***UPDATE after 3 years*** - I REMOVED A STAR - I do not drink much whisk(e)y, and this is the whisky that got me started on drinking it. After buying 6+ bottles of this over 3 years I have removed a star. This is because I have become convinced there is a significant variability batch to batch, with the best bottles causing me to write a silly hyperbolic review, while the worst have actually caused me to contact Jamesons to try and check if I have a fake or spoilt bottle. I accept that some variability is unavoidable, but they have seemed like entirely different products (I do not drink enough to do side by side tests). The best seemed to have a depth of flavour and a pepperiness, while the worst have a tanginess that I do not like. Discovered that the gift I gave of Jameson's Select Reserve was still unopened and convinced the person to swap it with me for something else, and have now tried that. It is delicious and entirely deserves the 5 stars, however it was really quite different to the Jamesons Black Barrel you can buy now.**UPDATE** since buying the "small batch" I have now purchased again as "black barrel", which is of course now gone. I almost daren't have this stuff in the house. For some reason this particular drink really hits all my taste buds, wakes them up, does a little dance and then launches into a full rock concert on them. It cannot be normal how enjoyable an experience it is to drink this stuff. It is true my taste buds are a little odd so I guess it won't be the same for everyone. Regular Jameson's is ok, and I have tasted one of the much more expensive ones as well, but this is the one for me.*ORIGINAL* This came in a box and has "small batch" on it. As someone who usually avoids whiskey and knows nothing about the types and brewing locations, I bought this for someone and was pleasantly surprised at their positive reaction, so when the deal was repeated I purchased another for myself. Used the occasion of having a cold as the excuse for opening and I am now planning to have colds much more often. In fact it is too drinkable.I am finding it to be quite more-ish, with the first sips I got a hint of aged sherry, that is as far as I can get with descriptions.

I live in Scotland and I like whisky. That's my conflict of interest statement given now. I've tried many types of whiskies and too many different expressions to count. Despite this I'm no expert. I've always liked a sip of Jameson Whiskey. Smooth, sweet and tasty. Easy drinking. However, I quite liked my single malts and the complex flavours they incorporated. So fast forward to a weekend away in Cork(current home of Jameson Whiskey) for the Cork Jazz Festival (highly recommended, by the way) and an opportunity to taste some Irish Whiskey. All triple distilled and really very smooth. The stand out for me was the Jameson Stout Edition. Seems like a perfect idea! Why with all the different cask editions nowadays hadn't anybody thought about this sooner? Anyway, I drink it with a single cube of ice. It has the smooth and sweet characteristics of standard Jameson but you can taste the creaminess, hopiness, caramel and almost sherry like flavour! It really works. I finished the bottle I bought from Cork far too quickly. Thank you Amazon for stocking this. It now a solid favourite of mine. Original review 5*.Update: Christmas has come and gone but with it came an opportunity to try many different single malts. The jameson is less complex and lacks depth of flavour when compared with other malts. Still very easy drinking and costing less than half the price of others. I would still recommend giving this a try. Reduced to a 4 star rating.

I have just been given a bottle of this marvellous drink, which I have to admit, is a cut above my preferred tipple of Jameson's "standard", which I drink in a healthy measure with a single piece of ice in the winter and a double piece in the summer; in the case of the ice, it rarely has time to melt to any degree to dilute this wonderfully smooth drink.Sadly my palate is not sufficiently refined or educated for me to make comment on the constituent flavours, scents or "hints", nor am I in any way being sarcastic to those who can recognise them. For me it is just a very palatable whiskey from across the water and well up to the standards in terms of quality to the whisky produced north of the border.I was surprised to see it on Amazon as I was gifted a bottle after spending a number of weeks on an American cruise ship from where both my taste for it and the gift originated.I am delighted that I was able to purchase it on Amazon tonight (2nd September 2015) as a special at £27.99 and provided they continue to sell it, I will continue to buy it. An excellent Irish Whiskey and when on special offer a good price.

My favorite whiskey, smooth full bodied rounded flavor.Slightly burnt taste full bodied very rounded off more so than Jason regular it does not have the slight sharpness and aftertaste but instead replaces it with the rounded of burnt taste,With Jameson, I would compare it to the difference between a good solo musician and a band you can taste a single malt and it tastes distinct and often good, but with Jameson and possibly other blended whiskey you get the full band a rounded off flavoured with one flavour standing out from the rest with this black barrel that distinct one that stands out from the rest is mellow slightly burnt taste black barrel also has other flavours close to it making it overall very rounded off and smooth, whereas Jameson regular also has a full set of flavours but its outstanding one is less subtle more high energy more like Glenmorangie with Jameson regular it's much less subtle and stuck out significantly from the other flavours.it's good to have a few whiskeys and whisky's but if I could only have one forever it would be Jameson black barrel.

Most Jameson's products meet with my approval and Black Barrel is no exception. It's an Irish bourbon, basically, except made with Barley (if that doesn't sound too Irish). Delicious. On my whiskey wall at the moment I have the Black Barrel, the standard Jameson, the Cross 10 or whatever it's called (the one with a big X on the label) and two bottles of the 18-year-old (well, to be accurate, one and 1/3 bottles of the 18). I also have, among the usual excellent Scottish malts and blends, a bottle of Writers Tears and an Irish grain whiskey so you can see that the Emerald Isle is well represented in our household. All of these sit alongside the magnificent 50% ABV beast that is Knob Creek,a small batch beauty of a bourbon that has supplanted Buffalo Trace in my bourbon affections - and that took some doing as I have been a BT fan for many years. That's the good news. The bad news is that at the time of writing I am just seven days into Dry January! ?? These are desperate times....

My first Irish Whiskey bottle, and judging by this experience...not the last! I first got wind of this dram when it topped a newspaper online experts’ poll of the best Irish Whiskey (I think it was the Guardian?) and was pleasantly suprised it less than £20! Jameson’s Caskmates is their standard whiskey (I believe) finished off in a stout cask (there is also an IPA version). It is recommended you drink it with a stout, I tried it with a pint of Guinness Original and it worked very nicely indeed! However, I drank most of it neat as that’s how I like and the only way, in my opinion, you can tell if a whiskey’s good or not, Coke or mixer or whatever can make any crap taste reasonable to good, and this whiskey on its own is unbelievably good at this price point!A nice, not overpowering smell, the stour finish is obvious an overall sweet taste I’d say and a subtle, almost liquorice style stout kick with a bit of hops and a rich, coffee like flavour after taste. Best £20 I ever spent!

I personally think this is the better of the two caskmates range that I have tried to date, the other being an IPA caskmates edition. Not surprising perhaps as I would consider myself a stout drinker, either the popular/commercially branded varieties, such as Guinness, Murphys, Beamish, or craft stouts, chocolate, coffee or variations on those themes. However, while it definitely effects the taste, in my opinion, this is still definitely and discernibly Jameson whiskey.I thought this was a very smooth whiskey, I drank it without water or ice and would not use a mixer with it (as I have done with bourbon whiskeys). Which is how I would recommend anyone buying this at least try drinking it,even if you decide to have it with water or over ice afterwards. Its an excellent drink and I could see it being the perfect accompaniment for an actual pint or glass of craft beer (in this instance a stout), which I know is a fashion among some drinkers too. Recommended.

Jameson has always been one of the few Irish whiskeys i tend to buy as i tend to prefer Scotchs but i spotted this on offer for £17 and payday had just come along so i thought i would buy a bottle. It has been a while since i've had Jameson and i have to admit i love the bottle design, it hasn't changed in a long long time and that sort of trend tends to be seen throughout. Many bottles of whiskey/whisky tend to change over time (usually for the worse) but Jameson is still going strong rocking the taste it has been in keeping with for a long time now.Its exceptionally smooth, easy on the throat and nose and the flavours are not overpowering, they are subtle and lengthy. Its a good, honest to itself, not trying to be anything its not bottle of whiskey. The only reason it isn't five stars is because Amazon put it on a deal for £15 the day after i bought it, come on Amazon, really?

I'm excited to announce the arrival of my new baby - James junior. Arrived with a very smooth delivery (despite weighing 7.14kg) at 12:45am on Tuesday 26th May 2020. James junior is fit and healthy and we're both very excited for feeding time. I'm a very proud dad ?.He has a beautiful aroma, much better somehow than his much smaller brothers. He enjoys very much being on his own but sometimes likes a bit of ice to cool him down. On the odd occasion, I treat him to a little ginger ale and lime to make him feel more refreshed.I'm looking forward to find out more about his tastes and what friendship circles he mixes with. His mum is doing well. She is a barrel and has been been in labour with James junior for at least 4 years. It was like popping a cork. She's already considering making another.

If you are a whisky lover like me then you will really want to take advantage of this small batch whisky release from jamesons. I typically drink single malt whisky however I have always enjoyed jamesons as an every day drinkable dram. What can you expect from this tipple? Well it is slightly different from normal jamesons as it is a combination of grain whisky and standard pot still distilled whisky. The results are really quite surprising, beautiful notes of vanilla and toffee with a unique cereal note and that classic jamesons oaky finish. It is silky smooth and although different tasting notes to your standard jamesons it retains those classic characteristics we all know and love from the standard bottling.I got this whisky at £25 and am really pleased with it,definitely worth a try.

This whiskey is best served with a splash of water or a single ice cube. As others noted, it tastes a little sharp and astringent and almost cheap when sipped neat. However, add a splash of uisce and it opens up and reveals its complex flavours. I was very pleased/surprised with the toffee and caramel notes with a surprising citrus orangey finish, but very smooth and no sharpness after the addition of a drop of water. I am no connoisseur but this is one whiskey that really goes from 0 to 100 with a little help from a drop of water. One of the few whiskeys I would not mix with coke or lemonade, but would not drink neat either. I can guarantee if you are a fan of any Jameson whiskey,a few extra pennies spent on a bottle of this will be richly rewarded.

Been a single malt fan and have many favourites, was buying a charging cable but I don’t have prime and was looking to add something else to make order worth £20; this beauty caught my eye and I decided to give it a go, when I tried add a bottle, Amazon was selling minimum 2 bottles per order, I never had an Irish whiskey in my life, was slightly sceptical ? to spend £40, but boy oh boy, this whiskey is worth every single penny, real good on nose and excellent on palettes, can really taste toffee and chocolate notes. Waiting for IPA cask to come on deal, order this beauty you won’t be disappointed even if you are a hardcore single malt fan like me ?

This is the ordinary jameson smoothed out a little. I've always found the original to be a little too alcoholy smelling compared to others from Midleton. With this finished in the stout casks, it leaves a very slight cream taste which beautifully blends out any of the harsher tones. I've noticed a lot of bars now stocking this, so you might want to try a measure before you buy, but at this price, I don't really think that's necessary. Don't be fooled into thinking this whiskey tastes anything like beer, it doesn't. The stout casks rounds the jameson out into something much creamier and mellow.

Jameson is one of my go to whiskeys and I didn't think it would be possible to improve on that smooth, full flavour. I'm happy to be proved wrong because this Caskmates variation takes the fruitiness and slight vanilla cream from the original Jameson whiskey to make it even smoother and with a pleasant floral taste along with a hint of chocolate from the stout.I don't know if I'll go back to the regular Jameson because this is a new favourite. It's definitely one to have in stock to share with friends on St Patrick's Day or any other occasion.

I would suggest anyone who thinks they don't like whisky or wants to try it starts with Jameson. I don't mind the odd bourbon but compared to this, it's very firey and takes me a while to drink (as well as giving me indegestion!) But Jameson is very different. It has an almost buttery vanilla quality and is shockingly easy to drink. A bottle of spirit used to last me months but I get a week or two out of this! I often only realise how much I've had when I wobble up to get another one!Definitely a whisky for everyone.
