About 15 or 20 years ago, I bought a microwave rice cooker in an Asian market in Zürich. In the meantime, having been in use to cook our rice at least 4xWeek, it had seen better days. Although the lid "locks" had long since broken off, it still worked just fine. I moved to France, and my daughter in Zürich kept the rice cooker. Needing one myself, and not finding one in the Asian markets, I sought to buy one online. Amazon UK offered just the thing I was seeking, however at the time, they did not send marketplace items outside of the UK. I had the cooker sent to the daughter of a British expat, and she kindly brought it along when she came to visit her father. Meanwhile,it seems that everyone my daughter knows wants one, so we have ordered several from Amazon.UK, and they now send marketplace items to other countries. We have made a number of people very happy with this item, which I can very highly recommend. We cook rice, full rice, polenta, grits, oatmeal, grains, millet, etc. in the cooker. I have found that the best way is to boil the water first in the electric kettle (it boils faster in the kettle than in the microwave) and then to proceed from there. When cooking polenta or grits, add half the water or bouillon and stir every 5 or 10 minutes or so to keep it smooth and creamy. Then, when it has thickened, add the rest of the water/bouillon and continue cooking and occassionally stirring until it is finished. It beats standing over the pot and stirring for an hour, and it doesn't ever stick or burn! Also, I start on high power and reduce to medium or low for polenta and grits, oatmeal and small grains such as millet.

I bought this to replace a different model - one with an inner 'sieve' container to hold the rice. I was trying to find an exact replacement as I thought that was the best type, but couldn't so I settled for this. I'm glad I did as I am totally delighted with it - it produces great rice, better than my previous version, and it is solidly made and should last years.Looking at it, you could be forgiven for thinking it is little more than a microwaveable bowl, so why buy it? Well, it has an inner lid which seems to do something clever with condensing the steam, keeping the right amount of water in the pot to cook perfectly. I'm not too sure of the exact science, but it certainly works a lot better than a simple bowl and it is also far better made than regular microwave pots.It doesn't have much in the way of instructions, but if you start on 1 volume of rice + 2 of water, you won't go far wrong. You can reduce the water somewhat if you are cooking more than a single measure of rice, but you don't need to be too precise as it seems very tolerant of having a bit too much or little. We've never yet had a duff batch of rice from it. Although it doesn't claim to be a vegetable steamer, it does an excellent job of doing that too. I just follow the times given in my microwave instructions (or via Google) and get good results.I love it - it's fast, solidly built, easy to clean, and produces really good rice. At this price, it's a bargain, and I would certainly by another if anything happened to my current one.

I have this rice cooker and I've been using it for years. I can't remember whether I bought it from or through Amazon but, anyway, here's my review for what it is worth. This little rice cooker has served me well for several years. It is made of much more durable plastic than the more expensive "see through" type which cracks after a certain amount of use.The instructions that came with mine were clearly not much use and I used my experience of stove top rice cooking to inform my use of this pot.I have to say that anyone microwaving rice on high for ten minutes really is not thinking things through and is asking for a disaster.I either add water, brought to the boil in my electric kettle,to the rice in the pot and then microwave on medium for 8-10 minutes or I cover the rice with cold water to twice the depth of the (washed) rice in the pot, microwave on high for 2 minutes, then on medium for 8 minutes or on low for 12 minutes. All water is absorbed and the result is perfectly cooked, fluffy rice.It must be stressed that the rice should always be thoroughly washed under cold running water before cooking. That gets rid of the starch powder present on all milled rice and which during cooking will cause your rice to become a sticky mess.To those who found this pot to be less than useful, I'd say that the most important ingredient in the preparation of meals is common sense and, really, it's not that difficult to transfer experience and knowledge of traditional cooking methods to microwave cookery.

This is the third of this type I have purchased. Like an idiot I assumed there would be adequate instructions included as last time and the time before. Nope, just a couple of vague sentences on the box. Nothing on the web either. However, following an email to Kitchencraft they kindly sent the following. Here it is :MICROWAVE RICE COOKER INSTRUCTIONSThis product is not only microwave safe but also fridge/freezer safe and dishwasher safe.Preparation:RICEWATER3 Cups4 ¼ Cups2 Cups3 Cups1 Cup1 ½ CupsCOOKING TIME (Full Power)15-18 mins13-15 mins9-11 minsPreparation ratios may be varied according to taste.Always stop cooking half way through and stir.Using guide:Place all ingredients into the rice cooker.Place the required amount of water into the rice cooker depending on how much rice is beingcooked.Place the lid on top of the container and make sure the locking clips at each side are fastened.Cook for the required time.Microwave at "High" power setting. Allow cooked rice to "stand" for two minutes before serving.I hope this will be helpful and perhaps Kitchencraft will at least print 'em on the box at some point. The product itself is cheap and cheerful and now rather expensive for what it is, the plastic will flake and peel inside with time and it is essential you use the plastic spoon provided to delay this. But I keep buying these simply because they are foolproof ( and I CAN cook rice the conventional way) and will make the best of even poor quality rice.

I have used microwave rice cookers for sometime now and they are absolutely fabulous! This little rice cooker comes with a measure and a spoon all very sweet I would be lost and certainly need a map without my rice cookers.I have had three now and they usually last well over 3 years or more depending on how you treat them. If like me you drop them on the floor (two in the space of six months!) of the kitchen and break them (Usually the handles!)you will obviously have to buy more but they do have a long shelf life and do not discolour like a lot of plastic microwave products. They will cook all sorts of rice ie long grain jasmine basmati wild and pretty angry rice oops non on that name as of yet!( as a little girl we got long and short rice now there are so many varieties!)Forget not knowing if your rice is water logged bone dry or stuck like it would hold wallpaper up this is the item for you!Although a small item it will cook enough rice to feed approx 6 people 4 very hungry ones or 2 who like to eat a horse cart and a bale of hay!Rice is cooked by the volume principle ie 1 measure of rice 2 and a half measures of water - however the more rice you cook the less water you need. Also a little tip if you do buy this rice cooker which is a complete whiz if cooking loads of rice put a small dish underneath the cooker just in case the water over flows saves you clearing up a puddle but this only happens if you are cooking absolutely loads of rice!

I've always been sceptical of microwave cooking devices, but since my wife and I are increased rice intake in order to reduce other foods I thought we'd give it a go.I've never had a problem cooking rice on the stove, it's not hard. Normally when it goes wrong it's when I've not kept an eye on the stove and have boiled it dry (it does happen). But the KitchenCraft Microwave Rice Cooker takes that small issue away, you just measure the rice, measure the water and set the timer and of it goes. There is an excellent method of measuring rice:water that is well known all around the world where rice cookers are used, THE MAGIC FINGER, measure out the amount of rice you need, rinse well in this pot draining off as required. Then fill with water until when you put your finger into it the water comes up to the first knuckle as it touches the rice. works every time. Can't believe I've always measured / weighed the water, this works much better. The results are easily as good as those produced on the stove, the main improvement for me is the massive increase in consistency, I get the same results time after time as I've effectively taken out the problem I had before (which was me, the cook).Would definitely recommend this and if this ever breaks I won't hesitate to buy another.

Ideal! I hate cooking, but I'm fussy about rice. In a 700W microwave it did two servings of soft brown rice in under 25 minutes. I didn't blanch the rice first (in case it was USA rice, for which rinsing loses nutrients), just tipped it in, guessed water, and microwaved it. The steam stayed within, so the microwave stayed dry. Not having bothered to read the instructions, I lifted it out by its ears and removed the lid without needing gloves; but the clear cover is hot and releases steam immediately, so now I knock it off. The instructions didn't mention the clear cover, but it works stacked just like the picture. It's made of tough plastic and is all smooth to wash up.I've since done: a serving of wholewheat pasta in under 10 minutes; broccoli, spinach and mixed veg from frozen; and sweet potatoes. I want to try doing a whole casserole or stew in it next. As you can tell, it's just about foolproof. It's cheaper than anything similar and does more than was suggested. As my electricity is metered, I compared the cost versus 'saucepanning' and this is cheaper too. No more steaming saucepans requiring supervision and ventilation :-D

I have been using this off and on for 18 months now and am happy with this product. Just follow the instructions on any rice packet and add the correct amount of water and put it in a microwave. You can tweak things (like adding a little more water for softer rice (refer to rice packaging again here or you practice)). It comes with a measuring cup and spatula and this is easy to use and easy to clean and does not scratch the inside container. With securing handles so you won’t have any accidental spillages, this even comes with a lid, that you can cover and put in the fridge. I however, just use the securing lid, place it in the fridge and have the rice the next day.I do this as it the box with lid stays put away and its easy and less cleaning as what do you do with the securing lid and the drip tray otherwise if you have to use the sealable lid? You can do what’s best for you, so it’s there if needed. Therefore, this product for the lowly price of £7.49 (what I paid) does the job and quite hassle free.I bought this in July 2013 for £7.49 and was selling for £6.99 at September 2016.

I've only done 2-3 batches with this rice cooker and I feel compelled to write a review.I'm a university student, don't have the money for a proper rice cooker so looked to this as an alternative. Love this for the following reasons:- Comes with it's own measuring cup and rice paddle, I didn't notice this in the description/photo so I was surprised when it came with them. They help a lot, especially the measuring cup as they provide their own specific proportions for rice and water.- Small. I came to University with one suitcase, this means I have to go back home with one. The fact that it's sized well (it can still cook rice for upwards of 3 people I'm guessing) is convenient.- Easy to clean, rice doesn't stick to the bottom and the clean up is extremely hassle free.- Cooks good rice. Previously I was using a pot to cook rice, rice always came out sticky and took upwards of 20 minutes to cook one batch of rice with constant need to supervise it. This cooks rice in under 12 minutes and the rice comes out good (I'm still trying to find the perfect combination).

Despite my first order being delivered with a broken handle and having to be replaced, once I got it home and tried out the replacementout I was hooked. Having used a plastic microwave ricecooker for some years and getting used to its ease and dependability, when mine went missing during a move I was heartbroken. I then tried another model I bought on Amazon, but it didn't work as well as the lost one. Then I saw this one with slightly larger capacity and thought I would give it one last try. This is an amazing item, comes with cup measure and stirrer, and one cup of rice and two cups of water will produce perfect rice in 10 minutes! (Yes, I didn't believe it either...). One and a half is 15 minutes, two is 20 minutes. All on full power in an 850 power microwave. No mess, no washing beforehand (you can if you want to), and each grain is loose and fluffy. Works a bit like a plastic pressure cooker just for rice. Buy one immediately, it is THAT good!

This is a great little device for cooking rice. It takes a few goes to get the quantities and time right but once you do you just fill it up and pop it in the microwave, leaving you free to prepare the rest of the meal. The cooked rice has that nice springy quality and tastes great. The microwave can be a little steamy after cooking so I wipe it down with a cloth once the rice is done.It is also perfect for making fried rice... Cook the rice as normal, fluff it with a skewer then leave to cool, preferably over night in the fridge. then the next day heat some oil in a pan, bung in the rice and stir fry it for a minute or two. Then pour in a couple of tablespoons of soy sauce and stir, then mash the rice down with a serving spoon to make sure it has soaked up the soy evenly. Stir and press down a few times then loosen the rice up and serve. I can now produce fried rice that is almost as good as from the local Chinese takeaway! Result :)

I was looking at electric rice cookers as I went through a Thai cooking phase. However, as I was unsure whether the phase would last I decided to get the microwave version instead as the price is insignificant for a kitchen gadget and it doesn't take up too much room. The cut a long story short the cooker is great. The cooking times have to be extended as you add more rice which isn't clear from the minimal instructions. Rice for 4 takes around 13 minutes and once cooked you can happily leave the lid on and wait for 20 minutes until you are ready to use it.I would recommend this product to free up your hob and to prevent boil-overs and the inevitable clean-up operation afterwards.I purchased one for a family member who says exactly the same thing and uses it a few times every week, her summary being: "I have always loathed cooking rice - this thing makes it just so easy".

Have been using this rice cooker for a month now, with mixed results (none of them too bad). That's because I find you need a little bit of experimentation with the quantities of rice and water and the cooking time to get the best results. I would suggest a new purchaser keeps brief notes of these things until you know how to get the best results every time. If you get it right it can certainly deliver the goods and it is very easy to use. The quality seems good for the price. If you are looking for a rice cooker it is certainly worth trying this one rather than splashing out £35 or more for an electric model.Even if you don't get on with it you will not have lost much at this price. If you have a small microwave check it will fit for height; it stands 16cm tall with the lid on. I have to take the grill out of the turntable to fit it in my medium-sized microwave.

I agree with the other 5* reviewers - this rice cooker is simple to use and produces excellent rice with very little trouble. There are many recipes in the reviews for cooking rice. But you can never have too many! Here's a hassle-free one for perfect, non-sticky rice:1. This is for white basmati in a 900-watt microwave.2. Put 1 cup of rice and 1 1/2 cups cold water in the rice cooker. Do not wash the rice and do not add salt.3. Put the lids on and cook on HIGH for about 7 minutes until just cooked (under-cook slightly rather than overcook).4. Put the rice in a strainer and swish cold water over it. This stops the cooking process and ensures separate grains.5. Drain the rice well, add salt as required, and return it to the rice cooker. When you are almost ready to serve, heat the rice on HIGH for 2 minutes without the lids on.This recipe is adapted from
