Distilled, Matured and Bottled on the island of Orkney, this is the most northern Distillery in the British Isles. Highland Park 12 year old is famed for is complex mixture of aroma and taste especially when you take into account the price and how old it is. At 12 years old you are getting a very good representation of what Highland Park is like.My Personal Tasting Notes:Nose: Drinking neat you are immediately hit by a slight prickle on the nose with a warming yet mild sherry. There is a spicy note with fresh pear and a hint of Heather and very mild smoke.Taste: Initially your tongue will tingle, the sherry on the nose finds it's way into the taste yet doesn't dominate.A sweet almost honey taste then becomes prominent with a faint heather note again. You can definitely taste the smoke although it's quite mild and mixes well with the initial sweetness.Finish: Smoke persists with the heather and honey note quickly Disappearing leaving a dry aftertaste. With a teaspoon of water added and waiting 15 minutes:Nose: The heather note really stands out and as time goes by the honey becomes even more prominent. The slight prickle you initially got has gone and in its place the sherry note pronounces itself even more.Taste: Intense Honey and Heather with the sweetness from the sherry wood influence persisting throughout.Finish: Smoke intensifies and the sweetness quickly turns dry. At the very end i got a re-occurrence of the sherry.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Highland park has three trademarks that should be in every bottle and will identify it as a good one. Firstly they only use Sherry casks for maturation and you should notice the sherry influence in every bottle albeit it should never overpower the whisky. Secondly the herbal heather and honey note is indicative of Highland park and can usually be found in each and every bottle, possibly down to the influence of the peat they use. Third and possibly their most respected trademark, Highland park has a tendency to start sweet and turn dry which is unusual and rare to find. Usually Whiskies are either sweet or dry and don't change while it's in your mouth but highland park certainly does. After having tried many bottles i have had the same experience with each and every one, in a nutshell this whisky is consistent from bottle to bottle which believe it or not is actually rare to find these days.VERDICT: Very well crafted using fresh casks. The blend of sweet sherry and honey, heather, smoke and eventually that dry nature of highland park makes this one of, if not the best value single malt on the market. It's complex for it's age, medium length and very easy to drink. My one tip is to try neat and then add a few drops of water and this whisky goes from good to great!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Before I write my usual pros, neutrals, and cons, I though I should at least give you some perspective on my whiskey experience. I've had Scottish, Germanic, and Japanese whiskey's, over the years. Though, this is the first time I've had something from Highland Park, a rather popular brand. Just about everywhere I look I see positive thoughts, so the stage was set for my purchase and my new drink. Along with this review, I'm attaching several images of the product for you to take a look at.Pros:Pretty bottle and packaging - The overall presentation of everything you get is lovely, it comes in a rather classy black and gold design, with a reflective finish on some of the text and logo. The presentation is carried over on the bottle, but more kept under check to show off the whiskey inside. The smell - The smell is powerful, and fills up the room rather nicely. I find I get some vanilla, smoke, and some orange in the nose.Neutrals:The taste - The whiskey is rather nice, with hints of oak, smoke, and a blend of spice and sweetness on the tongue. So why is it in the neutrals? The reason being, the after taste. The hints of oak and smoke dissipates and leaves a rather metallic feel in the throat. This is rather disapointing considering the initial taste on the tongue was actually rather nice.Cons:The bottle design - The bottle, as mentioned above, is rather nice to the eye. The downside to the design however is, when pouring, you do get some spillage down the neck. It's not major, but as this is so nice I'd hate to waste any. Conclusion:Some call this a masterpiece, and until the metallic nature of the drink came through I would've agreed. It's a taste found on cheaper whiskies, bad blends, and overall drinks I would suggest avoiding. So I'm stuck, to some degree I like what I have, but at the same time I know I could find better. For £25, or maybe £30 it's worth getting, but if you've got a bit more cash on hand I'd look for another bottle. Overall, not a great first impression of a rather respected brand.

Firstly let me say I love the new bottle design across the Highland Park range. In a competitive marketplace it makes sense to invest in something a little different to make a multiple award winner stand out from the crowd. And that's what Highland Park 12 is, a multiple award winner year after year. I'd been meaning to try this for ages and when it came up on a Lightning deal I couldn't resist. My first experience I have to say was a little underwhelming. After all I'd heard about this whisky I was convinced I was missing something. After a third or fourth sip I began to enjoy it a little more. It now sits comfortably in my collection of favourite 10-12 year old whiskies, but I'm at pains to explain why.Sure it has notes of citrus and honey, there's heather and other heady scents too, plus a dose of smoke in the background, but it's all a little too well balanced at times.I can see why this has won so many awards, it's beautifully balanced, complex without being confused, it's wholly inoffensive to a range of whisky drinkers. You can't really dislike it, it's too good for that, in fact it's really easy to like it... it's just a little harder for me to love. If you are looking for a solid whisky to sit in a drinks cupboard, a jack of all trades if you will, you really can't go wrong with this. If you collect single malts like I do and like to have a range of flavour profiles for a variety of occasions, this will get a little lost.

This is my favourite dram. I am a regular (responsible) whisky drinker (enthusiast, but not an expert by any means).I won't give you strict tasting notes, as they are subjective (eg. I get a citrus-marmalade nose with a hint of its sherry cask origin and peat smoke, others smell vanilla and green apple... that one is on you to decide). What I will say however is that HP12 is a lighter, less aggressive whisky (some might say "smooth") with a touch of peatiness (a million miles from your Islay whiskies).Highland Park is frequently cited as a good introduction to the world of whisky, at a relatively affordable price. I would agree, but that doesn't mean they don't also offer new smells and tastes to those who have been drinking whisky for a while. Some may argue there is a difference since they rebranded... I don't smell or taste it. Perhaps these alleged "experts" have a much more refined palate than you or I, or maybe some are just frightened of change. I'll leave that to you to decide.Frankly, I like the bottle's new shape and design. With the "Viking" theme they have chosen to engage more with (Orkney is an archipelago steeped in Viking lore), they are clearly trying to appeal to a new audience. This is by no means a bad thing!! Honestly the more people who love this and other whiskies, the more the community grows and the less its (misguided) stuffy old "boys club" snobby image prevails!

Highland Park was one of the first whiskies that I ever enjoyed, and which got me into drinking malts, more years ago than I wish to remember. Over the following years I tried more and more different single malts before deciding that my tastes lie with the whiskies from Islay, and especially Lagavulin. This New Year's eve just gone, I was up in Scotland to see in 2015 with friends, one of whom passed me a glass of Highland Park. Having not drunk this malt for many years, I was shocked to be reminded of just how good it is. I have been unfairly dismissing the distilleries outside of Islay on the basis that they did not have the character and depth of flavour of Islay malts, but New Year's eve proved just how wrong I was.Highland Park is a remarkably characterful and complex drink. It has a wonderful smokiness tempered by sweet honey tones and rich background sherry flavour. The intensity of flavour is every bit the match for Islay malts, though does not have those strong peat high notes. And it is a mouthful of character that lasts a fantastically long time in the mouth. Highland Park is now top of my shopping list, as soon as I have finished paying for Christmas.

Highland Park is a whisky to savour. It has none of the harshness, in my opinion, of the Speysides ( that is excepting The Macallum from Craigellachie ) nor the sometimes over peatiness of Islay....but a lot will swear by these blends. I was introduced to Highland Park in a famous Italian grocer/delicattessan in Edinburgh only about 10 years ago when I was a whippersnapper of 63. I was looking for a particular Speyside which they didn't have but the chap who came from my own region near Dufftown suggested ( after blethering about the merits of this and that and the other ) I try Highland Park from Orkney which has a more delicate and long flavour, most especially when accompanied by a shortbread finger from Walkers of Aberlour.I was smitten from that moment....and this from a boy who like many Highlanders has as a youth been sick to the very stomach from overindulgence in the local blends. Try as many whiskies as you can afford but I don't think you will be disappointed with this one...which is my number 1 by a Highland mile!!

I don't drink Whisky but I bought this as a gift for my husband. I also bought him a decanter to put it in. However the bottle this whisky comes in is actually better than the decanter. Now that is a result in my eyes. However I poured it into the decanter until I could get the label off the bottle properly. There was the tiniest teardrop of whisky left in the bottle so I decided to taste it. My goodness that raindrop of whisky burst in my mouth and permeated my entire body with heat and flavour. I ate my evening meal, watched some telly and went to bed. I woke up after about 5 hours sleep and could still taste the whisky in my mouth - it is incredible - imagine if I took a sip!Obviously needs minimum amount with whatever is the favored diluting liquid because this is powerful and going to last a long time. I now have the bottle cleaned up and I have filled it with my own favorite tipple of Amaretto and just the smell from the cork has enhanced my drink. This whisky is like a fine perfume that lasts for weeks on a jacket!

Highland park is known as being the best whisky in the world (it has actually been awarded that title). And I can see why it has acheieved such a name for itself.I am not a fan of smoky whisky so I wasn't expecting to enjoy this whisky. But I felt the need to try it becuase of its well know status and the numerous recommendations I've had to try it.I love sherry cask whiskys as I enjoy the sweet rich taste it brings. Highland park 12 is surprisingly sweet and pale with a little spice and yes it is peaty/smoky. But the peat isn't over whelming at all. It gives just enough to let you enjoy the background flavour of the sweet sherry oak and spices.I really enjoyed this whisky and would recommend it myself. This is a very smooth and easy drinking whisky and I didn't notice any bite at all. This is worth every penny

Excellent tasting 12 year old Orkney Single Malt.Soft mellow peaty taste but not so peaty, pungent or rugged as a Classic Isle of Skye Talisker 10 year old, or as smokey as a 14 year old Classic West Highland Oban.Uniquely distilled and interestingly preserved, I found Highland Park to be a satisfying rare tasting Malt that can be sipped and savoured into the wee hours. Definitely one for my collection of Scottish single malts.I have fully enjoyed the gratifying taste of this Malt of Distinction, carefully produced by an age old distilling tradition. Long may such precious traditions survive.Deserves to be placed high up there with other Classic Single Malts like the 16 year old Isle of Islay Lagavulin......Superb.

I bought because it was on offer and other people gave it good reviews. I normally drink Glenlivet and occasionally their 15year old. I tend to avoid strong peaty whiskies as I don't like them. This however is stunningly good. It has both a peaty and sweet taste which I've never experienced before. It's neither too sweet nor too peaty. It's amazing how complex the flavours are and I'm constantly bewildered how the flavours keep changing in your mouth and leave you gagging for more. I am still really surprised how the taste significantly improved the further down the bottle I got. I don't know, but suspect, that like wine, this benefits from exposure to air and if true might be worth decanting.Definitely worth a try!

Sherry casked, but peated, Highland Park is the best value and most consistent entry into Single Malts in my opinion. You get both the dried fruit and oakiness of Sherry maturation combined with some medium smoke on the finish from peated barley. I like a bit of smoke in my whisky, but not the medicinal overtones of an Islay. Highland Park should be celebrated for selling an age stated whisky with tremendous flavour for this price.Trying it makes you realise most other whisky in this price range (Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, I'm looking at you) is tosh. Glenmorangie 10 is the only other bottle worth buying at this price, HP 12 makes everything else irrelevant.

I haven't tried this variant of Highland Park Whiskey, so decided as it was on a special offer.I cannot speak to other reviews claiming the recipe has changed but for me it's a perfectly decent Scotch - but not my preferred taste. It's nothing amazing but as I only picked it up for £25 I can't complain. Its very light and inoffensive and probably would go down nicely with a mixer such as ginger beer. I prefer lighter, highland Malts to the more peaty, smoky Malts from the islands around Scotland.I actually think the bottle looks pretty cool and I have kept hold of it displaying it on my man-cave shelf filled with cold tea (so it looks full!!)

The great sadness of this purchase is that it's a present for someone else, but hopefully I'll be invited to enjoy some. I was introduced to Highland Park only fairly recently, and I have to admit I'm not generally a huge whisky fan. I find some of it a little rough. I probably need to try better whisky. But Highland Park works well for me. It's smooth and very enjoyable, and cuts a nice balance between price and quality. A touch of lemonade makes a lovely drink, but I can hear the sharp intakes of breath from the purists - and probably from the makers. But it works for me. So I'll be delivering the present and hanging about in hope....

A lovely well balanced whisky, the sweetness of the vanilla and fruit is offset by dry light smoke. Easy drinking single malt whisky. A really pleasant and affordable dram at £25. Hats off to the distiller for ensuring that the colour only comes from the wood....if only this was a legality of single malt production we would see only 100% natural whisky on sale, rather than the caramel infused muck that distillery owners seem to think we want to drink. Rant over...I really like this whisky, very pleasant dram. Sweet smoke honey and fruit, delicious. And I really love the fact that they use authentic processes at the distillery.

Well you know what it’s like - lockdown and boring and you have drunk everything including the cooking sherry and that dodgy bottle someone left a New Years you avoided . Well this is a great single malt - actually very good for price much better than some expensive bottles I’ve had .Very drinkable and I know I shouldn’t care about the look but it’s a great bottle to !! Would make a good gift if it lasted long enough without me drinking it first ! Overall if you are hesitating on thinking it’s not my usual I’d say go for it I was not disappointed.
