Originally I bought the ''New York Lock'' in combination with the 14mm chain ( Fahgetaboutit combo). If you see the picture you can see exactly the same colour scheme and writing on the lock supplied with the chain. Since the whole set is called ''Fahgetaboutit'' (suggesting the top of the line of Kryptonite like the 18mm mini D-Lock) and the Kryptonite Security Ladder 9/10 you are led to believe that the lock supplied in the set in fact is this Lock here , the ''New York LIBERTY''- Lock. Then, after receiving the set and looking at things I had to find that the Lock supplied ''only'' was an ''Evolution Series 4'' with the colours of the Liberty version ( which still is a sturdy little lock, but nowhere near the real thing). Since Kryptonite themselves rate their Evolution 4 Series as 8/10 the ''Fahgetaboutit'' Combo can only be 8/10, and not 9/10 - even if the chain is a clear 10!. So that to the mix-up Kryptonite have created with their own product. Since I knew the ''real'' New York Liberty'' Disc I wanted that and therefore bought this in addition to the combo I bought earlier. The differences from the New York Liberty Disc Lock to the New York Disc Lock (ID Evolution Series 4) of the Fahgetaboutit combo is quite massive. The Liberty has a double Crossbar construction, the Evolution 4 not. The Evolution 4 has an oval body with one thick layer of steel to supposedly be stronger than the round body of the Liberty version. Can be, must not. Insides of both locks (holder of the lock) are plastic. a lot of plastic in the Evolution 4, a lot less in the New York. In fact, thanks to the double crossbar construction there is very little space inside the Liberty disc compared to the Evolution 4 to actually accommodate a plastic holder. This is only then important, if someone would want to use a blowtorch or chemicals to melt the inside to allow movement to the steel bars holding the shackle and therefore giving the shackle free in locked position. It seems that this is quite easily possible with the Evolution 4 Series since there is enough space to allow the metal bars to move around once the plastic holder has been destroyed ( See also YouTube- Lockpicking Lawyer). A Blowtorch does the job, but there are faster techniques to cause that situation.Inside this New York Liberty Disc the diameter of the plastic holder is pretty much half that of the Series 4. Very small. The metal bars holding the shackle are bigger to. Even if you apply heat it will take a lot more thanks to the two crossbar tubes inside each other and then if the plastic melts, there is not enough space inside the inner tube to actually release the bars holding the shackle from their original position, they probably will end up blocking the shackle in a different position but still holding it.That is why the Liberty disc has the higher rating . I would use the Liberty Disc for over night parking, but the Evolution Series 4 dressed up to look like the Liberty Disc is not good enough for that, but great for securing your bike during the day in a lower risk area. But: Even if you use the New York Liberty disc I do recommend to use a minium of 1 more D-lock or even better 2 different additional locks. Preferably from different makers so even lock picking get's to be a nightmare. Kryptonite New York Liberty Disc Lock I recommend, together with a Kryptonite 18mm ''Fahgetaboutit'' D-Lock and perhaps an Abus 540 or even n Abus a Granit 59 makes a pretty ''untouchable'' combo. New York Liberty Disc Lock highly recommended.

My choice was between this Kryptonite New York Liberty (14mm shackle) and the similarly priced Kryptonite FAHGETTABOUDIT (18mm shackle). I've seen YouTube videos, both get easily cut open with a grinder, or picked. I suppose in real life the average thief isn't likely to go around with large tools or possess professional picking skills. However my fear is a bolt cutter or even a cheap manifold spreader. The FAHGETTABOUDIT apparently resists to hydraulic cutters (YouTube), I am not so sure about the smaller 14mm New York. So I guess I should have bought the FAHGETTABOUDIT (but I thought 18mm wouldn't go easily through my rear disc, plus it's long/big and heavy). It's also very wide (for a disc lock)so easier to cut with a grinder/bolt cutter (see photo). To conclude I would suggest to do your research thoroughly because to me this lock is ok for very low crime areas only. Personally I would have preferred less accessories (no need for the LED light, or the carrying pouch (?).. the disc lock reminder is also useless to me since I also secure my helmet to the lock - see photo) and a thicker 18mm shackle instead.

I think this is a very secure lock and I'm very happy with it. Sure, anything can be broken into with enough time, patience, equipment and expertise but in reality, the huge majority of thefts are of relatively lightly protected bikes. I take the same view with locks that I take of a bear coming into the campsite. I don't have to be the fastest runner on the site, I just need to be able to outrun one other camper and the bear will feast on him or her. In other words, one of these locks is highly likely to make your bike a tougher target than another one nearby where someone has been less careful. So you may not have the ultimate protection, whatvever that is, but it will be a lot better than many.I've seen many a heavy lock attacked to a mild steel post and an angle grinder will go through the post like butter, they can then deal with the lock later. This is more than good enough for most of us.

I have 3 of these locks that I use in the back of my truck and in conjunction with a bike rack on the rear of my vehicle. They work great and seem as strong as any I've seen. One of them got some road grime in it on an extended trip and got sticky and difficult to open. Nothing a bit of lubrication didn't easily solve though. These locks are nice and compact and relatively light weight. The main issue I have with them is that the chain I use along with them is soooo heavy and cumbersome! But that is my choice and nothing to do with the locks themselves.

If you're locking up a motorcycle of any value and want a good disc lock then do yourself a favour. Don't buy the cheap chinese ones thinking you've got yourself a good deal as these can be opened in seconds. Invest in a top notch FAHGETTABOUDIT disc lock. For additional security I also have the 10/10 max security U lock (their chain is also good for anchoring). Pay for the quality and the peace of mind that in most daily situations your bike will now be very very safe.

Had my motorcycle stolen out of my garage and then decided to invest in greater security. I live downtown in a metropolitan area. Haven't had any problems since using this guy, even when parking on the street- I think the bright yellow color and solid look of construction is enough of a deterrent in itself. I will continue to use it. It comes with 3 keys, one with a led light on it.

Very beefy lock, just the look should detour villains. Lock key mechanism works very smoothly, only downside is you are going to have to carry this large lock with you when you go somewhere, (Clip on lock pouch broke the first time I compressed it. However I bought it for the lock, not the pouch.) Overall, I definitely would buy this lock again.

Kryptonite locks are good, there is no doubting that. These ones can't be opened with a Bic pen either! I use this on a BMW GS, but I think that it will double up as a lock for my pushbike when I team it up with one of the Kryptonite Kryptoflex wire ropes.I also have the larger version of this, which always gets good reviews for its security.

Much more expensive than my previous one that jammed after two months, but this one has now done six months in some horrible weather. It does need some oil to stave off the rust but it's doing a great job for me. Well worth spending more money for a better product.

Very easy to pop on and off my ninja 300. Kinda heavy to carry, but it's supposed to be heavy right? Smooth mechanism, well built, and perfect size for any motorcycle with easily accesible rotors. Reminder cable is great; effective, small, and lightweight.

It would take some time to get through this, hopefully making thiefs look elsewhere for there target. It's big enough for decent protection, small enough to stick in your pocket, although it weighs quite a bit which is obviously a good thing.

It was very simple and easy to use and gives me a peace of mind knowing it'll secure my motorcycle. I also like the line that goes on your handlebar to let you know the lock is still on. That is great for someone like me who will forget!

I plan on using this to secure my Kayaks both when on the trailer and on the shore. I also bought a 3/8" steel cable...I won't have to worry about losing my investment.Summer is just around the corner.

Surely a solid product. But sadly, did notfit on my disc brake nor my scooter wheel as showed on the instructions. Plan to return it in exchange of a New York Mini.

I've had no problem with the lock sticking. Nice strong rubber coating means no rattling on the bumps. I've left it all over Brooklyn, so far, she's still mine.
