The dog, an older minature Yorkshire terrier, is a fussy eater who had been off her food for a couple of days but made short work of this new Purina food. The kibbles were small and not too hard; other foods she's been given have been too hard and she's ended up having to crunch it (loudly!) to be able to swallow it. Her owner is really pleased as he's bought bags of food in the past and ended up throwing it away or giving it away because she won't eat it. She's produced nice solid poos which are easy to pick up (sloppy poo is always a tell tell sign that the food not right for the dog, giving her a funny tummy). The dog is now working her way through through the whole bag.Looks like Purina has a new convert.Time will tell whether the OptiHealth ingredients included in this particular dog food will have a beneficial effect. Take a look at buying the food on subscription to reduce the price per bag, currently RRP £15.40 for 3kg, on at £13.90 (which is more expensive than feeding your dog 100% chicken). This complete dry pet food is part of the new Opti-nutrition range from Purina designed to meet the specific needs of different sizes, ages and conditions of dogs by the inclusion of targeted combinations of nutrients given names such as OptiAge, OptiDigest, OptiHealth and OptiDerma. They're a convenient way of giving your dog all the nutrients it needs for a heathy balanced diet (and also dry foods mean drier stools that are easier to pick up in a doggy waste bag!). It can be hard to know whether the claims made for various dog foods are valid or not without being a doggy nutritionist, but there are some clues to go on, and of course the starting point has to be whether your dog(s) will eat the food or not!The pack contains a helpful feeding guide based on activity level as well as weight; different dogs have different activity levels, and dogs tend to become less active as they become older. That hasn't happened to this little dog though - she can run after balls for hours! The packaging is well-designed with a good-sized opening, a grab handle and a re-sealable top (to prevent the food going stale or smelling out the kitchen) which is easy to use.Purina is a premium brand that comes in at a premium price. The food, based on chicken (14%), doesn't smell of anything much. Total protein content is 25%, which also includes deyhdrated poulty protein. As well as protein, the food contains grains (wheat, rice(4%), maize), soya, chicory, fish oils and animal fats (fat content 15%), dried egg and so on in different proportions to other foods in the range - presumably that's the OptiAge combination. There is also the mystery ingredient called simply "Digest" as well as gluten and unspecified minerals.I don't have any problem with the use of dehydrated poulty protein to boost the chicken content. However, I don't understand some of the other ingredients and why they're added; there may be good reasons, but they're not explained and I'm not a doggy nutritionist so can't tell the difference between a helpful additive and a cheap filler that's bulking out the product. In comparison, over half the RSPCA dog food is chicken meal and rice (£10 for 2 kilos).I do worry a bit that the enthusiasm with which dogs wolf down these sorts of dry foods means they're a bit like MacDonalds - food that has a lot of science in it, tastes great so you want more and is healthy up to a point but shouldn't be relied on as the main source of food, just as a treat.Loses a point for seeming to be expensive based on the ingredients it contains.

Purina PRO PLAN Dog Small and Mini Adult with OptiHealth Rich in Chicken Dry Food - 3 kgThis is one of Purina’s new tailored diet products for dogs.Ingredients.The ingredients are listed on the back. I always look for the ash content as this is an indicator of the amount of non-nutritional filler used. In this product it is 7% which is quite low compared to cheaper foods.I wish manufacturers would be clearer about the ingredients as there are three separate listings in this food about the actual ingredients. It does contain wheat and soya protein which should be noted if you dog has an allergy problem with either ingredients.Bag.The food comes in a resalable strong bag for easy storage and decanting. There is a detailed feeding guide on the back.Taste test.Fed to my slightly overweight 13 year old Jack Russell. She liked it and not much was left over. There has been no change to her bowl movements with two regular outings a day. So this has been a great success. As the food is low in fattening ingredients I hope this will help reduce her weight a little. Exercise can only be limited with her due to a long standing leg injusry.Overall.The food is palatable has had no adverse effect on bowl movements so can be considered a success. The ingredients don’t justify the cost in my opinion but then there has been no waste. It is marketed as a premium product but the ingredients listed are common to most foods, it seems only the amounts of more quality ingredients vary between ranges. We have good results with the old Jack Russel we have and already she is showing better health. but I suggest trying a small amount before buying it in a bulk lot first..

I'm always cautious when looking for a few dog food, as one of our dogs is quite selective about what she eats. This probably stems from her having a delicate stomach and some foods simply make her sick - even if she loved eating them at the time. I usually know that if she takes one sniff and walks away, no amount of perseverance on my part will make her change her mind. On one occasion, she refused to eat solids for 3 days. Then there is the problem of finding a food that she really does like, only for it to end up giving her diarrhoea. Thankfully, my concerns were relieved when trying this - she loved it mixed with her regular homemade wet food, and she even loved it dry!I thought this was all too good to be true - I was waiting for the liquids to shoot from both ends… but nothing happened except the production of a very healthy looking stool (I'm a nurse - I know what a good poo looks like!) and a satisfied dog! No diarrhoea or vomiting whatsoever. I scoured through the list of ingredients first, and at first look, it seems pretty well balanced, nutritionally. We still add her own supplements to the feed, ensuring none of this is present in these biscuits, and after almost a week, she's doing so well. This morning, we even noticed her energy is increased a little. Admittedly, we need to assess her progress over a longer period, but in these early stages, we're delighted. I would say that I can't really recommend this, as all dogs have different requirements, and this pooch is probably a special case - but if you choose this product to try out, you would probably be doing a positive thing.

Purina Pro Plan is a premium priced dog kibble, although the ingredients don't quite match those of other brand premium line dog foods, being rather high in wheat, which is a known allergen for many dogs. The kibble is a decent size and shape for small and mini breeds, (Westies, Shi-Tsu's, Chihuahuas, Mini. Pinschers, mini and toy poodles, Bichon Frise etc). They are small easy to eat cubes that have enough crunch in them to give a good dental workout. We got this for a Westie who was staying with us for a few days, our own Springers have already tested Purina Pro Plan and enjoyed it but they are not particularly discerning consumers. They ate every bit that was in their bowl and looked for more. The little Westie was a bit more suspicious, but that could have also been down to being in a strange environment, we had been told she would eat anything. She did eventually eat 2/3rds of what was in her bowl. The kibble is a good size and shape to be used as dog treats; most dogs will of course take anything that is hand-fed, other than something containing a tablet. The food is very practically packaged with a tear off corner and is re-sealable for freshness. There is very little aroma compared with some foods, although the dogs were able to detect something through a sealed packet.I would also make a criticism that has been made by others, which is that the price per kilo for this food isn't reflected in the quality of the ingredients - there are other premium dog foods with much higher levels of meat/animal derivatives in the kibble.

Purina PRO PLAN Small and Mini Adult OptiHealth with Chicken (3kg) is a well balanced dry food for small dogs and mini adults and can be fed through any stage of your dog's life. It is easily digested so this dry dog food can also be fed to dogs with sensitive digestions. This dog food has ingredients that promote perfect heart health, healthy skin, dental care and healthy joints, skin and coat. After I opened the packet of Purina PRO PLAN , I immediately noticed a not unpleasant yet fairly strong smell (sort of a cross between roast chicken and an oxo cube). The kibbles are brown, small, semi hard and square. When 'Honey' our Jack Russell Terrier was younger she was an extremely fussy eater, now she is older this is not the case. She will eat most dry dog foods as long as it has a reasonable smell and taste. However, our dog may like any food but unfortunately not every food likes her, nor us which is more to the point as she often suffers with terrible very 'smelly' wind.I measured out 80g of food and poured it into her bowl and then called 'Honey' who when she realised it was dinner time came in running. And without any hesitation at all ... She ate the lot. Then we waited.I am pleased to say this time the 'wind' stayed away.Time will tell regarding whether this dog food improves Honey's health and vitality. She is already healthy and has a fairly glossy coat.

If you're reading this post and are interested in my other reviews of this manufacturers products, dont. All the words are the same since all the results have been the same with one caveat. Check the size of your pet and how big the food pellets are. Two of these packets came with small pellets, fine for my large do he just needed more of them, but the large pellets may be too big for very small dogs. The review is going to be rather short. My measure of success for our pets is how the food affectes them. Do they suddenly start farting obnoxious gas? Does it affect their general mood and well-being? Does it make them require more trips to eradicate the body of waste?I can happily report that none of these appeared in either of our dogs.Nor can I report that the introduction of new food sent them scapering for the hills with the look of 'I;m not eating that,' on their face.Is it any more nutrious than the other food we feed them? I don't know. All packaging generally extolls the virtues of their own manufactured product but since our dogs behaviour didn't changed during this period suggest that at least it isn't filled with too much chemical nonsense.

I'm reviewing urina PRO PLAN Dog Small and Mini Adult with OptiHealth Rich in Chicken Dry Food , here are my thoughts:^^ PURINA PRO PLAN with OPTIHEALTH is designed for optimum long term health for a wide range of tastes and sizes. This one is for small and mini adults and it's made with chicken.^^ The kibble with this is very tiny, making it easier for small and adult dogs to eat and digest.^^ Comes in a sack type 3KG bag, which is a decent, fairly long-lasting sized pack for small dogs.^^ Out of all of the different Pro Plan range, this one is actually my dogs' favourite.Overall:I am happy to provide this to my dogs knowing that the brand is a trusted and reliable company and of course,it's a bonus when my dogs love it, since it is then money not wasted but indeed well spent. Don't forget, I do not give my dogs just this dry food diet and insist on a balanced and varied selection. If you change your dog's diet, please don't do it all of a sudden, small changes over time are better for their stomachs. Can happily recommend this.

It was nice to see this specialist food for tiny dogs and so I ordered it to see what my dog thought about it. She is a jack russell chihuahua cross and very much her own person. She absolutely adores it. Wolfed it down and came looking for seconds. So I think it is a success! It is a Purina product so you know it is factory food with things in it that a dog would never normally eat, but busy lives and lack of time tend to push us in the direction of giving out pets what they love to eat, even if it may not always be the most healthy option. These days most of us don't have the time or energy to mess about, so you end up compromising. There are other options with less additives and I aim for those when I can,but at least Purina have made the effort to tailor the product specifically for the needs of the size and type of dog and included good things like Omega 3. My dog certainly approves of it - and you can't argue with that.

I don't think you can go wrong with Purina - they just seem to make quality pet food that agrees with sensitive skin and sensitive tummies that goes down well with pets.I ordered this for my Jack Russells, one of which has very sensitive skin which becomes sore and inflamed when something does not agree with him.The dogs really seemed to like this food, but as they are greedy little terriers who don't come up for breath, they seemed to get the small kibble food down the wrong way sometimes and often ended up coughing / choking. That is not a fault of the food per se, but it is a reflection on how fast they eat, so I do wonder if the kibble size is better for actual mini dogs, not terriers and it was my mistake assuming that Jack Russells are small. The dogs liked the taste and we have not had any skin issues. So just 4 stars, with one removed for the small kibble not agreeing with my greedy dogs.

Well the terrier loves this food, but its a dog and a greedy one at that so will pretty much eat anything placed in front of it... I guess this is why dog food is hard to review. The packaging is good and secure, nice plastic used, and has a freshness seal so you open the pack by the corner and under this is a seal like you will get on a sandwich bag. This is handy for keeping the food fresh and not letting it go stale. The mix is a nice small size... ill be honest and say for terriers, unless miniatures, you may be better with the larger size for medium dogs. This hasn't been given 5* as the price would dissuade me from buying as a regular food for the dog as there are other food on the market that offer similar nutrition and are cheaper. That said this is still very good food for the dog

I have had some experience of Purina pro plan before and Ben loved it and as he is such a fussy eater and being a miniature cockerpoo I was keen to give this a go. Again he devoured it, he likes the kibble as much as he likes his little treats and for me it is worth the extra as I am not wasting it.Now looking at the ingredients for what you get the price is expensive. The chicken content is lower than in his other food and the fat and fibre content seem roughly the same. There is no adverse smell with this food and the resealable bag is a bonus as it is easy to keep fresh. For me a good quality food which if you have a small dog who is a fussy eater then this is worth every penny for meas he enjoys it and there is no waste.I certainly recommend.

We have a 9 year old dog. Of course she is slowing down and has creaky and painful joints - so anything that will help her in her aging years is of interest. Here's the claim:Through our exclusive, patented* blend of nutrients, OPTIAGE is proven to enhance brain function and helps increase activity levels, liveliness and interest in playtime so you can keep living an amazing life together. Its doesnt exactly say what it is, that keep the brain active. I am curious what that is, but with a pat pending - guess it remains a 'secret' for now.It does contain fish oil..so maybe thats the 'magic' ingredent? In any case, Woof likes it. and is happy to graze on this throughout the day.Its a small sized kibble with a nice smell and good crunch.

This is one dry food our Boston Terrier will eat, he has been a little faddy about dry foods but this one seems to be a winner. Did have the puppy food to begin with in this range, so maybe that could be the reason this is preferred over other dry foods.I prefer him to have dry as seems better for teeth cleaning and also less flies about in warm weather, plus this seems to get eaten up as soon as in bowl.No funny smell, easy packet to open another bonus for me, tins etc a pain with having OA in hands. Pricewise not that expensive for a small dog compared to some others on market and in pet stores which seem to have that many vegetables, pasta bits etc in them you could be mistaken for thinking them being a human casserole.

The Purina PRO PLAN Dog Small and Mini Adult with OptiHealth Rich in Chicken Dry Food - 3 kg arrives in a sturdy bag that you can keep the food in and is re-sealable. I note the first content is Dehydrated poultry protein, Wheat, Maize, Chicken (14%) I researched the ingredient Dehydrated poultry protein which is commonly used in animal feed, I have not noted any negative comments The pellets are of a small size which suits our dogs very well. The food has no particular smell. The dogs i gave this too, King Charles, Patterdale and Jack Russell all found this food very agreeable. The food has had a positive effect on them and I can report the results as being very good indeed and highlyfavourable.

Product is not available for prime delivery, it becomes apparent AFTER you’ve paid. You get an email to say it will be delivered as soon as it’s back in stock. I find this misleading and annoying. The product itself is good, I buy this for my 2 shih-tzus who need a small sized food. Ideal as a complete meal or mixed with wet food. I like the fact it doesn’t attract flies in warmer weather and it can be left in their bowls to eat as and when they need it, especially if I am at work all day.Good value for money, definitely a lot cheaper than the extortionate prices in pet shops.Have now subscribed to get the product on a regular basis, hopefully the next package will arrive on time.
