Here my review after 8 days of use in the Swiss Alps during a snowy vacation, with 60 kms of hiking between snow-covered trails, woods and alpine snow-free terrain:PROS:- WATERPROOFNESS: used to hike with gaiters in snow ranging from compacted to 40 cm of semi-fresh powder, and besides from internal sweating and later evaporation, my feet were mostly warm and dry.- WEIGHT: if you are used to a decent approach shoe, switching to this boot won't impact you much in terms of weight. In fact, it doesn't really feel like you have a boot on except for the ankle support.- FLEXIBILITY: the flexible support on the back of the ankle is highly appreciated and while you gain in support, you don't loose too much in freedom of movement.- NO BLISTERS: the first day and use of the boot was an 18km hike in the snow and although I did, as a precaution, lightly taped my ankle, I didn't experience any blistering/big rubbing. Neither I did on any successive day, even without taping. I'd be curious to try it on a 20km hike with 1000 meters vertical in the summer without taping for a definitive test but so far, so good.- TRACTION & SOLE are slightly above the norm as well.CONS:- I haven't noticed major cons in this boot so far. The sole at times feels a bit rigid but I guess it's only my being used to a shoe rather than a boot.At times I also feel that my lower shin suffers from being too constricted by the boot, therefore experiencing some pain while bending, but again, could be related only to my inability to properly lace up or to my not being used to boots.Bought it for 150 euros, so far totally happy with the purchase. Having a Salewa Alpine Trainer GTX (old model) as an approach summer workhorse, I can definitely say I now totally built confidence in Salewa's shoes!

So, i am usually a Mammut kind of guy but thought I would try another brand. I consider myself as an "intermediate" Hiker/climber so this review will be based from my activity. So, out of the box i completed a fairly technical 15.5 mile hike up and down cliff edges and coastal paths (a section of South West coast path) to break them in and i can say overall i am pleased with this boot, but there are some drawbacks to them. I will start with the positives, the boot looks purposeful, is very waterproof and warm (torrential rain and 40mph headwind for most of the hike) and the boots held up well and best of all NO BLISTERS! The boot is relatively comfortable too initially. The stiff sole helped on the steep climbs and descents and the lacing system held my feet in place. I take a 10.5 but bought an 11 and had plenty of room available. So, the bad bits: The boot feels a little heavy and is very stiff but, but i am still breaking them in. The sole feels like you are walking with boards under your feet and as a result the underside of my feet felt tender and a little bruised the day after. The boot had little to no grip across wet rocks and found myself slipping a fair bit. The lacing system is brilliant, but fiddly, when putting the boots on you catch the laces in the wrong eyelets which was frustrating.I will try and remember to update my review after a few more hikes, hopefully drier conditions but overall i am pleased with the boot and will try some inserts to ease up the feel of bruising. I would recommend if you do a mixture of technical mountains and occasional sunday stroll, but if you are a sunday stroll walker i would not recommend these for you. I feel my crampons will work well with these boots also for the alpine climbs.

I normally take a size 10, but bought a 10-1/2 as the first thing I do with a boot is to replace the standard thin insoles with a top quality Superfeet Green insole. These are fully supportive insoles and they last forever.I wore the boots right out of the box on a 5 day hiking and scrambling trip to Snowdonia recently, walking through some very wet ground and generally wet weather conditions and they remained perfectly dry. I also walked the very rocky Pyg track up Snowdon and took the Llanberis path back down again. I was grateful to be wearing a boot which provided such effective ankle support! The boots are very light for a fully supportive hiking boot and the lacing system is excellent, allowing tight and not so tight fitting just where your feet need it. The grip is excellent on wet rocks and I didn't suffer a single blister or rubbing point throughout the trip. Perhaps it's just me, but a very slight niggle is that the lace knotting seemed to come undone more regularly than with other boots I've had.

Great, universal pair of walking / hiking boots with some finish quality flaws.+ The fit and size is very good (size UK7)+ 3F system for better ancle support+ Great lacing system+ Vibram soles+ 1-day delivery through Amazon Prime+ Easy replacement procedure with Amazon, new pair that should arrive within next working day- The boots were poorly finished inside (images attached) (the finish quality is much poorer than my girlfriend's £30 Karrimor boots)- The 'MULTI FIT FOOTBED' (MFF) boot insoles weren't included in the box, despite are presented on the images for this listingUpdated 29/11/2019I increased my score from 3 to 4 stars for quick reply I received from Salewa - they replaced now MFFwith Ortholite insole; also you can extend the warranty to 3 years through online registration. However, I had to send 2nd pair back as the internal finish of the boot is still disappointing, comparing with other top boot manufacturers; replacement pair was also very narrow.End of story, goodbye Salewa.

Great boot so far. I have medium width feet with narrow heels and ankles, and these fit excellent. The toe box is very roomy while the rest of the forefoot area back to the heel is nice and snug. I usually have trouble getting a proper heel lock with other brands but these are awesome put of the box! The lacing is very adjustable and precise, and the collar of the boot allows ankle flexion without sacrificing too much lateral support. The sole feels like a medium hiker, it's much softer than a 3/4 shank mountaineering boot, but it offers more support and protection than regular approach shoes. Treads are aggressive and grippy. So far they are the most comfortable boots I've ever used.My one nitpick is that my pair were not shipped with the adjustable insole, but that's not the end of the world as I almost always use aftermarket insoles from Superfeet or Sole. Great price and quick international shipping to Canada. Thanks Trekkinn!

These are really impressive fitting boots, they cradle the foot like no other boot I have worn with next to no heal movement whats so ever. These aren't everyday boots, their home is the mountains. They have a reasonably stiff sole and if you are looking for a pair of low level shoes these aren't them. If you are looking for a supportive boot for something like the summer Alps or Scottish Mountains these are perfect. The sole is grippy on all surfaces I have tried and inspires confidence. They are so comfortable you could walk long distances in the lowlands but really there are better options for that. They also look very good on! Salewa are a new purchase for me but these certainly will not be the last.I have reasonable wide feet and although tight fitting this doesn't lead to any discomfort - more a glove like fit!Sizing is pretty spot on. Also they give foot length guide if you Google it.

Kick a.. boots! I use the boots for approach in the mountains and when hiking in challenging terrain on lower altitudes and they excel. The fit is true to size and it is my experience that when wet they expand just a little bit and going up one size is not something I would recommend. I use smartwools phd medium socks.I do not feel rocks through the soles when walking like I do with my specialized approach shoes and the soles are still soft enough to make hours of hiking on mountain trails comfortable. The rubber around the toe box saves the leather from wear and my toes when jamming or just rubbing against a rock. The soles give superb grip on wet rocks. If there is something wish they had changedit is the laces that stretch a bit when wet.I do not recommend them for use with crampons as the flex in the soles are just a little to soft.

Amazing shoes, I'm probably going to buy a second pair for back up. I have Salewa firetails, and find that I have to buy larger sizes than normal in the firetails. Based on the size reviews I read online I chose to get a half size smaller than my firetails for these and they fit perfectly. Great if you have really wide feet - I struggle to find shoes that fit me, especially difficult because I have full length custom insoles. I thought that the firetails were the most comfortable shoes in the world, but these are even better. A wider toe than the firetails, great lateral ankle support and have a really nice cushy feel on the ankles.I recently had an ankle injury and these have been great for enabling me to walk on uneven ground on the farm for long periods without further aggravating the ankle.

Magnificent boots, give you a lot of touch on rock and great grip both up and down. Great sense of security and ankle support. In my case the only problem is that having a thin foot and a very thin ankle I have to adjust them enough so that I do not fall on my heels, but in any case I have already made two exits with them and they have not made any scratches. For all those who have a normal foot let's say you will undoubtedly luxury. They are quite light and comfortable to be a robust boot for alpine trekking and the two sets of templates are great if you want to use a thicker or thinner sock depending on the time of year. I recommend them as a very good purchase, even more so with the reduction in the price they have. The service by Trekkinn very good as always. regards

I'm a size 13 in walking boots and had tried on every viable pair in the four major physical shops. This is the only non-leather pair that actually fit me, with excellent ankle support and sized toe box.The lacing system features quite a unique three-point end (toward the front of the boot), and locks off at the base of the tongue- allowing you to have two different levels of tension in the leg and foot of the boot.I find them very attractive and incredibly comfortable to walk in. They're a lot lighter than my leather pair, so will make excellent three season walking boots.Only concern is that the surface design has lots of different parts,so might be challenging to maintain with spreading nikwax etc evenly.

Simply AWESOME boots. I'm now a big fan of this Salewa company. I was previously a fan of Asolo company for boots, however, my recent 2 pairs fell apart in no time at all and Asolo wouldn't help me out. I had purchased one of those pairs in Spain and Asolo said i had to return them in the country where they were purchased....ummm, ok i'll just go with a different company next time. I tried several other brands and decided to give these Salewa boots a try. I love these boot!. They are very comfortable and seem to be extremely well made. Gore Tex, simple design, stable, supportive. I notice the toe box flares out compared to the foot bed which gives plenty of room for wider foot profiles. You won't regret these.

This is my first pair of Salewa boots and I'm in love. I've had 4 pairs of Asolo boots in the past and I thought those were great but the Salewa boots are so much better in all aspects. I just wish I bought these sooner. The fit, the Vibram sole, the comfort, and just the look of these boots. They are beautiful. What I really like is the lacing and how close the lacing is to the toe area. You can get them nice and snug from the toe to the top. I'm looking forward to getting out in the rocky and more technical stuff soon. I highly recommend these boots!

These are my second pair of these boots and they are outstanding. The initial fit feels a little narrow however they hold your foot very well and are never uncomfortable. I wear mine five days a week and wear them for at least eight hours per day. The gortex lining works well keeping your feet dry in the wet and the tread pattern works well in everything from loose rock to mud. Trekkinn have been absolutely fabulous to deal with. The price was excellent and delivery before Christmas to New Zealand was as estimated. Highly recommended.

I rarely give 5 stars, but I am certainly delighted with the product. Good grip, good grip, in my case despite having a narrow foot, thanks to the double insole. They feel very comfortable, good cushioning and very successful design of the upper back designed for descents, reducing friction. Rigid sole and sturdy toe, great for small grimpadas and save the fingers of those involuntary "kicks" that are sometimes given to the "pebbles" of the road. Very good product, recommended whenever you fit well, obviously
