This is a pale and very distinctive-tasting whisky that really opens up mixed with water (I've tried it neat but I didn't feel it was suited to it or did it justice). While it is very smooth it would not be what I would call a particularly sweet-tasting whisky (although the honey notes come through in abundance) and, for me, therein lies it's appeal: it has a complexity that is hard to pin down (but will make you want to come back for more!). Note that this dram is a mite stronger than average (46.3%) produced via none-chill filtering. Although it probably doesn't bother most, I appreciate attractive bottling and nice presentation of spirits (not just whisky) and this Deanston looks good 'on the shelf'(and will stands out among many other whiskys due to its pale hue: which I've read is due to the absence of colouring additives). In conclusion this is a very fine whisky that I tend to reserve for special occasions. Definitely worth the price given its evident quality and distinctive character. Worth the asking price? Well, as it goes further - and will last me at a good while longer than most - I would say: absolutely!

This is the most confusing whiskey I have ever tried, a sort of love-hate relationship. In sampling glasses with a cube of ice. The nose was not strong - hints of sweetness and honey. The burst on the tongue was hot. But the aftertaste was smooth buttery oiliness. I thought, at this point "3 stars".But I then asked my family to taste and I had a second glass (and the ice had melted more to dilute) and the end taste brought up a taste memory, unsummoned, of liqueur chocolate. My 2 drinking partners struggled to find a taste reference but agree the aftertaste was nice. We all scratched our heads over the product description. Did try with stilton and that was a good partnership.Without being able to prove it (non-smoker) I imagined this as a nice after dinner drink with a cigar. I would not be upset to be offered a glass but I am reluctant to pay the price asked as I have favourites (typically Speyside distilleries) that are cheaper.Deanston is a modern distillery, using unpeated malt from independent maltsters and maturing in ex-bourbon casks.

I consider myself a bit of an amateur whisky buff, I write notes on all whiskies I try and think I have a pretty good nose and tastebuds for quality drams.YouTuber Ralfy proclaimed this particular whisky his ‘Whisky of the Year’ for 2020, and with good reason! This is a top drawer whisky! 46.3% (essential to some), un-chill filtered, doesn’t say (as far as I can see) that it’s natural colour, but it is aged in ex-bourbon casks for 12 years.Bottle Information.Colour : Amber Gold.Nose : ...’heather honey...creamy caramel, vanilla, sweet oak with hints of citrus and gingerbread.’Palate : Rounded and creamy with soft vanilla, heather honey, sweet oak, citrus and a sweet maltiness.Finish : ...’clean and dry with honeyed fruits and gingerbread.’So, very sweet! Reminds me a bit of sherry at times, but make no mistake this is a proper whisky and well priced at £40 odd. Highly recommended! This is my third bottle!

This is a beautifully presented, absolutely delicious, aged single malt. My Dad is the real Scotch drinker in our family, and has always favoured pale-coloured single malts (loves original Glenmorangie, isn't a fan of Talisker), so I grew up to share his general preference. We both thought that this is really quite lovely.Despite the higher-than-usual alcohol content, it's a smooth, well-rounded Scotch with light notes of oak and honey. Delicious on its own, on the rocks, or watered. Dad's quite happy to drink this neat, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I find it a little too robust this way. For me, drinking this slightly watered or over ice helps to bring out the sweet and floral notes to the aroma.I really enjoyed this, and Dad loved it... his traditional bottle of Glenmorangie is getting ousted next Father's Day!

Delicious, delicious, delicious. I have seen reviews that criticise this whisky for lacking complexity. Codswallop! This is delicious, sweet, honeyed whisky with all the proteins and flavinoids that nature intended. If you prefer whisky that tastes like mouthwash or burnt tyres then go elsewhere. The fact that this whisky is not chill filtered puts it head and shoulders above everything else in its price range.

This is a classic, good, whisky. It doesn't have the stunning sweetness of some Speyside, it's not a Islay number with phenol-fire and peat-smoke on cold sea water. It is, instead, one of the underrated classics of the whisky world; a good, solid Highland. A very pleasant, spicey foretaste; more chili than peppery, mellowing to a smooth, warm finish. Excellent quality, and genuinely worth £40.

This whisky was recommended by ralfydotcom. Whisky of the year 2020. This recommendation is well justified. There is a hint of the barrels used to mature without being over powering. The taste is refined, very rich and thick like syrup. The quality is outstanding, The price for such a great whisky is so good it is worth buying more than one bottle. I will definitely be buying again

For me personally Deanston scored really highly. It has "fizz" that lingers and subsides beautifully, honey and burnt biscuit or crumble (your mileage may vary!), I love it. The reason I am trying this Whisky at all is thanks to RalfyDotCom a Youtuber who reviews malt whisky. So glad I tried this, one of my favourites, I will be trying more Deanston whisky :)

Fairly new to the whisky game, but having collected and tasted a fair few now, this is one good whisky. IMHO there is nothing not to like about it, and although I cannot pick out all of the flavours and nuances, it's smooth and even with the slightly higher ABV, there is hardly any noticeable alcohol burn. 100% will buy again.

Excellent whisky both neat and with a small drop of water. I'm not an expert on the flavours, although there is a hint of honey, just to say it tastes good.Deanston's distillery is worth a visit if you're ever in the area, it's relatively close to Loch Lomond, the eastern side.

Bought for my husband and he really, really loves it. Tried it when visiting Strathyre in Scotland and he loved it - came home with as many bottles as the airplane let us get away with. Great to find it on Amazon. Delivered on time and intact, decent packaging for protection.

First time i’ve purchased Deanston 12 and it is an absolute belter of a dram, so much so that i’m going to have to place another order shortly. This is a bottle that will always have a place on my shelf. Don’t hesitate in buying this one, you wont be disappointed.
