Having enjoyed other Sistema products, I had high hopes for this one. Which were not completely met.First off, it holds about a third of the indicated volume. Any time it gets even a little nearer the halfway mark, there will be spatter up the sides.Secondly, this only suits quite thick porridge. If you don't have it forming a slight paste when stirred, it will shoot out of the steam vent after 30 seconds. Every time. Even a really small amount, I've lost almost half.Third, you can't heat for more than a minute at a time in a 800w. My instructions said 2 minutes, stir, then 1 at that wattage. 1.5 minutes left a mess every time. How I use it:2 rounded tablespoons smooth oats, then 1tsp granulated sweetener, followed by 4 tablespoons whole milk (anything else is too thin). Stir til your arm hurts. Put lid on, pressing the clips firmly cos even a tiny gap can cause a mess. Put on high for a minute. Holding handle, make swirling motions to stir because taking lid off may result in lead plus it's really hot. Put on for another minute. Take lid off, stir thoroughly. If not cohesive enough, leave lid off if heating up to 40 more seconds (today needed 20 cos of old milk). It was worth persevering with this bowl because I make my mum porridge every morning and the only thing that didn't overflow really easy was a rectangular ready meal tub. As well as being about 20 times sturdier, the handle really helps here. The shape is also a lot better, and is comfortable to hold in one hand. Once you have the knack of using it, it's really good. Following the actual instructions gave me a couple of frustrating weeks, though, hence the star loss. There is also no mention of the steam valve cover being removable; cleaning congealed glue out of it would have been a lot easier had I known

I got one of these after seeing one in the tea room at work and it seems like an excellent idea to me. A large bowl type thing with a securely sealable leak-proof lid so you can transport hot porridge or soup safely. OK so it's not perfectly leak proof and you won't be able to carry it full in your backpack without leakage, but for MOST pueposes it's quite adequate. The lid also has a pressure valve so you can micro-nuke your brekky with the lid on, which saves on splashes and overflows and speeds up the cooking process. The bowl is quite big enough for a large portion of porridge or a can/carton of soup. The stickers come off easily without leaving a residue. My only complaint is that I'd like a choice of colours.Perfect for my hot breakfast at work.I notice that some reviewers are having problems where the porridge boils up and through the vent hole. This has also happened to me, mainly when I try and cook a larger portion. For small portions it's not a problem. Now, I nuke the porridge for about 2m on a medium power, stopping to stir a couple of times. I then let the porridge sit, cooking in its own heat for a couple of minutes more. The results seem OK to me. Another tip is to use porridge sachets which I include lecithin in the ingredients. This helps to stop the porridge boiling over.

lets face it, real porridge is a nightmare in a microwave. These pots are OK but it will spurt through the spout at the top and the porridge isn't creamy and cooked through enough for me. Want a fool proof method? If your into your porridge as much as me here's how you do it. Buy one of these per person http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00005QFUD?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 Use 2/3rd cup of oats and one cup of milk per person (per pot). Then place inside your cold oven just before going to bed, set the oven to come on and cook the porridge at about 100/110 degrees C for one and a quarter hours. My oven is easy to set as you can make it end cooking at the time you get up and it starts automatically.Hey presto, the porridge is smooth and velvety having sat 'steeping' in the milk all night and its cooked to perfection. The milk has never soured on me and I've always had great results. Simple. This is the way people with AGA's have slow cooked porridge, its put in the low/cool oven of the AGA and sits there all night, because the oat is properly opened and cooked through, you get the full slow release of the carbs, keeping you going for hours.

Great for Porridge and soups. Fantastic bowl that is just the right size for my portion of porridge, or a standard size (400g) soup can. Some reviewers complained that the porridge oozed from the vent. Of course it will if you overheat the contents! What did they expect? Doh!No such problem if you use this product sensibly: I heated the porridge in 1 minute increments for my first batch, to see how cooking progressed. (It helps to stir the contents at least once to distribute the heat evenly.) Naturally it depends on the amount and type of porridge used, the amount and type of liquid used and any other ingredients etc.and of course the power of the particular microwave. All common sense.Anyway, after the first couple of trials, I found just the right cooking time and stirring intervals to create my perfect bowl of porridge. And it works consistently every time. The handle remains nice and cool too, so the bowl is easy to hold if required. Its very easy to clean too, unlike some saucepans and ceramic bowls.I'm well pleased with mine, so I bought one for my wife too, and another in case I need a quick bowl of soup at work.

I usually make the two minute "Oatso Simple" porridge, and have usually found it a bit of a nuisance once the porridge is done, because I've often had to allow extra time, and the bowl has been too hot to take out of the microwave and then dish up the porridge into another bowl. I purchased this breakfast bowl because it is perfect due to the handle, and I only ever cook one portion anyway. I measured the oats and the milk according to what it said on the packet and stirred them together, and then I snapped the lid on and opened the vent, and microwaved them for 2 minutes. I allowed it to stand for just over a minute for the cooking process to finish, and when I opened the lid I was delighted to find that the porridge was exactly how I like it, without me having to do any extra stirring or adding extra cooking time - and without any hint of spillage. Not only that, but due to the handle I was able to easily take it out of the microwave and eat it straight from the bowl, thus saving on washing up!! I think it's a great product if you adapt the way you use it to suit your individual needs.

Overall, very robust and has not warped at all, after multiple microwavings. The steam outlet in the lid is difficult to wash out well (if not using a dishwasher) if you don't rinse it immediately to flush out any food. This very good bowl would have had five stars if the thin rim (pedestal) on the base had a larger diameter (i.e. was nearer the circumference) so as to make it that bit more stable. It is used by someone with the use of only one hand so, I was looking for a bowl that was as sturdy as possible but, this is pretty balanced despite the rim quibble and is otherwise excellent. One or two of the red fasteners have come off occasionally when washing but are well-made and easy for (two-handed)reassembly. Plastic handle robust and not at all hot after microwaving. Open/close steam outlet sturdy. (I'd be happy to turn it upside-down when full.) (Reviewed after several months' daily use.)

This product is very good, however, I do prefer the Sistema Microwave Soup Mug (see my review for that). Due to the shape of this bowl, it has a tendency to end up sideways in my handbag, and it does leak a bit then (I suspect from the vent). The Sistema Microwave Soup Mug might be smaller in ml, but I don't eat more than 2 cups of food anyway (I have a cup measure), so this bowl is actually too big.Having said that, this is a very good product, and I can still recommend it highly. If you are carrying it in a backpack or any bag with more space, you won't have the problem with it being turned on it's side, so then it won't leak. The handle stays cool enough to touch after microwaving, and because of the vent, I don't even bother stirring the food during microwaving, I just swirl it around a few times when I'm done while the lid is still on. 3 minutes in the microwave = perfect food!

So far I have not actually tried using this to cook porridge in the microwave, due to cowardice (although I understand you need to cut the power to half or less for good results). However, I have found it good for heating up leftovers for lunch at work, mostly pasta and sauce, curry and rice and similar. The vent on the top is good for heating up, letting out some steam, but as it can't be locked closed I wouldn't transport anything very liquid like soup in it (although I would use it happily for heating up a tinned soup or similar). The big advantage of this product for me is the handle - which makes it easier both to take out of the microwave and also when eating as I tend to not be at atable to eat.I am slightly regretting settling for bright Barbie pink though - I feel like I should decorate with stickers to complete the effect.

Weirdly these things seem to be a bit of a 'thing.' And as such the price is fairly steep for what is essentially a small amount of plastic. However, to counter that I have to say that these are well made and work very well indeed.I use mine for lunch. I do so in order to avoid eating rubbish which, is pretty easy to do where I work overseas. Instead I make a whole load of frozen soups from actual real things like vegetables....and then take one to work each day.I simply defrost in this bowl and then heat up. Simples. The design keeps the soup inside as long as I'm not chucking it around and it's perfect for microwave use.Easy to clean and easy to store. So, it might be a bit expensive for what it is,but it's well made and so far mine has lasted me over a year of regular use and still cleans up perfectly.

OMG,! This little bowl is amazing. I gave up having porridge, as being disabled, porridge was getting burnt or boiling over.So a measure of oats and a mug of milk, and sugar to taste. 15 minutes on 80 % power, stir and add more milk if needed,50% power 15 minutes,,leave to stand , then remove lid , and enjoy the BEST EVER porridge! As I am 75% bed bound and reliant on good friends and family to feed me, it was becoming obvious pretty quickly that theMicrowave was going to be used producing hot food in the minimum time available. So I have invested in purchasing Sistema Microwave in red, so people can use the correct dish to cook in the microwave and store in the fridge afterwards.I throughly believe Sistema has more use in the kitchen than a Lock and a Lock.Looking forward to my other Sistema arriving.

Every now and then the milk in a regular bowl gets a bit giddy and bubbles over. It's always a double nightmare as you now have to clean the microwave when you have the least time to do so, otherwise face rock hard set porridge later in the day, and as a reward for said thankless task you now have half a bowl of lukewarm porridge in a bowl with the sides and base coated in the stuff..... Triffic start to the day ! Now you can kiss good bye to that scenario with this bowl and lid combo. It's deep enough for that not to be a real issue but if it does get lively during the cook the lid and vent is there to keep you safe. Good for soup, stew, curry and rice type dished too...Highly recommend you have this in your life .

Cooking porridge in the microwave used to be a veritable nightmare. No matter how large the bowl or the microwave settings, I'd end up with porridge splattered all over the microwave oven. The Sistema Porridge Bowl made cooking porridge a doddle. No more splatters, no more burnt fingers, no more scrubbing bowls. The size of the bowl is just right and the handle is great to extract the hot bowl from the microwave. It is also very easy to clean - the porridge doesn't seem to stick to the bowl at all. The porridge turns out perfect every time. The bowl includes instructions which you'll need to follow carefully to ensure good results. However,I managed to cook slightly larger amounts of porridge without any mishap.

I bought this for my husband to make porridge in. I won’t deny, it fulfils this role adequately, it’s what happens in the process that’s the issue. Porridge + milk in bowl, microwave two minutes. This has always been the method. Try that with this (vent open) and what follows can only be described as “porridge Vesuvius”. I don’t know what my husband did to so anger the porridge gods but it was spraying out of the top vent and turning the inside of my microwave into something that resembled the proverbial plasterers radio. An industrial level kitchen cleaning later, half a bowl of congealed porridge left. My advice - don’t put the lid on when microwaving and stop ‘n’ stir after a minute.
