The missus insisted the pressure cooker was broken, "It can't be!" I shouted, I put a new gasket in it in 1982!"And then she admitted it wasn't the same cooker. She's REPLACED the perfectly good pan with another identical one which was newer, in 1984 or 5. I was livid at her extravagance and ranted and raved for several hours from the garden shed about her spendthrift ways. She then explained that her aunt had moved into a new flat in 1983 and had feared that the confined space would increase the pressure too much and there would be a terrible awful accident, so had given us her almost new hi-dome so that we might have the accident instead. She hadn't dared tell me in case I went off on a parsimonious rant about what a waste it had been to put a brand new expensive gasket onto a p-cooker which was being discarded."Where's the old one?" I sulked. "I preferred the old one. It had more character and cooked better.""I gave it away, and anyway you never noticed the change. You thought it was the one you said you preferred." Ah, I had the answer to that one."You said it was broken, just now.""Yes, it's been hissing steam and things are burning. Maybe we should get a new cooker?"...and so I ordered the review item before she had chance to get yet another pressure cooker. It arrived.I was disappointed. It looked exactly like the old one. Side-by-side, there was no difference. Both were round and a bit springy and seemed exactly the same thickness. Maybe I'd wasted a fiver, I thought in a panic."No I don't know where you put your micrometer!" she shouted. "Nor the old imperial micrometer nor the vernier calipers you got from America with the fractions on it"Damn! I thought. I didn't know she knew about that. Well, I couldn't find the digital gauge either and I quickly learned (uincomfortably) that she didn't off-hand know the figures for, and had no interest in learning about, Young's Modulus anyway...So I bit the bullet and fitted the obvious waste-of-money new ring, cursing as the cardboard label tore. I'll not be able to send it back now.We made stew, to the recipe on page 329, arguing about the amount of chilli as usual. We compromised and she measured out a small spoonful. I added the rest when she went to answer the phone, stirring it in quickly to hide the thick red layer.Time to put the lid on. It was noticeably tighter and everything went together with a very satisfying squeezy-sealy feel. Before it had felt the teensiest bit loose. The pan came up to a pressure quickly, as it always did but no longer leaked like a politician's promise once the heat was backed down to "simmer" again. The stew was delicious, and hadn't lost lots of liquid like it had been doing and the turnips hadn't stuck to the bottom of the pan. Nothing burned - except my mouth. Next time I'll let +her+ put the chilli in.–––––––––––––––––It looks annoyingly just like the old one but now it worls

An essential consumable part to be regularly replaced to keep your pressure cooker working correctly.I use my Prestige Hi-Dome pressure cooker almost every day, and one many of those days I use it more than once. Over time they harden and shrink a little and eventually don't seal effectively. I tend to find that mine need changing every three to six months, but I do use mine far more than most people. My late mum had the same model and only needed an annual replacement. There are some third party seals available but they're not much cheaper; I've only used them once before and found they needed changing far sooner. I know other users (such as my mum and aunt)who have used non-original seals and found that they were a poor fit and didn't seal very well. These things aren't expensive considering the huge amount of time I save by pressure cooking.Note that you MUST buy the correct seal for your cooker: the aluminium cookers use these black seals and the stainless steel models (which don't work to the same high pressure) must use the light grey version.Either way, NEVER put the seals through a dishwasher: that ages them far more quickly and will result in them lasting half as long at best. Just wash them manually using washing-up liquid and water and after drying wipe them over with a paper kitchen towel and a little cooking oil and then refit into the lid.

I was surprised at a minimum order quantity of two gaskets when the cooker takes just one. But seeing a recommended replacement interval of 6 months makes that more sensible. Its only a shaped V section rubber ring for heaven's sake although it has to withstand superheated steam under pressure.I was using a second hand high dome and had to bind the handle since I was leaking steam and fluids between the handle parts. Couldn't make steam pressure until I did. How old was my cooker? I bought it sech. about 5 years back and the old seal is noticeably harder and stiffer than the new.No regrets. Buy the proper part and replace at the proper time and the old HiDome will last as long as mymum's.Recommended.

I lost my original pressure-cooker gasket in the depths of the River Thurne, on the Norfolk Broads, having put some oil in it ready to start cooking, when my young Border Collie decided it smelled lovely, and tipped the cooker lid overboard....we retrieved the lid, minus the gasket. Told that a new one would be despatched in about a week, we were amazed when it turned up the next day, and the pressure-cooker now works better than it has in a long while. The new one from Amazon was very reasonably priced in comparison to others I looked up, so well done! It was nothing to get steamed up about after all!

Unable to source locally a replacement gasket for my 1980's pressure cooker I searched on Amazon. Unfortunately all the gaskets shown either didn't give model numbers/dimensions or year of manufacture for each item so made searching difficult. I contacted Prestige who gave me the model number of the gasket for this particular pressure cooker. This spare model number is 96430 which is 24cm outside rim and 22cm inside rim diameter. This is not a 'high' dome model cooker.I ordered the gasket which arrived in a couple of days so now have a 'working' pressure cooker.Thank you to all concerned.

There is very little that can go wrong with a pressure cooker. Apart from the pressure control valve, the only things that could fail are the rubber seal between the lid and the body and the emergency pressure release valve - both of which are relatively low cost items (which the manufacturers suggest changing every year anyway). Bought this seal to replace one that was several years old which had started to harden and begin to leak (which meant that it took a long time to reach pressure). New seal instantly rejuvenated the pressure cooker and saved me having to spend £40+ on a new one.

These are a consumable item as they harden with usage to the point where they no longer seal, so I always keep at least one in reserve. Don’t put these through a dishwasher: that hardens them very quickly indeed. As they’re consumables, I can’t claim that they’re durable. But I use my pressure cooker most days and tend to find that the seal needs changing about two or three times a year. So they’re acceptably durable. They’re not especially expensive, and non-genuine alternatives will only be worth considering when Prestige cease manufacturing these at some point far into the future.

Unable to easily obtain the part in my usual retail outlets. Description and comments on web site assured that the part was correct for my cooker. The cost with postage was still cheaper than what I had paid for the part, in the shop, on previous occasions. It arrived within a couple of days and fitted perfectly. The part was accompanied by the manufacturer's instruction card, which give clear directions as to the advised renewal period for the gasket. My cooker is now working efficiently.

So after discovering my 20+ year old pressure cooker's gasket was a shriveled wreck, and that this might explain the constant dripping from the lid, I thought I'd have to buy a new pressure cooker. "There's no way anyone would still be making gaskets for a unit this old", I thought. Well, I'm pleased to say I was wrong, and the replacement gasket arrived within 24 hours. Given how expensive decent pressure cookers are, it's saved me a not insignificant chunk of money.

There's not a lot to say about this item but I'll give it a go.My mother in law doesn't have the internet but because the main shop she previously bought this from was now closed she asked for help. This is where super Amazon comes in, first class service, delivery on time and genuine product as well. what more can you ask.Anyone who has a pressure cooker, most probably has a Prestige unit, so to get genuine spares is brilliant from the best Internet vendor ever!

I have had my pressure cooker for 48 years and when the seal finally went, thought it had seen its last cooking episode - however, found replacement seal on Amazon and off we went again. Have to say, the company that supplied it was also really good as I thought it had been lost in the post and contacted them and they were about to send a replacement at no cost to me when it turned up. Let them know as I felt was only fair and had lovely reply from them. Thanks

I previously ordered the Prestige Pressure Cooker Gasket with the Red and White cardboard label, but it was too small and I returned it to Amazon for a full refund. This gasket is the perfect fit for my ancient Prestige High Domed Aluminium Pressure Cooker - with an inside lid measurement of 24cms.Would like to give it 5 stars, but I have not tried it under pressure yet, and do not know whether it will leak and drip as a previous reviewer has written.

This gasket is a rubber gasket for an aluminium pressure cooker not an aluminium gasket as the description infers. My experience with this gasket is that it came in a plastic bag and when removed from the aforesaid bag was fairly easy to fix in the lid of the pressure cooker in which position it afforded a steamproof seal when the pressure cooker was heated to boiling point (after some water was introduced into the pressure cooker)Hows that!

This is a genuine replacement manufacturers gasket which has been supplied, however it is made from a different from the manufacturers original. With this in mind I cannot comment on the new gasket durability. Suffice to say it would appear to be a genuine manufacturers replacement, it fits well and it arrived in good time at a good price so cant complain about the new gasket. I would recommend this as a replacement.

I use my prestige pressure cooker a great deal, I have owned this particular cooker for 25 years. I use it for softening seville oranges for making marmalade. Therefore, I have to replace the gasket and other 'spares' frequently. Used to go to a local hardware store, but with these disappearing locally, it makes sense to order on-line. This was a competitive price with free p&p. Arrived very quickly. Great service.
