I offer a 5-star rating with a caveat: the real 5-star quality of a hiking shoe is if it withstands the test of time. They obviously can't last forever, but a very general guideline is 500-1000 miles is a good rule of thumb. It kind of depends on how rugged the hikes you go on are... are you doing a lot of boulder-hopping, or stream-crossing? Or are you walking on well-groomed trails and paved paths? I've hiked a mile in mine and can only vouch for the out-of-the-box quality.Columbia has been making sportswear and outdoors gear for something like 80 years, so you know it's a brand that you can trust, a brand that is synonymous with quality. And these shoes are no exception.Out of the box there were a tad snug in the width department, but after wearing them for a half an hour it felt as comfortable as can be. The cushioning is firm but provides a nice spring. My only issue was in sizing... I tend to be between 10-1/2 and 11, and it really varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. I have size 12 shoes right now that fit great, so who knows. The 10-1/2s of these Columbia shoes are just a TOUCH too small and I would have been better off with the 11s. This will likely not be an issue for me, however, if I'm doing any hikes with elevation change, the downhill stretches would end up putting a strain on my toes for sure. Amazon has a fairly liberal shoe return policy, especially with "Prime Wardrobe", and shipping is quick so the hassle of getting the wrong size is reduced, but not eliminated. Nothing beats trying on shoes in person, but Amazon's doing their best to compete with that. With the Vine program I can't exchange for a bigger size, so I'm left to use my imagination. If, after many miles of use, there starts to be unusual wear or falling-apartedness, I will report back and update this review.

I like to day hike and I've found it pays to have a couple of different pairs of footwear for hiking. I avoid "sneaker" type shoes like this for any place I may encounter water, significant underbrush, or poisonous snakes. But for hikes in hot weather and generally dry terrain, it's nice to go with a lighter shoe.Columbia has been my go-to for these types of shoes. They make a good variety and they are made to be used. Frankly, a lot of name brand hiking shoes never see a trail, and if they do, they don't see many. Columbia makes outdoor clothing people actually wear outdoors, and they make enough shoes to get it right (buying shoes from a company that sells just a few lines is a bad idea -not enough volume to invest in good design).I took these out for a quick break-in hike as soon as they arrived. The fit was good (always a risk when you order online) and they felt solid on and off the trail. The outsole provides very good grip. I wouldn't take these on scree (for that you need something taller to keep debris out) but I found they did well on some fairly sketchy terrain. These are very comfortable shoes. The midsole provides just enough cushion while still giving good terrain feedback (overly squishy shoes will get you into trouble). These are on the low-to-mid stiffness side. Everyone has their own opinion on this but this is where I like my shoe to land. Overall it's a good all-around shoe for day hiking and definitely a good addition for anyone who likes to get outdoors.

These are the quintessence of what a low profile hiking shoe should be. They’re well made, sturdy and offer almost complete control. Unlike running or some walking shoes, these lack that easy cushy feel which is part of why they make good hiking shoes for travel over uneven terrain. The manufacturer’s sample received here came with no claims as to its water resistance so I tested it the best I could. Note the stripes are perforated which looks like vent holes but my take is they don’t go all the way through. However, upon putting them under slow moving running water (please see the photos) they did leak enough to dampen the shoe’s insides. Again, please see the photo. While as heavy as a control shoe should be compared to a running shoe, these are lighter than most if not all ankle covering boots. Their upper size, by definition, offers no ankle support which is a factor for some especially those who find they experience ankle strain while walking uneven terrain. If you wish serious control, pass these by and go for similar of ankle length. My subjective opinion is highly favorable for these shoes given my needs which are hiking in dry areas – mountains or desert. I rarely if ever find I need to walk through either water or mud. If you need serious water resistance and/or need ankle support, these won’t work for you as well as they do for me. I prefer a lighter hiking shoe and don’t need ankle support but do wish some flexibility. For me, then, these work perfectly.

This Columbia Redmond V2 Hiker is a lightweight hiking shoe that almost feels like a tennis shoe as far as fit, lightness and comfortableness. However when you take a look at the soles you can clearly see the Hiking Heritage. They are aggressive and provide excellent traction on all kinds of surfaces. Loose dirt, gravel, large rocks, wood, the forrest floor, concrete and asphalt. I feel very confident in them. I do like that they are lightweight and so comfy. The reinforced toe area is another great feature. It is basically the sole material wrapped up and around the toe box. I find it gives great extras protection in this critical area. The laces are very nice. They stay tied. You cold replace them with some stretchy Lace Locs and make them slips-ons. I think they would work fine for that too. They grip and hug your foot enough to not need extra tight lacing. Mostly water shedding, they stay pretty dry. Ventilation is better than average. My feet don't get as sweaty. I think the color pattern looks very nice with shorts or pants. I think the Redmond Version 2 is even better than the original. 5 stars.

My teenage son is painfully picky about shoes. I don't know why. It's not like he's trying to find just the perfect style or be exactly on trend. Instead he's the type I can buy brand new shoes for, then he'll constantly go back to wear his old worn out ones instead. Over the last two years I've ordered him 4 or 5 new pairs of shoes, and rarely will he wear any of them. He always goes back to his old brown pair he got a couple years back. The only time he doesn't wear those is when he goes to work and is forced to wear a pair of black shoes instead to match his uniform. When I saw these, I crossed my fingers in hopes that he might actually wear them. They look similar in style and shape to his old worn out pair,so maybe there was a chance. He tried them on, said they fit and then I sat them by the door like I do with any new shoes I get him. Later that day when he headed out, he actually put them on and wore them! Then again the next day, and so on. Finally! We have officially replaced the old worn out brown shoes from years ago. He likes these enough to give the old ones up.

I've been a fan of Columbia shoes for years. I like the fit and styling, and I can wear them daily and they'll last years. I've been wearing these daily for a couple of weeks. I typically wear a 10.5 or 11 shoe, depending on the make. In Columbia I need the 11. That's true for my other models and this one.The laces attach via loops, not holes/eyelets, and the top pair are metal. The insole is basic, looks like EVA foam. It's not glued in, so if you want top use your own insoles these swap out easily. If you use partial insoles, they'll stack on top of these - that's what I did. These start to break in fast - after a couple of hours I did not feel them anymore.I usually prefer wider shoes, but the medium in these fits well - not too tight. I actually have the previous version of these shoes and still wear them daily (when not wearing these.) The main differences are the top metal eyelets, slightly different design on the sole and toe wrap and cosmetics. Weight and fit is the same. For casual shoes and bang for the buck I don't think you'll beat Columbia.

These lightweight hiking shoes are constructed with an upper that is a combination of mesh fabric and suede leather. The sole is deeply textured and reasonably flexible rubber sole which provides solid traction. The innersole is removable and decently cushioned for comfort. The tongue and collar below the ankle are both padded which provides insulation in areas that with repeated contact can cause irritation. .Visually, care is taken with the details so with this pair there is no glue residue in evidence, rough edges or sloppy finish work. The shoes fit true to size and my male counterpart says they are comfortable right out of the box and they have a good tactile feel underfoot. And,unlike heavy hiking boots, they are lightweight enough to avoid leg fatigue even when worn for extended periods and they have decent ventilation so moisture doesn’t unreasonably accumulate. The appearance is appealingly rugged and although it is too soon to know how the shoes will wear, this is a brand that usually performs well.

I love these shoes. They fit true to size and are super comfortable right off the bat. So much so I had no worries about throwing them on and going on a decent hike. Have paid the price before by doing that with other brands and having a long blister filled walk back to the truck. Not the case with these though. I almost forgot they were brand new/not broken in shoes I had on. Besides the comfort level being great, they also provide the necessary traction on both loose gravel and potentially slippery smooth rocks/boulders. All in all these are definitely worth getting.

These are very well made shoes. The soles are thick and nubbie. The toe is reinforced. The stitching is well done. They are easy to pull on with the back loop. I got these for my husband. He wanted them for walking on the treadmill. He ordered a size larger than what he normally wears - a size 10. He should have gotten only a half size bigger. They are a little more roomy than he prefers. These are better suited for their purpose of hiking. They have wonderful traction on the bottom of the soles. They should last him a long time. He will be wearing them hiking.

I bought the columbia Men's Redmond V2 Hiking shoe and they fit and walk fantastically. This is a personal observation and not scientific, but they seem to align with my posture and make me walk easier. The shoes are very comfortable and I went on a lengthy walk, for an old guy, and didn't have an issue at all with them like what one can experience with new shoes. They are also sturdy enough to use on a bicycle, so that's an added value if you enjoy recreational biking. They fit to size, in my case. I love them.

These shoes have been very comfortable. They're casual enough for daily wear to work (to my mind at least, they work for business-casual dress), but they're also great on the weekends, and I look forward to wearing them often this winter, when more rugged footwear is called for. They fit as expected, and they feel good. And they seem a good value for the price.

I have always purchased trekking / walking shoes from other brands. I had wanted to try on a pair of Columbia shoes for a long time. I can say that the shoe exceeds my expectations. The Redmond V2 are made with top quality materials. They weigh the right and fit perfectly, although I have a wide sole. Delivery was fast, despite the delays due to Covid19.

After 7 years of abusive use, my previous Columbia retired and passed the responsibility of carrying me around to my new Colombia (wear them for dirt hiking). I like the fact it comes with no brochure, greeting card or sales coupon. You get what you expect, and you expect what you paid for... a well made pair of Columbia.

Good shoes, nice and comfortable, good soles and grip. These are light shoes with a mesh top so they are not waterproof, good if it’s relatively dry but not for super muddy situations. They’re lightweight so good for long days of walking or hiking. Construction is good and these should last a good long while.
