Took this bad boy out for a test run this evening for some steamed veggies.Seems easy enough to use and is a good size, loads of room for 2 of us - would probably hold enough for 6 depending on portion sizes, although the fuller you fill it the less space for the steam to circulate. You have to ensure the lid is down properly otherwise the clips won’t catch in place and you risk the lid coming away when you lift it, but that’s easy enough to check - just make sure everything is clipped in place prior to moving it.So, added water, placed in microwave and steamed our veg. Lifted it out and undid the lid - looking good so far.... then I attempted to lift the basket out. That’s where I came unstuck - whereas the basket didn’t.I couldn’t find an easy or obvious way to lift the basket out of the tub, which has now got super hot water in the base. There is a spout in the middle, but it’s hard to grip and it didn’t offer any leverage into getting the basket back out.I did eventually manage it, but it does seem like a slight oversight given that this range has worked so hard on other features such as the cool handles etc.So, unless I’m missing something, I’m not entirely certain how I’m supposed to separate the basket easily without scalding myself. There must be a knack to it - I’ve just not realised it yet.I’ve knocked a star off for this, but otherwise I’m chuffed with my purchase and can’t wait to try my others. Yes - I’ve reached that stage in life where I get excited at the prospect of purchasing and trying microwave valve containers.Update - after pointing out my problem with the lack of handle to the other half, he drilled a small hole in the post that sticks up in the middle of the basket and fed a small, thin cable tie through it for me (see picture). It’s just enough to hook my finger or a fork prong into so I can lift the tray out, it’s plastic so doesn’t upset the microwave and also is easy to clean. Now if Sistema cotton on to this there is no reason they couldn’t do something similar as part of the design. For those of you with existing products - there is a solution if you are careful when doing it.Further update: cooked some frozen kebab meat in this so as to cook it through without drying it out. Very impressed at how the meat turned out - just like I’d expect if I’d been & bought it from a kebab shop.IF YOU FOUND MY REVIEW HELPFUL please hit the button below. My review is about the 2.4 litre Sistema Microwave Steamer with Removable Steamer Basket. As a regular user of the Sistema noodle bowl (which is very versatile and useful), I was excited to learn about this steamer as I was looking for a quick and easy way to cook frozen vegetables (mainly broccoli and Brussel sprouts). This product works very well for that purpose and is easy to clean in the dishwasher. I wasn't sure which size to go for, so just went with the 2.4 litre version - this is ample for one person as you can fit a really generous portion in there. It would also suit two people but the portions won't be as generous.I think the smallest option would be a bit small for one person who wants a healthy portion. In regards to how to use it when cooking frozen sprouts and frozen broccoli, I just put all the veg into the steamer basket, add a little bit of water, put the lid on, open the vent and just cook it for 10 minutes on full power. The sprouts cook this way really well (I like them quite soft) - the broccoli cooks well enough too, but the sprouts really do cook well this way. When it's done and drained I like to put all the veg back in the tub, add some salt/pepper/butter (or olive oil) and give it all a good shake before serving.I would recommend this product as it makes it really easy to steam vegetables in the microwave (which is supposedly the best way to cook them in terms of keeping their nutrients). It's so much easier than boiling (which loses nutrients) and you don't have to worry about it boiling over. The only negative point is that you basically have to guess how long to cook stuff for in order to get it how you like it. I tend to cook the same stuff each day so it's not so bad. But I'm sure the more you use it, the easier guessing cooking times will get.

I bought this Microwave Steamer because the two that I already have are now quite old.The Sistema is very well made of quality plastic. Please be aware though, that despite the description and the comments in other reviews, I would warn that it is not burn proof, so please take care. When taking it out of the microwave, heat can be felt on the upturned corners and the container does get hot. Make sure the centre vent is fully open and that you take great care when unclipping and opening the lid so that you do not get burned by the steam escaping. The plastic also becomes a bit pliable with the heat.If you do as I do, and use the bottom of the steamer (underneath the basket part) for food, there is not much room. I only use a steamer for vegetables, putting the potatoes at the bottom and the other vegetables in the basket. The potatoes have to be cut fairly small, which is no problem if you are going to mash them. I find that with my 900w microwave the cooking time with veg for the 2 of us is around 14 mins, but you would need to refer to your own Microwave Instruction Booklet for your timings. The Microwave Steamer has such a nice snap shut system that it could also be used for storage in the freezer. This product is a good buy.

Been looking for a microwave steamer for ages just for saving time in steaming potatoes and vegetables. After reading all the good reviews of this product I decided to try it, especially as this medium one was the perfect size for my microwave. I'm impressed with this steamer. I have used it a few times now to do potatoes and vegetables like carrots, steamed through evenly and well each time. Depending on the portion you put in the time obviously varies but you just do a few minutes at a time until done. As long as the potatoes and vegetables have cooked through evenly what more do you want and this product does the job. Good quality plastic, does get hot the longer it is in microwave so you just have to be careful in handling but all in all I'm happy to have got this steamer. Steaming my potatoes and vegetables for pasta bakes, curries and mash has become a breeze now and saves so much time!

Having just bought a new 1000W Panasonic microwave/combi grill, I have been experimenting on more ways to make use of the microwave so I decided to try this steamer.I understood it would be a bit hit and miss to start with but oh my gosh, it was perfect first time. The 2.4 litre is a good size for 2 people for 3 veg, and you can fill it to the top and everything steams beautifully.I steamed cauliflower, potatoes and carrots to perfection in 15 minutes, I sliced the carrots, sliced the potatoes a little thinner than if I was boiling and cut the cauliflower in to small florets, everything held their shape, nothing was soggy and I can't wait to experiment further. If you prefer your veg a little crunchier probably 10 minutes in a 1000W microwave would suffice.I'm considering buying another one, perhaps the next size up to steam fish.

I have several of these now,k and Sistema are durable, do not stain and one can use them like a saucepan. I also use mine to eat out of as well! The base and lid are strong and smooth and easy to clean, machine or by hand. The clips would appear to catch dirt, but they do not - they open right back, but the material from which Sistema make their products, is exceptionally silky smooth and seems to shed off any liquid or dirt. i recommend these to anyone who uses a microwave a lot - it makes boiling and steaming, even baking, par for the course. The venting lid is far better in design than some toughened glass types of product, and it too seems to shed dirt - just squelch up and down in soapy hot water and rinse!Yes, it is also adequate to cope with a lot of steam - and when closed, is freezer-tight!

If I had known how convenient these microwave steamers were I would have bought them sooner. It makes steaming vegetables so much quicker and easier. While there are no definitive instructions with the steamers as to how long you need to steam any particular piece of veg after a bit of trial and error I found that a full load of broccoli takes less than 5 minutes. They have a pressure release valve on the lid so there is no danger of an exploding steamer box.I was so impressed I bought as set of three different sizes and a porridge bowl. For Sunday lunch I use the family sized 3.2 litre steamer, for a quiet dinner for two the 2.4 litre steamer and for the nights when I am Billy No Mates I use thelittle 1.4 litre steamer. They make portion sizing easy.Highly recommended.

It arrived on time and well packaged My cat fell in love with the box it came in and sat in it for half a day So Im loath to throw out the box . The steamer itself is a very good design .Once the lids on it wont spill any of it's contents should you accidently drop it tripping over a cat in a box and the vegies come out delicious except brussel sprouts . Even rubbish bins reject brussel sprouts but that another story .All in all Id recommend nthis brand of microwave cooking pots to everybody that has a microwave and a cat .I particularly like the "spout" in the middle of the tray . you can lift the tray in and out without getting hot water on your precious fingers which your going to need to stroke the cat with .So it gets a whole 5 stars from me .

THIS IS MY BEST MICROWAVE DISH EVER. I was looking for a rice steamer and found this. The quality of the conatiner is very good, firm plastic. The insert is made of thiner plastic with thin slits so the food does not fall through, the lid has a clip at each side , also has a flip on top to open steam vent. Washes really well with none of those dreadful slots where the water lodges in and drives you round the bend with the tea towel to get it dry. Main selling point in buying it was that it's the better plastic that is ok for your health. You can also use the container without inset to keep food in. I use it for vegs & rice, it's trial and error depending on your microwave size so started with 5 mins then checked and popped back in,easy peasy.

Sistema steamers are truly excellent, the small size being good for a single portion, the medium size being suitable for up to four portions depending on what is being steamed.Sistema steamers will boil potatoes covered with boiling water in 10 to 15 minutes, cook rice covered with boiling water in 10 minutes plus 10 minutes to let the rice absorb the remaining liquid, easily produce a risotto with a couple of stirs, and cook pasta to perfection in 15 minutes, and can be used to make gravies and sauces. All the ingredients can also be cooked together for rice dishes.I have used many different microwave steamers over the years and consider the Sistema steamers to be the easiest to use and themost sturdy.Thoroughly recommended.

Good item, trying to save a few pennies and time so we chuck frozen veg into this and zap it in the microwave, its quick and the veg is edible probably more the veg issue than the steamer - but you can't beat hob steamed veg,I certainly wouldn't do potatoes or anything like that in it. It was really bought for quickness and its being used so its not sitting in the cupboard. It is rather large tho and does take up some room, glad I didn't buy the large item as it definitely wouldn't fit into my microwave! Also have a little one so bought it to steam her veg instead of the faff of getting the hob steamer out,did fresh baby corn last night and they did come out a lot better than the frozen veg.

I've never had anything like this, but found it while looking for healthy ways to prepare food at night.funny enough, the very next day I received this, I found a similar one from the same brand but smaller in a big supermarket. It was both smaller and more expensive, so I think the price is very good on Amazon.the quality is good and although you could say it's just a piece of plastic, it's not made in China, but in New Zealand. You can feel the difference compared to other stuff you get in £1 shops with rough edges or containers that don't close properly (or that crack very easily).this one is smooth, good quality, well priced and it just works.I'm very happy with it.

Harking back to the jolly 1960s when tupperware was so festive and jolly and new, this Sistema steamer is just so good, santa Claus must have bought one for Mrs Santa for the North Pole Kitchen. It saves time when making wooden toys and teddy bears for good boys and girls and you don't need any coal or gas to heat up nasty old ovens. Those are for wicked old witches to use, not attractive elves who cook in a microwave !Even fish fillets in breadcrumbs cook to perfection after 5 minutes on full power. Add steamed potatoes and carrots. Lemon juice, a spoonful of mayonnaise and you're ready to eat in front of your big, colour television set, hurry " Shrek the Halls" is on...

These are great; they cook the vegetables perfectly. I previously used to use a Pyrex dish to cook my veg in the microwave. Consequently, I always ended up with a mass of disintegrated spinach, mixed in with the peas. This makes it easier to produce appetising-looking vegetables. I presume that it is healthier too as it seems to cook them much more quickly.I am so delighted with these that I ordered two for my elderly mother; she used old Tupperware dishes to cook her veg and frequently burnt herself on overflowing water whilst lifting them out of the microwave. These dishes only need a couple of inches of water and so are much more efficient- and safer for my mum!
