up very easy. Last but not least, they feel fantastic. I'm into my 2nd month of constant use and they still feel like the first day I got them. I'm actually thinking of buying another pair in another color.
