Like most vacuumers, we have had a variety of blasted things over the years, a necessary evil, unfortunately. My first independent experience was, as a newly married man, to buy the latest tech, a Hoover, with a light on it..........Wooooooooo. The bitch took that as well! Then various upright and 'follow you round' models. Then Dyson came along. The man was a genius, I lived with paper bags bursting at the seams and even used Fine Fare (remember them?), brown paper grocery bags as vacuum bags. No Amazon then, to order your next day delivery from; tough times my son.So we enjoyed the Shake and Vac experience with Dyson for many years, but sad to say, I broke my back 243 times dragging the damn things upstairs.Whatever you can say about them, they ain't light. Even the final 'ball' version was about the same weight of my first Hoover, heavier if the shameful transparent indicator of your unsavoury habits is full. and like the Hoover, mine is always full!I saw the Bosch Athlete on Amazon and lusted after it, but at several hundred quid, I thought I would rather lick my floors clean than part with that sort of money. A year on, the price dropped to reasonable levels, so with some inheritance money, my entire pension investment, and all our combined savings, I took the plunge.I hate vacuuming, I really really hate it. It only rivals getting out of bed in the morning, with a hangover, after a Vindaloo night. But now I'm like the Shake and Vac woman, chasing hairs and dust all over the house, singing and shaking my ass to the groove. No more broken backs, no more Fine Fare brown paper bags, NO MORE CABLES TO TRIP OVER OR SMASH THE ORNAMENTS as I whip the damn thing over coffee table whilst its trapped under the effing door!Critically; the 'lightweight' Dyson is now in the loft, just in case. Admittedly, our kids are late teens early 20's now (like that makes a difference to the crap they distribute!) and we don't have two lumbering great dogs to chase round with a vacuum, but life is so much easier with this Bosch. No attachments (well, we love it) but I don't think that's the point. It's for a quick run round, if we want to forensically clean the house, the Dyson will be resurrected. But honestly, the Bosch is light enough to vacuum your curtains with. On setting 3, it's difficult to shove the blasted thing round as its stuck to the floor. Emptying the content of your house into the bin couldn't be easier. It also has three filters, I vacuumed up the dust from drilling a 125mm hole in the wall of our listed cottage (old brickwork creates more dust than you ever thought possible) and all I had to do was empty the canister, remove the filters and bash them about a bit (in the garden, well away from the house) and they were clean. One can even be bunged in the washing machine. I'll probably try it in the dishwasher as organising washing is too much work, if it happens to come along, it'll get washed.Brilliant cleaner.

I bought this Bosch vacuum cleaner just before Christmas from Amazon for £139, and I am very pleased with it,super lightweight, easy to manoeuvre and with tremendous suction power much to my surprise. My old Miele Cat & Dog was very good but heavy to pull around and when I tugged it too much it always tipped over and the plug came out of the socket, so when I saw these Bosch vacuum's on Amazon I thought I would try one, I am so glad that I did, my floors downstairs are laminate and tile in the kitchen , the Bosch just glides over them and sucks up every bit of the dust on the low setting with ease, upstairs is carpeted, and I was truly amazed at the dust it got out of the carpets on the second and turbo setting,I have a black Chinese runner on the landing that shows every scrap of dust, I used the turbo setting for this and the gunk it removed was impressive so I am one very happy customer, a product that actually works , the bonus is no bags to buy Miele bags have always been expensive, so that's money saved, I haven't noticed as other reviewers have the need for frequent emptying of the dust container, one full charge does me both upstairs and downstairs, and a full charge is more than enough for me not being overly keen on housework !!. An excellent product, I shall be buying another one for upstairs shortly.I like the fact that is easy to charge with no docking station makes it much more flexible.

Bought this after reading the reviews, as a replacement for our floor sweeper. This cleaner gets a well earned best buy in Which magazine. All as described and works very well indeed - the claim that the suction is equal to a mains powered cleaner is justified and in turbo mode it will actually lift your carpet. In fact it works so well that my wife prefers it to our mains powered Dyson, which says quite a lot. Very lightweight and easy to handle - the lack of a power cord really does make it a lot easier to use in practical terms. Good with pet hairs as well and the roller brush is ingeniously designed to be both quick and easy to clean. It will run for about 20-30 minutes on one charge at setting 2 (brushes plus suction)- in practice this is more than adequate and we tend to recharge ours every other night. Recharging is easy - just plug in the lead from the supplied adaptor (as you do for your mobile phone or toothbrush) - battery is Li-Ion so can be short or long charged without any damage. Emptying is also easy and simple, although you may find that you're doing this quite frequently as the cleaning ability of this machine is so good. Filter is washable when you need to, and the whole lot carries a 2 year warranty. Very highly recommended if you are after an effective floor cleaner for anything from hard floors to thick carpets, providing you are happy without having any piped tools.

The first impression is very positive. The vacuum cleaner is lightweight and easy to manoeuvre. Although I own a Dyson I felt I would enjoy a vacuum cleaner that is cordless and easy to use daily in the upright position. It is quite hard to do it on the knees dragging the vacuum with the cord behind me.This Bosh is great. It has a beautiful modern design and it does what it promises. I have two small pets hence I needed a vacuum with a decent strength to pick up the hair. When I first used it on the lowest setting on the hard floor I was surprised how much hidden dirt was picked. The highest turbo setting performed very well on my thick carpet in the bedroom. The bathroom tile floor was vacuumed in no time because of the ease of manoeuvring. Even the dirt from difficult to reach corners was gone. The lowest setting is enough to clean the hard floor. The engine is so quiet that I could continue watching a film while cleaning. The battery life is good but it will last up to 35-40 minutes depending on the setting. I would recommend the product for its design, performance and portability. It is perfect for a small apartment.

Well I am surprised with this cleaner, I didn't expect the charge to last that long, but it's still going strong. Other than the kitchen, all our floors are carpeted so I am using the cleaner mainly on the 2nd setting to vacuum the lounge-diner, 2 double bedrooms, two bathrooms and the hall, then on the 1st setting for the kitchen. I have used it many times since the first charge to vacuum all these rooms each time and I still haven't had to re-charge. I've also used it several times vacuuming just the lounge. Excellent. It's nice and light and easy to manoeuvre around the furniture, I can also reach slightly under some of the furniture which I was not able to do with my old Dyson upright.I emptied the dust container after the first usage, just to see how easy or difficult it was and had no problems detaching it, emptying and then re-attaching.It stands upright quite well, without falling over as some of these cordless cleaners tend to do.All in all I am delighted with it and have already recommended to family and friends.

I bought this in the prime sale and have been amazed at just how good it is.My dyson had stopped picking up some time ago, so was looking for something cheaper that had good suction. The Bosch BCH61840 is certain that!It has deferent settings for different flooring which is very handy, as it can be used on any surface. Be warmed though, the high setting actually started to lift my carpet up from the floor it is that powerful haha. It's great those as I finally feel like my carpet is being properly cleaned. This is a cordless vacuum which I had always regarded as something of a gimmick. Having used it though I'm completely won over, it actually makes hoovering from room to room and in tight spaces, just so much easier.Drawbacks: it would have been good if the additional attachments actually came with the vacuum, as apposed to having to buy them separately. If they had done then I would have happily given the Bosch 5 stars.I'd still highly recommend it though, it's a great bit of kit.

This is a brilliant bit of kit. I bought it after reading lots of reviews including the Which? one, and have not been disappointed. It is so easy to use to vac up crumbs etc, and will do a routine clean of my 4-bed house on one charge. The handle goes right down to allow you to clean under sofas etc. It is very easy to empty and clean; the brush comes out easily and has a slot into which you can put a pair of scissors to cut all the hairs and threads that would otherwise be so difficult to remove. It also looks very neat and I'm happy to let it stand in a corner of my kitchen so it is always accessible.I thought about getting the more expensive model with attachments, but decided I did not need them.Am still not sure whether that was the best decision - cobwebs are easily dealt with by a feather duster but I occasionally miss a crevice tool and have to get out my old hand-held vac. But the vacuum itself is light enough to put on my coffee table to get into the grooves!

This upright vacuum cleaner is supremely adequate for our household. With three kids and a dog tramping in and out it is most efficient. It is convenient to just grab it and vac away without all the faff of power cables and tubes. We have wooden floors downstairs and carpets upstairs where it works exceptionally well. We were amazed at the amount of dust, hair and fluff it extracts from carpet. The battery life is more than enough to do the whole house. Anybody who spends more than thirty minutes vacuuming obviously has issues. Great product. One year on and the floor brush has stopped working. It became steadily noisier over the last year until it gave up this morning. It still sucks but without the spinning floorbrush it's no good for carpets. It should have lasted longer than 13 months. I am trying to find a repairer without much luck so far. I suspect these cordless vacuum cleaners are pretty much expensive throwaway items. So..buyer beware.

I love this machine!! :) - it makes hoovering fun, - I use it daily rather than once a week, - particularly it's good as I have mostly hard floors. The battery does run down but that's why it has a charger, it charges in about 3 hours.Usually the battery lasts longer than there is hoovering to do, I can do the whole house on one charge and keep on cleaning until it requires a charge, - then just charge it up. There are 3 power settings:Setting 1 is fairly pointless as it's so slow.Setting 2 is perfect for most vacuuming.Setting 3 uses the battery quickly but is great for occasional use.*** The first charge needs to be about 6 hours - this info was hard to find but is very important for the first charge!!***A great machine - so easy to use, so easy to empty, so easy to maintain.I'm looking forward to it wearing out so that I can buy another one! - in black again!Well done Bosch - you've nailed this design! - hard luck dyson.

This is the best vacuum I have ever used! Married 40+ years and having tried many, many vacuum cleaners, finding this little gem has been a surprise! Whilst I bought the Athlet as a back up vacuum for going round quickly, I find that I use it more than my cylinder Dyson or upright cleaners as it is just so easy to get around. We have a large house with wooden floors plus large rugs and rough quarry tiles in the kitchen and this machine makes short work of them all! It sucks right up to the edges, does stairs well as it has a narrower head than my traditional machines and it really does leave floors as clean as with any of the more traditional machines I have used!Emptying is easy and I really can't find a negative thing to say about it. This vacuum is worth every penny...may even get one for upstairs although it's so light that carrying upstairs is no problem!

Fantastic hoover. This is so lightweight that I have actually cleaned cobwebs on the walls with it, and the stairs without the hose! Very easy take apart the filter to clean it all. There are some helpful youtube videos instructing how to do this. In addition, the brush can be completely removed and it has a slot that you can run scissors along to cut off long hair! Great innovation means that the brush can be kept clean easily and stay in good working order.I cannot believe the suction power on this, I have a cat and it hoovers up all of her fur, hoovers up fluff from my husbands socks etc. I actually think this is better than some Dysons I have used! My only complaint would be that it doesn't have a hanging wall socket, but the hoover is so small, it tucks into a corner quite nicely. The charge is enough for me to clean my whole two bedroom house.

A good vac, but not the best for the elderly or the disabled. It's awkward to carry around, especially on stairs, and it flops about when one tries to make it stand upright. Emptying the dust container can be awkward. There are two inner components, one holding a rather delicate filter(don't tear it) which lies inside the dust container. Be careful not to over tighten the latter when replacing it because there's nothing specific to grip it with when removing it. Replacing the entire assembly can be a bugger unless you lay the vac completely flat on the floor, and EXACTLY align the container with the gap in the body. It's easy to use unless one has thick underlay under one's carpet, when it becomes quite hard to push, even on standard setting.

How could I have managed before I bought this wonderful little vacuum? As someone who is disabled and unable to use larger conventional cleaners I had to rely on others to do my cleaning. This little Athlet is easy to get out of the cupboard and push round the floors with no effort whatsoever. I have arthritis in my hands but have got the hang of the on/off switch ok. It's very good on hard floors, kitchen, bathroom and wooden hallway. Also magic for cleaning the turtlemat doormats and other carpets. I'm able to empty it straight into my garden bin without any mess at all and the brushes are really easy to clean too. So glad I found you Athlet, I wouldn't be without you now!

Light, efficient and easy to use. Collects pet hairs with ease and goes round my four bedroom, 2 reception room house as quickly as I can walk round it. Goes over hard floors and carpets (I only have two carpets) without the need to stop and fit special heads. Negative: I don't have to ask husband to do the stairs now as I can manage this myself! Charges quickly and unless using the turbo setting, which I only use for carpets, the charge lasts well. Fills up quickly but easy to empty. Have not needed to use my old labour intensive Dyson since this purchase. Gave this 4 stars as, who knows, there may be something better out there.

Light, convenient, good suction, easy to manoeuvre - everything I was hoping for. We have 3 dogs this picks up hair like a dream!Hate hate hate our Henry its heavy, cumbersome, tips over, even getting it out of the cupboard was a pain and it was hard work to vacuum properly so my other half was vacuuming more than me, bought this and have used it every day! It was on a special offer of £89, it's just there, ready to go.Need the tools though really to do the stairs properly and they are £69 which I feel is expensive however it will still be worth it for ease of use and convenience. Buy this you won't be disappointed!!
