You know when you hear people refer to something as 'their regular' or 'their usual', the Founder's Reserve from Glenlivet is the most dependable whiskey you can possibly buy. It's drinkable, with a smokey twist (probably the fact it is from Speyside).I've never really got the tasting notes that Amazon suggests - but I would recommend this as something to have in your drinks cupboard as something for mixing or the odd glass here and thereafter you've had your nice whiskey. I personally only buy it when the price is cheap though as there are other whiskeys I would rather purchase. There are quite a few negative reviews - but, I think it's good that there is a price competitive (when it is price competitive)whiskey to have after you lose the tastebuds from a few glasses of Lagavulin. As someone venturing into whiskey? It's not a bad whiskey to try. Personally I think that anything from Scotland usually puts people off because of the unique flavor profiles. If you are thinking of buying someone this for a gift who is sort of new into the whiskey world I'd probably go for a bottle of Monkey Shoulder as it has some of the notes of the highlands but is a much more drinkable whiskey with a nicer presentation. If you like the smokey whiskey and want something at a cool price point then Laphroaig Select is a good shout, equally if you want something that's smokey but with more of the salty Speyside character - a Talisker isn't a bad shout. If you want something fancy that's a Speyside whiskey - Lagavulin all the way!Anyhow, to everyone hating on this, it's a whiskey that is fairly versatile and cheap. Whilst not for everyone, some people enjoy different drinks. This is even great in cocktails, much like Jamesons is awesome in a variety of stuff - everything has a place.P.s.

At less than £25 this is the best value Whisky out there. I always have this in my cupboard. I drink this with water or on the rocks and it has an enjoyable flavour, not harsh and easy to drink. For reference my favourite whiskies are Aberlour 12, Glenfiddich 15, Balvennie Double cask, Old Pulteney 18 and Bunnahabhain, so I tend towards less peated, more delicate flavoured whiskies and Glenlivet is in that category for me. The whisky has a nice flavour, lots of subtle hints of creamy toffee and vanilla with and oak taste that comes with a little warmth. This whisky makes a great gift and is always in my collection due to it being the best bang for your buck in the sub £25 category, easily nicer than plenty of whiskies almost double the price.

I very much enjoyed drinking this bottle, I am Scottish and have been drinking whisky for years. The taste is consistent with what you expect from The Glenlivet and I like the innovation on the new packaging. I have the feeling that the negative comments above were probably more associated with the brand change rather than the final product. Buyers see a change of packaging, already make up their mind they aren't going to like the taste and hey presto they convince themselves they don't.This is wrong. To reiterate the taste is consistent and I enjoyed bottle very much and in my option the packing is a little more contemporary and change can be good. Embrace the change, nothing is the same for ever,if it was we would all get bored.

Hi folks. I'm not professing to be a whisky expert but I will tell you three things. This is excellent quality whisky. For the price it is excellent value. It is smooth. So if you're looking to buy this as a gift then you can be sure to know that the gift receiver will be most grateful and you will have chosen well. It is a lighter style of whisky but works very well. Not too harsh like some of the peatier styles. I do like glenlivet and whilst this is an unaged version there is still undoubtedly some great care taken in the production of this product.I honestly think you couldn't find a better gift of scotch for £20.I hope like me you will enjoy your drink(Splash of water... NO ice)Cheers

Given its price this is a good whisky. Why Diageo is lowering the perceived quality of one of Scotland’s great whisky brands is a mystery, there will be tears before bedtime. British Leyland, BSA and Dunlop come to mind. They haven’t planned properly, of course, so don’t have enough matured spirit to sell their 12yo to match market demand, so they are chasing volume and sacrificing brand reputation. They will do well in the short term but longer term they are allowing some very capable competitors to march into their territory. Very British. And stupid.

This really is a lovely single malt, I'm an Islay drinker mostly but this is beautiful as an example of an excellent non-Islay malt.I'd actually read a few reviews of this whisky before I opened it up and saw the references to pears and caramel, I didn't expect much more than the odd note (if I thought about it) but the first sip is like biting into a pear and the second taste is toffee-apple, it's definitely not the sort of thing I would go for if I wanted peat and smoke but (as a dessert whisky) it is gorgeous :)It's very nice indeed !

For those who prefer the distinctive, peaty flavour of Laphroig or the strong after taste of Skye in Talisker, this may come as a disappointment. It is much lighter than either of the above but a distinctive malt nevertheless. For many unsure of their liking for whisky, this may be just the one with which to begin. It is easy to drink, smooth on the palate without any deep aftertaste but aftertaste there is - a warm, smoothness typical of malt and so unlike many blended whiskies.

Bought this got the old man (Granddad), normally whiskey doesn't last long with him but this has lasted 3 moths. Not because its crap, far from it. He has drank other whiskey since Christmas but we are in march and hes only drank a 1/4.i asked him and he said its nice. I asked my Nan and she said he doesn't want it to finish :)Dosey old git, id treat him to another if he was enjoying it this much :)

I am no expert on whisky, but i do know what I like - and i like this very much. I usually drink it neat, sometimes with ice, but occasionally I mix it with Irn Bru - sacrilege i know - but very enjoyable. This is a Speyside single malt, pleasantly just sweet enough, but with a good whiskey ‘burn', from one of the leading distilleries -and at this price very good value in my opinion.

Having been given a free bottle of this scotch I was keen to try it has I have not tried any from this brand. The bottle is attractively packaged and wrapped. Once opened you are greeted by a pleasant citrus aroma. The taste is pleasant, quite smooth with a hint of toffee. Overall a pleasant drink and one that generates interest in its stable mates.

It’s not the first time that I buy this whiskey, and I believe it’s one of the most underrated single malts around. It’s full of flavour, rich and delicate at the same time, it’s a pleasure to drink it.If you are looking for a particular, intense yet delicate single malt whisky, the Glenlivet is definitely the right one for you.

Beautiful single malt im shocked this is £20 its the smoothest iv had although i do admit to usually being a blended scotch drinker. I wouldn't be very good at the whole technical jargon but i am very good at the drinking part this is amazing stuff flavour is gorgeous and easily drank on the rocks. I'll be buying glenlivit again

This is a soft and subtle whisky with smooth, creamy aromatic overtones and is pleasant and warming to the palette. This scotch is not at all overpowering and the delicate flavours are best released with the addition of a small amount of water or over an ice cube.I will definitely be purchasing this well-priced whisky again.

I came across this whisky as a relative novice in whisky appreciation, and was really surprised at how smooth it was. It had a pleasing aroma, and the initial and after taste were really pleasant. I'd recommend this as both a gift and for personal drinking, and the packaging was a nice design mix of tradition and modernity.

Having bought this for my fathers birthday I can confirm he was very pleased with this. Not drinking much alcohol myself I can only say what my dad said which went along the lines of "the best whisky I've taste yet". Fair to say I was very pleased with this gift and a perfect gift or purchase for any whisky loving person!
