For years, I possessed an 'ordinary' basin with the ubiquitous extraneous curves and rims that were the 'normal' of the plastic basin population. Over the years of using it, I became over-familiar with these vestigial wrought-plastic features - particularly because they were the sites of increasing cracks and breaks (the basin itself remained intact and functional). But, even pristine, it was never going to pass itself off as a beauty. And though latterly, it pained me to notice it, moreso to tether myself to it in order to do the washing, I took a Calvinist view on my basin-discontent, and did not consider the arrangement anything other than 'normal' of everyday mundanes. And in such heartless a fashion,I refused to permit myself to look at another basin, assuring myself that all basins were the same. Unable to imagine any other. Or, that hand washing might ever stray into regions of the palatable. And then,Until, accidentally, I chanced upon this little number whilst looking for an item that I clean forgot about when my eyes fell upon it and, my gaze! This JosephJoseph Wash&Drain Basin lit up imagination and, struck avarice. I resisted almost 7 days wherein, the dreary estimation of my own ordinary basin grew into firm discontent, and the demand for something. . . nice, became more urgent.I would like to assure anyone who sticks around this long, that my eyes were not bigger than my enjoyment; that anticipation was _not_ revealed the chief delight upon my unwrapping my newest folly.I love it - I mean, in as much as one can really 'love' spare, well-moulded pieces of plastic (it isn't really very healthy but): this basin is s-o cute; and it works. Or, strictly speaking, _I_ work, but Oh! The Shape of it. The Handles! The Sturdy Base. The Plug Hole!! - Oh! The very form of this basin veritably _called_ to me to come to it, to take it in my hands and swing it to the table top and take care of the . . . washing up. To "take care of the washing"?? Yes! I use it to hand wash delicate clothes, and really, there is an attention as well as a delicacy, and a pleasure in my 'doing' the washing now, that has quite replaced the erstwhile disinterest of the "might-as-well" daily rota-drag. A drag that impostered as the task itself.Basically, I really enjoy taking care of the washing since I started using my new basin. In Conclusion:This basin may well be The Form which other basins aspire to embody (embasin?). I exaggerate perhaps, since this has put a spin on humdrum objects of household-duties and how, some loving attention in the crafting of a well-conceived design, might positively demand my co-operation to elevate other daily household duties into living rather beautifully.Well may a disinterested laundress blame her basin when, washing could be like _This_.

This is a very smart and useful piece of kitchenware. I was first attracted to this item as part of an Amazon Deal, and I'm glad because I hadn't thought about getting something like this for our kitchen until I saw how it worked. We operate a kitchen where >70% of our washing is done by dishwasher, but the pre-washing and rinsing off is done in the sink. So this bowl has become a very useful part of the kitchen now. Our sink is one that doesn't have any special sink plugs, and as such we were getting food trapped in the plug hole or clogging up the pipes below. This bowl has made life in the kitchen so much easier. We normally leave the "Plug" in the open position or to one side; this means that we no longer have to swing the tap out to just run some water; previously we would have had to empty the bowl out frequently due to this. And now when using it to pre-wash or rinse, the bit get captured by the "plug" and are easily disposed of.Pro's:- Looks smart!- Raised up, so bottom won't get completely mucky / greasy over time, has 4 "feet"- Plug "locks" firmly in place when in closed position- Handles are a nice addition to take the bowl somewhere to clean something around the house.- The seal is good, doesn't leak, feels quality when sealed.- I like the contrast in colour between the plug and bowl. Nothing special but there's a subtleness to it, an inverse to a black plug in a metal sink.Con's:- No notch / lock on the open position, means sometimes the flow of water can turn it half closed and reduce flow of water out- Could have done with rubberised feet; I've DIY this quite easily, to help this stop sliding, especially when locking / unlocking the plug in the closed position the bowl can rotate making it a 2 hand job otherwise for an empty bowl.

So pleased with this washing up bowl; I read numerous reviews pre-purchase and, like other satisfied reviewers, I must sing this innovative bowl's praises! The dimensions perfectly fit my modern shallow SS sink which fits flush to the worktop; by that I mean that the square shape accommodates a good size dinner plate without resting at an angle as with my previous rectangular bowls. Being square it allows space to tip away water/drain vegetable pans into the sink without having to remove the bowl - although I have a 1.5 sink facility it doesn't always suit me to use the .5 part to empty messy pan/teapot residue. It stands taller than the surrounding sink & drainer surface - which suits me,as I now have enough depth of water to reduce the previous problem I had with regular spillages onto the surrounding worktop. The bowl surface is strong and smooth and wipes clean like a dream - I purchased the white with lime green drain. Having a husband who loves cooking curries and pasta but then leaves the pans/dishes in the washing up water for me to eventually deal with (Grrr!) I was constantly facing a greasy 'orange' scum line around bowls. What a joy to be able to quickly open the drain, fasten and refill with clean soapy water and not to have to get out a cream cleaner to clean the bowl. It's not a cheap item to purchase - although I was delighted with Amazon's really competitive price (being £8 cheaper than a well-known high street department store) - but it's well worth paying for the quality and good design of this product.

Amazing how you use ordinary household products like a plastic injection-moulded washing up bowl all your life, and then one day someone radically re-designs and revolutionises it.This plastic bowl is from an award-winning British company owned by twin brothers called Anthony and Richard Joseph.Positive design points:• The integrated screw-plug moulded in a contrasting colour means you don’t need to tip-up the bowl, or even lift or move it, to empty the water• The screw-plug fit is very secure and doesn’t leak; it’s big & chunky so almost impossible to lose or mislay• The integrated feet raise-up the bowl over the floor of the sink to assist water drainage• The bowl has integrated, fixed carrying handles• The bowl is steep-sided and tall so has a lot of capacity, and if used as a portable bucket doesn’t spill water when carried• There is some quality in the plastic material which effectively means that grease & dirt don’t stick to it and accumulateThe not-so good:• Not much here except that the handles might have been moulded so they are less sharp on the fingers when you lift the bowl; this is more noticeable when the bowl contains water so becomes heavier• The bowl is fairly expensive, but you may feel the price difference is worth itFull marks to Joseph Joseph for this radical re-design of a basic commodity product, and for daring to think out-of-the-box. The colours are funky too: who would think of producing a washing-up bowl in charcoal grey? But hey, it looks great.

This goes on my list of one of the most helpful products ever made. This product has made our lives so much easier!First of all, we have a delicate sink that is very thin made of some sort of stone material. I have large and very heavy cast iron pots. Bad combination with the sink. This product has been a life changer because we no longer have to worry that the sink is going to break if someone bangs the heavy pots whilst washing up. This helpful bowl is sturdy enough to take the bangs. We also have a baby and we have glass bottles. We had already broken two bottles in our sink. Again, this bowl has rescued many bottles and other glass items from breaking. It is so helpful with a baby though because you can put the plug in and move the bowl elsewhere to let items soak whilst you use your sink for other washing up. What we have found useful is that you can then transfer the bowl back to the sink and with one turn of the plug, th water drains out. No more need to tip the bowl over like other traditional washing up bowls. It's literally like having another handy sink.Lastly, another feature we have found so useful is that the bowl sits high. It's not high enough to come above our sink. It's just high enough so that if you're short (I'm 5'1"), it makes it SO much easier to wash up because I'm not having to bend over in to the sink. I really love this product and Amazon sell it cheaper than anywhere else. A definite win!

This is a well designed product which seems such an obvious idea but I must confess I haven't seen another kitchen bowl with the 'built-in' drainage plug idea. It's also a very sensible size for most kitchen sink operations such as washing up... being 'squarish' in proportions and not too shallow it means that, when washing dinner plates etc., the bowl is large enough to accommodate the items conveniently and cleanly. The bowl has four small 'legs' formed from the plastic construction and these allow a little gap beneath the bowl when it's sitting in the sink. Therefore when you utilise the cleverly designed "bowl-plug" there's sufficient room for draining into the main part of the kitchen sink.I also like the simple twist action which basically opens the bowl's plug seal for draining (you can completely lift out the plug should you require). So far the item has been used for several weeks and it has been easy to keep clean, with no apparent staining of the bowl's surfaces as yet. This was a concern that I had but I am pleased with the performance after many days of usage. Also slightly unusual for a kitchen sink bowl are the two handles — these allow for easy lifting of the bowl, even with wet hands. This small feature should be more commonplace.Overall a very sensible and practical household item which I am very pleased I purchased.

So I want to start by saying that this is a great washing-up bowl. It has a square overall shape that allows it to fit neatly in my 1.5 bowl ceramic sink - unlike some other ones that are just a bit too wide or the handles flared out too far to allow them to sit in properly. The fact that it is raised up from the sink floor is good for avoiding a collection of detritus collecting under the bowl, and the twist release plug seems to function entirely as I expect. Overall it is a sturdy and well-made kitchen accessory that I have come to expect from the Joseph Joseph brand. The one thing that bugs me, is that the white and green version I have is not white. In reality it is that sort of off-white that you can buy the BMW Mini in - I think they call it Old English White, so it has a sort of creamy tone to it. It won't be of a concern to the vast majority of people, but if you've designed your kitchen to have some clean whites - perhaps the ceramic sink, splashbacks or worktop, then this sink just adds a bit of an unexpected tone to the mix - especially as we are generally leaving this bowl in the sink for practicality (and space) reasons. As I say, it's only a minor detail, but anyone OCD about their colour-matching might want to view this in person to make sure they are getting the colour they expect.

I've had the 'grey' bowl (which is more of a dark blue) for a couple of years, and I still think it's brilliant. The bowl is large enough and deep enough that I can fit anything in it - from large pasta bowl to oven shelves and baking trays. A huge part of the appeal is that with the built-in drain I no longer had to try to empty out a heavy bowl filled with water after washing up. I can open the drain cover and let the water out until I can lift the bowl and rinse it out. The sides and handles are both rigid, which helps the water to stay in the bowl when I'm moving it, rather than having the sides buckling and sploshing water all over me or the kitchen. There handles are roomy enough to comfortably grip with even large hands, and they handles are smooth enough that they don't dig into your hands when you pick the bowl up. Over time the bowl has acquired faint scratches, but nothing too major, and despite washing up lasagne dishes and curry sauce pans nothing has managed to stain the inside of the bowl or the drain cover. My one gripe would be that small bits (soggy crumbs etc.) swirl down the drain with the water, and only really large bits get caught in the top of the cover. I now use a stainless steel sink strainer over the plughole in the sink which captures everything that escapes the bowl.

Now this is something I really am pleased I bought, I thought I was a bit mad myself spending so much on a washing up bowl. Who on earth spends over £20 on a bowl, you can get one in all leading supermarkets for less than a fiver. Sadly I have several what I call 'old bowls' in my shed now for car washing and dog accidents. I had a quite good one until the sink was changed and it no longer fitted, since then several that were too wide, too tall, one of them induced the water to fall over my cupboards and I could see that was going to end in new cupboard doors. I think spending £20 plus on a correct fitting bowl has saved me much more in new cupboard doors. There are other things I should mention, the ability to drain the water out is great, saves lifting the bowl and you might think that is lazy, but when you have bad back discs it is actually very relevant. Also catches the waste, so you can peal your tatty's and drain off the water. Small things will go through the plug it is not a filter, rice and some smaller bits still get stuck in the plug, plus if your a bit impatient like my husband it takes a little longer to drain off. But do I care, no I have a nice well fitting bowl and I have saved my cupboards from ruin, Yay!

It’s small touches like handles that can really make a difference to making mundane tasks easier. Not many pool like washing dishes, I don’t but this basin has some simple touches that makes the job easier . The handles mean I can lift the basin around, pretty handy when I have to fill a kettle etc up but the basin is full of dishes . I have a compact kitchen with not a lot of spare room , this basin works well for me. It doesn’t take a lot of dishes, although it’s deep it is compact square size. So I would say only suited to a household of about 2. It takes plate size fine but easily gets full with cups .The drainer at the bottom sometime a hit or miss, which is funny as that’s why I mainly bought it .!As sometimes if it’s not shut properly and I move it , the water leaks out , but it’s handy if you don’t overfill the basin like me !The sturdy design means it’s easy to lift an although I have the cream one it’s easy to keep clean . Just keep on top on cleaning it as the bottom can easily get covered in dregs .Overall very fumctional , looks nice and would recommend if you like nice deigns or need extra space .

This is my second purchase of this washing up bowl after 3 years of usage of my last white model. I love almost everything about it: the shape fits my butler sink perfectly; the integrated drainage plug offers fabulous option to drain water without having to tip over the whole bowl; the material is sturdy and did not discolour and it is easy to clean. The old bowl is still in use as a gardening bowl with plenty of life in it as a container However, the reason why I now had to get a new one is the drainage plug started to leak badly - somehow the mechanism to seal the water flow no longer worked. I bought this new green bowl hoping that some improvement might have been made in the design, but cannot spot a change in the turning mechanism of the drainage plug and it will be interesting to see how long this one will work effectively? It is such a shame as the bowl itself does not deteriorate at all - but once the water starts leaking out it cannot be used as a washing up bowl any longer. Joseph Joseph might want to/ and should think about developing a more sustainable design for the drainage plug.

No more having to soak dishes, then take them out or tip an awkward basin to the side to get cold or dirty water out. Just reach under, turn the stopper/plug and the water drains away. It is raised, so when the water is draining away, it goes straight down the plug hole and doesn't just lie around the sides of the basin. The handles are excellant too, and whilst filled with dishes and water, I can lift the basin out without it spilling the water everywhere, so as to get a drink of water. My Husband is yet to figure this out for himself and continues to moan about the basin being in the way of the tap, I'll have my fun and see how long it takes him to work it out for himself. It's sturdy and not made of cheap plastic so it'll last, hopefully I can pass it down through the generations as an heirloom ;) I found this item so good, my neighbour and Daughter have since purchased one for themselves. They love them too. Great invention, one of those ''Why didn't I think of that'' now couldn't do without gadgets. BTW, I now no longer use my dishwasher as I now enjoy doing dishes.

I'm very happy with this! As with all J&J products, it is thoughtfully-designed.The weight of the plastic is substantial and not flimsy like the average bowl. I was cautious about the smallish size, but it easily takes my big dinner plates and one learns to do dishes in small batches rather than everything at once! The big advantage to me of its square shape is that it leaves plenty of space to the side of a full-size sink to be able to rinse items straight into the sink. This is far better than having a separate drainer half-sink and second set of waste pipes that get gungy. Best of all is the drain-plug in the bottom of the J&J,so dishwater can be disposed of without having to upend a bowl and inevitably splash water everywhere! The only failing which might be more related to my choice of a deep grey J&J bowl is that the feet mark my new expensive composite sink. I've bonded bits of clear vinyl tubing around the edges to cure this. Just one step away from perfection, in my view!

This is great. I don't have a dishwasher and I only have one sink so there's nowhere to rinse my washing up as I go along. What I needed was a washing up bowl with feet so that the bottom of the bowl doesn't get greasy , proper handles so that I can lift the bowl easily and move it even when full and it's own plug. Hurrah, this washing up bowl meets all my needs making it very versatile. It also seems robust. I have had mine for at least 6 months and use it every day. It is still perfect. It is square so fits my sink well too. I know it seems sad to be excited about a washing up bowl but this is the best I have ever had and after more years than I care to think about washing dishes in then I feel confident in recommending this everyday item to everyone. The only downside is that there are only a few colour choices. I chose the bright green which has now spread to my buying a green kettle and a green cutlery strainer..perhaps I will paint the room next . Enjoy.

I put this on my Christmas wish list for my daughter to chose from. She is used to me having odd things on my wish list. I cannot believe how happy a washing up bowl has made me. There are washing up bowls and then there is this one. I can carry it with a little water in it so I can watch TV from the island whilst peeling potatoes. Put it back in the sink, then let the water out and the peelings go straight down the garbage disposer. I can fill it with warm water to wash down the worktops and all the little bits go down it's drain (any bits too big don't so they can be retrieved easily). It is big enough to soak most things in before going in the dishwasher and the water doesn't go cold quickly because it is on little legs. The plug removes completely and easily for rinsing that area out. I know I am one sad woman, but this has made me happy. I love good functional design.Update. This is now nearly four years old. I am still delighted and it still looks new.
