Reading the reviews criticising the bracket I was in two minds about buying this lock. On the one hand were all the reviews saying this was one of the best locks on the market (if not THE best) and on the other were the people saying it had the worst bracket. It didn't help that you can't examine the bracket in a shop because it is completely hidden by the packaging. I eventually decided to buy the lock and if the bracket was as bad as people were saying attach it to the bike with bungee cords or something. As for the lock itself, I haven't taken an angle grinder to it so I have to take on trust that it is as good as the reviews say. All I can report is that it is pretty substantial and my bike hasn't been stolen yet.Returning to the bracket,I was agreeably surprised that it was not as flimsy as some reviewers have suggested. Possibly it has been upgraded. I would hesitate to call it good but it appears at first sight to be adequate. That is more than can be said of the instructions. As has already been pointed out, these consist of a single piece of paper. The pictures are so small you can't tell what is being illustrated and the text seems to have been written by someone whose first language is not English, which is odd because Kryptonite is an American company. I can only marvel at the fact that someone with such an inability to communicate should get a job writing instruction leaflets. I have never before seen such a simple procedure described so incomprehensibly. Fortunately, it isn't rocket science and it fairly obvious how the bits fit together when you look at them. The instructions can therefore be safely consigned to the bin.The bracket consist of two blocks. The inner block attaches to the bicycle and the lock clips to the outer block. The two blocks are connected by a screw around which they rotate so the lock can be mounted in any orientation. The inner block is attached to the bike by a nylon strap, which is connected to a buckle-like plate. Between the strap and whichever part of the bike you are attaching it to there is a thin rubber shim to stop it sliding. The strap threads through a slot in the shim at each end but the rubber is so flimsy I doubt that will keep them together for long. I can only hope that friction alone will do the job.The strap is attached to the plate at one end, wraps round the bike and threads through a slot on the opposite side of the plate. The inner block is then stuffed over the top of the plate. The only thing holding the strap tight is the friction of the block being held over the plate. It seems secure enough for now but time will tell. The inner block is then placed in position and the screw passed through both blocks to a threaded hole in the plate. Only once the screw is in place is everything held in position. This means that if you want to adjust the bracket's position or orientation you have to take everything apart again. Without doing this there is no way to loosen the strap on the bike. This can be irritating if, like me, you need to experiment with different positions. On the bright side, you only have to install the bracket once.

SO, I rarely leave reviews for anything but:a) The Bike lock is good, solid, I did need to buy a different holder for it after seeing all the other notices on here, but I have been using it since Jan 2013 and the bike feels safe with it. Yes it's very heavey but of course it is. However, no-one to my knowledge has even tried to tamper with it while I have had it.b) MOST IMPORTANTLY For some strange reason, when I went to use the lock the other day to lock my bike up, the lock did not unlock, the key did not engage in the lock somehow so I could not separate the lock. Rendering it useless - luckily my bike wasn't locked to anything at the time! I pre sue this is a rare mechanical fault.I emailed Kryptonite customer services as it had been over a year since the purchase. I heard nothing back for 3 days and still haven't. THEN I called Tredz. I got a very friendly helpful person who said the lock is still covered by warranty and to send it back to them (they cover postage) and they will have it fixed or replaced. He was kind, helpful, courteous and the process seems very simple and straight forward. When trying to buy stuff on Amazon you can spend ages comparing items, postage and packing etc, but rarely do you get to consider follow up care and customer service. Thank god I bought from Tredz because now this £55 lock will be replaced with the least hassle and I'm pretty sure that that wouldn't be happening now if I had bought from many other sellers.I would suggest you go with these people and having looked on their actual company website (to find the contact details) I would consider buying more from them in the future and directly.Good customer service is important and in this case it is saving me money and hassle. All the best, fellow cyclists. And thank you TredzFelix

This has not been attacked, but appears to be really strong, well made and thought through. It replaces a more expensive Abbus Granit lock that after many years, the key got sticky and broke. This seems to me to be an upgrade in terms of material, build and quality, it has a small plastic sliding "gate"to keep dirt out of the keyhole (which was the led to the eventual demise of my Abbus). It comes with three keys (reassuring on such a tough lock), two of them are ultra small and lite in weight the third has a lED light built in that works well, although I do not use it as I like to keep things minimal and this key is a bit more bulky. Size wise, the lock is perfect, not too long or too narrow - it fits over the rim and tyre of a front wheel of a motorbike or would provide close protection for a bicycle frame against a railing - meaning lever style attacks would be difficult.I like the holder attachment, when used correctly, it works very well. I might buy a second lock for permanent placement and (the silver holder part on the U-lock can be removed which I also like). In a perfect world, I would love to be able to buy two locks with same key - so the extra colour option is helpful for identification if two are used.

The lock is great a touch heavy though. The mounting system is crap though i rode down some stairs and the strap that holds the lock on stretched or slipped so now it moves around all over the place. I must admit it was a rather long set of stairs and i didn't expect it to last. Its also almost imposible to mount anywhere but i think this is a general problem. I had to take my drink holder out to put it in the middle of the frame. I also bought one of the orange series 4 ones for my girlfriend. I think i like that one better as it is lighter, the key has an extra keyway(harder to pick) on it and the key itself is more streamlined so it fits better with my other keys and the lock is also a lot cheaper. The key mechanism is slightly harder to operate on the orange one though. On both of them you have to make sure the key is seated all the way down before you turn it. The orange one is also slightly longer which makes it easier to lock around the frame and back wheel. I also bought one of the orange mini series one with the cable and its pretty nasty. I would have returned it for the orange series 4 one but the return shipping price was half the cost of the lock. My advice get the krytonite evolution series 4.

I bought this and it's smaller brother with cable in July 2013 so now I think I can give an honest opinion of this product. I work on building sites, so I'm generally in the same place for several months if not longer, but there's no indoor parking, it's always been on the streets. Now I can't give any info on its strength as no one has tried to steal my bike, or maybe just the fact they are there has made people pick easier targets.this is a heavy lock and I can't be bothered taking it home so it's stayed outside for all this time (I cycle all year round). I WD40 it approx 2-3 times a year and this keeps the lock free and easy. The bike attachment for holding the lock is adequate but as I've said before carrying that thing back and forth ain't happening!!So in conclusion, with this lock, the other kryptonite with cable you should have no probs, but bear in mind my bike when new was worth about £750 new and I've never left it out overnight. If your bike is worth a couple of grand then I wouldn't leave it outside no matter what the lock!Hope this review helps and if you want to ask me a question and I can answer it then ask away!

I bought this lock because by bike was stolen and I didn't want the same thing to happen again to its replacement. The lock itself is fine, it's big enough to secure the frame and back wheel to a post, it's solid, the locking mechanism is easy to turn (unlike some locks that I have owned) and the rubber coating protects the frame. On the down side it rattles and it is very heavy. The bracket is pants. I read the poor reviews of the bracket and decided that the other users weren't fitting it correctly, I was wrong. Tighten it up as much as you can and it soon loosens off and swings out at the most inconvenient moments. It's frustrating because most bikes have various threaded holes in the frame to accommodate drinking bottle holders, couldn't they use these to make a really secure attachment. A lock of this weight really needs a land anchor from the QE2 to hold it properly. In conclusion I like the lock but have to carry it around in a shoulder bag instead of attaching it to the frame. Not how I was intending to use it but better than having another bike stolen.

I went to my local shop the other day and locked up my bike. As I did this a fellow cyclist was doing the same thing. We happened to be the only two people there. His bike clearly worth about 1K compared to my £650. Smugness fell across his face like warm chocolate rippling over a biscuit, but it didn't last long. He was slightly faster than i in getting out his bike lock, probably because mine weighed more. His, a reasonably decent blue Oxford D lock and a thin wire for his seat, a very standard lock setup for road cyclists. I pulled out my Kryptonite New York Standard. Weighing around 3KG it made a thud as i rested it on the cold metal of the bike stand. He glanced over, face still full of smug gitness.Smug gityness quickly turned to confusion, confusion then to horror as he realized. HIS bike would be the one to be stolen. HE was the easy target. HIS precious would be the one being used by smack heads to transport stolen goods to local pawn shops.I've never seen a man shop so fast in my life.Me 1 - Smug Gits 0Buy this lock.

What can I say about this lock? Well I still have a bike . . . . I now also have a hernia from carrying it in a rucksack. As previous reviewers have mentioned the bracket it is supplied with is about as useful as a chocolate teapot. However I knew this was the case before buying and I was prepared for carrying it the 8 miles to work and back each day. I knew it would be heavy but seriously? It also doubles up as a sweet kosh that you can use to bust the head of any would be scally caught in the act of attempted pilfering. (Obviously only if they are on your own property, If they are not still hit them but be prepared to drag them back until you are).I live in a nice area but there have been 5 bikes stolen in the last 2 months.Mine is the most expensive bike and has remained untouched. This lock is that good, Actually it's too good as the accusing looks I now receive would testify to, alas I do not care they should have spent the extra money and bought a decent lock. Don't make the same mistake as my neighbours.

I commute to work and as I cycle through London I often see other road users needing first aid which I am able to give so I like to have a lock with me so I can lock my bike up quickly and help out so I looked at this and though ‘perfect’ however This thing is so heavy I think it has its own gravitational pull! I cannot have this thing in my rucksack as I also need a spine in order to cycle. However good luck to the bodybuilder bike thief who tries to nick it! This thing is built to last and will defend your bike against pretty much anything short of a nuclear apocalypse it only gets 4* because I really wanted to take it with me in my rucksack but seriously after day two I could feel twingesin my back and as I am a carer for a loved one with a ruined back I know how important it is to look after your back. That said this lock is gooooood

A very high quality lock. Bought this for my new bike, and while quite expensive, it's very sturdy and heavy, plenty deterrent enough for most thieves. I use it with a Kryptonite Kryptoflex 7ft Cable Lock to make sure that other parts of the bike aren't vulnerable to theft. The provided bracket is simple but effective. It keeps the lock in place while I'm riding, and I'm glad that it does so because at 2kg, it's a heavy lock to carry in a bag. The lock rattles a bit when being ridden over rougher terrain, but not enough to annoy. The only issue I've had is that occasionally the I won't push the key in far enough, and the lock will refuse to open. The key will manage to rotate the lock about half way,but then stop. Removing the key and re-inserting all the way seems to resolve this though.Overall, very happy with this lock.

I was looking for a lock to secure my bike at work and after a ton of research I came to the conclusion that the Kryptonite New York was one of the best on the market. Yes it's heavy at 2kg but it's thick and strong and that's exactly what you need in a good lock. I can guarantee it will scare away anybody looking to steal a bike!On a side note, I understand many people have had issues with the keys yet I fail to see how anything can go wrong. With the key inserted the lock twists with such ease that there is no force needed. Plus you receive three keys (one with a built in light and two smaller single keys, all strongly made and well-finished)so you'll always have a replacement if you happen to lose one.I would highly recommend this lock to anybody who is looking to buy one.

Very good lock, the mount is useless though. It's a big lock so it doesn't mount anywhere properly on my bike. I also tightened up the mount on the lock and it still didn't mount properly. If there is a large opening in the centre of your frame, you would probably be able to mount it fine, but not the case with my mountain bike. The weight of the lock will just make it fall sideways, unless it's hanging. I just carry it hanging on my handlebars or in a backpack. But that doesn't take away from the great rating of this lock. I definitely feel assured that my bike will be safe with this lock. Its a very hefty lock and after reading/watching reviews, you aren't going to be able to break it without angle grinders.Definitely worth the money if you live/work in a big metro area.

I won't go into the technical details as they have been covered elsewhere, but I will say this appears to be an extremely solid lock, suitable to secure your expensive bicycle.Pros:16mm hardened steel, with disc locking mech3 steel keys, one with LED lightheavy - 2kgCons:the FlexFrame-U mount is absolute junk, and is not fit for purpose to support such a heavy lock.heavy - I have given up carrying this lock in my backpack and just leave it in situ at work. One look at this lock should be enough to deter the average scumbag thief.Just be sure to lock it securely i.e. through frame & back wheel attached to a suitable rack.A cable extension for the front wheel would also be a good idea, shame this wasn't included with the u-lock.

This is a big heavy bad boy! I actually never realized that it was this big and heavy, guess I should have read the specs in greater detail...my bad...having said that I just purchased a new mountain bike and wanted the best to secure said so I opted for this and another securing device...I have no intentions of securing this lock to bike and will carry in rucksack should I feel I need it when on runs..this is probably due to bad securing reviews.. I was actually thinking of returning due to size and weight and take a loss, however, upon watching various videos and reviews, if anyone gets through this lock then they must be serious at their game..so I'm gonna hold on to it as I know it willdo a good protection job...

So I live in Bristol which next to London is the push bike central and also bike theft cityMy bike is fairly expensive and I was really concerned when I bought it that it would get stolen but this lock is amazing, I know it has been tested by more than one colourful character as there have been cut marks on the lock itself but it's proved it's worth as it has never been broken and my bike has always been there when I got back to itThe reputation and appearance of the lock itself acts as quite a bid deterrent in my opinion but the fact that the lock is so solid means that even when they test it, they need some good hardware to break itI use this on my rear wheels and another D lock on the frontwheels,
