I was looking forward to receiving this item in the post ( Yes, I do need to get out more!), as I wanted to make a batch of chicken gravy. However, the last time I made it, by the time I'd finished fannying around skimming the fat off the top of the pan, I'd lost my appetite. This is just the gadget to alleviate all that fannying around.I don't bother using the stainer on the top of the jug, as I strain my gravy first through a very fine sieve. Then, I simply pour the liquid into the jug, let it stand for about 5 mins, and when you see a noticeable fatty oil slick on the top, simply pour into a pan or container, and leave the fat on the bottom of the jug. You could always use a little of the fat to make a roux,if you prefer.I wouldn't make gravy without this now. It's very sturdy, and cleans up easily. I opted for the larger, 1l jug, as it's easier to transfer into.

Thanksgiving and Christmas are the two holidays in the year where this fat separater is worth it's weight in gold. With all of the nutrition guidelines, just thinking of the fat in gravy is enough to make one ill. Good gravy is a wonderous food. Gravy, stuffing and mashed potatoes are the perfect food. This heat-resistant 4-cup separator is fitted with a strainer on top to catch any unwanted bits. I let the fat rise to the top while the gravy settles to the bottom from where it can be easily poured out of the spout. This is a must for holiday and Thanksgiving dinners. If you do not have one, ask for one as a gift or purchase one. This is such an important part of any holiday dinner that involves meat and gravy.Recommended.prisrob 08-27-14

I've had a few gravy separators in the past and none have been entirely satisfactory and a common problem has been the plastic cracking with use. I have the smaller size (2-Cup) version of this jug and as it has performed well (and hasn't cracked with hot fat over time) I got this larger size for larger quantities of liquid. I also use the separator for collecting liquid from my juicer as some fruits, pineapple in particular, create a foamy liquid at first, but, on standing the clear juice sinks to the bottom and a layer of foam rises to the top. This separator jug is ideal for drawing off the clear liquid leaving the foam behind. These jugs have a good, comfortable handle that doesn't slip and they dish-wash with no problems.

This is the best thing I have bought in ages , I love it, I have held off buying one for so long worried that it might not work and end up being hidden in the cupboard, but this is marvellous for separating gravy and I know that I am not consuming all those globules of fat because I can see them in the separating jug. Its easy to wash and appears quite robust, I have used it for every gravy dinner since I bought it and would recommend it to anyone !

Very pleased with this jug. It's well designed and holds plenty of meat juices with a wide neck for easy filling. Start pouring carefully, since the wider top can make it top heavy until sufficient liquid has gone through the filter to stabilize it. We let the liquids cool a little before pouring into the jug as our old cheaper models used to crack after a short time. We also have a Pyrex one but are afraid of breaking it. This one fits the bill.

Basically brilliant. Minor niggles: the spout is tricky to clean; the surface is a little prone to scratching. I should have got the 500ml size - 1l is far more juice than even a turkey oozes. So unless you're roasting whole pigs, or separating your gravy for 12 people after making it up, go for a smaller size.Having said all that, the separator works effectively on 100ml of juice, especially when you use the stopper. It's a great design.

I was tired of trying to spoon the fat off the meat juices to make the Sunday roast gravy so looked into the gravy seperater jugs online. I chose this one because of the size and it looked easy to use.It is easy to use the fat rests on the top, you remove the spout stopper and poor until you are just left with the fat in the jug. It’s great, I use it every week to make wonderful gravy.

Always had to be scooping the oil from the top of cooked mince etc - never had a gravy seperator before - after using this one, I don't see how I'll cope without one again! Really does seperate the oil from everything else and you just pour out the good stuff and get rid of the oil - was quite excited when I used it for the first time! Really does what it says on the tin!

A useful piece of kitchen equipment to have around. The filter in the top stops most of the larger bits of crap getting into the gravy and the stopper and spout make it easy to separate out the fat. Useful measurements on the side and a good rubber grip. Only down side is that you need some sort of pipe cleaner to wash the spout out. Should have got one a long time ago.

This jug is great, a lot better than some of the others on the market as it is twice the size of them, allowing you to do a reasonable batch in one go, I have found enough for 6 depending of course how much is oil and how much gravy you like on your plate! The strainer on the top is also a good depth to stain out any veg etc. I would recommend this item.

Having been disappointed with all my previous purchases of gravy/fat separators I’d given up and just did it the old fashioned, messy way. After coming across the great reviews for this product I decided to give this one a go. Wow! The spout is positioned right at the bottom of the jug so you get every bit of the good stuff.

Far better than expected, having tried several before this. The red plug really works in keeping fat out of the funnel-make sure it's in place before pouring the liquid in. The sieve lid is handy if using vegetables in your stock. Good size too. I use it every week now. No problems in the dishwasher either.

I have always had glass separators until some months ago when I got a small non glass one which split along one of its seams. This one however so far seems to be more robust. The stopper is a great idea stopping the inflow of fat into the spout. Comfortable and non slip handle is good.

These jugs are great for separating the fat. I use it when I've cooked a joint or whole chicken in my slow cooker as I always put some stock in around the bottom so I can easily separate the fat from the stock and use the stock towards making enough gravy. Great product!

This is good, but the top filter section has big holes and so lets a lot of things through; it's certainly not a sieve. And the hole between the jug and the spout is large, so can let fat/grease through when pouring if you're not careful.Good enough, but not perfect.
