While I'm sure there are better whiskies in the world, my favourite is Laphroaig Quarter Cask. It's full of flavour and smooth, but you can still feel the energy and bite of the cask strength bottling if you drink it neat as I do.Lore is all that and more, and feels like a premium version of the QC. The same salty peat smoke and buttery sweetness with a hint of TCP, but smoother and with even more depth and complexity. The nose is much the same and less raw alcohol smell than the QC, and the finish equally long (you'll taste this hours later if you don't cleanse your palette). Is this twice as good as the QC? No. Is it worth double the price? Yes.

I have over 150 whiskies in my collection islays are my preference. This is a truly special whisky. No harshness but smooth and peaty - an incredible feat. It is up the with the caol ila 18/ distillers edition and the lagavulin 16. Well well worth £65-70. I’ve tried well aged whiskies and this is better - I’m guessing the aged whiskies they blend for this are 16/18/21 because I have the 10 and other laphroig blends and this is head and shoulders above.I’ve read reviews that compare it to - imo - inferior whiskies and I’m shocked. If you are unsure take the plunge - I’m rationing this and contemplating getting more.

Whilst on a recent scottish climbing trip, I was conversing with a local hotelier who kept a very decent stock of Malts ....I had an urge to try the Caol Ila Moch but he was out so I had a punt on this instead... A taste explosion straight away and very happy.. I bought this on my return home and measured against a Laproaig Triple Wood I already had opened and it just simply could not compete with the Lore..I have come to regard the Lore as an absolute triumph and is currently my favourite of all the isalys... Beats Lagavulin in my book..

I found it a great whisky, for me it took the first glass to acclimatise to the smokiness and then the second glass was just amazing, very fruity and saltyI’m happy to have tried this and will no doubt finish the bottle but the next time I want to spend £60 on laphroaig whisky I’ll probably buy the 10 and the quarter cask. The quarter cask has all the punch of Lore but is missing the fruitiness and the 10 has the saltiness but slightly lacks the punch - but I’d be happy with either as much as Lore for half its price

It could be that "Lore" might be discontinued at some time in the future (who knows?) so I purchased this bottle to keep unopened as a potential small time investment. I've sampled "Lore" in the past and I understand how popular this Laphroaig expression is among smokey whisky lovers. As it's a big favourite of mine I have star rated purely on the basis of past tastings. If it appears that "Lore" is not going to be discontinued I'll be delighted to remove the stopper from the bottle and enjoy the contents!

I would only buy this for £50-£60 or less of course, it has hintings of different casks and barrels, some wine perhaps, sherry certainly. And it still has the smoke Laphroaig is famous for, but the reason I like this when I'm not so partial to Laphroaig 10, is because it doesn't taste like ash. There's real flavour and complexity here and I hope the price keeps falling so everyone can experience this masterpiece.

Absolutely astounding as soon as it’s poured from the bottle. A beautiful bronze copper colour. Smooth and profoundly smoky, peaty, medicinal, coastal aromas and tastes that envelope the senses and leave an indelible memory. Not for the uninitiated I should say. But if you’re working your way up the Islay ladder and have reached the Lagavulin 16 year old and want to go further, then this is for you. Stunning.

Bang on with this one, proving there doesn't need to be an associated age for a damn good whiskey. The smoke is beautiful, I describe it as an ashey smoke but not too in your face. Definitely creaminess pulls through with a splash of water.Touch expensive but a damn good one to have.

This is so powerful on the nose but so drinkable! I have a bit of a hard time with the 10 year old and quarter cask as it just seems so rough and raw but this is so much more rich and refined but still distinctly a laphroaig. If you are a Lagavulin 16 fan this is a whisky for you.

Absolutely excellent aroma and surprisingly smooth taste from Laphroaig. It's definitely one I'll buy more of and retain at least one for as long as possible for special occasions as it's very pleasant and special feeling even though it's 'only' a non age statement blend.

If you like your single malts peaty, smoky and complex then this is definitely for you. A prime example of the excellent products coming from the Laphroaig distillery. A cut above. If you've only tasted the 10 year or select examples, prepare to be delighted.

being a fan of the Laphroaig 10 yr old, i decided to try the Select and the LORE, by far thie LORE has a great depth to the smokeyness and is also very smooth. other than price im finding hard to justify as to why i would buy the Laphroaig Select again.

This is a delicious whisky. It’s completely different from the other Laphroaigs. Not one that hits you hard like the others, but it’s got a lovely flavour. The Sherry casks give it some really good sweetness that you wouldn’t expect from a Laphroaig.

Bought for DH who loves Laphroaig. Said this was so smooth he could drink it without water. It had an 'evaporation' problem, however, so did not last him long ;). He can wait for Christmas for another.

Very, very rich - the quarter cask tastes somewhat paltry by comparison (I still enjoy it)! Not quite sure it's worth its full price, but worth getting on offer.
