Purina PRO PLAN Dog Small and Mini Puppy with OptiStart Rich in Chicken Dry Food - 3 kgThis is one of Purina’s new tailored diet products for dogs. I have tried a lot of the range on my, friends and my parent’s dogs.Ingredients.The ingredients are listed on the back. I always look for the ash content as this is an indicator of the amount of non-nutritional filler used. In this product it is 7% which is quite low compared to cheaper foods.I wish manufacturers would be clearer about the ingredients as there are three separate listings in this food about the actual ingredients. It does contain wheat and soya protein which should be noted if you dog has an allergy problem with either ingredients.Thekibble is very small and ideal for toy sized dogs.Bag.The food comes in a resalable strong bag for easy storage and decanting. There is a detailed feeding guide on the back. The kibble is very small and is designed for toy type dogs.Taste test.Fed to some Jack Russell rescue puppies. They really liked it and none was left over. There has been no change to their bowl movements with two regular outings a day. So this has been a great success. As the food is low in fattening ingredients and high in growth ingredients like proteins some of the protein is chicken based. This is ideal for growing and active young dogs. With this food Purina seem to have got it right although it’s quite expensive.Overall.The food is palatable has had no adverse effect on bowl movements so can be considered a success. There has been no waste. It is marketed as a premium product but the ingredients listed are common to most foods, it seems only the amounts of more quality ingredients vary between ranges. Overall this is a successful food in the range of premium dag foods. It is quite expensive so try a sample before buying in bulk.

I have a small jack chi puppy who is really picky with her dog food, she will have no problem at all eating the cats GoCat food but as soon as I put her biscuits down the cats seem to like it more than her: ) Having cats and dogs all my life I have tried all the tricks and treats to get her to eat her own food and not the girls cat food but she won't have it, then I took a trip to my mother in laws house who had this same doggy food by Purina, she also has a small doggy and finds this food also very gentle on her dogs belly, Well my honey seemed to woof it up, it was as if she hadn't eaten in weeks,my mother in law thought I must have run out of food at home and that day she hadn't eaten anything all day by the way she gulped it down lol but when I told her no she is just super duper picky she laughed, so when I got home I searched online amazon and found this 3kg bag on super saver, and I was so happy, Now my honey eats her own food and not the cats...........well most of the time : )My Pros for this doggy food is:* Helps to support healthy joints* Great for dental care* Great for the dog's immune system* Contains high-quality pieces of chicken* Help support puppies’ natural defences* Gives them a good start in life* Contains colostrum which is found in mother's milkOverall if you love your puppy you want only the best that you can afford that is both reasonable price and has all the added bonuses I have said: )I would without a shadow of a doubt recommend this to any dog owner.

This Purina Pro Plan is suited for smaller puppies and toy breeds as the kibble is smaller and designed to keep their teeth healthy. It also has nutrients that puppies need to grow. The good thing about this particular food (as with a growing number of the higher quality dog foods now) is that it contains Fish Oil, which is a great help for a healthy coat and the Omega 3 they need. However, it doesn't feel as oily as some of the recent foods we've tried, so I don't believe there is a lot of fish oil in this product. The Chicken content is around 18% which is lower than something like Second Nature or Devoted but more than the adult version of this food so, ingredients-wise,Pro Plan falls in the middle between regular foods and the higher quality ones, though strangely the price doesn't reflect this and the Pro Plan works out more expensive in this 3kg pack. I do prefer the Second Nature Adult Grain Free Turkey with Sweet Potato over this for the ingredients considering that this is more expensive. That aside, Pro Plan is still a good food and my new Shih Tzu puppy took to it without adverse effects (actually, she tore a hole in the top to try and get in to the pack after we put it away!), so if you find your dogs are more inclined to pick this brand if they're fussy, then it still can be a good quality feed for them. If you are sticking with Pro Plan, then I would certainly recommend the sensitive variety over this for Toy breeds, though.

Purina PRO PLAN Small and Mini Puppy OptiStart with Chicken (3kg) is a well balanced dry food for small and mini puppies and can be fed through the early stages of your dog's life. It is easily digested so this dry dog food can also be fed to dogs with sensitive digestions. This dog food has ingredients that promote perfect heart health, healthy skin, dental care and healthy joints, skin and coat. After I opened the packet of Purina PRO PLAN , I immediately noticed a not unpleasant yet fairly strong smell (sort of a cross between roast chicken and an oxo cube). The kibbles are brown, small, semi hard and square. Our two mixed breed terriers will eat most dry dog foods as long as it has a reasonable smell and taste. However, one of our dogs may like any food but unfortunately not every food likes her, nor us which is more to the point as she often suffers with terrible very 'smelly' wind.I measured out 80g of food and poured it into each of our puppies bowls and then called for our two terriers who when they realised it was dinner time came in running. And without any hesitation at all ... they both ate the lot. Then we waited.I am pleased to say this time the 'wind' stayed away.Time will tell regarding whether this dog food improves our dog's health and vitality. They are already healthy and have fairly glossy coats.

So our tiny female Yorkshire Terrier (7 months old), and our male Rough-haired Dachshund (9 months old) have been chowing down on this for the last month. If they could speak, I'm sure they'd say they like it, and it fills their tiny bellies up.To be honest, if it wasn't for the Vine programme i wouldn't have even bought this. I usually buy 'another high-street brand' for the pups, which claims to give all the nutrition they need, and they've always eaten that without complaint. The same goes for this Purina product, although it claims to offer far more 'science'. After 4 weeks, I can't tell if they're in better health or not, as they're so young, but they're boundless balls of energy regardless.I do mix this kibble with scraps (e.g. bits of the Sunday roast) when served as I like to get some 'real' food in their diet. I'm pleased to say the pair haven't suffered any dodgy rear-end action after eating this either, but a 'sensitive stomach' variation is available to buy.The size of the dogs and the fact I mix it with other food means a bag of this size will easily last a month, and I do consider it good value for money, I just can't guarantee anything claimed by manufacturer is genuine. (Perhaps I'll come back in ten years and update this review!) I will be keeping an eye out for this in my local store, though.

Our Boston Terrier had this has his first food (breeder was feeding him on this so thought it sensible to keep to it). He seemed to enjoy it. With it having fish oils in it makes it work out cheaper than buying separate fish oil. His coat seems glossy and shiny and no teeth issues.Nice small bite sized pieces for small breed dogs and he does enjoy it, plus know it is keeping his teeth clean with having to bite it.However now becoming a little more fussy and enjoying this mixed in with a little wet food. Seemed to go off his dry food so tried some wet mixed in and back to eating it again. So for us it seems to be working but one meal of this mixed with wet each day.Know it might not have quite the same (value)quantity of chicken in it than some other makes and more than likely more fillers too. But it does get eaten and no funny tummy or other problems with it. Also with it being a biggish bag and him only being a small dog does not work out that expensive to feed him either. Have tried him him on other various makes but this Purina brand seems to suit him and he seems happy and healthy with it which is the main thing to me.

The Purina PRO PLAN Dog Small and Mini Puppy with OptiStart Rich in Chicken Dry Food comes in a 3KG bag. Here is what I thought:^^ OptiSTART is designed for an optimum start to a healthy life for a wide range of tastes and sizes. This one is for small and mini pups and made from chicken.^^ Has all the specifically designed ingredients for puppies, so it has a higher protein content for your active little ones.^^ 3 KG is a decent quantity, but don't go overboard with this. Check out the instructions of how to prepare this for younger pups and changes you should make when weaning etc.^^ Developed by Purina vets and nutritionists,so a trusted brand should know what is best for your little ones.Overall:I am happy to provide this to my dogs knowing that the brand is a trusted and reliable company and of course, it's a bonus when my dogs love it, since it is then money not wasted but indeed well spent. Don't forget, I do not give my dogs just this dry food diet and insist on a balanced and varied selection for my pampered (but well looked after) pooches.

This is another specialist purpose, high-end dog food from Purina 's premium range. Dogs have differing nutritional needs depending upon their age, size and natural activity level. It is important therefore to match their needs with an appropriate diet. This offering from Purina takes all the guesswork out of dog feeding for owners of small dogs under 12 months. Young dogs need a higher protein intake than more mature specimens and have different requirements in relation to vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and so forth and this feed meets all of those needs. You often hear breeders telling you their pet theories about dog nutrition - feed tripe, raw liver, tinned sardines, add calcium tablets to their meals etc etc. These theories are not founded in scientific evidence and owe more to personal opinion and old wives tales. Don't listen to them - you could do your dog more harm than good. Take the guesswork out of feeding your new dog by buying a feed specifically designed for him/her. This stuff fits the bill and in my experience dogs love it.

Our pup quite liked this, and we've fed him the version for larger pups. So why did we choose to get one for small and mini if he's a large breed? Well, I'll be honest. I got these to make dog treats. The small kibble is excellent for using to add into baked dog cookies rather like one might add chocolate chunks to human cookies. It gives the treats texture and adds to their nutritional content. We're big on only feeding our dog healthy treats and this helps us fill the bill. The pieces also work well mixed with peanut butter and added to a Kong toy. The small pieces also work well as a training aid for our pup, plenty will fit into a treat pouch, yet the reward given isn't so much that it impacts on feeding. The small size has helped us work on him taking the treat and eating it while being "nice" and not lunging and gobbling.

Over priced for the size of bag. I guess you're paying for all the nutrients and goodness and how it's better for the dog etc. But how can you really know if it is any better? I've heard from vets to stay away from Bakers. I don't know if this is as fantastic as it makes out to be though. However, in saying that, my dog loves it! He's actually a medium dog (eurasier) but much prefers small kibbles and these are tiny! He'll happily eat these on their own (which he doesn't normally do with dry food) or in the wet food.He has had a little bit of an upset tummy but we changed his wet food so don't know if it's that or this!I'd recommend if they brought the price down a little, luckily I got this for free.Don't know if i'd pay the full price.

Top quality dog food with a decent meat content and a very good mix of nutrients and balance of ingredients- ideal as a basic, day-to-day feed for small/mini puppies. Used regularly we find this line is great for our dog's overall on-going health. Bit pricey but when we use Pro Plan in particular, we find our dogs fill up quicker so you use less, which makes it more economical and you are guaranteed a good quality feed. We use a wide range of this 'Opti' line of products and you get good sized food chunks for whatever dog size your particular type of Pro Plan is targeted at- it's not too dry and smells pleasantly meaty- and for ease of use it comes in good, sturdy, resealable plastic bags.Would recommend without hesitation.,

Got these for my Jack Russell, she likes the odd dry food but struggles with the size of some products and they can also be a bit hard.Ignoring all the claims, as most manufacturers make the same blah dee blah claims, only a vet or scientist would be able to test these theories and it would take more than my dog to prove them. Its weather or not you dog like them or not, that’s what counts.Mine is very happy with them, the size is good, there not to big and they seem a little softer than some i’ve found. The bag is a very good size, forgot how big a 3kg bag was. There obviously a quality product, one that I’m happy to recommend

This is tiny, tiny kibble - a perfect introduction to dry kibble for small and mini breed pups. Its round shapes really are just for small and mini dogs, bigger breeds will find these somewhat frustrating to eat as they slip down barely noticed. This is quite a rich flavoured kibble for very little tummies (judging by the smell) and may be best mixed with something plainer.Nutritionally the content doesn't quite match the price, which is something it has in common with the rest of the Purina Pro Plus range, but dogs don't know about price, they only know about flavour and they really do seem to enjoy this.

I'm not a huge nutritionist expert , want the best for my 1year old cross terrier . I have gradually introduces it and not her favourite but she eats it if mixed .It is smaller kindles which make it easier for her to gulp down and so far with gradual introduction no tummy or poo concerns .Price wise it's on price wise with dearer brands like James well beloved .I won't feed it as a complete food , but I prefer a mixture of wet and dry and being a relative new dog owner am not experienced to say if this is the best dog food. From my dogs point of view it eadable and functional

To be honest I'm quite happy with this, it give the pup everything it wants from healthy teeth and bones, to support for its joints and of course provides a good quality meal that will enable an active lifestyle that all pups love. The food is popular with the pup who just devours it when he gets the chance and I've had to hide it in the cupboard as otherwise the bag will get a hole in it. (and not the one I put in in order to get it out.) All round a good product and one that at the end of the day will give the pup a good start in our home. I can't ask for more than that.
