If you're a long time fan of Lagavulin 16, beware, the 8yr old is a different whisky entirely! In contrast to the 16 I once had a young Lagavulin described to me as "raw meat" compared to "leather jacket", and on tasting it, I don't think that's far off the mark.Expect bite, but not raw alcohol. Where the 16 is balanced and soft on delivery, this gives a bigger phenol hit up front followed by a lingering salty butter smoke taste. This whisky to me is very similar to Coal Ila 12, so if you're a fan of that, you won't be disappointed here. I generally prefer younger Islay whiskies as the peat is at it's most powerful, and this is no exception. For that reason, I think the 8 is better than the 16,but many would not agree. Is this worth £10 more than the 16 though? Frankly the limited production of the 8 (and associated costs) probably doesn't outweigh the cost of the extra 8 years of storage... it's hard not to feel a bit cheated there, but the whisky still speaks for itself if price is not your main concern. I cannot drop a star as I do love this whisky, but it's absolutely worth considering picking up a bottle of Coal Ila 12 or Ardbeg 10 instead.

I was first introduced to this on holiday in Scotland in 1977. I went in for a little whisky tasting one evening at a local pub near the beach on the Mull of Kintyre, and was taken through about a dozen of the local offerings. This one has been my favourite ever since, with a smokey, peaty flavour and a lovely warm and smooth after taste. It is a single malt, and has been produced on the island of Islay since 1816.The 16 year old (this one) is a lot smoother than the 12 year old, so I would always advise you to check the age. Many of my friends like it too, but a few don't, so I would advise you to find a well stocked pub and give it a try before buying. Or try a miniature.

Lagavulin needs no restimony. I must however heap praise for the after sales service. Somehow a mix up is happening with hiw Amazon is displaying costs resulting in additional costs I wasn't expecting. Rather tgan arguing and simply dismisding my complaint it was rigorously investigated resulting in a rebate for my unexpected additional cost.I cannot praise the quality and more importantly good natured tone of the after sales.they will always be my first port of call for future purchases of Good Malt whisky

Bought on a complete whim. I'm a very light and delicate or heavy and peaty kind of guy. My preferred drams are all Islay - Port Charlotte 10, Caol Ila 12, Lagavulin 16 and Laphroaig QC.If you've already tried Lagavulin 16 and found its full on, this is a slightly lighter and smoother dram regardless if you add water or prefer neat. (I always try neat before adding water)This is my new special occasions dram for sure and given the option between the 8 and 16.. I'd go 8.

Obviously this is going to be good given it is made by Islay based legends Lagavulin. Whilst it is only half the age of the standard bottling the flavour profile is unmistakably Lagavulin (think smoked bacon wrapped in seaweed) albeit a little lighter with a slightly shorter finish. Hugely enjoyable and now I hear this Limited bottling is now a part of the regular line up.

It’s a very nice whisky. I got it as I had read a good review in a whisky book. I have had the 16 yo a number of times and I probably prefer the 16 to the 8 but it is an interesting whisky with lots of lively flavours. Well worth trying as a comparison.

I'll be honest, it does state 20cl in the title. The picture though is misleading as it shows a full price bottle. Whisky is one of the best from the island in my opinion but I agree with other reviews, make sure you read it properly before you buy!

I bought this whisky after reading all the good reviews I normally only drink Oban whisky ? but this Lagavulin 16 Year Old Single malt was a very nice change has a lovely flavour not too strong but is rich in flavour and taste well worth a try

Bought as a Christmas gift for my BF, and he loves it. Being an 8 year old, it is not as peaty/smoky as other whiskys, which he likes. That said, this is a cask strength Whisky, so it is still strong on the alcohol.

Really nice. I think I prefer lagavulin16 but I'm no conasire. I did a blind fold test and failed! To my uneducated pallet they are pretty similar but this one cost me more.I really enjoyed it though.

If you like Islays you will no doubt love this... I however blind tasted this alongside a Caol Ila 12 and found that to be more full bodied and sweeter than the Laga 8 nevertheless worth a try.

It obviously costs more than most I drink as I mainly buy 12 year olds, but its worth it. It tastes great and as with many whiskys it only gets nicer to drink as the night goes on. Top stuff!

Looks like a big bottle on the picture but is, in fact, a little bottle. Don't be fooled! It turns out to be quite a pricey drink too. Just like that Father Ted episode with the cows.

Nothing wrong with this product, cute small bottle and arrived promptly & as advertised. Not quite a smokey enough flavour for me but that's my personal preference.
