Some people are a bit snobby about blended whiskies insisting that only single malts can be good quality. Like most things in life, this is only partly true and if a blend is done well it can be very good indeed. Blended whisky can. of course, be fairly ordinary too and that is the crux of the matter and goes to the heart of the identity issue for blends. The market leaders are the international famous blend that come in red, black and blue varieties that, to be quite honest, I can take or leave, the one that looks like a bell (because it is) that I really don't like and the famous one with a bird on that is a little sweeter than the rest and is actually not too bad.I am not too clear who makes this "Naked Grouse" blends and the label is not very helpful either.A google search reveals that it is owned by Highland Distillers Limited (part of the multinational Edrington Group) which is the same owners as the more famous, Famous Grouse. It is a little disappointing that this it has not been made in a croft by the same family for 400 years, it is, in fact a fairly new brand that has been introduced to appeal to younger people. Unlike traditional whiskies, the bottle is clear and rather than being labelled the branding is embossed onto the glass. This must surely be a more expensive production method but then perception is everything when it comes to branding of spirits. It is a tea coloured liquid and has a spicy aroma. The taste is smooth and it has a distinctive spicy aftertaste too and not as sweet as its famous cousin. Yes, OK it is not as subtle or as delicate as some of the single malts but it several times better than some of the cheaper blends on the market. I don't like the bottle presentation to be honest but it is the taste than matters and, for me, it is 5 stars.

I am an occasional Whisky drinker, maybe only getting through a bottle or two in twelve months. In a blended whisky, Famous Grouse is always my first choice, but over the last six months or so I’ve been mostly drinking Laphroaig when I’ve had a whisky – as I said, an occasional whisky drinker, and after six months there’s still some Laphroaig remaining.I wanted to get a bottle that was more of an every day or session whisky though, and so probably a “blended”, and I was going to get a “Famous Grouse”, when I saw that the “Naked Grouse” was only £17 for a 70 cl at the time, and I thought that for a few quid more than my usual whisky of blended grain and malts I would try the “Naked” which I understood to be a blend only of malts, and by the same company as “Famous Grouse”.There were some discouraging one and two star reviews and so it was with a bit of trepidation that I sent off for a bottle of “Naked”. Well I am very pleased with the taste of the drink. Not just the taste, as the smell, I found to be good as well. I’m not a connoisseur and can’t give a whole list of flavours that I noticed, but having seen some of the tasting notes given on the Internet I can see where some people are coming from with “notes of sultanas and sticky toffee”. It’s a whisky so it doesn’t taste of sweet puddings but I see what they mean. I tasted it next to my usual “Famous” and the Famous was certainly dryer and sourer (?) but they are not like-for-like so they should be different and they were, and noticeably so.Could I give up “Famous” for “Naked"? – I suppose I could, but in reality would probably just as readily buy both again.I take my whisky with water usually, but I also tried some “Naked” neat, and also found it to be very good without watering it down at all.

Do not be put off because Naked Grouse comes out of The Famous Grouse stable. This is very different to their usual ‘so so’ offerings in that it is a blended malt, so all the whiskies used in this blend are single malts - no grain whisky is used. The single malts being used all come from Scottish distilleries with excellent reputations, Highland Park, Macallan, Glenrothes, Glenturret. There is some snobbery about drinking single malts versus blended malts - this is a load of tosh. There are some fantastic blended malts available and there are some atrocious single malts out there. What is important is how it tastes, not how it is made. Okay, Naked Grouse isn’t among the top blended malts,it isn’t a very complex whisky and would be improved if bottled at 43%- 46%ABV, but even so, at the £20 offer price, it is a very good value for money choice. A good whisky being sold cheaply. Try it, if you don’t like it don’t buy it again.I have about 60 bottles of whisky in my collection including single malts, blended malts and even some grain whiskies (don’t knock them), some expensive, some cheap. I am more than happy to have a bottle of Naked Grouse amongst them.

Bought this on the Black Friday deals section.Disclaimer : Not a Whisky/Whiskey expert, at all, but I know what I do and don't like...and I very much like this! There is an obvious smell of sherry (they used sherry casks) and it really does clear your lungs on a deep inhalation, this will definitely add hairs to my chest.I googled a few 'how to drink Naked Grouse' videos and found some good advice, I recommend you do the same, I personally prefer it with cold, water and to give my filter coffee an Irish kick and twist, works pretty well with a couple of ice cubes too, but I much preferred water. If nothing else, the smartly designed bottle will make me an excellent and attractive penny box,as it looks very cool, and, at the rate I'm drinking this on the run up to Christmas, it'll be empty of whisky pretty soon!Loses one star only because I'd have preferred it to have some serving advice on the bottle/information slip, but I might be splitting hairs, otherwise a fine whisky indeed!

I purchased this for a friend who has been a great help during lockdown, helping with shopping and just being there to talk to during difficult times. He is a big whiskey fan and this review is from his feedback. He likes the normal Famous Grouse and hasn't tried this before, the presentation unique and attractive, it looks classy. The whiskey itself is very drinkable, it has a mild flavour and would appeal to those who might not normally consider a whiskey. Not bland but not overly complex either and easy to drink it goes down well. Also not having an overly strong flavour profile it also would make a perfect base for cocktails as they also indicate in their listing. It's not going to replace his live of the normal Famous Grouse as his daily tipple but is certainly something he'll look to buy again due to its easy drinking nature and ideal use as a cocktail base.Reasonably priced, good quality and overall he was very happy with the gift.

I was a little apprehensive about buying this bottle due to some of the bad reviews, although it had 4.5/5 overall a few reviews talking about the lack of flavour stood out for me.Anyway, I thought at £20 (on offer) at the very least I’m sure its drinkable and I get to keep the cool bottle.Well, it was far more than drinkable. I like to think of myself as a pretty big whisky guy and I do rate this. The toffee/caramel sweetness really shone through at the start and it was very smooth. Some people commented on the cork looking cheap but I don’t agree with that, it looks like a decent cork.Would I buy it for more than £20? Probably not. Because although its nice the toffee style isn’t quite for me,but don’t get me wrong – I will be enjoying this bottle. But at £20 it’s really worth a shot and I’d probably get it again or as a gift.

This is a very nice blended dram. Don't be put off it isn't a single malt, read 1001 whiskeys to try, very informative.So... I drink a double with a single ice cube. It's a sweet taste, not heavy on the nose and doesn't burn.Tasting notes;Popcorn floating over fresh cut grass with honey glazed pork covered in sticky caramelised marshmallows and coal miners end of shift pants thrown into the mix. Multi layered and develops a clever but unassuming hint of cinnamon dusted, sumo wrestlers jockstrap extract on the tongue whichlasts for several weeks. You could just try it yourself. If you like unpeated, easygoing whisky, I would say you will like this and good value.

Although I have imbibed a great many different whiskeys, I have never tried "naked Grouse" before. I somehow expected it to be like Famous Grouse, but less famous and without a label. However, I was so wrong... I believe it is aged in first fill sherry casks and it has a bit of a pleasantly raw edge to it, compared to normal "Grouse", for a "cooking whisky" (non single malt), it is absolutely delicious. Having said that, I like Laphroaig, so perhaps I don't have a valid opinion :-). This may well become my goto scotch, if I don't want to spend a fortune on Caol Ila or Ardbeg, not peaty, but delicious.

I tend to drink single malts but have always said Famous Grouse is the best blended scotch in this sort of price range. This was on offer (£19) so I thought I'd give it a go.One the nose: Toffee/prunes/sweetness/appleOn the tongue: Prunes, toffee and a rich dark taste with a small hint of spice with a very slight air of peatinessI like to try different types of scotch, both single and blended malts and normally buy them when there is a good offer on (just incase I don't like them, it won't feel as bad!) and was glad I bought this. Will definitely be buying again.

This ticks all the boxes in terms of the flavours I look for in a whisky. Sweet and spice combine wonderfully to give a full, more-ish, chocolate desert-like quality. Very Speyside in character - Macallan and Glenrothes, maybe. My wife thinks it tastes like liquid black forest gateaux. She picked out dark fruits (cherries?), rich creamy vanilla and light cinnamon and nutmeg spice. She's much better than me at this. Give it a try - an outstanding blend. Probably the best blend I've tasted - and I have tasted a few.

Outstanding value at 18.00. For me, smoothness is as important as flavour. It is A very occasional, warming treat for us. This product has both and my partner and I prefer it to a single malt or two that we own, as the blending is so good. “Mellow layered flavours with the right amount of warmth”, says George!!!!!! Only down side is that when we went to purchase it again, after Amazon deals closed, our browser blocked it because of the word “naked”!!!!!!!! However it was the same price without Prime anyway.

I have long been a fan of Famous Grouse as an everyday alternative to a decent malt. But my drink of preference was the late, and very much lamented, 7 year old Rosebank.I purchased this bottle of Naked Grouse simply because it was untried and on offer. From the very first mouthful I was swept away by the unexpectedly rich, mellow taste. So much smoother than its forerunner, by virtue of being grain free, the quality and flavour of this blend came as a welcome surprise. I look forward to the next bottle.

Fantastic! For the price that it is it is outstanding! Even though I got this at £19 I will happily pay full price for it to keep it a regular on the shelf! I've had many whiskys but this is one of the smoothest, much smoother than glenlivet 18 and glenfiddich 15 which I also have in my collection, bare in mind though naked grouse isn't as complex but it isn't short of complexity either! Deffinatley worth a try especially if you are new to scotch! Smoother than the likes of monkeys shoulder.

I'm no expert when it comes to scotch but I know what I like. I usually buy speyside scotch such as Jura or Glenrothes but thought I'd give this a go as the price is excellent. On the nose its quite smooth with a hint of sweetness. To taste its almost creamy on the tongue and there's a nice hint of raisin sweetness. I really like it but I do miss the honeyed notes of jura and the hint of spices you can get with other single malts. For the price though I can't fault the Naked Grouse.

This whisky is matured in sherry casks and it shows! The liquid is gorgeous and it is my favourite tipple at the moment...just beautiful! It has Highland Park and Macallan in it and it shows. For the full speil on this product, I guess it is best to just google it - this is what I found:"...succulent, creamy and sweet. I like this sophisticated, complex whisky very much for its natural and harmonious suppleness. Highly recommended."-- F. Paul Pacult, The Spirit Journal
