Many years ago a friend ate a can of dog food thinking it was goodness knows what - you see, it was in his mums cupboard without a label. That is really the only thought of canine fodder I had for many years, a bit disgusting , stomach churning and somewhat filling. Then, I had to think about it properly..... suddenly I was the only thing in the world of a creature I had rescued, eyes that would melt a glacier and faithful to nearly every command should I wish.... Winalot was my mistaken brain-wave to feed this doting friend, whilst it sustained the bitch for a while she soon often turned her nose up to it and i was left hunting around for a solution without having to raid my larder for herfavorite food like bread and cheese...or her raiding it herself.I tried many different brands and then , over a decade ago came across burns fish and brown rice - whilst it may look like other dog food it isn't. As I understand the food was cooked up by a vet and he originally went to delta pet foods based in llandovery, carmarthenshire to process and produce before manufacturing it themselves (delta no longer being involved). There has not been one meal time over those last 10 years when any of the dogs havn't chomped down their brown rice pellets with fish in them.... they even relish as rewards and are handy being dry food. There can't be higher recommendation than that, unless I add that the dogs have not been poorly at all, have shiny healthy coats and don't bark at the delivery driver who delivers the sacks over the 10+ years they've enjoyed!I do also feed them with (welsh border collies) with lettuce, cauliflower, broccoli at times probably because I think it must be boring just eating the same food though i think they don't mind.Amazon rocks for supply with their subscribe & save too.

I have fed all my dogs on Burns dried food over 14+ years and although it is not at first glance the cheapest it is excellent value. Some years ago I looked after a friend's lovely (if fat and dandruffy) black lab for the summer. He was on a budget food and I switched him to Burns-not only did he need less of the Burns so the money left for the cheap food more than lasted the months I had him, but his skin cleared up, he lost weight, rediscovered his bounce and a rumour surfaced in the village that I must have failed to look after him as clearly I was now walking a new (and younger) black lab which must be a replacement...and the reviewer who mention the low residue effect is spot on-no more huge stinky poos to bag up - not the best part of being a dog owner, but much more tolerable with a Burns-fed dog..I have had a range of dogs including border terrier X, lurcher, akita and tibetan mastiff all thrive on this food, and they have had complements on their glossy coats, healthy weight, good condition into old age.Really do recommend this food if you are starting out with a new dog, have a dog with poor skin and coat, digestive problems or weight gain, or think your dogs diet needs changing. If it suits them you will probably start to see the benfits after 6-8 weeks

I've been feeding Burns Chicken and brown rice to my Labrador since she was a puppy. I found commercial dog food used to make her hyper so was recommended Burns by our Veterinary nurse. My dog always eats this and she is quite fussy. She also has a large number of allergies so as this is hypoallergenic it is the ideal diet for her. It is a natural and organic food so has no added nasty bits of beak or feet hat you get in cheaper brands. This food is made using human grade meat meaning it is of the same quality that is sold for human consumption. This food has never caused my dog to have an upset stomach or any issues with excrements. The food itself isn't strong smelling at all and the kibbles are a reasonable size.My dog has hers soaked in boiling water then cooled before serving so it's in a breadcrumb texture and she really like it that way. I mix some scrambled egg in of a morning as this is a good food to mix other food in with. It is a complete food so you do not need to feed your dog anything else and as long as you follow the daily feeding guideline you'll be providing your dog with a very healthy and balanced diet. I'd recommend this food to anyone.

I have been feeding my dogs Burns for years. It is not the cheapest, but it really is worth the money. My daft as a brush lurcher has a 'delicate' tummy and this is the only food that does not cause unpleasant upsets. Neither he, nor my other dog get fed up with this food. I do soak it in warm water and top it with a spoonfull of yoghurt though! For a treat I add a little marmite to the warm water and that seems to go down well too. I like to soak the food to ensure that they are getting enough water and I think it is a bit easier on the tummy than dried kibble on its own.Although it is impossible to say for sure, I do think my dogs are healthier as a result of being fed on this food. And buying this is certainly cheaper than visits to the vets.Give it a try, your dogs will thank you for it!(PS - I would buy Burns cat food regularly too, but the pesky creatures are so fickle that nectar of the Gods one week is not worth a sniff the next - so I rotate their foods, so far we have tried Arden Grange, Vets Kitchen, Yarrah, JBW, Burns and others I cant remember)

I have a rotti/staff cross. I have always fed him raw tripe and just gave a handful of complete biscuits as a supplement. I used to give him a bog standard cereal based one, but I was concerned about his joints and that he suffered from excessive itching, so I looked for a healthier alternative and switched to Burns. It was 3 times the price of what I had been buying, but well worth every penny. Some changes were immediately noticeable in that his stools became healthier (smaller and easier to pick up) and he began drinking a lot less water, which then meant he needed to wee less often too. Over a short period his shape changed considerably. He lost a lot of bulk from his hind quarters, became leaner, more agile and it seemed to take years off him. His coat is also good. I was amazed what a difference could be made from just a handful of biscuits! He has been on this same flavour for years now, and never tires of it. The small round pieces seem to add to his enjoyment as he gets to chase them around the bowl. I can't recommend this food highly enough.

sorry about the title for this review but I can't say I've tasted this. What I can say is I have fed dogs on the various products in the Burns range and have no complaints.I was introduced to Burns when Cindy my springer spaniel who was treated for a skin allergy which dragged on for sometime visited the vet.It was suggested the allergy may be food related and as Burns contains no GM modified ingredients this was the preferred choice. While not a cure it did ease the condition and maintainedher glossy coat.Twelve years on my current springer Sam has happily ate Burns food all his life and is a large rudely healthychap. It's a compact neat dry food and the dog won't over indulge too much it seemsto satisfy them with less.A point for the more waste conscious amongst us is that because of it's composition the food creates less waste when it comes to the pooper scoop. What more can I say only this food comes highly recommended by my friend Sam the Springer!!!

This is just great food, great quality, that my dogs have loved, adjusted to without fuss or upset tummies and, without being too graphic makes it much easier to "pick up" than some other foods. My dog's (Labrador)coat and skin is noticeably better too, with cheap foods her coat is greasy On this, her coat is smooth, clean and no cruft on your fingers afterwards. What's more, unlike many other brands, many famous, big name dog food brands. Burns do NOT test their food on laboratory dogs - it seems a cruel irony that by lovingly feeding your dog other brands you're sponsoring (what I feel) is dog cruelty. It's NOT the cheapest food, quite the opposite, probably the most expensive. But I think it's easily the best. it's made in the UK and it's ethical.Whilst Amazon's price was £4 cheaper than direct from Burns, or in a shop, it also took a week to arrive. If you but it direct from Burns you get free next day delivery.

We have 2 border collies and used to use Chappie, both wet and dry. We now use both this and tins or packs of Naturo. They have around 250 to 300 grams each of this per day, plus 2 tins of wet. It's been transformative. They now very rarely get us up in the middle of the night to toilet and their waste is easy to pick up. Their coats have noticeabley improved. The cost for this product is higher than other brands, but we use less, so it works out about roughly the same. We've also tried the Pork and Potato just for variety, and we've had the same good results.I'd definitely recommend giving this a go. We noticed a difference in a couple of days, though it took us around 2 to 3 weeks to settle on the amounts we now give them. This will differ for every dog, dependant on breed, size and amount of exercise they have. Best wishes.

We have two feisty Bichon Frise's whose coats get matted very easily. This food helps with their coats and helps make it more manageable when it comes to combing them each week.I had research a pet food which was not only good for them but for their general well being. We had tried many different brands and although Burns Dog food is a little on the expensive side, we are willing to put up with that, to keep our loveable and dogs healthy and happy. What do our dogs think of this food? Well lets put it this way, its all gone in about 10 minutes. THEY LOVE IT and our dogs are VERY choosy about the type of food they eat too. This 1 bag of food lasts us about 3.5 months for two dogs. For us and our dogs,we highly recommend this dog food. A+++++ and a hearty WOOOF WOOF WOOF from the dogs.

I work with dogs and believe this is the best quality food you can get. I have two dogs with allergies and this has helped hugely. Although it is more expensive than many other popular pet food brands you get what you pay for. Those junk food nasty feeds are not nutritious and you're never sure where the ingredients come from. This is different. Behaviourists also recommend this becuase it doesn't have the additives other do so is great for hyper dogs. Burn's is made in the UK with high quality ingredients. My dog was very overweight when we rescued him so I feexd him the amount on the packet and the weight has stayed off. Highly recommemd for greedy dogs who need light food like Retrievers and Labs.I believe it saves us money on vet bills now my dogs' skin is much better.

I switched my two Black labs on to this food now they're getting up in to middle age, we always used Burns fish & rice as my little one has IBS and it's an incredibly clean food (I have a show lab and a field lab, little one is my field lab, they're both 8, she's just slighter). Since they moved to "elderly/chicken" food they have stayed in top condition and I, like many of the other reviewers, am constantly complimented on their lovely healthy coats. They also have spectacular teeth for old girls. I can not recommend this food enough, my little one has had no trouble moving foods even with her IBS. They've both maintained a good weight into middle age and one is a total hoover.Just watch them eat or one will do both bowls - I'm looking at you Dallas!

Our dog Poppy seems to have a very sensitive tummy and as such we really struggled to find food that doesn't give her an upset tummy or wind!!! We did a lot of research in to different foods for dogs to try and fin something that would be good for her tummy and also that it does not contain too many bad ingredients or additives. This food ticks all our boxes and Poppy seems to really enjoy it and has no problems with her tummy getting upset. The size of the bag also makes it good value as does the fact that you don't need to feed your dog too much of it as it has all the good nutrients that is needed in a smaller amount. Please click on Yes if this review has been helpful as I can then adjust my future reviews to make them better.Thank you

My Dog has been on this food for around 5 years now. He has digestive issues and this is the only food that he can tolerate. He also used to get quite bad flakey skin before feeding him this and I can remember that clearing up within a few weeks. He will be 12 this year and we were told that he doesn’t need to move to the senior food, he should be able to eat this for the foreseeable. It also keeps his teeth pretty healthy as he has absolutely no teeth or gum problems and the vet mentioned that could be down to the dry food diet.Short of being a miracle cure for gut disease, bad skin and having better teeth then most elderly dogs,I would highly recommend this dog food.Anything that makes our best friend happier and healthier gets my vote.

So I am well aware of dog nutrition and I have always bought hypoallergenic food for my dogs, however, in the summer I decided to try my 2 pugs on raw as I am aware of all the health benefits. Unfortunately the raw feed just wasn't for us and during the summer/autumn one of my pugs skin was getting really bad (I have since put it down to a chicken intollerance). Since being on this food both of my pugs have lost weight and their coats are how they should be and the skin seems to have cleared up a lot on one of them, although it's still not perfect. I don't know why it's taken me so long to buy burns as I used to reccommend it to customers all the time!Well worth the money as you feed less per day than many other brands.

First of all let me say that Burns is excellent dog food. I have fed my last three dogs on it. Hence the five stars. Now the moan. I read the other reviews on here and quite a few people said that they got bags of dust etc. I did not get dust but all I can say is the bags that I got must have had a very hard life. Either stored incorrectly and/or been abused in transit. A lot of the kibble was broken up. It is useable but only just. I usually get my bags from Zooplus and they are delivered (free) from Germany. I have never had a bad bag from them. I spotted the Burns on Amazon at an excellent price and went for it. I will never buy my dog food from Amazon again. Burns 5 star.On this occasion Amazon a big ZERO.
