In this day and age many producers are asking £55 for a 15 year old whisky but I think this is too much, I paid £45, which is fair enough. The box blurb mentions 'American oak barrels' but not Bourbon, which seemed strange to me. If you watch the Glen Scotia video it reveals the spirit is matured in a mix of first fill and refill Bourbon barrels and hogsheads (larger casks constructed of Bourbon barrel staves) plus a fleeting finish in Oloroso sherry casks (which are actually also made of American oak). Mystery solved! The distillery video mentions the colour, implying there is no added e150, if this is the case then it certainly has acquired a deep hue from the casks. On the nose there can be a bit of sulphur initially, which derives from a lack of copper interaction during distillation rather than from the casks - Glen Scotia's stills are fairly dumpy and produce a heavy spirit - but that quickly blows off. The bouquet is very intense and woody. If you're a fan of Bourbon or Bourbon-casked Scotch this should be right up your street but, for me, the tannins dominate overly. The other notes are well balanced - vanilla, ginger, oranges, cinammon - but show little development. There is a little smoke but I don't get much in the way of the 'diesel' peat character which I've encountered in many bottles of Glen Scotia previously. The palate matches the nose - viscous, intense, oaky, fruity, spicy - and the finish is long and drying. This whisky has a fairly unique character, there isn't much else like it in the market at this age. In that regard it is a little like that other singular malt, Clynelish 14. I find it a little too oaky and pricey to give it 5 stars but I've warmed to it as the bottle has mellowed since opening. One to wrestle with and that gains your respect with time and repeated pours.

OK an admission: I've only ever bought the double cask, -which I love-, until now. I've enjoyed other Cambletowns , (no need to name them they are doing well enough)! I have been such a fan of the double cask and bought many bottles I had to move up to the 15. I like my sherry and was looking at the 11year old double dipper but I went with this as it was on prime and with free delivery. As soon as I smelt it I knew it was the same spirit as the double cask. It has something I don't find elsewhere. Its a work of art. Check my other reviews, I don't say this if I don't mean it. Of course its subjective but my subjective opinion is If you don't love this : YOUR WRONG! Do yourself a favour and try it.Just leave some for me!

I tried the non age statement whisky from Glen Scotia which I really enjoyed so finding the 15 year old for a reasonable price on Amazon I thought why not. What a whisky! I usually try a couple of other whiskies then finish with a small glass of the Glen Scotia.I have been fortunate to have sampled some very expensive well thought of whisky but this is right up their. Beautiful. Here's hoping the price doesn't come in line with another Campbeltown distillery.

It’s really good. I am a fan of Springbank and wanted to try some other campbell town whiskies. Glen Scotia was the obvious alternative. It’s a delicious drop, distinctive campbell town flavours but with rounded, softens edges. I will definitely be getting another one when I have finished it, I think it will be a constant in my cabinet for a while to come.

If you are like me of middle income and cannot afford to spend 100’s & 1000’s on whisky, then this is an absolute must. VASTLY superior to many 25 & 30yo’s I’ve tasted & remains to this day one of my absolute favourite drams. For the price you’d be mad not to.

Am savouring the moment to taste this on my 75th birthday in near five weeks time on the 14th. Bought two bottles, one for my 80th. Already had great reviews so whether or not the 2nd bottle kept for the five years depends on the tastings on my 75th.

A superb single malt with a hint of peat thrown in. I'm not a big fan of peat whisky but when I tried this I was pleasantly surprised. It's simply delicious and rivals many a bottle costing double if not more ?????

Bought as a present for my husband who loved it. He is a big whisky drinker (in the sense of trying many types) and he reports that this one is delicious (complex, fruity and not too peaty).
